It's been years since my last review, but my recent visit to Ika Sushi confirms that their quality is absolutely consistent and still ranks among the best in the valley. If you're looking for beautifully crafted sushi without the typical downtown madness, this is your spot. The fish is incredibly fresh, the rice is perfectly seasoned, and their creative special rolls are where they truly shine. I highly recommend trying one of their originals like The Joker Roll (salmon, tuna, spicy crab, and lime) or the highly complex Ika Roll. Every piece is thoughtfully topped with specialty sauces or herbs. The chef and staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and you get the sense that they genuinely care about giving you a great dining experience. If it's been a while since your last visit, or if you've never been, definitely put Ika Sushi back on your list like I did.

This was my first time at Ika Sushi, and it was such a great experience. We stopped in for a late lunch, so it wasn't very busy, and we were seated right away. The space itself is really cute and the staff was super friendly, which set the tone for a relaxed meal. We ordered a little bit of everything: the Brussels sprouts, a salmon avocado roll, a blue crab avocado roll, an albacore hand roll, and something called the Popeye roll. The Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly, with a nice char and a white miso sauce that was so good we ended up dipping other rolls in it. The salmon roll was tightly rolled with a generous amount of fish, and I really appreciated how well the rice held together even when dipping it in soy sauce and wasabi--no crumbling, which is a win. The blue crab avocado roll was really lovely, and you could definitely taste the fresh blue crab. The albacore hand roll was beautifully done and probably one of the best I've had in the city--simple but really high quality. But the standout for me was the Popeye roll. I never would have thought to put spinach in a sushi roll, but it worked so well. The flavor was unique, and again a little miso sauce took it to another level. One small but thoughtful detail that I loved: after we finished eating, they brought out a little plate of orange slices. It was a nice refreshing way to end the meal and kind of cleanse the palate--simple, but it added a really nice touch to the whole experience. We just had soft drinks with the meal, but overall everything was excellent. Quick, easy, and delicious. Perfect timing going right after lunch because we got in with no wait, and everyone working there was kind and attentive. Highly recommend and already looking forward to going back.

I wasn't expecting much from a sushi spot in a strip mall, so call me pleasantly surprised that sushi restaurant far surpassed my expectations! It's too nice to be considered a hole in the wall, so let's call it a hidden gem. We started with the miso soup (a must have in the winter months) and shishito peppers, both were excellent. The peppers were a little sweeter than expected but the flavor went excellent with a cold Japanese beer. Our mains included two spicy specialty rolls (twist and shout, and another) as well as a few types of nigiri. All was fantastic, especially the Black Sea Bream. I would absolutely stop here again, and you should too!

Came in here for dinner and was very pleasantly surprised. The service was super friendly sat at the sushi bar. They were playing low tempo music and has very Japanese feel too it. The fish was super fresh we got 4 rolls! Got their chicken karage too which was nicely fried and delicious. I would come here again. If you're nearby come eat here. Ask for a custom roll they are very talented.

Amazing quality, from the north east and this place is just as good. $60 omakase with an ortoro hand roll. Service was great, we also got gyoza, soup, salad, and chicken teriyaki. All great portions, high quality. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Came back to eat at the best sushi restaurant in SLC. We ordered a ton of food again and everything was delicious. Halibut carpaccio - delicious! Don't need any soy sauce for this dish Yellow tail carpaccio-delicious but the halibut tastes much better Shishito pepper are always great! We have been searching for a good sushi place in Utah. We ordered the Rock Shrimp Tempura roll & the Crunch roll. Both were excellent. The Rock Shrimp Tempura was perfectly crunchy & the deep fried tempura coating was very tasty. The sushi hiding underneath was spicy & a big surprise! The crunch roll crab meat filling was delicious! Our server, Haley, was so nice & made great suggestions. She was attentive and checked on us to make sure we were satisfied with our rolls. We will definitely be back and bring friends next time!!!

Tried at tsunami down the road the other night and while that is passable for sushi this is legitimately a true experience of what sushi should be; with a wider fish menu and sushi chefs that take this seriously why would you waste time eating at a more watered down sushi bar. I sat the sushi bar and watch the guys work and the attention to detail was incredible! You can see from the deep look of focus from the chefs here that they not only respect the culture that is of Japanese cuisine they engross it. I started with my usual test of Salmon, yellow tail and mackerel (which is always a good sign that the sushi will be that of substance. Speaking with the chef he recommended I go with fatty tuna, red snapper, amber jack and black snapper. I finished my meal with the standard sweet sushi of tamago and unagi The vibe here is definitely more in line with focus being the food and not so much the over the top unnecessary decor to fake a high end experience as some of the other places I've visited on this trip. All in all this will be my goto sushi place and will come here at least twice on the weeks I'm here

