The cafeteria style restuarant inside IKEA is a far cry from gourmet eating, but what else would you expect in a furniture store? On my recent visit to IKEA, I stopped in for some delicious swedish meatballs, served with veggies and mashed potatoes. For the price, it is hard to find a better deal. The meatballs and mashed potatoes were fantastic, the side of veggies was a little under seasoned, but otherwise I was really happy with the meal. It's the perfect midshopping snack that gives you the energy to keep shopping. They do have a lot of variety for menu items and plenty of options for picky eaters as well. The staff that work in the restaurant are always nice and accommodating with questions. For a cafeteria style dining area, it always stays pretty clean and the staff comes by quickly to clean or address issues. Probably not the best meal in town, but I will definitely be back the next time I need to go on a furniture run. read more

However, you'll be happy to know, as I was, that the meals are cooked and dished up by staff members-served cafeteria style. All I had to do was select my dish and pay. Sometimes I crave Swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes from IKEA because they're solid, filling, and consistent, but our recent experiences here were a little disappointing. The veggies were partly frozen, our meatballs were weirdly overcooked, and the portion size of the mashed potatoes seemed way smaller than usual. I am a pretty petite person and even I wasn't satisfied with what felt like just a few bites of food. If you aren't deterred by the quality, you could also double the meatball portion or add the salad bar, a roll, or dessert. If you sign up for a free IKEA Family account, you can get free coffee and tea whenever you come, which is the way to go. Their coffee is decent and a nice break from trekking around the store. I think they only offer ceramic mugs so you have to drink them in the food court area (can't take it to-go) but there is a ton of seating and you can get a little chill moment. Might skip the lunch next time we're here unless the kids are starving, but would always happily get a cup of joe for what always ends up being a long visit at IKEA. read more

I have been to Ikea a few times now and while I have always wanted to check out their food, I never made it over there until today. I was slightly confused. with the system. It was an IDENTICAL experience to a cruise ship; the windows, the trays, everything. Everyone always goes off about the Swedish meatballs and honestly, there wasn't much else I wanted on the menu. When I first walked into Ikea, they displayed a chicken wrap that looked pretty good...however, once I saw these items up close, I changed my mind pretty quickly. The salads and wraps were wilting in a premade container. They were in a bowl, plastic wrapped and then refrigerated. Well, the refrigeration was causing a lot of moisture within the bowl so I can imagine they were very soggy. I am not a fan of salmon and the chicken tenders didn't even look good so meatballs were my only realistic choice. Again, I also felt like in order for me to have the full ikea experience, I needed to have their famous Swedish dish. The meal was actually pretty dang good. I also enjoyed the price. It was less than $7 for the meal...which granted, you don't get a lot with it, I still thought it was a reasonable price, especially with inflation and all that going on. The flavor was pretty awesome. It reminded me a lot of thanksgiving. The broccoli was good and I loved the potatoes. The gravy they put on the meatballs was an awesome added touch. The meatballs had great flavor and texture...and I am not a big fan of meatballs. You will never see meatballs on my spaghetti for example. I am not sure if it was my own food or someone near me, but there started to be a horrendous dog food smell that ruined my appetite. I do take a while to eat, so maybe it ferments to puppy chow after 29 minutes and 59 seconds. Not sure but it was super odd as everything was good and then it just wasn't. The fact that Ikea has a restaurant is super cool, and perhaps even a necessity considering it takes a good two hours to walk through the showrooms, so you're likely going to feel a bit peckish by the time you make your way to that area of the store. They have various entrée options: a few for breakfast, several for lunch and dinner, a small salad bar, plus some desserts and packaged treats at checkout. Positives: the seating area is quite nice: Large, and there are even sections with couches and cushy armchairs. The drink selection is pretty great as it comprises various sodas (including lignonberry), a coffee machine with several options (my husband had an Americano and said it was fairly good), and hot chocolate. If you're an Ikea Family Member you can get a cup of coffee for free. The price of meals is very inexpensive. Unfortunately that's about all I can say that's good. To start with, I should admit I've never been a fan of Ikea's famous Swedish meatballs, and I understand they have a dedicated following by many. Though I have found some decent snacks at the grocery area after checkout, their prepared food reminds me much of their furniture, which is to say, cheap, and I guess it gets the job done (i.e. satiating hunger), but it's not tasty. At all. I've had lunch here before, and while I don't remember what I ordered I do remember it not being good. Most recently I shared their Swedish American breakfast with my husband, and it was honestly the worst meal I've had in years. I'm not exaggerating. He is less picky than I am, and was completely in agreement. The eggs were definitely those fake powdered type, the pancakes were squishy and slimy, the sausage was like a meat flavored sponge....the potatoes were acceptable in that they didn't make me want to throw up, but that was about their only redeeming quality. I wasn't expecting a super delightful meal, but the extent of it's terrible-ness was still surprising. Honestly, it made me sad for the sake of food in the US. If people are cleaning their plates after ordering that horrible breakfast (and they were!), what else are they eating? What kind of life are you living if you think that's acceptable? If you must get something just get a drink, and maybe one of their desserts, but anything that's actually a regular meal I would avoid entirely. read more

