This place is amazing!! I was married in Florence in September and spent almost three weeks in Italy. This is tied for my favorite meal I had in Italy. I had my groom's dinner here the night before the wedding and we had a party of a little under twenty. Make Reservations!! We did but a mob of people starts congregating around the door twenty minutes before opening so make sure to call ahead. We were seated in the large outdoor corridor, which was beautiful. First of all the service was great, which can be hard to come by as Americans in Florence. We did the family style option were they bring out a smorgasbord of food and unlimited house wine. So much food...antipasto, pasta, gnocchi, farro salad with the climax being their specialty...meat. Bistecca alla Fiorentina, rabbit, veal, chicken, lamb and it all was excellent. The best was the steak not surprisingly. I am rambling but I cannot say enough good things about this place. Just thinking about it brings back so many fond memories of our trip to Italy. We were greeted with wine as we waited for our table outside! The owner made us feel like we were family at this wonderful steak house. The service was one of the best we had encountered in Florence. I highly recommend the Bistecca Florentine which they will prepare rare to medium rare! Also the Tiramisu is outstanding and end your meal with a little Limoncello. It will change your life!! We had the same waiter all the time so he knew what we ordered. Because we didn't reserve so we were taken in after the people who did reserve. You must read this review before eating at Il Latini. We ate here last night and was very disappointed for two main reasons. 1st, it was very expensive for the quality of food you get at $45/person (child is $30). If you are a "quantity" individual, this is your place. we opted for the family style "preplanned" dinner which they sell to everyone coming in. The meal includes appetizers, primi, secondi, all you can drink wine, dessert and dessert wine. It's absolutely not possible to consume all of it. My second reasoning for rating a 2 star: Their food is standard. Nothing to rave about. With that being said, the service is great, and it should be if every head coming in is a guarantee $45 sale. read more

I came here at per the recommendation of a friend who ate here years ago. The food was delicious (probably the best we'd had so far), but I wish I knew going into it that the style is different than it used to be--no more set menu where the staff will bring out whatever they want and just write out the bill (which I realize in writing sounds like a bad thing, but it was supposedly all AMAZING since it's was what was recommended), and you're seated with just your party, although the tables are very close together. Amazing! Went to dinner with a new friend, that was visiting town. First things first, make a reservation. Secondly, they do seat you communally, so if you are a table of 2, expect to sit next to strangers. Luckily my dinner guest enjoyed the communal style. The food was AMAZING! This place was amazing. Luckily, my party of 9 made a reservation earlier in the day. This restaurant was around the corner from the apartment we were renting and stayed busy every night that we walked past. It is definitely a true, and delicious, Florentine restaurant. Since we like to eat family style, we basically ordered the entire menu, no shame. Caprese salad: (4/5) Nothing too special, but really good and VERY fresh. Gnocchi with rabbit sauce: (5/5) This one was passed around the table the most. Homemade gnocchi, which I am a total sucker for, in a beautiful rabbit sauce. Not too heavy and perfectly seasoned. The size of the gnocchi are smaller that what you would see in the states and less potato-y. Chicken liver crostini: (5/5) We should have ordered a few more. Not heavy or too salted, and the bread didn't cut up my mouth. Don't you hate when that happens?!? Florentine steak: (5/5) My favorite steak in Florence. It's flavorful without being too seasoned. Paired perfectly with the house wine. Roasted rabbit: (2/5) This wasn't our favorite. It felt a bit overdone and dry which made it tough and salty. If you want rabbit, go for the gnocchi instead. Roasted lamb: (4/5) Not too gamey and seasoned well. In true Florentine dinner, it is literally a piece of meat on a plate. No garnish, no side. Not the most Instagrammable dish but delicious. Mixed vegetable soup: (3/5) It had bread in it making it more like a bread stew. Good, but not memorable and will really fill you up and taking precious stomach space away from the gnocchi. Penne with meat sauce: (4/5) Good. Classic. Really hard to mess that up. IMHO, there are much better things to get on the menu. Prosciutto: (5/5) They cure it in house, above your head of 18 months. A must try. House red wine: (5/5) For house wine, it was awesome. Fruity, not too dry, with a clean finish. It's a table wine, so as long as it doesn't taste like crap, I'm content. Cantucci and Vin Santo: This was a perfect aperitif to our meal. Cantucci is like an almond biscotti and Vin Santo is the italian version of port. *there were also these tasty fried balls. I can't remember what they were called but I highly recommend seeking them out. It was a perfect place for my friends and I to celebrate our last night together in Florence. The servers were friendly without being intrusive and service was very quick for such a busy restaurant. The food was so delicious! My friends got a pasta sampler plate, and I got the minestrone soup and we were all blown away! The rabbit gnocchi that was a part of thr sampler was the best pasta I've eaten in Florence. So flavorful, and even my friend that typically hates gnocchi was in love. The only down side was that it was very busy and it took forever for the waiter to take our order, and the menu was in Italian only. Always a memorable evening here. They have expanded greatly to accommodate the hordes who have it in their Florence bucket list. Dinner is best enjoyed with a group to share the ample portions, and can be well enjoyed at one of the communal tables inside where you'll feast with other travelers. A friend suggested this place and said they went there while on their honeymoon and had the best meal of the trip, so we decided to try it out one of our nights in Florence. SEVERELY disappointed. This was the worst meal we have had in both Florence and Rome. We had caprese salad, which was okay. The mozzarella was good but the wilted lettuce was sad. We then had the selection of 3 pastas to share. We ordered the penne with meat sauce, ravioli with spinach and ricotta and the daily special of gnocchi with vegetables. The pasta was not fresh at all, the meat sauce had no flavor, the ravioli could have been lean cuisine and the gnocchi looked and tasted like it was made with canned vegetables. Clearly a restaurant catering to the tourist crowd. We had a great waiter and the house wine was pretty decent, but we could barely stomach the pasta and asked for the check almost immediately. We have had so many amazing food experiences in both Rome and Florence by just stumbling into small local trattorias. Do not go the tourist route and do not waste your time at Il Latini. read more

