This cafeteria deserves a solid 4 star because its pretty cheap and relative healthy options. You feel like you are in a school or a hospital cafeteria. It seems like they have a breakfast and a lunch menu. Each one with good choices. I happened to be there for lunch time. The menu has different options from meatballs, vegie balls, and grilled salmon among others. I ordered vegie balls with vegetables. This meal came with some type of black bean chilli. The overall taste was pretty simple with not much spices and salts. I mean is a cafeteria style food type I was not expecting rich flavor. But nevertheless I enjoyed my meal. I added a garlic toast and the total came out to be $5.69. This is a Great price for a healthy meal. The cafeteria is located on the second floor right after the long maze. Came here to buy a lamp, but I had to drop by their restaurant for their famous meatballs. When i got to the restaurant I noticed that they had a new item on their menu: half slab of baby back ribs with fries and corn bread (which could be substituted for garlic bread) for only 7.99! What a deal! I decided to get that instead of the meatballs since I'm a sucker for bbq ribs. The ribs tasted OK. The sauce wasn't too impressive, i think i could buy better bbq sauce at my local super market. Overall, i wasn't too impressed with the ribs. I thought the price was good, but the quality of that dish wasn't. I'll definitely be going back to the restaurant, but for the MEATBALLS only. read more

This IKEA store is definitely one of the better ones I have been to. It's usually well-stocked, clean and well lit. Be forewarned, though: if you go on a Sunday, it WILL be packed with families. If I do visit this IKEA on the weekends, I try to go in the early morning or during the week, if possible. While I don't make huge purchases from this store because my current space is really small--I bought a bookshelf and kitchen ware--it's always fun to peruse the furniture and dream up my ideal kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and office space! Plus, you never what you may find, since IKEA is always bringing in new gadgets. Some of my favorite sections of the store itself include: the kitchen section (I got my napkin holder, ice cream scoop, Ziplocs, napkins and more all from here), bathroom section (they have the best bathmats) and office section (for magazine holders and other things you may need in an office). Also be sure to check the "As-Is" section if you're looking for some gently used furniture at a cheaper price. One of the best features about this IKEA store is the restaurant (which is different from the food area that you pass by to get to the store exit). There's a full-on café at this location, with ample seating space--very different from the Torrance IKEA that I visited before. This café was also easy to find and convenient to access ... I've already enjoyed dinner here several time! And pay attention to the signs (both when you enter IKEA and when you enter the café), because they'll be most likely promoting their specials of the day. Here are some things to keep your eyes peeled for: "Swedish Meatballs": IKEA is famous for these meatballs, so the BF finally ordered a plate of them (10, I think) for his dinner entrée one day. The meatballs are bite size--so if you're hungry, get a lot because you won't get full off of these--and they come with mashed potatoes, cream sauce and lingonberries. I tasted one of his meatballs just to see what all the fuss was about. I wouldn't say these meatballs are the best I've ever tasted in my life, but I did enjoy the flavor and seasoning. And, because they're bite-sized, they're very easy to eat and digest! "Fish & Chips": This meal is certainly a deal, but you do get what you pay for -- aka, one piece of fish and some fries. I got this entrée once, and the fish was lightly battered and sported a moist interior. The fries were also good -- not too crispy and crunchy for my liking. "99-Cent Monday Breakfast": I usually never get to IKEA on a Monday, but you can benefit from 99¢ breakfast until 11 a.m.! I only recently found out about this, so I'll definitely have to make sure to go to IKEA on the next Monday I have off. The breakfast includes eggs, bacon and potatoes ... definitely too good of a deal to pass up! "Chicken Tenders with Fries": I never got this entrée before, but since it features crispy chicken tenders and French fries--no fuss, no frills and pretty traditional--I'm sure I'll enjoy it. "Monte Cristo": This was probably the entrée I got on my first trip to the IKEA café. I had seen pictures of it for a while but never had the chance to try it, but I absolutely love Monte Cristos ... they're one of my favorite sandwiches. This one featured your traditional meat and cheese (turkey, ham and Swiss I think) and I asked for the jam on the side. The sandwich was made to order, so I had to wait