I was EXTREMELY disappointed with my purchase this Tuesday November 15th! Reason being, there was a FiNGERNAIL in my hot MoChA!! Gross,YUCK!!! My appetite completely ruined, as I thought of all the treacherous places human fingernails can be!! And how now all these germs were permeating inside me, YIKES!!! I had to scream!!!!! Given the mocha was good, and I was enjoying it at work. When suddenly this foreign object slipped out of the "sippie lid", I couldn't believe it! People at work told me to call & complain, so I left a message requesting to speak to the owner. I had been to Ike's before, when the first location opened on Speedway, I have always loved this place. The owner needs to know!! Is all I could think about. The manager left a voicemail, informing me that the owner would not return until next week. Aw I wanted the owner to know about this right away, so I decided to leave a voicemail explaining what had happened, this message was left at 930am the following morning, surely the manager would call me back right away, I explained everything. I waited, checked my phone, no call back hmmm that made me upset , no call back!! What kind of manager doesn't call back right away, after a customer complaint like this????? Was the person that called me back really the manager??? What's going on? The owner needs to know about this! This Ikes is a busy hub for the downtown crowd. It sits in the Pioneer Building, sight of the old Pioneer Hotel. Pluses: good sandwiches which are always good. I love the PB & Jazz. Bananas and peanut butter and jelly and apple slices are a nice combo. Comes with a little green salad. Many other good sandwiches here made to order. The drinks are yummy, try some of the specials or homemade concoctions made by the staff (some of the best looking gals anywhere). Those tend to be fun. There is soy milk available if that's your thing. You can get refill prices here if you are a regular. Newspapers available to read. Really good pastries, try the fiber one if you want to be regular. The Pioneer building is cool and is supposedly haunted because of the massive fire they had in the 70s that claimed many lives. It's a nice people watching place, lots of classy looking business folk coming by dressed up real purty. The bad: no wi-fi, so it's not a place to stay if you want to use Internet. It's small so can't have a lot of people there. And the bathrooms require a key and are a bit of a journey to get to. And it's only open until 5:30 Monday through Friday. No weekends or evenings. Street parking difficult- you can park for free under Main Library for 1 hour. Probably best for a quick bite to eat or chill out with a hot or cold drink, but mostly grab-n-go. If you want a place to do homework or hang for a long time, you'll want the Ikes on Speedway which is designed for that. read more

I forgot to today and missed out on some very interesting concoctions! If you're looking for lunch downtown, this is the place to go. My personal favorite is the William Tell - turkey, apple, green chile, mayo on a baguette. Yeah - sounds a little weird but it was wonderful!! The plus is that you can order, then you can cross the street and enjoy your lunch in the park next to the library! This is the best place to hangout while serving on a jury, being sentenced, or whatever your reason for being in court is. Ike's is the closest cafe to the Tucson City Courthouse and other government buildings and businesses, making it perfect for grabbing a bite on the run (or a fugitive on the run, getting food on the run...) They have an iPad checkout, and a huge menu full of sweets, treats, sandwiches and more. I do not recommend their smoothie, however. If you get out for good behavior, stop by Ike's. On the corner of Stone and Pennington, I've eaten lunch here often in the last 16 months or so, as well as buying meals and beverages to go. The downtown Ike's is open Monday through Friday ONLY till 5:30 pm and doesn't have wifi. As expected, the primary clientele is business people. This Ike's doesn't have the ability to cook things so breakfast here will be pastries or granola. There's a limited lunch menu of cold and hot sandwiches and salads, and they're all yummy. The sandwiches come with a green salad. The pastries are mostly the breakfast type. I can usually plan to buy a cookie and/or apple, too. The beverages are great, and there's lots of "to-go." The staff is cheerful and helpful. Service is quick. read more

I stopped by here for lunch when I had jury duty. I ordered the William Tell sandwich with their salad and was pleasantly surprised. I never would have thought turkey, green chilies, and Granny Smith apples went so well together, but they did. I have to say it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I love Ike's downtown and visit it everyday even though there are several other options within a couple of blocks. The staff is so very nice and take pride in remembering every body's orders. The space is tiny, but clean and they are super efficient and fast. read more

This place is truly unsanitary I don't know how they pass their health inspections. The employees don't wipe down the counters or equipment with sanitizer, they literally pour hot tap water on a rag and wipe things down with it. I've seen them transport food safe items like sodas chips canned and frozen goods in the SAME bin they just used to take the trash out in, I've noticed them just leave pitchers of steamed milk out on the counter for 15 minutes before dumping it out and not even rinsing it before reusing it. The worst of all is the owner Jackie. She is rude, disingenuous and ignorant. It's not he employees fault that their owner forces them to cut corners so she can save a couple bucks. read more