When we were in Florence, Il Latini was recommended as the iconic restaurant doe steak florentine. This style while charred on the outside is very rare. The steak is dry aged so it is not bloody. It and the entire meal was delicious. Service was attentive and the restaurant was spacious with great atmosphere. read more

When I first went to Italy 7 years ago, Il Latini was hands down the best meal that I had. Having come back this month, it is still a great find, but not the finest food I had in Florence. The menu will be limited because they cook an abbreviated menu every night for efficiency, but everything was well executed from the prosciutto and melon to the chicken liver bruscetta and rabbit gnocchi. The atmosphere is great, and if you show up with fewer than 4 people, you will likely be sitting with several strangers family-style. Be prepared for a full meal, but I don't think it even came to 40 euros for 5 courses and a ton of wine. Best meal we've had in Italy. We put ourselves in the chefs hands and weren't disappointed. Wine was delicious (we bought a couple bottles to take home with us) and the food was amazing. We showed up on a whim at 2130 on a Friday night without a reservation and the staff still found a way to seat is in less than 10 minutes. The place was packed and the staff were working their butts off keeping up with demand. Our waiter, Stefano, was very accommodating with my poor Italian and bridged the gap with his English. Everything was delicious but don't leave without trying the Florentine steak. Dessert and an after dinner moscato was on the house and the whole meal with 3 appetizers, a prima, secondi, two bottles of water and three bottles of wine was still only 120 euro. read more

Il Latini, Il Latini--oh the millions of glorious things I could say about this place. Not only is the food some of the most delicious in all of Italy, the staff is some of the friendliest. My fiancée and I made a reservation here for our second night in Florence- and loved it so much we decided we were going to try and come back our last night. Of course it was booked- how could it not be?! We had a 9:30pm train to catch and the restaurant didn't open until 7:30. We decided to stick it out and see if we could get a last minute table even though there were 2 parties in front of us. The manager Christian was incredibly attentive, taking our order early and insuring that he would get us out in time for our train (even though we told him we completely understood if they were full). One of the staff members Jimmy kept pouring glass after glass of free wine and cheese while we waited, and definitely kept the moral of hungry hopefuls high during the long wait. We really can't thank those two enough for making the environment so warm and friendly. Finally, Christian swooped us a table at 8:30 and our food was in front of us at his direction- by 8:40. (Appetizers, wine, entree and all). He was amazing. The food was impeccable. Both times we went we met great friends who we can't wait to keep in touch with. I truly cannot rave enough about this place!!! The best part- we were at the train station 10 minutes early with a shot of limoncello and bottle of wine complimentary of dear Il Latini in hand. Truly this place will make your Italian experience remarkable! (We tried the house wine, limoncello, bolognese, tomato soup, sirloin, chicken, and deer stew and not a single complaint. The best meal in Italy for our 8 day trip! Our party of 4 opted for the 55 euro per person family style meal. Wow! The food kept coming and everything was delicious. We started out with an assortment of ham and salami and appetizers. Then had three amazing pastas, including one with rabbit. Next was the entree courses- a huge platter with roasted veal, chicken and pork plus a huge bisteca Florentine. The waiter even supplemented the meal with an extra appetizer of fried zucchini flowers. Dessert was a sampling of 4 desserts, followed by a shot of limoncello. This family style restaurant was packed on a late Sunday early evening. Reservations are suggested but we managed to get in last minute. We enjoyed caprese salad, baked chicken and filet mignon. If you're squeamish about medium RARE meat, emphasis rare, order it anyway because it's the way to go. The house bottled wine will be waiting for you at the time. It's a good value at 12 euro. Biscotti dipped in sweet wine capped off a lovely evening. Service was very pleasant and the staff speaks English well enough to help you understand the menu. It's located just two bridges away from the Ponte Vechio bridge and all the easy to find places that don't have the same ambiance. read more