a few minutes for my meal--seemed like it was panini-pressed--but I loved the melted cheese blended with the deli-like meats. And, the sandwich exterior was perfectly crispy without being overly hard. "Roasted Chicken": This Thursday special is available for just $3.99 on this designated day of the week, and it comes with mashed potatoes and veggies. For this meal deal, I definitely wouldn't mind trying this entrée one day. "Chocolate Cake": I've never gotten this chocolate cake from the café before, but I always wanted to try it. I normally don't really go for cake, but this version looks super chocolaty and perfect for a chocoholic like me. "Frozen Yogurt": This is probably my favorite thing from the downstairs bistro ... you can't get $1 soft serve at any other place! I like this soft serve--even though it comes in a cone (and I don't like ice cream in cones)--because it's sweet and creamy, yet it's soft serve, making it easy to eat. Plus, it doesn't melt super quickly, so I can easily keep up with my cone and avoid any sticky messes. 6-Pack Cinnamon Buns: I've always wanted to try the cinnamon buns available in the food section/at the bistro, so I'll have to order them one day. I think it's only $4 for the entire pack (or one cinnamon bun for $1), so you score a deal either way! read more

It's all about meatboll plate baby! 15 or so Swedish meatballs, scoop of mashed potatoes, a big spoonfull of lingonberries (kind of like a sweeter cranberry), and gravy... at about 5 bucks, you can't go wrong! Filling, tasty, comforting. Plus they have weekly specials where you can get them even cheaper! (I think Tuesdays or something). I believe they also have $2 breakfast plates here with bacon, and eggs and pancakes or something. I gotta say tho, the salad bar is pretty weak and the pastas weren't all that either. Came in last week because I had heard so many great things about their Swedish meatballs. They were good, but that's it - it wasn't anything spectacular or something I'd get again, but I'm glad I tried it out. The mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce it came with were tasty and paired very well the meatballs. The prices for food are great - really under $10 and they have a 99 cent breakfast plate. I am very turned off by powdered/boxed eggs, so I wouldn't get that again. I also didn't know it'd be more like cafeteria style, but there's nothing wrong with that! Ok, so this is Ikea. I'm referring to the 2nd floor restaurant and Yelp has no category for Swedish or just plain restaurants so diner will have to suffice. They have a manager's special - seems to be constant here - $5.99 for about 16 Swedish meatballs covered in a gravy, some red objects (perhaps cranberries), and a boiled potato along with a salad or soup and a dinner roll. I believe the beverage is extra - perhaps $0.69 but I can't recall at the moment. The special is not too bad. Watch for shady people here though, especially on the items you can take yourself off the racks (such as cheesecake, etc). I have observed several people take plates, some even sniffing them, and then putting them back on the rack for others to unsuspectingly take. People, didn't your parents teach you how to behave in public? Once you've taken, touched, smelled it - it's yours. Do not put it back on the rack for the next person. If you don't want it then tell someone or place it on top of the cooler where no one is likely to take it. We don't want to share your germs or other nasty habits. Drink glasses are small here - perhaps these are the size they serve in the "home country." Expect a 6 oz glass. At least the refills are free - by the time you get ice in that glass you will have a 3 oz drink and constant trips back to the soda machine. I've not had the chance to try a breakfast here yet. The objects displayed in the picture for that meal "intrigue" me. Finally, people - you need to buss your own tables here. That means taking your tray back to the tray return and not leaving it for you mom, maid, the next customer, etc. to clean up. Don't be so rude and lazy! I'd stop here every now and then but it's nothing special. Perhaps if I had a 100% love affair with Swedish meatballs it would be different. I'd be more likely to make a return visit to the snack shop on the 1st floor for a $0.75 hot dog. You have to love a store that makes you walk every isle before you can leave! Low prices, Large Selection and Easily Transportable Furniture. This Ikea in Mission Valley is always well stocked and organized. Some of the furniture in Ikea is obviously cheap looking and is to be avoided, but most of it stands up to the interior decorating critics out there. The only issue with Ikea layout is when you get to the checkout stand and the checker tells you that you picked up a display piece. Am I the only one this happens to? So I had to walk back through the entire store to replace it. A little bit frustrating wouldn't you say? But all and all it is a fun store to shop at and as expensive as furniture is I think we need as many options as possible. read more

