My wife and I had our last dinner after spending 10 days touring Rome and Florence before going back home to the states. Service was great, food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Beware: Tourist Trap. Not only are the food and drink overpriced, the waiters are very rude. Make a simple request and they act like it's a huge burden. This is the only bad restaurant experience I've had in Rome, and there's so many restaurants, why would you spend money at an establishment that doesn't serve wine by the glass? read more

We visited the restaurant this evening, it was perfect to sit outside. My husband had the veal chop prixe fixed menu and I had the beef with lasagne Bolognese. Found this little place around the corner from our hotel in Rome. We got a table since it was early (6:30pm) for Rome restaurant patrons. We sat outside and started with a bread basket. There was a delicious freshly sliced bread along with packaged crackers. We selected from a large menu, including specials of the day. I selected the special which included a spaghetti carbonara, then on to a grilled veal steak and French fries. After this, a light refreshing fruit cup. We also had the penne al pomodoro, a delicious gnocchi dish, a beautiful cypress salad, and a lasagna special with a delicious veal steak in a light sauce. All in all, from beginning to end, this was a good experience and we would come back to try other dishes. read more

Anyway it's a restaurant around the station. Maybe not as good as those in city center or somewhere near residences. This is the first time to try steak in Italy not sure if it's good or not but quite sure it's worse than some usual American steakhouse with less juicy and taste. Il Gallo Nero -- The Black Rooster. Good Italian food, moderately priced, from a wait staff that was harried and not very attentive. Compared to Amadeo Ristorante across the street, Gallo Nero has a more extensive menu but the waitstaff is less helpful. We had pasta with wild boar and ravioli with truffles. The service here is deplorable. Because we are American and have two kids age 10 and 8, we were treated like crap. First, everyone else was given bread service without asking. I had to ask. Strike 1. Secondly, we poured balsamic vinegar and olive oil for our bread because the kids like to dip their bread in it. The waiter/manager came over and scolded me for doing that, shouting "that is for the salad, not the bread." To which I said, I understand, but my kids like to dip their bread in it. He rudely responded "you may do that in the US, but here it is only for salad." Strike 2. Midway through our meal, the flag pole affixed to the building fell off and hit me on the head. Other patrons saw it. I alerted the manager. He again was rude with this response: "that is not our problem. It was attached to the hotel, it's their problem." Um, ok, but I'm your patron and it hit me on your premises.... no sorry, no "are you ok." Nada. Strike 3. Finally, the bread I requested, he charged me 3 euro for. I'm guessing no one else got charged a bread service fee, he didn't like us. All in all, never ever again. The food was marginal- a 4 out of 10, and well the service was the worst. So on our way back to our hotel we looked up some food nearby. We found this gem. The prices were really reasonable!! We must've gotten there just in time seeing as how crowded it became soon after. The menu had English translations and the waiter spoke English. The food was delicious!! I ordered the gnocchi al ragu and my boyfriend ordered the fettuccini bolognese, both were divine!! The only "issue" was although seated inside they had no closed windows or doors so we were in an epic battle with a fly who was also apparently a fan of the food there. read more

This trattoria is amazing! The service was impeccable! We stopped for lunch after arriving in Rome from Florence and it was a great selection! Our waiter was courteous, selected an amazing wine to accompany our meal and the food was to die for! One if the best meals in Italy. After prosciutto and melon, I ordered a lunch special, Roman: spaghetti, escalope, artichoke and fruit salad; all for 15 euro! Cricket order risotto and wild boar! What a wonderful little ristorante! The food is delicious, very well-prepared, right down to the desserts, the selection of wine was great, each staff member had a great sense of humor. Husband and I have stayed in the Giglio dell' Opera right smack across the street for several years. It took our cousins to suggest trying the place. Best suggestion ever and I cannot wait to go back in May.