Just the best meal we had in Italy and we had great meals through out. I don't understand down rating the restaurant because the tourist mob the door. Some of the dinners are idiots and some are quite delightful. While wait outside for our seating we meet a couple from China and decided to share a table with them. A wonderful family operated hotel and Resturant in Tuscany. The Latini Family is well known in Florence for the highest quality of the local Italian cuisine. When I walked up to the restaurant, I thought Jay Z and Beyoncé must be eating there. A line forms a half hour before the restaurant opens at 7:30pm. We managed to get a seat in the first wave of people admitted to the restaurant, but I would make a reservation in advance in the future. I was disappointed in the lack of flavor in the bread, but the ravioli appetizer, house wine and 2lb steak (that I splitted) made up for the bread. Curious how the reviews in English are so much better than ones in Italian. I guess it's because of the fantastic atmosphere at Latini's-- an atmosphere that brilliantly caters to a foreigner's romantic idea of the "unassuming trattoria" and has made Latini's fortune. It is, after all, a Legen-aspetta-dary place in Florence. They give you cheese and bubbles with a smile while you wait outside, the lady of the house is grumpily cutting prosciutto by the entrance, the handsome waiters courteously woo all the female patrons, the wine is kept flowing, the prosciuttos merrily dangle from the ceiling, the limoncello or grappa (on the house) and biscotti are quick to come and the bottle is left on the table for you to enjoy as much as you want of it. That's plenty cool Italianness to write home (or Yelp) about with your Limoncello-goggles on. Except, uhm, excuse me?: the food is really NOT that good. The prosciutto is subpar and fatty, the pastas are mediocre at best and light years away from even the most of "unassuming" home cooked meals, and the meat platter- a gory pout-pourri of at least 4 different animals-- is good if you like your beef to taste like chicken and your pork to taste like lamb. And all of it is in huge quantities, because overtly full and overtly buzzed is a perfect way to go back to your hotel room. So if it's atmosphere and familiarity you look for, this is definitely the perfect place for you. If it's good food you seek, do consider going elsewhere. read more

My husband and I decided to go to this restaurant for our last night in Florence. Having been recommended by a good friend of ours as well as Yelp, we thought it would be a great choice. I would say if this is your last meal, first meal or any in between in Florence, please do yourself a favor and skip this place. There is no such thing as "service" in this place. You're all rushed to sit down at your table (since this apparently is highly rated in travel books etc.). One waiter serves about 10 tables at the same time and there is no such thing as a menu. You end up sitting there for 20 min waiting for your antipasti which isn't "bad" and another 15 min waiting for the waiter to tell you what the entree options are. We opted for some pasta to start with (penne with meat sauce and ravioli with ricotta cheese). These were both very mediocre. The ravioli was edible but with a red sauce that was comparable to a red sauce you can get out of a can. The penne was over cooked with a meat sauce that was barely passable as meat. After sitting there and waiting to see what other tourists were "stuck" with, (rare piece of underwhelming piece of steak from what was told to us by our neighbors - it was a big steak though). We did not finish our food, but we still decided to leave. We were extremely disappointed with this restaurant and left wondering what makes this place so amazing. I would strongly recommend skipping this place. There are plenty of great restaurants in Florence with amazing food AND SERVICE. This place is a great place to sit inches from random strangers though... if you're into that, please go. One redeeming dish was the chicken liver pate, warm, savory and served on a peace of toast that was perfectly crunchy. read more