Desserts are very tasty as well. And, it's all very cheap. By the way, the berries are called lingonberries and can be compared to cranberries. One night I was craving meatballs, yes meatballs... so I decided to come to IKEA because of all the advertisements for the Swedish meatballs I'd seen while shopping at IKEA. Strangely enough I enjoyed my dining experience here, especially since you wouldn't particularly think a furniture store would have a decent and tasty dish. The "restaurant" is very cafeteria-ish and is specifically there to feed hungry shoppers. The selection is small... meatball dish, bbq ribs dish, and/or some salad or desserts. As for the food quality, it's definitely not award winning... but hits the meatball spot when you're in a pinch. Overall, I enjoyed my dining experience... but IKEA has very close comparisons to a high school cafeteria food. I'll still probably come back though. read more

There's something oddly exciting about eating at a furniture store. What is it about the Ikea restaurant that sucks you in, even when the food is the same quality as a school cafeteria? The first few years I discovered Ikea, like a decade ago, I actually thought the meatballs and gravy was good. Yup, I even bought it frozen and made it at home. ick. I will still eat it now, occasionally, but I feel gross about myself afterwards. Today, I found myself in Ikea in the morning. There are big signs advertising a 99 cent breakfast.....how can you not be sort of interested? Plus, with the free "family" card, you get free coffee. So I got the breakfast, which included scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, and really gross sausages. For $3 instead of $1, you can add pancakes, but alas, they were out this morning. It wasn't great. I thought...ok a pile of crayfish (still would be a good deal)...but no, cheese and crackers, drinks and coffee, salads, meatballs and potatoes, and desserts. The IKEA Restaurant reminds me of elementary school cafeteria food, but not in as bad of a way it seems. It's nostalgic, it's cheap, it does the job. I'm half Swedish - and growing up my grandfather used to make Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce. It was home to me. Fast forward to tasting the IKEA version for the first time and it was so similar - I was so pleased. Plot twist, MY GRANDFATHERS WERE NEVER HOMEMADE - I WAS LIED TO! infuriating. But never mind all that, we're not even going to get into the deceptions of my childhood. You can't beat the prices. Dirt cheap for a hot meal and a princess cake (because how can you not?) and they have insane daily specials. Is this a culinary destination you'll run to? No. get real. But after wandering around room after room of housewares and you're tired and grouchy and in need of some sustenance - this place will be your safe haven. It will fill your stomach, it might even fill your heart, but it isn't anything to write home about. We dine here a couple times and the food is not bad for the price. Breakfast: they served breakfast from 930am-11am daily. They even have $1 breakfast which comes with eggs, sausage and potatoes. Although we opt for a Swedish breakfast which is basically the $1 breakfast and Swedish pancake for $2.99 still not a bad price. Coffee is .75 cents and free refill. I've heard so much about Ikea and their Swedish meatballs so when my mom needed to buy more packs of her favorite scented tealight candles, I jumped on the opportunity! For $4.99 you get about 15 meatballs, a scoop of mashed potatoes, gravy, and a heaping spoonful of lingonberry. The meatballs with gravy were good, but nothing beats homemade. I wasn't sure about the lingonberry at first but then they started to grow on me, and the mashed potatoes were average at best. The princess cake my mom and I shared (less than $2) was good too, but there was something off about it.. I can't quite put my finger on it. Is it wrong to love the cafeteria at IKEA so so much?! If it is, then I don't wanna be right. I love getting a piece of apple tort and sipping coffee on a random weekday morning. I almost feel like I'm in a European cafe... almost. I also love the open-faced shrimp sandwich on rye bread. Its small, lite, affordable, and super delicious. You really cannot find a comparable item on a menu anywhere else in San Diego. And the kids' meals are so cheap, I can fill them up for under $6 for the two of them and they love all the choices just for them. Plus, the food is served on plates that are vaguely familiar... I don't know how close their taste is to the actual Swedish meatballs, but it's awesome. The gravy it comes with is great too! I don't really care much for the lingonberry jam on the side, all I go to there for is their