Let me go PAST the haircut. Haircut is a 10/10. I've been going to Igor since 2010. Since 2010, I've lived in 3 different countries. I've lived domestically, in 5 different cities. But my Family lives in NYC. So, I'm always coming back home. This most recent trip, Igor recognized me and said, "What's it been??? Like 3 years?!" Yes! Yes it has been 3 years. And Igor fixes the mistakes the other barbers do. read more

Good fade, lame cut. Not a place I'd go back to. If you have a very simple cut, it's probably fine

Only excellent things to say about Igor's shop! Called at 8AM and he was friendly / advised I just walk in right away, no appointment needed. When I entered, 2 people were there and BOTH serviced within 25-30min. Came in from out of town and showed Igor a photo of how I get my haircut on the West Coast and he matched my preferences EXACTLY! Excellent haircut in half the time (under 20min). His shop is cozy and clean - would advise anyone to visit and solicit and would be happy to return. read more

I used to love this place and I gave it a great review as time goes on all relationships change some stay the same some get better some get worse this one got worse we actually got close and sometimes when people get close they get TOO close and they fool around and that's OK I come from New York I love fooling around I love trading barbs but sometimes it goes sour in this case it went sour I mean the place is kind of a cool old school barber shop that has nothing hip about it it's just a blast from the past a place that looks like a penny hasn't been put into it in 20 years it has like 30 pictures of guys totally generic guys from God knows how many years ago The thing that went sour was the owner Igor yelling in his place about why I got fired from my job how come I got fired from my job and then going off into detail about how I behave And then goes off about how people rip off the system and they are people on welfare that ripoff the system and nobody is starving in America all you Gotta do is get a job everybody can go get a job this is America you know you know the routine don't you? and then his son got involved 22-year-old kid you know the type? he knows everything better than everyone who ever walked the earth he got involved and started telling me about my money how much smarter he is about making money and it just got uglier and uglier and uglier the haircuts are decent you can get the same haircut anywhere it's not cheap but you can get the same haircut or better anywhere for the same price I called up a friend of mine that used to go here and he doesn't go here anymore Igor asked me why I found out he just didn't like the place the guy I called up is a A deer trustworthy friend of mine who now goes to a place on fourth Street between Avenue A&B which is where I'll be going because I trust my friend it's too bad a good relationship soured and got so vicious that I'll never walk in that place again I actually lost a friend who told me the place stunk and didn't have a good haircuts and I fought for them telling her she's out of her mind and we got into it and it was losing a friend defending people that well Now I'm sorry I defended this was a mistake Don't get me wrong there was a time where we laughed we considered each other friends what can I tell you shit goes this way at timesI I'm a very very loyal customer I will never go back in this place again He and the genius son are from another planet read more

Igor used to rock out over at Neighborhood Barber, and now he's here, with his own shop. I've been coming in here for over a year because: 1. It's conveniently located near the 2nd Ave F Stop. 2. Igor gives me the cut I want. By that I mean a cheap ($14 + tip), reliable haircut. I might not look GREAT when I walk out, but let's be realistic: he's a barber, not a plastic surgeon. Igor does as well as anyone with what he's got to work with. The last time I walked in, I noticed that they have begun stocking Playboy among the magazines, as opposed to just GQ, Details, etc. This was a first. As soon as I sat down and started reading the, uh, articles, this was quickly followed by another first: a woman walked in. With her little son and daughter. She sat down opposite me, and I could literally feel her disgust burning into my forehead as I read the, uh, articles. What? It's a men's magazine. And I'm a man, at least technically. It wasn't like it was a Score. I only read those at Crown Fried Chicken. read more

I'm not sure what to make of this place. This was probably the longest and most meticulous haircut I have ever received, which is good. And when I put product in my hair, I think it works. But without product, my hair doesn't look that good. Maybe its because I got it longer than usual, or perhaps I just need to get used to it... but I'm just not sure. It is cool that they give the old-fashioned shaves, and they will actually do that to your neck instead of using a regular electric shaver. So, for that, and the effort, I think this place is worth trying out again. Oh, and everyone was right about the "no frills." Its a simple barbershop meant for one thing, cutting hair. That's the way I like them. read more

Best in LES. I've been getting my hair cut here for three years. Igor cuts quick and effective. I am a black man.

Great spot to get a haircut. Igor is well priced and efficient. I moved to West Village and still come back to him across town.

