Anyone who gives this place under 5 stars is a liar. Let's start with WOW quality of fish! The owner flys his fish in from California and has been in this industry for years! I would say that this place is even better than Sugarfish in Los Angeles and even better than Nobu. The prices?! ARE YOU KIDDING SO LOW! We have now gone twice in a week and have absolutely gorged ourselves with food and with 20% tip only cost us 80! For two people and a large hot sake! I would reccomend this to anyone and everyone! A simple and straightforward sushi spot. Classic rolls in this plaza complex. Lots of parking and other food establishments in this area as well. Their appetizers and sushi are the best items here. We got an array of rolls and they all turned out fine. For appetizers the Brussel Sprouts and Japanese Sweet Potato Fries were great for sharing. BEST SUSHI IN UTAH, NO COMPETITION. I got the Omakase set as well as 2 pieces of fatty yellowtail nigiri and wow-- I was blown away by the high quality of the sushi, the freshness of the fish, the great service, and AMAZING prices ($32 for the Omakase-- what?!). I grew up in Honolulu, and have spent significant amounts of time in west coast cities such as LA, SF, SD, and SEA, and this place stacks up to my expectations for those areas, but with cheaper prices. I was almost nervous to post this review because I don't want to make it hard for me to get a table here, but they are beyond deserving of a rave review. I am so thrilled that after living in Utah for almost 7 years, I have finally found a sushi spot that reminds me of home. We got in pretty late before they closed. No wait, the service was great, and the decor looked really nice. The server was very helpful when we asked for recommendations. The sushi chefs were really personable and we were impressed with their work. We got 3 rolls. Ika sushi, where have you been all this time. I just recently discovered this little gem in Midvale right across Topgolf. 10/10 quality of fish I am so surprised! Chicken Karaage was not as bad, I would try a different appetizer next time. My top favorite is their Highway 215 roll that I will order over and over again. I've had better sushi at other restaurants but for not being close to any bodies of water it was ok. I went here for the first time with my cousin and it's a cute small restaurant. We went during lunch time so it was super quiet. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive. We got the hamachi Kama which I loved and chicken teriyaki for the kids which the kids devoured. As for sushi, we for the play boy, sunset, beat it and baked salmon. I've never tried their rolls...I should because their omakase is so good. The nigiris are always fresh and well balanced. One tiny dollop of whatever on top of all nigiris melt in your mouth. I love this place so much that my husband and I (mainly me) try not to go more than one time a month or order more than 2 times a month. I'm salivating at the thought of omakase. Great dining experience at Ika Sushi. Went for my wife's birthday. We have tried many sushi restaurants in the Salt Lake valley, wanted to try some place new. We definitely was not disappointed. I'm always on the hunt for new sushi spots and hadn't heard of this place but going off Yelp reviews, we decided to give it a try--and we're glad we did! It's well worth the visit. The place is small, simple, in a strip mall but it's really all about the food and it absolutely a solid 4/5! We got the calamari appetizer which was a little chewy but the batter was great with a little spicy kick. It didn't come with any kind of sauce which I felt it needed. We got the Blue Dynamite (my fav of the evening), the tornado roll, the beat it roll and a couple others. I'd absolutely go back and try a couple of others and the wide variety of nigiri or omakase offerings! There was only one waitress for the entire place but she handled every table extremely well by herself. Eventually a couple others came into the restaurant to help as the place filled up. I have been to Ika several times. The tempura is always crisp and good. I usually order the miso cod, a favorite. But on the most recent visit, the cod was disappointing. It used to be a nice filet piece, but this time it was two very thin skimpy slices. The kids meal Yakisoba was very plain and didn't have much of a Yakisoba flavor, hard to say if the adult version would be the same flavor or if it was simplified for kids. Either way that was really the only subpar item we had tried after our kiddo didn't want it. Hard to find blue fin Tuna and Toro at a lot of Utah sushi spots. These guys have it all the time. I got nigiri with these two fish and they were so good! Vegas roll was one of the best I've had. Rock shrimp roll was also fantastic, best shrimp I've had even on the coast. Fish portions were plentiful and cut thick with low rice ratio, which is a great sign of a good sushi place. We also tried the rice cake with spicy albacore, nothing to write home about and wouldn't recommend. It's located in a strip mall and very unassuming. But the sushi is 100% worth the trip from anywhere in the valley. Will definitely be going back to try more rolls and the halibut carpaccio. Best sushi place in SLC! Their omakase is actually thoughtfully crafted with an appropriate and small amount of different sauces that highly the fish (instead of smothering). The uni is fresh, the negi toro maki roll was made with care, I could taste they included some shiso leaves to balance out the fatty tuna. The more Americanized food is good too, the tempura, calamari, albacore garlic roll all taste good and fresh. I tried a number of highly rated other sushi places in the area but they mostly have just smothered with sauce American sushi, is terribly inconsistent, or is decent but only to scratch the itch. We called to ask what kind of sushi is in the omakase set today. They guy over the phone said: FOR SURE toro, maybe fatty yellowtail, maybe uni, maybe golden snapper. I thought great, all the ones I like, then we ordered two other rolls on the side instead of those. To my disappointment, there's NO toro, NO fatty yellowtail, NO uni. There's in fact snapper (smallest piece) and TWO mackerel. What kind of omakase gives two of the identical pieces? We ordered two sets, so we got 4 mackerel, which is the fish I hated the most. So I got Tuna, salmon, scallop, red snapper, golden snapper, squid, fish egg, halibut and 2 mackerels, and a spicy tuna handroll (not good!). All the fish tasted bland except for the golden eye snapper. What happened for sure toro? Even I didn't get all the "maybe" stuff but if I got the "for sure toro", I wouldn't be as disappointed. On top of that, I think they forgot to giving us the order, we waited over an hour. They did give us 10% discount for that on their own. (We didn't ask about it) I ended up eating dinner at 9.
