No hate on Sugarfish but your money is so much better spent here. Our favorite sushi spot in Eagle Rock and Pasadena. It feels elevated but not too much, and (it seems) it's family-run, but such good and high-quality fish. The fatty tuna is insane, so buttery and smooth and melt in your mouth and they serve it with fresh wasabi. But they're creative with their rolls too and their spicy tuna is a little different with perilla inside. Thank you Ikigai! We love you!

Great location in the heart of Eagle Rock--not-so-great parking options, but that's a bit unavoidable in most LA places and especially this strip during busy evenings. The unagi was amazing, with some good tempura shrimp on the side. Rice was only alright. Very clean interior with quick staff service. We were able to walk in without a reservation.

My boyfriend and I celebrated a milestone anniversary here. We went in on a Saturday and there was surprisingly no line!! Bless! We sat at the sushi bar since we were doing omakase and it was an unforgettable experience. We got water with no ice and an extra pitcher to refill ourselves. They were on top of filling up the pitcher too! Something that I appreciated was getting a small bowl of pickled ginger after my boyfriend finished his. We didn't ask for it, it was just noticed and given. It was the sweetest gesture and made us feel so heard. After omakase, we wanted to order the snow crab nigiri and the chef overheard so he called our server over. SO attentive! We were talking to this other couple about the Uni they bought and my bf has never had Uni so they OFFERED theirs to him. We refused and the chef brought us both spoons to try it. Gosh! Talk about princess treatment! Omakase: Bluefin tuna fatty otoro - wasabi top Room temp fatty good way melty wasabi level good G9.3 L8.1 Salmon - big ass. Chunk refreshing melty good salmon flavor. Didn't taste too salmony G9.1 L8.4 Hamachi- can feel layers not fishy good texture can squish with just your tongue a little sour? G8.2 L8.6 Kampachi- mild fishy harder structure but smooth and melty. YUZU KOSHU YUM SPICY salty and citrus the fish is melty G8.6 L8.6 Scallop- fricken awesome. Buttery would prefer no yuzu though G9 L 9.5 Sea brim - feels cooked? Like steamed fish but half raw great flavor complex for raw fish i get some citrus? G9.6 L9 Golden eye snapper - crunchy slight seared flavor very fishy compared to rest G 8.7 L7.9 Black throat snapper- very SMOOOOOTH buttery yummy smooth G9.5 L9.8 Halibut - crunchy and chewy taste leaf kinda minty? The spicy daikon yuzu garnish is so yum G8.8 L 8.8 Barracuda - salt on top. Torched and cooked. Good torches flavor. The salt adds so much G9.3 L8.7 Negitoro hand roll- seaweed is toughhhh flavor of weed is great. It's strong in strength. Sweet. Fish is not very fishy but feels partially cooked. Less rice more fish!!!! Snow crab nigiri - butter flavor. Crab isn't too fishy and it is lots of crab butter flavor great little sweet denser crab G9.8 L9.9 Torched salmon belly - fatty so much it melts completely. Salty too. A truly worthy sushi spot in the Eagle Rock/Glendale area. The menu is solid, offering high-quality, fresh fish you can instantly taste with every bite. We've been here more times than we can count, and it never disappoints. The restaurant is always spotless and welcoming, though it can get busy on weekends and weekday evenings--which only shows how loved it is. It feels very much like a family-run restaurant, where every piece of sushi is made with care and precision. Their attention to detail is unmatched. The menu is simple, yet it has everything you could want when it comes to sushi. We also love their great selection of Japanese beers on tap--it really adds to the experience. I highly recommend sitting at the bar and trying the classic omakase (10 or 12 pieces)--each piece is perfection. The rainbow roll is also incredible, especially when paired with an Orion or Asahi. A special shoutout to Chris, the sushi chef, who always makes our visits so memorable. Even though he's constantly on the move, balancing the front and back of the house, he never fails to make every experience special.

