Not only do the swedes design great furniture but they also can cook delicious food too! One of the main reasons I'm a fan of Ikea is I love grabbing a quick bite to eat in their restaurant. The food here is seriously legit. I mean where else can I get a plate of swedish meatballs and fries covered in gravy! MMMM delicious. I think everything they make there is pretty tasty but I usually always get the plate of swedish meatballs which are very juicy and flavorful. The combination of gravy makes it that much more delicious. 5 out of 5 stars! I also sometimes get the lox plate which is also very good. 4 out of 5 stars. And their fries may be simple but they are very tasty and can compete with any other fries in SD. 4 out of 5 stars. To wash it all down I always like to get an ice cold glass of lingoberry juice. Not only does it taste great but the name is fun to say. Reminds me of gummy bear juice from the old gummy bear cartoons. hehe The price is just right to keep me coming back. Very inexpensive considering the food you're getting. Another great thing about Ikea is that almost everything in the restaurant can be purchased in their market store downstairs so you can cook it at home. We decided to try out some of the grub IKEA presents. First of all the place is a madhouse. Pretty busy for a joint that sells frozen foods, err, fresh food. First the Veggie Wrap:, carrots, onions, bell peppers, red onions, bean sprouts, cucumber. This one was actually ok, could use a little bit of sauce because it was dry, maybe chipotle ranch dressing. We got potato chips and drink for an extra 1.49 Then I got Swedish meatballs with gravy and mash potatoes and cranberry sauce. This was not any better. Like I said in the beginning, FROZEN FOOD. This post is all about IKEAs restaurant! This food is very affordable but super delicious. I decided to go to IKEA after the gym and found that I was starving so decided to take a risk. That risk turned out to be one of the best choices I made today lol. I approached the restaurant around 11:30am just in time for breakfast. With plenty of options I went with the Salmon and wheat bagel. Salmon for 3.99 is unheard of in San Diego. Everything tasted amazing. I also bought a Green Machine Naked juice for 2.99! No mark up! Things you should know before dining at IKEA: (if you've never been before) This is a cafeteria style lunch room, if you ain't down, get your bougie booty out. You first go in line and get your tray. You then have several bottled and boxed drink choices such as the delicious lingonberry or elderflower boxes, water, or other typical American kid juices. You then pass by the cakes/desserts which you can just slide the cases open for, and grab yourself. Then on to the prepared salads. The salmon salad looked so good! Not a big heaping pile or anything, but a huge cut of fish, probably 3-4oz. It has some cut romaine and edamame, and other stuff from my quick glance. I also noticed the dressing was on the side, for those picky, "I like light salad dressing" people. Next is the best part, the hot line. I've been eating at IKEA for years, they just fairly recently started offering other meatball options (chicken and veggie) but I drove all the way over here, so I'm getting the stuff I know is good, the Swedish meatballs. If you ask for them, the meal comes with 10, for $4.99. You can also add an extra 5 meatballs for $2 more I believe (I don't remember). The meatball plate comes with a scoop of mashed potatoes, gravy, and a tiny bit of lingonberry sauce. Today I added a slice of garlic toast for $.69. With those, and my 2 lingonberry drinks, came out to $8.something and I was too full to finish my toast. But I'll get back to that in a bit. After the hot line is the build your own salad station and a soup station. There's bread rolls, butter, cutlery and such in this area too. I didn't catch the price on those, but again everything is fairly cheap compared to anywhere else. Then, the cashier! You can also buy fountain drinks since there is a fountain there. Back to the meatballs. The meatballs are great, super tasty and juicy. The gravy is smooth and silky, and the lingonberry sauce adds a tad bit of sweetness and some tartness (?) to give you a break from the heaviness of the meat. The edges of the garlic bread were nice and toasty, but the middle was soggy. Another reason I didn't try too hard to finish it. Lastly, don't be a dick. Clean up after yourself. There are several signs around politely asking people to clean up after themselves in order to keep prices down (from hiring a clean up crew). There are several rolling shelves with plenty of shelves to place your trays and dishes. Be nice and empty your dish contents into the trash, then put your tray & dishes in the shelf. That's all! Then you can shop in that maze and not be so hangry. They also have a mini market section downstairs, incase you absolutely LOVE anything you ate, and want to take some home. In conclusion, the young, cheap skate, college girl in me will love this place forever. This place is great, I would live here. read more