I remember coming here many times when I was younger and enjoying their food, especially their mashed potatoes. I usually got the kids meal and it usually filled me up. The "interior" of the IKEA Restaurant is clean, very spacious. However, I remember the IKEA Restaurant being a lot busier when I was younger. Driving bangater and saw ikea advertise the 2$ and so I had to try it! came in and the people were friendly and the options were amazing! I came here with just the breakfast deal in mind so I stuck with it with 1$ 4 meatballs. The breakfast deal comes with eggs, potatoes, sausage link, and a crepe like thing. For 2$ this is probably the best breakfast deal anywhere period. The crepe has a really gelatinous texture which I personally was not a fan of but everything else was good. The meatballs are pretty amazing. The drink options are fun and different with its lingonberry and pear soda and it's not overwhelmingly sweet like regular soda. It's a unique little cafeteria here, usually very loud and swarming with kids. It's inexpensive, food is precooked and warmed in bins. Flavors and freshness are hit and miss ranging from terrible (salmon, pastas and dry apple cake) to pretty good (meatballs, mashed potato and gravy, garlic bread). Meatballs have that chewy, spongy texture due to being frozen, but they're pretty good with that tasty gravy and a touch of lingonberry jam. I've only had the horse meat balls, I have yet to try the veggie version. I still miss the original large meatballs they served here. They had better flavor. We sometimes eat here during or after a long shop. Prices are more than fair. Sometimes tables don't get cleaned fast enough. My wife and I both had the Swedish meatballs with seasonal vegetables tonight for dinner. The portions are smaller than they used to be, but the pricing is the same, $4.99. The meatballs were under seasoned and kind of mushy. Vegetables and mashed potatoes were nothing special. Even my favorite IKEA beverage, the Lingon berry juice tasted watered down. Food snobs - don't come to Ikea for a Michelin star experience. This is Scandinavian comfort food at a CAFETERIA with reasonable prices. I love the idea of grabbing a light lunch before ambling through the store. Try the open-faced sandwiches. The shrimp sandwich or the gravlax are both tasty. They're light, interesting flavors, and you won't feel like you have a brick in your guts afterward. Skip the sodas, go for the lingonberry drinks or some herbal tea. Once a week we got to ikea whether we feel like spending a load of cash on their functional and frugal goods or not. Why? For the 1.99 all you can eat pasta night on Mondays! Not much more to say. Everything I've ever had from the eatery was incredibly delicious, I'm addicted to the zucchini marinara, which it turned out you could buy by the jar downstairs, and also the strawberry cake (which you could also buy but I have yet to do so). What you are getting is really a smart design totally built around the concepts of efficiency, sustainability, function, and of course common courtesy, just like the rest of ikea. The selection is flexible, allowing you to get pretty much any combination of the items they offer, and the whole experience is no-nonsense. The staff there treat us very nicely, even before they started recognizing us as regulars. Despite the unfailingly excessive amounts of unsupervised and untethered children running around (and their clueless parents equally as often getting in your way whilst wandering about the place), it keeps bringing us back every week. read more

I am writing this review under the assumption that no sane person would enter IKEA just to eat in the restaurant. If you are that kind of person I will save you some time--you're gonna hate this review. Entering IKEA means giving up a piece of your soul, IMHO. I just can't fathom how big and boxy and mass-oriented this place is. I know that it serves a purpose--college students and Swedes need a place to shop for wastebaskets. I did buy some lovely CD racks there, but I'd be happy if I never entered again. IKEA obviously has to have a place to eat inside. The store is sooo damn big that it would be illegal to not provide food or first aid to those who enter. I'd like to suggest IKEA lagwagons that could follow the old & infirm around the store: "Middle aged man down in sector 4! Get some bamboo salad tongs and a sack of frozen lingon berries here stat!" The food in the IKEA cafeteria is similar to what you might get in a Swedish reform school. There is the usual selection of meatballs, salmon, pasta, etc. You can "treat" yourself to a Lingonberry soda if you like sodas that taste like jelly. Have fun bussing your own tray and table and doing all the thinking for the animatrons working there. The employees are fed a low level of Mercury by IKEA to keep their intellectual curiosity at a minimum. It's sad what a yellow shirt and minimum wage can do to a person. I wonder if the awful quality of the food at IKEA says more about the Swedes opinion of Americans...or the Swedes opinion of food in general. I need to poll some actual Swedes to gain insight. In the meantime, don't eat at IKEA. I recommend bringing your own sustenance if you're gonna be shopping close to mealtime. read more

