Great location in the heart of Eagle Rock--not-so-great parking options, but that's a bit unavoidable in most LA places and especially this strip during busy evenings. The unagi was amazing, with some good tempura shrimp on the side. Rice was only alright. Very clean interior with quick staff service. We were able to walk in without a reservation.

My boyfriend and I celebrated a milestone anniversary here. We went in on a Saturday and there was surprisingly no line!! Bless! We sat at the sushi bar since we were doing omakase and it was an unforgettable experience. We got water with no ice and an extra pitcher to refill ourselves. They were on top of filling up the pitcher too! Something that I appreciated was getting a small bowl of pickled ginger after my boyfriend finished his. We didn't ask for it, it was just noticed and given. It was the sweetest gesture and made us feel so heard. After omakase, we wanted to order the snow crab nigiri and the chef overheard so he called our server over. SO attentive! We were talking to this other couple about the Uni they bought and my bf has never had Uni so they OFFERED theirs to him. We refused and the chef brought us both spoons to try it. Gosh! Talk about princess treatment! Omakase: Bluefin tuna fatty otoro - wasabi top Room temp fatty good way melty wasabi level good G9.3 L8.1 Salmon - big ass. Chunk refreshing melty good salmon flavor. Didn't taste too salmony G9.1 L8.4 Hamachi- can feel layers not fishy good texture can squish with just your tongue a little sour? G8.2 L8.6 Kampachi- mild fishy harder structure but smooth and melty. YUZU KOSHU YUM SPICY salty and citrus the fish is melty G8.6 L8.6 Scallop- fricken awesome. Buttery would prefer no yuzu though G9 L 9.5 Sea brim - feels cooked? Like steamed fish but half raw great flavor complex for raw fish i get some citrus? G9.6 L9 Golden eye snapper - crunchy slight seared flavor very fishy compared to rest G 8.7 L7.9 Black throat snapper- very SMOOOOOTH buttery yummy smooth G9.5 L9.8 Halibut - crunchy and chewy taste leaf kinda minty? The spicy daikon yuzu garnish is so yum G8.8 L 8.8 Barracuda - salt on top. Torched and cooked. Good torches flavor. The salt adds so much G9.3 L8.7 Negitoro hand roll- seaweed is toughhhh flavor of weed is great. It's strong in strength. Sweet. Fish is not very fishy but feels partially cooked. Less rice more fish!!!! Snow crab nigiri - butter flavor. Crab isn't too fishy and it is lots of crab butter flavor great little sweet denser crab G9.8 L9.9 Torched salmon belly - fatty so much it melts completely. Salty too. A truly worthy sushi spot in the Eagle Rock/Glendale area. The menu is solid, offering high-quality, fresh fish you can instantly taste with every bite. We've been here more times than we can count, and it never disappoints. The restaurant is always spotless and welcoming, though it can get busy on weekends and weekday evenings--which only shows how loved it is. It feels very much like a family-run restaurant, where every piece of sushi is made with care and precision. Their attention to detail is unmatched. The menu is simple, yet it has everything you could want when it comes to sushi. We also love their great selection of Japanese beers on tap--it really adds to the experience. I highly recommend sitting at the bar and trying the classic omakase (10 or 12 pieces)--each piece is perfection. The rainbow roll is also incredible, especially when paired with an Orion or Asahi. A special shoutout to Chris, the sushi chef, who always makes our visits so memorable. Even though he's constantly on the move, balancing the front and back of the house, he never fails to make every experience special.

I love me some sushi, and have been wanting to check this place off my list for a while now. I came here with my partner on a Friday around 7:30 pm. We had to wait about 15 mins to be seated. Upon entering the restaurant, I was confused where to check in as no one greeted when we walked through the front door, the register is located at the back of the restaurant so I wasn't sure if I was supposed to walk to the back to put myself on a list. Come to find, there was a list hidden off to the side when entering. Maybe establish a clearer way to check in or have employees acknowledge when customers are coming in and let them know they'll be right with them. Besides that little rant, I'd say that our server was really attentive and helpful. The restaurant itself is spacious and there is also seating at the counter. Their menu offers a lot of different appetizers, sushi, rolls. Omakase is also offered. I definitely appreciated the variety. What we ordered: Karrage Chicken (5/5) Super crispy, tender, and juicy chicken. The sauce that accompanied the chicken was really good. Highly recommend. Crunch Roll (5/5) Spicy Blossom (4/5) Overall the food felt very high quality, portion size is just enough, and price seem fair. Enjoy

No hate on Sugarfish but your money is so much better spent here. Our favorite sushi spot in Eagle Rock and Pasadena. It feels elevated but not too much, and (it seems) it's family-run, but such good and high-quality fish. The fatty tuna is insane, so buttery and smooth and melt in your mouth and they serve it with fresh wasabi. But they're creative with their rolls too and their spicy tuna is a little different with perilla inside. Thank you Ikigai! We love you!

Great vibes . I recommend for dinner . The tempura udon is absolutely amazing , and the soft shell crabs . Tim was so nice, helpful and kind I will come back soon :)

Overall: tucked in an unassuming location in Eagle rock this spot scratches the itch at a fairly reasonable price. Food: the savory selections were very traditionally made. The Unagi rice bowl wasn't lathered with yaki sauce but allowed the fish tell the story. The miso black cod was melt in your mouth goodness with that rich umami miso flavor. The sushi/sashimi is the opposite of the flavor packed savoriness as it was incredibly light. Nothing stands out especially but overall solid. Ambience/Decor/Service: friendly rapid service and very clean modern decor. Definitely a good spot to hit if you're feeling sushi without feeling the $150 + that can come with it!