If you know, you know. I started going to Igor around 9 years ago when I lived in the E Village. I now live further up in the UES but still come down for my haircut despite having a couple of dozen other barbers within walking distance. read more

GET YOUR HAIRCUT HERE! I wanted the whole barber thing to happen, but I kept going to junky places like Franky's Chop Shop or Blind Barber; places that cost like $45 for some dude from Staten Island to cut your hair, while he talks and talks about how he's a DJ, party promoter, or he makes t -shirts. Not only did it get insufferable to listen to these dopes, they never seemed to actually have any training, and the ratio of decent cut to terrible cut was maybe 1 to 4 (like, 20% were decent, 80 were god awful). Even worse, once, I got fed up with one of the guys that cut my hair, changed shops, and HE WAS WORKING AT THE OTHER SHOP. These hackjob hacks just float from 1 fake old-timey joint to the next! So I made a rule: if I walk into a barber shop and see any kind of resident small dog, I walk out. Last time I saw one it was a French Bulldog. It was cute and all... until it puked on the floor. So a gay hipster friend told me that this is a secret gay hipster spot, and after visiting I can explain why. You see, the majority of the guys who work here are Russian/Israeli, and they probably learned how to cut hair in the army. And guess what: that hipster haircut you want to pay $50+ for is basically a standard Eastern European army cut, with some variations. These guys INVENTED that cut! They've perfected it over years and years. On top of that, they're super nice and chill, and you almost never need to wait. The place has a good atmosphere - they seem to be happy to work there, they like each other, and they remember you. They'll talk if you want to talk, they'll be quiet if you don't want to talk. They won't push you out the door. And NONE of them are secretly drum n bass DJs (yes, seriously, drum n bass. I've heard it from the dudes at these faker old timey shops). Plus, they're actually interesting guys, because they're from places like Uzbekistan. And they also all probably know how to kill people with one well placed finger to the neck. Long story short, they're pretty awesome. Plus, you're in New York, why would you want to get your hair cut at a place that looks like it's on a Reality TV show? These guys are CONSISTENT. That 1 to 4 ratio here is 4 to 1 (80% decent or better, 20% fail). I've tried Igor, Gabby and Steve, all great guys, and all good at what they do. I don't even care which one cuts my hair, because they're all awesome. Look, it costs $15, and I generally walk out looking like Bernard Sumner did in 1983. GO HERE read more

Found this place on Yelp, Walked in one day after work. There was no line, and I was greeted by a very nice barber. I forget his name, but I know it was not Igor. Anyways, he was polite, friendly, asked me a lot of questions about my haircut and how I wanted it, took his time and did a very thorough job. He also was the perfect level of chatty and professional. I was very pleased with the experience, and tipped well. The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is that the haircut hasn't quite grown in the way I like it to, but it wasn'tf or lack of skill or lack of trying on the barber's part. I will go back. read more

A friend recommended Igor's to me 10 years ago and I've been going ever since. Igor is the best barber in NYC hands down. I always feel confident walking out with a fresh fade. Igor's is what I expect from a barber shop. Check it out and you won't want to get your haircut anywhere else! read more

My favorite barber in NYC. And not just because his shop is right across the street from me. Ok, well yeah. That factors in as well. But Igor is a great barber, takes his time to make sure you get a good cut, and remembers your name every time you come in. It's like Cheers, if only Woody cut your hair instead of serving you a beer. Did I mention it's only $14 for a cut as well? Well, it is. read more

DO NOT GET YOUR HAIRCUT HERE! They will chop your hair off and make you look like a 10 year old boy getting a haircut before Easter Sunday. I work in the beauty industry and I am well versed in describing a haircut, the barber mentioned multiple times, "I don't know what you like", when describing a crew cut the most basic cut. When I asked him to texture the hair so it wasn't so "straight cut' he replied, "I do not know what texture is, do you mean choppy?" NO, I don't mean choppy!! in the south they would call this shop a "Great Clips" (i.e. bad haircut for cheap). I am appalled by the hideous haircut I am wearing currently. Never go here no matter how broke you are, or how desperately you need a cut. SERIOUSLY, if there is a wait at the good place, WAIT, for goodness sake. I will be gladly paying the higher dollar to go back to FSC Barber or another on the LES. read more