WOW WOW WOW is all I have to say! (Just kidding, I have a lot more than that as I always do, hahaha). In a singular visit, this has easily become one of my favorite sushi places in the Salt Lake valley. I have been wanting to try Ika sushi for a while now and finally had the opportunity to do so last week. From the outside, it is very unassuming and tucked away within the Riverwalk Shopping Center. The interior of the restaurant is not huge, so while my friends and I were over the course of our for dinner, it filled fairly quickly. I have visited multiple restaurants that were in this specific storefront location that haven't stayed (a poke place, teriyaki, and more), and I HOPE so badly that Ika thrives here because the quality of their sushi was exceptional. One of my friends ordered the Brussel Sprouts which I had the opportunity to try a bite of. To be honest, my first instinct in a sushi place would not be to order Brussel sprouts, but I am so glad my friend did! They are cooked in a citrus white miso sauce and that flavor of the sauce absolutely transforms this dish! Very flavorful! Moving to the sushi, I ordered some Hamachi nigiri and based on my research from other reviews, I really wanted to try out the Twist & Shout roll. When I tell you that the Hamachi nigiri had one of the best quality pieces of raw fish I have ever had, I mean it! Beyond the flavor alone, biting into this piece of Hamachi and through to the rice was like slicing through a soft stick of butter - the texture was perfect! I was almost shocked. To continue to on to the Twist & Shout roll, I cannot express enough that this roll is a MUST try. If you are like me and love a good spicy sushi roll, and this one has the perfect balance of spice. With the chili oil and fresh jalapenos, you have such a nice level of heat that balances so well with the rest of the roll. Also, the addition of the garlic chips adds a nice crunch to each bite without it taking away from the overall texture of the sushi. To end my review, I ask one thing from people who live in this area - please help Ika do well and visit! It is so refreshing to find restaurants in this area that aren't part of a chain, and I want it to succeed so I can keep coming here and not have to go downtown for great sushi!

A DELIGHT FOR SURE! If you sushi and relaxing ambience, this is your jam! The waitress was quiet accommodating even though she was the only server. The ambience is very happening with bright and clean decor. We ordered Gyoza which was superb. The bamboozed sushi was little too sweet for my taste but elixir was amazing. It had jalapeños kick with mango as soother. I would 100% recommend trying them

This has become my go to sushi restaurant is Salt Lake City. I was skeptical the first time I went as it is on a strip mall in "white bread city". I have been back once a month when I am in town. They always have super fresh Uni and monkfish liver pate. The employees always remember me and treat me like a king. The prices are also very reasonable.

Who would have thought that a little (albeit very clean and nice) sushi restaurant in Midvale UT would have some of the best, if not the best sushi I've ever had! We stopped here while exploring SLC during a Park City ski trip and both my son and I were knocked out at the quality and creativity of IKA Sushi. After years of trying sushi restaurants all over the country, including the very best in our home town of Austin, we discovered this hidden gem. Dinner included salmon sushi (perfectly fresh and prepared), Sunset roll, Pacific roll, Salmon Lover roll and Rainbow roll. All of which were perfectly fresh and prepared with surprising creativity and flair. I very seldom take the time to review restaurants, but this wonderful little sushi restaurant deserves all of the accolades I can offer! On top of the outstanding food, the staff was excellent and very welcoming. We come to Park City every year and I honestly can not wait to return to IKA Sushi on our next trip! read more

Came back after a phenomenal first time experience from service to food.(first server had a Afro, I think his name was Jay) Second time I was pretty disappointed food was not fresh/ hot like the first time I came. Scallops were cold on the blue dynamite. Tempura shrimp wasn't freshly fried you could tell it had been sitting out. Server didn't come to check on me until 25 minutes later and forgot to ring in half my order because the chef and him were too busy talking. I would understand if it was busy but sadly there was no one else in the restaurant. I however did like that I asked for no tobiko and the server and chef problem solved to see why I did not like it and gave me a side to try. read more

We enjoyed our experience at Eco sushi, and I feel that the three star rating is about as accurate as I could give. We were not impressed, nor were we disappointed, it was just pretty good sushi. I would say if you're going to be getting sushi at a grocery store that would be a two, so this is a step up, but certainly not as good as I would come to expect from some of the great sushi houses in Salt Lake. However, if you're in the neighborhood and maybe on your way to Topgolf or another spot in the area it may be worth dropping in to give it a try. It may also have been that the restaurant was very busy when we got there, so the rules may not have been prepared as well as they could've been. So, we will potentially come back. read more