I love me some sushi, and have been wanting to check this place off my list for a while now. I came here with my partner on a Friday around 7:30 pm. We had to wait about 15 mins to be seated. Upon entering the restaurant, I was confused where to check in as no one greeted when we walked through the front door, the register is located at the back of the restaurant so I wasn't sure if I was supposed to walk to the back to put myself on a list. Come to find, there was a list hidden off to the side when entering. Maybe establish a clearer way to check in or have employees acknowledge when customers are coming in and let them know they'll be right with them. Besides that little rant, I'd say that our server was really attentive and helpful. The restaurant itself is spacious and there is also seating at the counter. Their menu offers a lot of different appetizers, sushi, rolls. Omakase is also offered. I definitely appreciated the variety. What we ordered: Karrage Chicken (5/5) Super crispy, tender, and juicy chicken. The sauce that accompanied the chicken was really good. Highly recommend. Crunch Roll (5/5) Spicy Blossom (4/5) Overall the food felt very high quality, portion size is just enough, and price seem fair. Enjoy

We both got the Omakase 12 piece..they forgot one of our orders so the chef hurried to make the second plate but it came out quickly. We added on a bunch of other items and left super full!

Overall: tucked in an unassuming location in Eagle rock this spot scratches the itch at a fairly reasonable price. Food: the savory selections were very traditionally made. The Unagi rice bowl wasn't lathered with yaki sauce but allowed the fish tell the story. The miso black cod was melt in your mouth goodness with that rich umami miso flavor. The sushi/sashimi is the opposite of the flavor packed savoriness as it was incredibly light. Nothing stands out especially but overall solid. Ambience/Decor/Service: friendly rapid service and very clean modern decor. Definitely a good spot to hit if you're feeling sushi without feeling the $150 + that can come with it!

Recommended and definitely will come again. We arrived at 8pm last night, not too many ppl there. Most of the seats are sofas, looks great and comfortable. They are 3 waiters plus one Japanese woman such a boss and 2 Suchi Chef standing in Sushi bar. One of the waiter served us with Cantonese, felt so warm and very nice, politely, proactive. For food, we ordered Chief Sushi's, hot sake, California rolls, some signature rolls. Also ordered Tempura, sushi to go for my honey. Cost 50 per head

Hi do they serve cooked dishes like oyakodon, chawanmushi, sukiyaki/shabu, etc?

I didn't see those on the menu. I would suggest eating sushi and sashimi. They are good.

HAKATA SET (Your choice of: Tonkotsu or Miso Ramen, comes with Mini Spicy Tuna Don, Chicken Karaage 2 pcs, Tsukemono) This was one of the set items for the lunch special. Chose the miso ramen. The miso ramen had a very strong white miso flavor. Didn't hate it, as I do love miso, but it was a little too much miso for my liking. Typical curly ramen and it was cooked well. Loved the jammy egg too. It was a soy marinated egg. There were also three pieces of chashu too! It was good, but slightly overcooked. The portion of the ramen was medium sized and was surprised they didn't bring a smaller size since it was a set meal. But happy they were generous! Spicy tuna don was a small bowl, but they gave a good portion of spicy tuna, which was delicious. Chicken karaage were two pieces of chicken and it was just okay. No tsukemono was served with the meal. Overall the meal was satisfying. I think the price was fair for what was given. CUSTOMER SERVICE Good, friendly and attentive customer service. No complaints! AMBIANCE / TABLES + SEATS Very calm and relaxing ambiance. It was quiet and no music was playing, which I liked. The restaurant was super clean and I liked how the tables were set. Large tables in the back and small tables were closer to the front. Bar seats on the side. It was a medium-sized restaurant, but the layout made it feel larger. Clean bathroom too. I've been wanting to try Tendon Tempura Carlos Jr. for a while since their original location is in Torrance. I'm really glad they opened a Pasadena location because we're lucky to have one here in the 626 now. Parking was easy since there are spots right in front of the restaurant, but they are metered and cost $2 per hour. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the staff. Since the weather was nice, we decided to sit out on the patio, which was cool and comfortable. To start, we ordered the fried tempura mozzarella sticks ($5.99), onion kakiage ($2.99), and edamame corn kakiage ($5.99). Everything was delicious, but the mozzarella sticks were the clear favorite. They were fried perfectly with an amazing cheese pull and plenty of cheesy flavor. We decided to share all of our entrees family style. For my son, we ordered the plain hot udon, which was simple and perfect for him. For the rest of us, we ordered the Premium Tempura Bowl ($32.97) and added ikura ($4.98), the cold soba with dipping sauce and tempura ($19.99), and Carlos's Jewel Box ($31.99), which came with chopped salmon, toro, yellowtail, and popcorn shrimp over rice. We also added extra toro for $8. On top of that, we ordered a side of five slices of chu-toro for $15.49, which honestly felt like a great deal. The Premium Tempura Bowl was definitely the star of the meal. Every piece of tempura was light, crispy, and fried perfectly without feeling greasy. The fried tempura egg was absolutely chef's kiss, especially once the yolk mixed into the rice. The tempura dipping sauce was also excellent and brought everything together. The Carlos's Jewel Box was another standout. The fish tasted fresh, and the rice with their house sauce paired perfectly with everything. The added toro made it even better. The cold soba was well prepared, but it just wasn't our cup of tea. That's more of a personal preference than anything because the quality was still there. The restaurant has a modern look while still feeling like a cozy mom-and-pop shop. I really liked the decor and the welcoming atmosphere. Since we were the only table sitting outside, I can't really comment on the noise level inside, but the patio was peaceful and relaxing. The service was great. The staff brought out a booster seat for my son and even helped secure it to the patio chair. They also brought us all the condiments, including ginger and pickled vegetables, without us having to ask, which I appreciated. Overall, I would definitely come back. The tempura was some of the best I've had in the 626, and the rice bowls were just as impressive. If you're visiting for the first time, I highly recommend ordering one of the tempura bowls. You really can't go wrong. It's great to see a restaurant that started in Torrance expand to Pasadena because it's a welcome addition to the 626 dining scene.