meatballs and mashed potatoes. The lingonberry juice is great! I've also had the gravlax (smoked salmon and a mustard-like sauce with herbs for garnish and some salad greens underneath), it was a bit salty and a bit too herby for me. It was still good though. The chocolate cake finished off our meal. It's yummy! For an in-store cafe, their food is pretty good and inexpensive! I think their meatball meal dropped from $4.99 to $3.99 now, so go go go! Overall, it's what you expect out of IKEA food. Cheap, quick, convenient. Portions are conservatively sized to keep you from falling asleep on the show floor. Reviewing the Swedish Meatball dish at this point is like beating a dead horse so I'm going to go a different route. So you got the Swedish Meatball dish, now the important question. Do I get the Elderflower or Lingonberry juicebox? DRYCK FLÄDER or DRYCK LINGON? I prefer the elderflower over lingonberry. Since the meatball plate already includes lingonberry sauce, getting a drink based off the same fruit with the same flavor is redundant and doesn't add anything to the meal. The Elderflower is nice because it adds a different flavor to the meal, it's less sweet and the floral profile is uplifting and cleanses the palate. If you've ever had chrysanthemum tea, the taste is very similar. I choose FLÄDER over LINGON. read more

Always been a fan of good cheap eats at all IKEA stores. This one was notable because they had new items that we tried for the first time and liked. (Been a while since we shopped at an IKEA.) For starters, they added two additional choices for meatballs from the traditional beef, chicken and veggie. My wife got the chicken and liked them. I got the usual beef but you can add 4 meatballs to your plate for only a $1, so I asked for veggie ones to try. Sure, I like my beef but I did say to my wife that if I were going meatless I'd be pleased with the vegetable balls. They also had some waxy green beans which I appreciated somewhat more than my wife. Some textures of certain vegetables she doesn't care for much. We had a meatball plate, a fried chicken tender plate, an almond chocolate tart, a tomato soup and some drinks. The biggest draw to the IKEA restaurant is that it is in the middle of IKEA. IKEA can be pretty exhausting, so it's nice to have the option to grab something to eat or drink. Even though I'd been to IKEA many times in the pet, it wasn't until today that I tried out the restaurant. I have heard about the meatballs for years- my sister in law is particularly obsessed. Clearly there was no other option but to try them. My husband and I split a plate of meatballs, mashed potatoes and jam. They were pretty good! Not better than meatballs I'd make at home or could find in any other restaurant, but still tasty. I have to admit the jam is a tangy and pleasant accompaniment. The downside to the meatballs is that we left lunch feeing even more tired than before! It was a heavy meal that didn't energize us for the rest of the shopping. IKEA has the Best chicken tenders I've ever had. You get 4 chicken tenders with a generous amount of French fries, for around 5 bucks, the best part is that this plate is BUY ONE GET ONE FREE! So you get a ton of fries, and 8 tenders for 5 dollars! They have self serve ketchup, ranch, mayo, mustard, and drinks. Every Tuesday, they have their meatballs for 2 dollars I believe, you get about 15 meatballs, mashed potatoes and a yummy lingonberry sauce. I've had the meatballs are they are great! IKEA has the cheapest prices and some of the best food for what it's worth. I rather go eat at IKEA than tgi Fridays or chilis! The only reason why I even came in here is because I was supposed to meet up with a few friends at 10 am but they neglected to adjust their alarm clocks for daylight savings time, so I had time to kill. Overall the food isnt bad and it probably wont make you sick but its pure filler. I really have no reason to come back unless I have my niece or nephews and I can feed them for 99 cents each. DUDE. SERIOUSLY. DUDE. BEST MEATBALL PASTA for mad cheap! I love this place! Their marinara dressing with meatball pasta is amazing. This is all that I get when I'm there. If you want to go there for lunch go up the stairs and cut through the hallway to the right and you will not have to pass through that showroom maze. This place was always been a cheap breakfast spot and I've been here a few times over the years. It's just a little off to drive to a furniture store to have breakfast. But you know, it's totally worth it, the food is cheap, good and the service is friendly. The workers keep the tables pretty clean, most of the time the only people in there for breakfast are either Senior Citizens or stay at home Mom's with their kids and the occasional bargain breakfast hunter like myself. Have yet to try their lunch time food, but I'm pretty sure that it wont be half bad. read more