A little background: I live in East Harlem and I've been dissatisfied with the barbershops nearby, FOR YEARS, dating back from when I stopped rocking a classic Caesar. They're unprofessional, don't know how to blend hair very well, and some just don't know what to do with Caucasian hair. I was originally intending on going to Neighborhood Barber, but then when I heard that Igor used to work there and then opened his own shop, I was impressed. After my first haircut here, I was very satisfied, a feeling I have rarely felt after leaving a barber shop in past years. I went to Igor, although I was tempted to go to the guy next to him because I really liked the haircut he gave the guy in his chair. I showed Igor a picture of Gordon Hayward, and he did a pretty solid job recreating his hairstyle. I LOVE the fade he gave me. He doesn't force conversation, but he's very friendly. My most recent barber before him was an older Russian guy, he was a good guy, but was very reserved. I think charisma is underrated. The other two guys there (Richie and John Doe) looked like they knew what they were doing, but I obviously recommend Igor as of now. He gave a quick, painless, and pleasing haircut. The hot shave was a great touch, even though it doesn't last long, it leaves you with such a smooth feel. Despite my satisfaction, for me at least (18-year-old college freshman), $18 is a bit high. I'm used to paying 12 plus a tip every time. And I tipped more than I ever did with previous barbers, (gave him 22), as I assume the standards for tipping is higher in the East Village. I was assuming my haircut would be 16 so I could just give a 20, but the price has been raised since the last reviews. However, I do know that 18 is nothing compared to a lot of NYC shops. All in all, that is my only complaint as of now. Overall, if I plan on making him my barber for good (which I do), and come all the way down to the East Village for his services (which means a long train ride), that should say something. I will write an updated review after about 4 more trips. read more

I live 30 minutes away but it's worth the visit. They're very passionate and detailed which are rare to find nowadays. Highly recommended.

Erol is the man! After an ill-fated haircut elsewhere, he quickly and professionally was able to make me look human again. These guys are pros and addressed everybody else who was there by name. If that type of loyalty and repeat business isn't the sign of a bunch of satisfied customers, I'm not sure what is. I'll definitely be going back, and will hopefully be on a first name basis with these guys before too long. (the fact they're across from Lil' Frankie's doesn't hurt either!) read more

Igor is the man. I followed him from neighborhood barber because he was the best thing about it. He takes his time, does a solid job. The price is average. This guy actually remembers you. Call ahead to make sure you don't wait because the word is getting out about how good it is. read more

Who knew that you could find a great haircut in Manhattan for under $20?! This is one of those pride and true barber shops that aren't around anymore. I was hesitant at first going here because I thought this would be solely an electric buzzer, give me a number 1 on the sides & a 2 on the top type of place. While you can come here and get that or a clean up no problem, Igor is great with the scissors. Top off your haircut with a hot shave and you'll come out of there feeling like a million bucks...ALL FOR UNDER $20!! read more

Since I moved downtown a year ago it's been tough to find a good barber. Came here today and the place was completely empty so I took a seat right away. The barber really took his time to get my cut right, going over things a few times to make sure it was perfect. Ended up with one of the better hair cuts I've had in a while, and at only 15 bucks it was a steal. Ended up giving just him a 20 because you gotta tip for good service I'll definitely be back again for my next haircut. read more

In Chicago I had my hair cut guy. After 6 years, he always cut my hair perfectly. Moving to NYC was easy, finding a new hair cut guy was stressing. I mean a hair cut is like a 1 month tattoo on the top of your head. I stood outside this place debating, stressing, about whether to go in or not. After watching a couple guys come out with hair that wasn't butchered, I opted to try it out. At $14 it's hard to complain about anything. My hair is medium length and Tim did a good job at keeping the same style, just shorter. Don't expect them to style your hair or give any tips, but if you need your current style, just shorter, this place will do the trick. read more

Good barber shop, but beware: not all employees are the same. I've had my hair cut by Igor and a couple of other guys who are great. But I just had my hair cut by someone who was a terrible listener. I asked them to cut off 1.5 inches and was very specific, showed a photo and everything. He pretended to acknowledge my comment, they immediately started cutting off 3 inches without even a thought. It's like this guy was zoned out in his own little world. When you're describing a haircut to a barber, and all they do is nod their head and say "OK, man" before you've finished your sentences, that is unsatisfactory performance for a barber. When I complained about how much hair he took off, he barely reacted. Then I saw a couple of people on the line of customers behind me look up from their newspapers and get nervous, rightly so. Word of advice: Be careful who cuts your hair. If they seem like they're not listening, they probably aren't. Obviously, $15 for a men's haircut is a good deal, but I'm giving 3 stars because I've had good and, clearly, bad experiences here. read more

This place seemed ok until I got home and realized I'd been scratched and chopped to look like a prison inmate. Mike is the worst barber I've ever had in my life. I've been getting 3 on top for years and I think a monkey with no hands could do a better job than him. If you want a good haircut go somewhere else they will take your money and leave you looking like crap. read more

