Two and a half months later, I'm stronger, I can see real changes in my body, and I actually convinced my husband - who has never done personal training or group fitness in his life - to start training with him too. That says everything. Perseo is an exceptional teacher, not just a trainer. From day one, he made the whole thing approachable - breaking down form, explaining the reasoning behind each exercise, and tailoring everything to exactly where I was starting from. He caught early on that I was slightly favoring one leg during squats and corrected the imbalance quickly, which is the kind of detail that would have taken me years to notice on my own. He also goes above and beyond in ways that feel personal rather than transactional - extra time for stretching, genuine attention to how your body is responding session to session. If you've been nervous to start or feel like the gym isn't "for you," Perseo will change that.

Since then, I've been consistently attending weekend classes and even added some weekday sessions on my own outside of ClassPass. The vibe here is truly top tier, everyone is welcoming, positive, and friendly, while still being focused and serious about getting a great workout in. It's a rare balance that makes you feel comfortable but also motivated. Perseo, the owner and trainer, really sets this place apart. He's incredibly personable and attentive. Early on, he took the time to do a full body scan to assess my current fitness level and identify target areas, something many places charge extra for. We also had a one-on-one conversation about my goals, and since then, he's been intentional about tailoring movements to fit my needs, even during group sessions. What I appreciate most is that there are no gimmicks here, just real, effective training that delivers results if you're willing to put in the work. The community is great, and I enjoy working out alongside others, but the 1:1 sessions are especially valuable if you're serious about your fitness journey. I highly recommend LA Flex for group classes, small group sessions, and personal training.

I didn't…read morewant to deal with salespeople or pay for a giant club full of amenities I wasn't going to use. I just wanted a place where I could learn to lift weights safely and effectively, and be around regular people. Not influencers. I started at Game Time Strength about a month and a half ago, and I love it. It's everything I want in a gym and nothing that I don't. As someone who hadn't lifted weights in decades, I was honestly nervous about starting again in my 50s. From day one, everything exceeded my expectations. Their commitment to proper form and technique creates a very safe place to train. Each session builds on the last, so you feel progress without feeling overwhelmed. They truly understand what it's like to be new, and I feel encouraged, seen, and supported every time I walk in. The biggest compliment I can give is this: I genuinely look forward to my training sessions. A lot more than I ever expected. I'm getting stronger, my mobility is improving, and I feel better overall. I also love that they have multiple locations nearby and a ton of training days and times. They make it about as easy as it gets to stay consistent.

This particular location had previously…read morebeen Horn Strength & Conditioning, the first Starting Strength-affiliated gym on the west coast. When its founder, Paul Horn, decamped to Boise, his long time friend and the proprietor of GTS assumed this location, eventually expanding it and including it in the GTS network of gyms across the southern LA basin, from El Segundo to Venice /Mar Vista, and Redondo among others. First, a word about the owner, Jason Kelske. Not only is Jason a successful strength competitor, but he is an extremely experienced and insightful coach as well as an active, continuing student of training methods. He is not a jihadist, pitching a rigid orthodoxy, but rather offers a refreshingly practical, sensible approach designed first to create consistency, and then, to work gradually on the various aspects of programming (intensity, variation, nutrition, recovery) which are so crucial to long term success. If you like James Clear (Atomic Habits), this approach will resonate. Also Jason has incorporated a host of educational and community- oriented material into easy - to - access phone apps (Circle and Everfit) which allow a sense of connection, and encourages participation while also avoiding any kind of pressure vibe. Jason's team of coaches are similarly friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to be around: in short, people you want to train with and learn from. The facilities are outfitted with absolutely first class equipment and the reservation system ensures you'll never have that 'oh shit' feeling when you walk in because you know you'll be waiting around. You're not gonna wait. TBH, a lot of people would be a lot healthier and hassle- free if they connected w GTS. It's very different from all the other places, in all the right ways.

From day one, they've brought nothing but positive energy. Devin deserves a special shoutout. I once mentioned the eucalyptus towels and asked if they could be kept stocked, and ever since then he has been ON IT. Every fridge stays filled, every time. That kind of follow-through really shows care and attention to members. Jasala is a pleasure every single time I walk in. She greets you with a genuine smile and amazing energy, and that honestly matters so much, especially at a gym. Being welcomed warmly sets the tone for the entire workout, and she does that effortlessly. And Taylor... always smiling, always good vibes, immaculate energy. You can tell he enjoys being there, and that energy spreads. I always joke that these three are my favorite workers at Iconix, but it's not really a joke. They truly elevate the experience and make the membership feel 100% worth it. Iconix is lucky to have them.

But as with any other big box gym, the expensive specialized equipment are also subject to wear and tear. It gets crowded, particularly during the late afternoon to early evenings. During my time here, I've not been snubbed by people, and have offered others to work in because waiting between equipment can take time. Dumbbells are more often than not in the racks where they belong when not used, which is rare in big box gyms. This is probably one of the better big box gyms around. I enjoyed my time here.

So, I have gotten some of the methods to parking decent enough. Because of my soon to be new hip, I need my door to be wide open when getting back in. Some of the people working there have been helpful. Now, on to a parking issue today when leaving. I was parked in the inner spot, that means that one of the attendents need to move the other car. Well, that took say 15 minutes as this parking guru was too busy doing nothing and I raised my voice at bit to say "when are you going to move this other car," and he was far away from me at the time. When the jerk finally started to walk to the car he told me to be polite. I am polite but not after the wait on the tarmac without a response from the cockpit. Ugh...the parking here is such a mess and I wish they would hire some decent folks, pay them well and all could be happy.

The one-on-one attention from the trainers makes such a difference -- I mostly take classes with Jesse, McKenna, and Peter, and they're all incredible. The trainers make sure you're doing everything correctly and safely, and they really individualize the programming to different levels. No matter where you are in your fitness journey, they meet you there and still push you to go further. The group programming runs for 5-6 weeks at a time, which I love because you can actually track your progress and see how much stronger you're getting. I've been challenging myself to lift heavier and heavier, and I've noticed such a big change in my body -- someone even told me I have "Madonna arms," which made my day! Real Fitness has truly been a game changer for me.
