I haven't gone to a knife sharpener for a while, and not to Ike since 2020! I came back to him for 6 of my knives, including one that was heavily nicked and a little rusty on the edge. He was able to fix it up and restore the edge! I specifically chose Ike initially because I wanted to someone who would sharpen my knives by hand(ish). He uses stone wheels, and that makes it much much faster than a whetstone. For people who provide sharpening services, I feel like I see the wheels or belts most often. After a little bit on the wheel, he finishes with a leather strop! My knives came out super sharp, and he sent me on my way pretty quickly! I don't remember just how long, but it couldn't have been longer than 30-40 minutes! Pricing is super fair as well! He charged a different fee for the edge restoration, which was also more than fair. I brought in some older kitchen knives that were so dull they were basically paperweights. Within minutes, Ike had them sharper than sharp, and we had a great conversation while he worked. A couple of weeks ago I was looking to have my knives sharpened. I had used one of the mail-in services in the past and also a free service from a local kitchen ware store. The mail-in service takes a couple of weeks and the free local service is what you would expect for free. I needed something sooner and with better results. I contacted Ike and he was able to get me in very quickly. I went to him and because I only had a handful of knives to sharpen, I was able to wait as he worked on them and took them home in less than an hour. Ike was very friendly and efficient. Ike seems like a good guy and for highend kitchen knives he is probably really good. However... never, never, never ask him to do Spyderco serrated folders. I brought him two Spyderco Civilians and a Salt N1. He took them promptly and finished them in a day. But they were essentially ruined: for reasons I cannot fathom Ike flat ground the Spyderedge serrations. Went from expensive EDC PDW to unusable. I had to send them in to Spyderco to see if they could be saved, but so much damage had been done, even the factory sharpening team had to take off a ton more metal to try to put an true edge back on them. Never again. My bad for not going with a serrated specialist/pro, but I would have preferred Ike declined the job instead of ruining my EDC's. Addendum: Because I live and work twenty+ miles away, I had my housemate drop the knives off. This was, per my partner's Yelp check in, seven months ago. I use Yelp a lot to find places. I don't write a lot of reviews unless a place is exceptional, for better or worse. I originally chose Ike because I didn't want to be without my EDC PDW's for more than a day. Ike runs a cash only business, which I don't have a problem with, but which leaves documentation a little sparse. I am happy to verify that I was a customer, that my Spyderco's were worked on by him, and that ultimately I had to send them in to the factory in Golden Co. read more
