My chateaubriand I couldn't chew, so hard and the presentation so poor I couldn't believe they charge for that as one of the highest priced items. After several bouts of frustration at trying to find restaurants on foot via Maps...and feeling a bit doubtful about the Yelp list in front of me, I asked the shopkeeper at Ginocchi Pelletteria for a dinner recommendation. He said this is where his family goes for birthdays and other occasions. "Special," he said, "but not too, too expensive." I also didn't want a touristy place--and this area is packed with touristy places. But this really isn't one. The restaurant was full of Italians speaking Italian, so I must disagree with the descriptions of some other reviewers. I'm Italian, so I can detect noncarbonara carbonara from miles away. Not an issue here. It was ItaliCorrect. The service is impeccable: Professional waiters who clearly know what they're doing and like it, who can recommend dishes and explain the menu, who serve with confidence and a little click of joy in their heels. They were awesome. I'm traveling for work and the rest of my team has left, so I was on my own for dinner--which can be awkward. But these guys made me feel welcome and comfortable. And the food. Was. Great. They didn't have my first selection, a special, in full, so I chose from their regular menu. I wasn't disappointed. A Sardinian pasta dish close to carbonara but cooked with guanciale instead of bacon and with mirt (myrtle) for flavor and aroma. I also had a Roman artichoke, braised with mint. It was tender and tasty and perfect. And the waiter recommended the house ricotta cake for dessert so I tried it. For being our first foodie adventure in Rome, we don't think this was bad at all. It certainly exceeded our experience with the cruise tours we left behind the same day. It wasn't that far of a walk from the hotel area we left. We did find out that even though there's a published time for opening, that isn't actually the case. LOL. We had gotten there at 11am for lunch. No worries though 'cause the staff was nice from the beginning. They seated us right away, gave us bread to snack on, followed by omelet cubes and our drinks. Okay... I know, I know... We should be respectable to at least attempt learning the language, and we did try. Miserable results, so our waiter was friendly enough to discern what we wanted, mixed with broken languages. Sweet guy. Also have to contribute how hospitable he was considering we were one of three groups there by the time we left our meal around 1pm. Know what also helped? Having menu descriptions in English. Sad to admit, and I would've had to Google translate if there was nothing. Other than finding the packaged crackers humorous, everything we ordered tasted great. Creamy, flavorful sauce for my husband's white lasagna. Loved my lamb stew with artichokes - that thing just came off the bone with a slight fork stroke. Interesting beer options considering that it's Italy. While I appreciated my Birra Buffa, I'll never order beer in Italy again. LOL. No complaints for a nicely cooked meal and friendly reps to put a smile on our faces. read more

I cannot believe this place doesn't have 5 stars. My husband and I have been eating our way through Italy and although the food has been great, we hadn't experienced some exceptional. That is, until we ate here. We will be returning! Everything was complete perfection and the service was fantastic. We are so lucky we found this place. Recommended by our hotel staff. We called for a table around 8pm and got a reservation for 9:30. Our waiter was an energetic older gentleman with a great sense of humor. We shared carbonara which was the best I've had! For secondi I had veal scallopini in a lemon sauce. It was excellent. My wife had roast pork. That was amazing with such crispy skin! The roasted potatoes were flavorful and crisp on the outside done perfectly inside. The house wine was very good and the espresso after dinner was great as well. We had 2 glasses of some each and the total bill was under 60 euro. Definitely recommend! read more

A gastronomical debacle, say that four times and then run from here. On our first night in Rome, we sought a favorite restaurant from a previous visit for it's infamous creamy, and delicious pasta carbonara. This was not that restaurant, despite the accolade glued to the front door. Speaking of glue, the cabonara sauce was more of a paste than glue, a thick lumpy paste with huge chunks of poorly rendered bacon (pancetta). A clown car of noisy American tourists had filled this place. In the middle of the meal, they tromped down the stairs cackling and carrying on in an ostentatious parade. A few drunken ones had trouble finding their way out, instead remained chattering in the small front room about the phallic pictures on the wall. The raw bacon, heavy cream and lumps of egg did not set well with my partner. He spent the night expelling the vile mixture from his bowels. Come here if you're with a group of tourists that like to drink otherwise run, or get the runs. read more