We both got the Omakase 12 piece..they forgot one of our orders so the chef hurried to make the second plate but it came out quickly. We added on a bunch of other items and left super full!

So happy to have another nice sushi option in the area! I've been living off of Ichijiku, which I love, but it's always nice to have a little variety and ikigai is here to offer it. Their Nigiri selection is large and excellent, while still being quality. And the Butter Saba is a definite must - it's the perfect balance of smoky and savory. The rolls are great and LARGE. The Yakimaki is so good (ask for light sauce), my expectations were low because I'm not usually a fan of a saucy roll, but the flavor was top notch. Service was fast and attentive - we had multiple servers coming to our table to check on us and they were more than happy to offer suggestions. And the restaurant is very clean with a lovely, neutral look reminiscent of Little Tokyo or Sawtelle sushi bars. A really great addition to the neighborhood!

Hi do they serve cooked dishes like oyakodon, chawanmushi, sukiyaki/shabu, etc?

I didn't see those on the menu. I would suggest eating sushi and sashimi. They are good.

Surprisingly, the food here actually surpassed my expectations. If you love Japanese food, you have to try the food here. Dishes were almost on par with fine dining, but at lower costs. My favorite items were the fish tempura, scallops, and uni with sweet potato. Everything was delicious, and reminded me of being in Japan. The only thing that was a little inconvenient was the parking. It's street parking, no parking lot or valet available. The restaurant is tiny so make sure you make reservations in advance, unless you come here outside of regular dining hours. I'm glad that my first time eating / trying uni was here; it was the highlight of the meal for me. The tuna and sourdough toast was limp / slight soggy and didn't have that satisfying crunch we hoped for. Handrolls were ok: between the tuna, sweet shrimp, and scallop, we liked the scallop most. The diced peach / summer veggie salad was nice but not too memorable. What I do remember is the chewiness of the fish cakes in the ramen: it lacked the QQ texture we're more familiar with; seemed a bit overworked / rubbery instead. The broth/ramen was a little too light in flavor for us, almost erring on the side of bland / subtle...

We actually stumbled upon this place by accident. We were heading to the Mexican restaurant nearby,…read moreonly to find out it was under construction. This place looked really popular, with a lot of people coming in and out, so we decided to give it a try. The girl seating people when we arrived wasn't particularly friendly, she seemed like she was just going through the motions. Inside looked really busy, so we decided to sit outside. Even with the crazy heat, there was plenty of shade where we were sitting, so it was actually bearable. There was a QR code near the entry way that I had scanned but the young lady ended up bringing us menus, which was helpful. I ordered the shrimp and vegetable tempura bowl with wheat noodles, but actually wanted the Undo noodles but I let it go. My mom ordered the all-vegetable tempura bowl. We also added a piece of chicken breast tempura to each of our meals for some extra protein. The tempura was different from what I'm used to. The batter was very light and flaky, but it was delicious! We both really enjoyed the vegetables. My favorites were definitely the zucchini and pumpkin. Overall, the service ended up being decent as well. Now here's the part I feel bad about mentioning. About 40-60 minutes after we left, my stomach started cramping really badly, and I ended up in the restroom. No need to go into details--it was horrible. I asked my mom how she was feeling, and she was completely fine. We pretty much ate the same meal, with the main difference being that I had the shrimp tempura and she didn't. So naturally, I wondered if maybe I had gotten a bad piece of shrimp. Of course, I can't say for certain that the shrimp was the cause. I'm not going to write this place off as a bad restaurant because of my experience. It could have simply been an unfortunate one-off situation. The place was clearly popular, and by the time we were getting ready to leave, there was actually a line of people waiting to eat. Overall, I think this is probably a good spot and we genuinely enjoyed the food while we were there. Unfortunately, after the way I felt later that day, I just don't know if I'll personally be coming back anytime soon.

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the very friendly staff, who took us to a table. The restaurant is so clean and bright with gorgeous decor and the comfiest seating. The service was so prompt and our server was fantastic at answering any questions we had. I inquired about the vegan options, as the menu didn't specify which items were. The waiter was so knowledgeable and vividly described all of the options to me, saying which ones did not have any fish sauce or egg. I ended up ordering the Green Goddess sushi roll and the Agedashi Tofu. The tofu was brought out first and it was so delectable. It was coated in a lovely batter and fried and the sauce was just the right amount of tangy with the slightest sweetness. The Green Goddess sushi was equally amazing and beautifully presented on a leaf. It was true to its name and was very green with some lovely avocado, cucumber and asparagus. It was even topped with jalapeño to give it some added spice and add even more crispiness to it! The servers were on it, bringing us more ginger and wasabi as needed and consistently checking on us to ensure we were satisfied with our meals. My friend really enjoyed his fish sushi as well. We both left very satisfied and energized. I would definitely return again for more delicious veggie sushi and to try more of their vegan appetizers!

Started out with the beef gyozo, scallop with uni and wagyu with uni. The gyozos were your basic gyozos, you know what you're going to get with them. The scallop with uni was decent, feel it lacked a missing flavor profile that was needed. The wagyu with uni, on the other hand, was really tasty. We also got the salmon collar, which was pretty big in size, and had a decent amount of meat on it. But it was your standard salmon. For rolls, we got the Mr. Crab and Miss. Crab. The Miss Crab has blue crab and avocado topped with seared scallop, masago, kewpie mayo, sesame seeds. It was decent but really felt like something was missing with it. The Mr. Crab has crab mix, shrimp tempura & baked freshwater lobster in soy paper topped with eel sauce. This was more flavorful and would be the one I recommend among the two. Overall, decent sushi spot that didn't necessarily stand out amongst the items we ordered. I would recommend the Mr. Crab and A5 wagyu with uni, but you can skip on the other items.