I've been coming here consistently for a couple years now. Igor and his son David are both very talented and I have truly never had a bad experience. SHORT & SWEET: Want a clean look from a professional who takes his time and makes sure that the job is done right? Talk to NICK at IGOR'S! --- FANTASTIC experience at Igor's. I had hair to my shoulders and a week of beard, and I needed a clean look for a job interview the next day. I came in, and Nick was the only one on duty. He asked me what look I wanted, and I only had a vague idea, so I pointed to one of the pictures on the wall. After he trimmed my long hair for a few minutes, he recommended that I go another way, and his advice was perfectly placed. Frankly, I do not know much about haircuts, and I was glad to have some advice from a proper barber. He gave me a clean, professional cut that was exactly what I wanted (even though I had started out with a different idea in mind, based on the pictures on the wall). I have a THICK beard, and SENSITIVE skin. I thought that it would be nice to have a straight razor shave (having never had one before), but, after hearing that my skin was on the sensitive side, Nick started the job with a clipper, and then a Wahl electric shaver to cut my beard VERY low. The Wahl shaver did most of the finer work, and, once we got down to a hot towel soak and using the straight razor, it was clear that, after a few strokes, the straight razor was not right for my combination of sensitive skin and thick hair. It was a blessing that he had known to be so thorough with his electric shavers. In addition to giving me a great cut, Nick made conversation with myself and my friends throughout the process, consulted with me about the look that I wanted at the key points, and paid VERY close attention to detail, both on my head and my face. I will definitely be coming back to Igor's for a haircut from Nick in the future when I want a clean, no-nonsense haircut and shave for a GREAT price. *HE TOOK HIS TIME AND GAVE HIS FULL ATTENTION* at every step of the way, which I truly appreciated, ESPECIALLY given the very reasonable price that I was charged. Nick, I hope that you read this, so that you know how glad I was to have your help. I only wish that I could post my before and after pictures on Yelp. 5 stars all the way. read more

Best Barber Shop in Manhattan! I go there every week, and i was never disappointed ! Igor, does everything i want, and he also suggests better ideas! exactly what i like ! they know better about hair that i do! Thank you Clean Cuts, specially Igor! read more

OK, this is a barber shop and not a salon. Given Igor's skill which I was blessed with this weekend, I wouldn't be surprised if he can do the fancy 'zac effron' layering type of cuts. But I would not risk it here. If you're hair cut is basic: scissor trim, fade, taper, faux, .. go to Igor. Igor gave me the same haircut for 14+tip here in 15 minutes, than the same cut I got at a salon for 45+tip in 1 hour. Only con is that Igor probably has a large clientele base and you may have to wait during busy times, but I think given the bang for the buck its worth it. read more

Igor is a magician with a electric shaver! I used to pay top dollar for a decent cut. I stopped in, on a whim, and literally, two swipes with his shaver and my hair looked better then it had in years! ( and for 1/3 the price) Igor is a true artist! read more

Igor's the man. Sure my hair is always a mess, but not when Igor gets through with it. I walk in and the guy looks at me and says to himself, "What did you do to my haircut?" and he fixes me up, and I feel like a new man. It's what a barber should do for you. Put a bounce in your step, after you shed a few pounds of hair and $14. I forgot that's how much it costs - I always leave him $20. Ok, I just gave you my barber. What do you want., Blood? read more

One thing I've learned if you want a cheap haircut - sometimes you're going to end up looking like you got a cheap haircut. That being my primary criteria for coming to this place (and Igor's former success at Neighborhood Barbers), my words of wisdom are to be as explicit as possible when giving your haircut instructions. I say this because I write to you today with some less-than-desired results of a recent visit resting atop my head. Still, I've had plenty of fine haircuts at this place, so it balances out. The crew is friendly, and the service cheap. But remember to let the guy know EXACTLY how you want it. read more

The best in New York. Always ask for Igor. Don't go anyplace else.

I am baffled by the positive reviews. I went here a year or two ago, and you get what you pay for: a cheap haircut. I ended up having to shave my head because the haircut I got here was so bad. read more

I walked away with one of the most upsetting haircuts of my life. First thing I said when I walked in was "not too short" he then measured out the hair in his hand and asks "to here" I say "yeah that's good" and then I get sheared, past where he measured with his fingers and down to almost nothing. I walked out of this place angry about the month it will take before it grows out. To be fair it probably was just the guy I got, but I wouldn't risk it again. If you go, be extremely specific about what you want and keep an eye on your barber! read more

Igor's the man. I've been going to him for the last 6 months and it only gets better. Before this I was going to a salon and paying wayyyy too much and it wasn't nearly as good as what Igor has been able to provide me with. No mo' salons for me! read more

Excellent barber shop. Excellent haircuts and excellent shaves. This is not a beauty salon. This is not a hair salon. If you want that type of hair styling, go to that type of business. Good guy but just didn't cut my hair well. I was asking for a basic simple style and it just doesn't look right.