There was also no crunch to it. I remember the Torrance location tempura had a very nice crunch, batter was light and airy, and it stuck to the food. The sauce is the same, as they put it in the rice instead of you dipping it into a sauce. I also got cold soba on the side since they can't substitute the rice for soba. Soba wasn't anything special. The noodles at the Torrance location is better I promise! The miso soup was okay, didn't really enjoy it that much. It's not your typical miso soup. It has mushrooms in it. The mushroom flavor was too strong for me. Service was meh since we sat down first, but they took the order from our neighbors before us. Their food came out first too. Most likely won't come back to this location again. Not sure if they just had an off day when I went, but I had a disappointing experience.

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the very friendly staff, who took us to a table. The restaurant is so clean and bright with gorgeous decor and the comfiest seating. The service was so prompt and our server was fantastic at answering any questions we had. I inquired about the vegan options, as the menu didn't specify which items were. The waiter was so knowledgeable and vividly described all of the options to me, saying which ones did not have any fish sauce or egg. I ended up ordering the Green Goddess sushi roll and the Agedashi Tofu. The tofu was brought out first and it was so delectable. It was coated in a lovely batter and fried and the sauce was just the right amount of tangy with the slightest sweetness. The Green Goddess sushi was equally amazing and beautifully presented on a leaf. It was true to its name and was very green with some lovely avocado, cucumber and asparagus. It was even topped with jalapeño to give it some added spice and add even more crispiness to it! The servers were on it, bringing us more ginger and wasabi as needed and consistently checking on us to ensure we were satisfied with our meals. My friend really enjoyed his fish sushi as well. We both left very satisfied and energized. I would definitely return again for more delicious veggie sushi and to try more of their vegan appetizers!

They eventually pulled the window awnings down but the seats by the door entrance were fully covered in sun and we noticed that the customers mid way asked to be moved because the sun was directly on them and their sushi ... yikes . Not sure why the tinting was so thin ..... Nonetheless, the service was amazing !!!! Our servers were super attentive and knew almost everything in the menu, my first time dinning here so I went off recommendations and they didn't disappoint. We also ordered the garlic edamame and Shishido peppers and they were equally good. I'm a fan of can soda at restaurants but would have been better if they had Coke Zero and not just Diet Coke . There is permit parking in the back of the building but no direct access to the building other than going around the block . Overall good experience, would probably dine here in the evening to skip the sun and sushi basking in it.