Over the years, the menu has changed ever-so-slightly. The ribs and meatballs are always a good bank-for-the-buck. Personally, I love the spinach and cheese crepes. They are absolutely delish. If you have someone with you, then you should share a dessert too. A downside is when the entire restaurant is booked and blocked off for certain groups that day. My fiance and I are re-doing our living room in our condo, so my bestie and I went to IKEA to pick up some furniture because we're cheap mofos. Before you go into the mystical land of IKEA, however, it's always a great idea to fuel up. We got here when IKEA opened (mostly to avoid traffic and people), but it was already packed as soon as we stepped inside. Whaaaaa. Just like their furniture, their food is ridiculously cheap and affordable. You also get a lot for what you buy, so that's a nice bonus. We decided to get different dishes to share with each other. I got the classic Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes (ugh yum) and some of the Swedish pancakes. Rachel got the waffles (which I noticed were new and hadn't been on the menu before!) and some more meatballs. The food was so, so good... By the time we finished we just wanted to go to the bedroom section so we could take a long nap lol. The workers here are great, the food is fantastic, and there's tons of room and space! It's also pretty clean in the restaurant. Everything here is pretty straight forward, so you get through the line pretty quick. The only downside is seating. It was very unfortunate that we were being helped by JOSELINA while trying to decide what we wanted to get She looked like she hated her job, why work somewhere you hate. If she likes working in kitchens, fine. There's plenty of jobs where you wouldn't have to deal with customers hands on She barely acknowledged us after she helped a family ahead of us. She asked us what plate we wanted but before I could even tell her which items I wanted or if I could change anything out, she walked away from us and made the plate. While doing this, I tried to get her attention but she started talking to an ikea worker that was in line behind us. They started having a full on conversation and just placed my plate down for me to grab and started helping the worker without asking if I was done or not I wanted to order more stuff so I had to try to get her attention. Luckily a younger lady that had just came in to start serving other customers heard me trying to talk to JOSELINA, helped me instead. One thing that got me was she looked so upset helping us, like it was a burden for her to do her job, and when the coworker walked up to her and started chatting, she was happy and actually smiled (didn't know she could even do that from our encounter). Once I got her attention to ask for more stuff, she looked at me like I've upset her and was bothering her when she was the one that didn't check if I was done ordering before she went over to her coworker. Oh I also want to let you guys know, this was my FIRST time here at the "restaurant" section so I did have questions on how to order and what not. When we got up to the cash register, a younger Hispanic lady was working and she was also chatting with her coworker so we had to wait to pay for our food until they finished their conversation... I know this review won't be very fair, because it was not my choice to go to the restaurant inside IKEA. In addition, we did not actually get food (I was dying of thirst, and needed something to drink only. Besides, the food that was being schlepped out on the plates made my tummy flip.) Their drink options aren't that varied. If you're not looking for a soda (which I don't drink) or a kid's drink, you're limited to either a bottle of water or four types of bottled juice. Sure, I would have appreciated a bit more variety, but beggars can't be choosers. I snapped up a bottle of juice and proceeded to get in line behind the most unruly family of a million. Realizing they were going to take their ever-loving time deciding on what to have scooped into their trays, we backpedaled out of the line, and cut in the wrong way. Normally I'd feel guilty about that, but it's not like we were cutting in front of the food-deposit line. Our two bottles of juice ran us over $6. For juice. I'm still at a loss as to why it cost that much, but whatever. We paid for our drink, and tried desperately to skedaddle out of there, and into the store. Of course our egress was blocked by a wall of human flesh, oblivious and uncaring to the fact that they were blocking people. A quick glance behind me showed that both exits were blocked in the same way, so I was forced to wait - patiently - for people to part enough for me to squeeze through them. My perception is that there isn't enough aisle space to allow for a clear path to the entrances/exits. I'm not sure how accurate that is - again, I was doing my best to clear on out of there - but it certainly did feel cramped. read more