Almost don't want to write a review as this is my all time favorite sushi in Utah, I drive 20 minutes each way just to eat here. The servers are always on point with recommendations and quality of service. Food is absolutely delicious and prepared well. Best purple haze around. Tried Ika for the first time. I was not disappointed. I would highly recommend. Atmosphere was great. Jay the server was awesome. Sake was on point. Ordered the sweet potato fries. I'm not a big fan of sweet potato fries but these I would eat any day. All three rolls- Vegas, highway 215 and elixir were great. read more

We decided to switch up our regular sushi spot and try Ika. It did not disappoints the service was personable, the establishment clean and beautiful. Way less crowded than other places, which we loved too. Highly recommend the Coconut shrimp (best I ever had), Sunshine roll and the sunshine roll with the cucumber around it. Delicious and the fish is fresh. Glad this is our new spot!! read more

We ordered Specialty rolls. They were all flavorful and extremely well prepared. On various trips to Japan and major US cities, as a couple we have spent a few hundred dollars a sitting on some exceptional traditional sushi. This is not that type of establishment. It prepares fresh, flavorful sushi at a reasonable price for American tastes. Our tastes are such that we worry about eating Sushi in Utah. We thoroughly enjoyed our food. The service was attentive and quick. The decor was basic, and the place was spotless. read more

Excellent! Definitely try the Omakase sushi set, amazing quality and value. $32 for 10 pcs plus a hand roll of your choice, I have never seen any other restaurant has that offer. Great menu. Wonderful service. Definitely will be back. So glad we tried this restaurant. read more

We stumbled on this restaurant while looking for a place to eat near top golf and we sure found a gem. The chef is incredibly talented in the art of Japanese food and the sashimi is really good quality and fresh. Everything we have had here has been tasty. From the Brussels sprouts appetizer to sushi dishes, everything was delicious. The price is affordable and it's one of the best sushi places in town. Highly recommend eating here! read more

The stars are for the quality of the sushi only. Which is great. Service was horrible tonight. Our server(who was one of two) was not knowledgeable at all. We had to ask 4 different times just to get water on the table. It's unfortunate this restaurant isn't staffed. It used to be our favorite and now I don't think we will be going back with how our experience tonight went :( read more

I moved from California to South jordan last year and have been searching for a legit sushi restaurant for awhile. Ika sushi hit the spot! They got Chirashi bowl with uni at a fair price and the ika ensemble is great. Lunch special is well worth the price. If you are looking for something more than just rolls with colorful sauce on(I enjoy those too), ika is a good place to go wjth. read more

The head chef thoroughly explained every dish in detail. All courses tasted good and I would definitely recommend this for even the beginner sushi or fish lover. Every nigiri was dressed up so there were always a ton of flavor to every course!! Thoroughly surprised and I would recommend if looking for a omakase experience in the Salt Lake Valley

Unfortunately, out of 8 of us 7 ordered fried rice, one steamed. Server brought out steamed rice to the one, and cook dishes out 5 bowls of fried rice. Two of us question where our rice was. So they have to prep and cook in the kitchen. Like WTAF?! But whatever... Cook was good, but not overly funny. He didn't even use the funny oil peeing boy (IYKYK) which my 9yo old always gets excited about. Food was cooked just right IMO but server never came back to refill drinks or see if we needed anything. They don't have yum yum sauce it's something much runnier which was disappointing. After the cook was done, they were practically rushing us out, by picking up plates, offering boxes, and setting new clean dishwater near the grill. I'm glad that they are efficient, but where's my server? Where's my water & wine refill? For a Friday evening and NOT very busy, I was really bummed for how horrible our experience and service was. This is one of the best teppanyaki restaurants around. This server didn't do her job and our last 5 star experience turned to a 3 star and was underwhelming sadly.

So I was that customer that came in right before closing. I felt horrible and was just going to order to go so they could leave. Puuje was such a doll and said no. and sat my family and treated us like we where the first customers of the day not the last minute ones. The environment was amazing and well put together. BUT.. This is nothing compared to the quality of food that was provided to us. I've eaten a lot of sushi in my life at places from lower end to what I thought was high end. Like I mean a lot of sushi, I could live off seafood. This being said. I was like Ego and the head chef on ratatouille. When they where served something that was just mind-blowing. My family normally scarf's down sushi fast. Not here. We took our time and enjoyed each bite as it was the first time we've eaten sushi and fell in love with it all over again. The prices are reasonable for this quality of food and we tried to convince them to open a new location in St. George Utah where I know they would Do Extremally Well. It was my first time visiting, and I took my friend there for a birthday treat. We decided to go for the Omakase to celebrate, and honestly, every single dish from the start was a total surprise. Having lived in Japan for a few years, we're obviously big fans of traditional sushi, but I have to say--the creativity here is on another level. It actually made me wish Japanese sushi was a bit more inventive like this! The fish was incredibly fresh and high quality.