I spent a month in Tuscany and when my Cousin and his wife drove down from Budapest I wanted to give them a special experience . I had been wanting to try the Bisteek Fiorentina but couldn't handle the Kilo of meat by myself so this seemed like a perfect opportunity to give it a try. I was walking through the area and stopped by to take a look at Il Latini. I was told to make reservations and gave the waiter my name...he said that he would write it down. Michelle, in a previous review described the scene at the front door very well...a mob scene that was not at all necessary. If reservations are necessary , I never heard any names called out , including my own. (Though I might want to play it safe during High Season ) A Host at the front door who's job it is to check people in and and call their names at the appropriate time would be a far better way of handling the first seating. Their crazy system actually made me worry that somebody might be injured by the pressing crowd. I think that it would be a safe to guess that more than one fight has broken out at that front door. We never saw a menu or prices but I had an idea about how much the dinner would cost so I left things in the hands of the waiter. The house wine at each table was only $8 and priced accordingly... after tasting it we ordered a better bottle. We had more food than we needed so that wasn't a worry. Dish after dish arrived , all typically Tuscan. Nothing to write home about but we were waiting for the star of the show...the massive T-bone! When it arrived I noticed that part of the T was missing and when I mentioned to the waiter that there was no Tenderloin on this steak he replied "You didn't ask for it" I said that this was the best part of the steak and that we wanted to have it. He said that he would have the kitchen cook another one, and this is when the waiting game began...apparently somebody was offended. Another steak finally arrived but was still missing the tenderloin. They inserted another piece of meat to fill in the spot where the tenderloin was suppose to be , figuring nobody would notice. I gave up and did not make a fuss because who knows what else might end up on our plates. They made a big deal about apologizing for the meat and gave us extra "complimentary" drinks and desserts but that didn't improve the bad taste in my mouth. There are great places to eat in Florence but you have to get lucky or find somebody who knows where to go. Just like in the U.S. some restaurants treat you honestly and have good staff and some restaurants don't . It is a joy to be taken care of by a real professional who knows how to do their job. This was by far the most disgusting slop I have eaten in my entire life. I walked back to the hotel literally puking up the most disgusting parts of the greasy meal. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this restaurant. Our small, hot & cramped room of 39 guests was served AND bussed by the same two waiters/servers/busboys; absolutely not a single other employee ever entered the room the entire night. The slop is served "family style", without any ability to pick or choose what you will be served; everyone eats the same crud. Watch "Vegas Vacation" where Eddie serves up the best $1.49 buffet in Vegas, with its "don't go cheap on me" yella slop, and you will have a very clear idea of the quality of "food" served here. The restroom is co-ed and the servers absolutely DO NOT wash when they leave the toilet - think "Poppie" from Seinfeld, except with the worst quality of food you could ever imagine. The meat was overcooked by several hours - the beef was well-overdone at the bone, dry-as-woodchips everywhere else. The only one in the room that seemed to have appropriately cooked medium-rare beef was a model-looking flirtatious young woman served a huge chunk of ribeye; if you come here, bring a 20-year-old babe who loves disgusting food - and good luck with that. The most appalling aspect of the evening is that you will be paying 50 Euro per person for a meal that absolutely pales in comparison to the worst $1.49 Vegas buffet you could ever imagine in your entire life. We always go here when in Florence and it is always excellent. The staff know how to deal with the many tourists and yet it's very authentic Tuscan cuisine. Either save room for the courses, just sample the courses before the steak comes, or be sure to tell your waiter that you really just want the steak, or I assure you that you will not have room for it. It is true Chianina beef, massive, 2 and a half fingers thick, done on the outside and rare inside and delicious throughout. Tips: 1) Make a reservation. First seating is at 7:30, I believe 2nd seating is at 9:30, could be 10. 2) Show up about 20 minutes early if you can, just so you don't have to elbow your way to the front of the pack of diners waiting to get in. 3) If you are there for the first seating and show up early, you will see the restaurant staff dining inside the front window. Don't be one of those fools who pushes to the front of the crowd and tries the door or raps on the window. If they were open, we wouldn't all be standing outside, duh. 4) Likewise, don't elbow your way to the front of the crowd once the door opens, screaming "I HAVE A RESERVATION!" This happens every time we go there, WITHOUT FAIL. Most of the people there have reservations, you dumbass! Wait for the waiter/maitre d' to ask who has reservations. Give them your name and hold up the fingers for how many in your group. If you act in the way described above, I guarantee you will be one of the last to get in. 5) Take it easy on the bread. Lots of food to come, you want to have room for it. 6) The house red is fantastic, no need to bother ordering from the wine list. 7) Don't you dare tell them how to cook the steak. They are the experts, they know what they are doing. 8) I hope you know that in Italy there's no need to tip, the wait staff are paid a living wage. But if you really liked the service and food, it's ok to leave them €3 to €5 without looking like a dumb tourist. We usually get out for about €50 or less per person. Buon appetito! read more

Food was very good and the atmosphere was nice. However, they have a formula for how dinner is going to get done. They want you to do the fixed price meal where where they bring you different courses. We didn't do that went in our own direction. Food was really good and service was good, we just felt like this was about running an efficient business, it almost felt like we were back in the US.