You can't go wrong with an Ikea meal. Their swedish meatballs are delicious and the sides are standard for a complete meal. They also have lingonberry sauce which provides a nice sweetness to accompany the dish. It also is reasonably priced for all of the food you are getting! A solid meal whenever you visit. The cafeteria inside of Ikea is worth dinning in for a quick snack before shopping. It's nothing fancy, but it beats any fast food restaurants near by! They serve delicious Swedish Meatballs, mac n' cheese, cornbread, salads, desserts, and the list goes on...I love that it's kid friendly. They have a kid table and play area to keep the kids occupied as the parents are eating. Try the Swedish Meatballs -- they're tasty! Came here for some shelving needs but more of an excuse to try the famous Swedish meatballs. They have a pretty good size cafeteria with desserts, salads, and, of course, the meatballs!! Ordered the Swedish meatballs, wedge salad, a side item, and coffee, totaled at $9. Not bad for a full tray of foods! Quality was okay, more of cafeteria level. I had better meatballs somewhere else for sure. Portion was pretty generous for the price so the meat eater in me was happy. They also had chicken meatballs and vegetarian meatless balls. I was hungry so everything was swallowed in 5 mins. Self service and the cashiers had good attitude. Very casual as people come and go. Had free Wifi but wanted your email before letting you through. The place was spacious and clean with lots tables and seats. Overall, a good place to relax and recharge from all the walking through this gigantic show room!! The line at the IKEA restaurant can get pretty long (especially on a weekend), but the food is pretty tasty, and very reasonably priced. I've enjoyed the chicken fingers and fries with ranch, as well as the Swedish meatballs with seasonal veggies. I LOVED the Swedish meatballs! I definitely recommend paying the extra dollar for additional meatballs, because they're kind of small. And the macaroni and cheese is delicious as well. If you have multiple food trays, you can place them on a 3-tiered shopping cart that's specially made to hold the multiple trays! IKEA is ingenius! If you can deal with long wait times and a lot of slightly annoying people, this place rocks. The food is nothing amazing but it's good- and it's a great deal! I come here maybe once every few months just for fun and I always leave satisfied- even with the 1$ small breakfast. Can't beat that. Eggs, potatoes (I get double as I don't like sausage) and a free cup of coffee if you're a ikea family member. Win all around. The only down side to this place like I mentioned is the line and the seating. It's all cafeteria style and it's super busy so seating can be difficult. We were soooo hungry we couldn't wait to leave IKEA so we decided to try the food here! We ordered the Swedish Meatballs to hold ourselves together until lunch time. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food! The meatballs were so goooood I wish they'd given us more. The veggies and mashed potatoes were good too! I went to Ikea on a Tuesday with my roommates because we needed to get some furniture for our new apartment. Anyway, we decided to eat at Ikea because we had heard that the meatballs here were bombsauce and what we heard was right! They give you 15 meatballs, mashed potatoes, and a side of lingonberry sauce for each meatball order. On Tuesdays, the meatballs are only $2.50. That obviously entitled me to get 2 orders. Easily. The lingonberry sauce was righteous. It wasnt too sweet but it had a lot of flavor in it. I mixed the gravy, lingonberry sauce, and mashed potatoes into one huge pile of delicious mush and ate them with my meatballs. I ate all 30 of those meatballs like a Freakin' Bossssss. I'm not a huge fan of french toast (I like it, but don't love it) but this stuff is awesome. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside with the perfect amount of sweetness. And, as a person with the third-world gene that forces me to make sure every plate at the table is cleared, Ikea's portions are perfect! I can't help but feel that most of it is frozen and not really made there but, they do their best. Swedish meatballs are the bomb!!! Skip the day-care atmosphere of the restaurant and take your swedish meatballs home. A giant bag of meatballs, 2 packets of sauce mix, and a jar of lingonberries is 11.99, and it will make dinner for 2 for at least 4 nights along with potatoes on the side.