The Ike's blend is always pleasing and a caffe Americano is always a great pick me up. I'm really impressed with the sandwiches at lunchtime. Each time I have had a sandwich there it has been absolutely perfect. The bread is perfect, the meats make me curious as to how they found such quality product, and the compositions are impressive. I eat out downtown at least 100 times a year and can't say I like any other's sandwiches more. I also love the panninis at Cafe Milano and the Cuban at Cafe a la C'Art, but not really more than the lineup at Ike's. It's weird, this place is probably a better sandwich shop than a coffee joint. The location is convenient if you're downtown and the place is great for meeting contacts. The service at the counter is usually super prompt and even good sometimes, but 9 times out of ten I don't feel the slightest desire to drop a tip (not even the residual coinage) in the cup when picking up a drink and I almost always leave 20% rounded up to the dollar for a meal with service and ten to fifteen for any counter service, even 50% for a coffee. It's not your typical coffee house experience. I guess, I would not use the term 'house" when describing it, due to the lack of warmth or comfort. It's more like a coffee office. I think I, like others, picked up on the lack of enthusiasm for any customer appreciation. I mean they don't usually even say anything to you. No greeting, they just wait for you to order, wait for you to read the total on the register, and dismiss you until your drink name, not your given name, is called. Maybe they are just a serious bunch committed to quality coffee and mad sandwiches, but they need to lighten up or at least add an extrovert to each shift. I give the place high ratings for food and drinks. Service has never been rude and is usually fast, but do they care if I live or die? I don't think so. I get the feeling that their impressive efforts are not designed to please the customers, but part of their need for self-gratification. One of those places you forget to review because it is such a staple in my life. A great place to grab a quick coffee before work. They have good basic coffee as well as specialty drinks. The food is good and at a nice price. The chocolate croissant is especially amazing if you ask them to heat it up. This spot is generally downtown workers grabbing their caffeine fix. Friendly staff! They're really nice and great and it's clear that they enjoy working together. Delicious food. I had the William tell sandwich. Very good, unique flavor. A lot of their sandwiches on the menu seems to be really cool blends of flavor. The side salad that came with my sandwich also had really great flavor. I think it was an apple vinaigrette dressing. Food is great ( a little pricey but it IS downtown ) Service is HORRIBLE. That is why only 1 star. I have had people give me attitude when taking my order, when handing me my food/coffee and when also taking my money. This is not just 1 person either. I have experienced it with 3 different women working there. Just this morning I was in with my fiancee before work. We ordered 2 things to eat at we were getting ready to tell the woman behind the counter what we wanted for coffee when she typed it up on the register, hit toal and said "That'll be 5.xx" My fiancee and I just kind of looked at each other and said "OK, I guess we'll get coffee at work". The ONLY good service I have gotten is from a tall guy who I think is the owner (which might explain why he gives good service) but usually he is running around doing the footwork and making stuff while the other people are dealing with the customers. If the owner would make sure he gets good people in to deal with the customers it would be a wonderful place. read more

Not long ago I popped into Ike's for a coffee like I often do when I have to be in the court and need a pick up or a quick snack. It is indeed a nice clean looking place. No problems in the past. Yymmy pastries. Great salads and sandwiches. However, I just have one teensy complaint. On this particular visit the clerk was another of those recently ubiquitous hipster young men. He was attired in a tam and a breezy tank . Now I have nothing against hipsters and their beards and skinny jeans and ankle boots or their sundry sartorial selections. I do, however, have a problem when said hipster has a bloody raging bush of arm pit hair poking out all up and through said sleeveless tank! I couldn't! I can't. I just can't. Now somebody get that boy a hairnet or a proper shirt! So my two stars is for the hair, but normally they'd have gotten a 3 or a 4 for food and service! read more

I ate at Ike's today for the first time ever! I've been getting coffee there for a while but finally had the chance to eat a quick lunch and man-o-man was it yummy!!! So totally different than any sandwich I've ever eaten and I cannot wait to go back again and get another one. I cannot remember the name of the yummy, yet odd concoction but some of the ingredients included were green apples, avocado, green chile and a couple of different cheeses on wheat bread and panini pressed. The different flavors of each ingredient just meshed so well! I would NEVER have though to put green chile with an apple! I used to love going go Ike's a few years ago when customer service was good. The coffee I'd great, but the people behind the counter aren't very nice. They treat each customer differently depending on how they look, and mostly especially if you dont fill the tip jar. It's not a restaurant. It's a coffee shop. I'm a fan. I really love to get myself a nice iced coffee or vanilla bean frap. I've also gone there for lunch, I got the Gobbler. It's really good. It's thanksgiving between two slices of delicious bread that comes with a great salad. I wouldn't mind the prices being less expensive, but it's well worth it. I don't understand why this place rates as low as it does. It certainly isn't the best coffee I've ever had, but compared to the other competing local coffee shps, Ike's stands out . For instance, coffee exchange is a great place to study, but their coffee sucks. Shot in the dark is garbage, I have a love hate relationship with epic, cartel's coffee is awesome but pretty pricey, and the hipster feel can be a bit much. I find myself pleased at this Ike's location and the the speedway location. I'm happy to support this local business and I'll keep coming back because the coffee is good and the vibe is cool enough to sit back, study, and enjoy the given playlist at that moment. read more