I'm reviewing the food stand right by the check outs. . next to the doors. 1st of all... Cinnamon rolls. Usually they are soooooo good. Soft, and delicious. This time... Dry. Possibly a few days old? 2nd. . we got 2 hotdogs and a drink.. You stand in line between where the drink machines are, but you are between the back of the machines. . so you cannot see what drinks their are. Sort of throws a person off when you go one time and there is soda... Then the next time you go... There is NO soda options... Just some crap that resembles super watered down koolaid. 3rd... Went to put ketchup on my hotdog and it was as close to as runny as water as it could get... Ew. So i asked for another one and threw that hotdog away. I went to the ketchup on the other side... Same thing. Sooo... They either SERIOUSLY need to stir the heck out of it... Or they seriously add water to their ketchup to make it last longer? Either way that is terrible. Our entire experience was RIDICULOUS! We should have asked for our money back. Nothing like driving an hour (each way) to get crap for food. Really upset super pregnant lady right here. read more

I was impressed with this little food court. I personally would come here more often if it weren't so far! It's much better than a big Mac, or french fries. Prices were reasonable (kids meals for $3.99, or free on Tuesdays!) and they have a good looking bunch buffet on Sundays - I think it was $7.99 (or $8.99, can't remember the exact price). This place used to be better. One of our only motivations to go to a place where it's tempting to buy was their offering of free kids meals on Tuesdays. But communication is slim and very inconsistent. A few months ago, this place was buzzing on Tuesdays, but then suddenly, it became dead. I heard from the rumor mill that this was because they changed their policy from kids and parents eat free to only kids eat free. But I funny believe this because I never heard that parents ever ate for free. But being that this is Utah, this seemed plausible. On another front, the communication about what kids eat free had been inconsistent. Several times we were charged for the kids meals - what clearly is marked as kids meals. One associate told us she made a mistake and made it up to us by giving us a pack of biscuits. Another one told us that the kids grilled chicken - basically very dry, tasteless chicken, a few strips of carrot, and a strawberry was not free. Just the meatballs. To top it all off, as dead as this place is on Tuesdays these days, the tables were people eat, are regularly left uncleaned. So we've had to clean it ourselves. I get returning the trays, but cleaning the tables too? If your motivation to come here is the same as mine, save the trouble and find the many other restaurants that offer a kids eat free option. On the plus side, you can still get free coffee and tea with the Ikea family card. That might be the sole motivation at this point. :) read more

Not as good a value as I remember. The meatballs & potatoes are always great. If it's your first time here, just accept the fact that you are getting them, and that you will like them. The Caesar salad was the worst I've had: limp lettuce, soggy croutons, stale chicken. The Greek chicken orzo soup is really good. The turkey ham & cheese panini is ... a grilled ham & cheese sandwich. It's not a real panini, but not bad either. The grilled chicken fingers are pretty standard fare. I like the breaded French fries that come with a lot of meals. For dessert, that chocolate overload cake is pretty great, but be careful cause they can sit out for a long time and get a stale layer on top so be choosy. Overall, the food is cafeteria food, but not as bad as middle school food was by any means. The food cost more than I expected, and wasn't the great value I remember. So if you've been lost wandering in the store for hours and are famished, sure, stop by and grab a bite. But definitely don't come here just for the meal. read more

Ill start my review by saying that i do love the meatballs! That being said, this pleace really is just medeocure at best. I dont expect much, being that it is a warehouse store cafeteria, but they could do better with all the equipment they have in there. I ate here a couple days in a row and then a couple more times the following week because we were in the process of fully furnishing out house, so i had a few different specials, and none of them were anywhere as good as the meatballs. Ikea's in store restaurant is convenient and not all that bad either. I wouldn't order the hot items (Swedish Meatballs included) or desserts but I do like their cold salmon plates and simple salads. Ikea now has vegetarian gluten free "meat" balls. They are pretty good, and taking the fam here to eat is inexpensive while shopping at Ikea. The service is pretty terrible, though. Both times we've eaten here, the lady serving our food has a total bad attitude, and seems completely annoyed with the presence of the guests she is serving. It just happened to be the same woman both times we've dined there... maybe someone else would have made our experience better. A good point about this place is that it's super kid friendly, it has a kid eating area with toys, games, and cartoons. And kid meals are super cheap. read more

IKEA's cafeteria is bland. So very, very bland. It's cheap, though. I've eaten there on the few occasions that I have been trapped inside IKEA, unable to find my way out and have gotten so hungry that I would have eaten anything and loved it.