My wife and I ordered the Mixed Seafood Appetizer, and it was easily enough to feed two. In fact, it could act as one person's dinner without question. The house wines, both red and white, were great and went well with our dinners. The waiter opened them with a bit of showmanship, which is always appreciated. We each got the fettuccine--one with artichokes & one with tomato & sea bass--and both were excellent, cooked perfectly & with the spices nicely balanced. For dessert we shared a tiramisu. Every restaurant in Italy seems to make a unique tiramisu (and all of them are delicious) & this one was excellent. The service was fantastic, the ambience was pleasant, and the food was delicious. Great restaurant near our hotel. The place was recommended by the hotel bartender and didn't disappoint. Osso Bucco was tender and nearly fell off the bone. Linguini was fresh and delicious. Veal also was tasty. Antipasto -- a nice selection of salamis and cheeses. Cheeses included mozzarella, ricotta, and pecorino. I would recommend this restaurant highly. One caveat: Our service was very slow. We arrived just after 20:00 and didn't leave till almost 23:30. Such may be the life in Italy, but other tables seemed to come and go. Perhaps it appeared we were enjoying the meal (and wine) too much to be bothered! One last point. Our table of four thought it not only delicious, but also reasonable. read more

The food deserves 4 stars. The service deserves 2 stars. The service started out great but then a tour party of 34 people came in. While the wait staff was running around serving this party their prix fix family-style meal, our service went into the toilet. Waited 10 minutes for desert menus. Then another 10 minutes for them to take our order. By then, we just asked for the check which took another 10-15 minutes to arrive and another 5-10 to pay. To their credit, the staff was profusely apologetic about the wait. I would totally recommend this restaurant if there is not a large tour group dining at the same time. read more

This place is such an amazing little gem. My wife and I went here to check it out because it was close to our hotel and it was actually open on Sunday, not to mention all the great reviews we saw online. I have to say we walked away feeling like we just won the lottery. The service was one of the best we had in all of Italy and the FOOD, oh man, we thought we went to heaven. We basically stuck to the daily specials because after we saw the first page we were done. We had a goat cheese, prosciutto, and roasted date bruschetta that was freaking amazing for our starter. My wife had a pesto gnocchi as her first and I had the seafood risotto that was so savory and delicious I couldn't stop eating it until the plate was clean. We ended with the oxtail that I honestly think has changed my life. I couldn't even keep my wife away from it it was that good and she usually doesn't get adventurous enough to eat something like oxtail. It was so buttery and delicious I have to say if it is on the menu you have to try it. If we had more than 2 days in Rome we would have definitely eaten here again and we definitely will in the future. read more

My husband and I tried this place last night and were very impressed! The service was spectacular, we didn't have a reservation(it's recommended) but they sat us right away. The house wine was amazing, we had ordered the seafood platter appetizer but it got lost in translation and they brought us a plate of cheeses, salamis and grilled vegetables. We ate it anyways and it was delicious! For dinner I had the gnocchetti and my husband had the spaghetti carbonara. Both were excellent! We plan to come back again soon :) read more

This was the worse restaurant we've been to in rome. I was very excited about the reviews but boy was it all wrong. First of all a mixed salad should not be tomato And ice berg lettuce... That's what they serve at Denny's. Shame on you! And my pasta with clams was better when j buy a package from trader joe and cook it myself. I don't know how this place stayed open. It's horrible everything is too salty and nothing was handmade like other restaurants . Seriously, Olive Garden is Better than this Place. Recommend by our Hotel Antica Roma around the corner. Easy to find as it is located on a street with no other restaurants between the Trevi and Spanish steps. The restaurant had a mixture of tourists as well as locals. The waiters were fast, efficient and very personable. We had the antipasto with a mixture of cheese and salami with grilled vegetables to start our meals and fettuccine ragu and spaghetti mirt with pig cheeks and black pepper. The meal was tasty, delicious and portion sizes were perfect. Would happily return on the next trip to Rome. read more

I'm left scratching my head at the positive reviews. This place was tourist hell. If your idea of authentic is some cheesy guitar player singing "Volare" and other faux Italian hits then this is your place. If you traveled to Rome to sit in an over lit room with a bunch of other tourists, predominantly American, then, again, this is your place.
