I'm a little afraid to post this review because it might make other people show up at Il Montebello and crowd me out. But in all seriousness we were really impressed. The restaurant at Kings Way seems to turn over more frequently than it should. They just haven't been able to get a good outfit in there. Until now. The restaurant is run by the same folks who run the renowned Four Seasons Trattoria on the other side of town. Worth a visit if you're cruising the south side of Yarmouth. The only reason I took a star off for this particular evening was because they were a bit understaffed and it made some of the service slow (to be fair it was July 3). But that is where the criticism ends. I can tell you about the excellent service, the house Chardonnay that knocked my socks off, the beautiful view over the golf course, or the rich but actually light homemade pasta, but the one thing that made the biggest impression on us was that they CARED. From the person who answered the phone for our reservation, to the servers (all of them), to the bartender, they all hustled and were as attentive as they could possibly be on what seemed like a surprisingly busy night for them. We will most definitely come back, and next time we will bring friends (oh, and a little bug spray if we're going to eat on the patio, just in case). read more

Had a wonderful dinner. Great, patient service. Very personable. Beautiful, spacious setting. Split a Caprese salad to start. Very nice and Mozzarella was perfect. I had Chicken Romano that was delicious and tender with sweet artichokes. My wife had the Chicken Marsala that she really enjoyed. My son had a Swordfish special that didn't last long. Very fresh. As great as the meal was the dessert special, made table side by the owner, was incredible. Fresh fruit covered in a custard with Prosecco. Unbelievable! Been back a number of times. Disappointing outing last night. Waited 15 minutes to be greeted by the host and get seated. Waitress never checked with us after the meal was served. Waited 45 minutes to get any service after we finished our meal. Had to get up and go find waitress. It unfortunate that the service was so bad because the food was really good. read more

Given how convenient this is for Kings Way and Heatherwood residents I really want this place to be good. We've eaten there several times and the food is normally pretty good. But I think you need to stick to the Italian specialties. Pasta and sauce things are fine. Several of us ordered salads today and Boy were they disappointing. Those that ordered shrimp were happy but we had a couple chicken Caesars and Cobb salads and they were paltry in serving size and quality. These are fairly standard menu items and not hard to do well. The Cobb was on a tiny bed of lettuce, two paltry skinny slices of avocado, an egg, and a few crumbs of bacon. No blue cheese. It was a creamy blue cheese dressing. For $16 it should be much better than this. For $21 the chicken Caesar was really overpriced and paltry as well. They'd better improve to survive. Ended up here after the place we were going to had an hour wait and I'm so glad we did. The food was delicious. I got the chicken parm and it was one of the best I've ever had, right up there with NY Italian and the north end in Boston. My son had the pizza and he ate every bite. The service was impeccable, very welcoming and friendly staff. We will absolutely be back next time we are in the Cape. Absolutely horrendous. The host is the most miserable man walking the planet. The food was good but that was it. The service was the worst I have ever seen. I really mean that. I've never seen anything like it. We had no idea who our waitress was. When they finally came to our table it was like we were bothering them. I noticed the 4 other tables around me were just as pissed off. We ended up having a nice conversation with a guy next to us about the disaster we were witnessing. Ate lunch on their patio. Lovely view of the golf course and plenty of shade under umbrellas. Complimentary bruschetta was delicious as were our sandwiches. Guessing this place won't be open long. Had booked our wedding reception for a date in September after Labor Day. Went to finalize and was told price went from $50pp to $80pp, FOR BUFFET. Wouldn't do pizzas for cocktail hour; wasn't going to give us the patio; and wasn't going to close the side of the restaurant where the bar was. We had 100 guests coming and this is how the owner is choosing to do business. I have been in the industry for over 20 years and have never seen such a terrible business decision. The place was a ghost town on a Saturday night in the summer, yet they were unwilling to accommodate us for an off season night. Also , as anyone knows, the price "Per person" doesn't go up by $30 just because the number went from 75 to 85 people. Oh and by the way, a lot of the people are locals so not a good look ! read more

Personally I was disappointed in the Caprese - a ball of mozzarella cut in two over two industrial tasteless tomatoes - a real downer considering the availability of local "real" tomatoes. We had a great evening with friends at Montebello. Food and service were excellent and everyone on staff were cordial and very pleasant. We visited with friends - 3 entrees were perfect but mine was a Veal didh that was so thin & overcooked it was nearly impossible to cut let alone eat. I ended up having to pick up large pieces with my fingers to eat. I wrote to the restaurant to share my bad experience & so far (well over a month ago ) I have had no response. Apparently they don't care. Yes I should have complained at the time but my husband gets upset when I send food back. I doubt we will ever go back there. read more

last night was our third visit within four weeks. First two were fine with good food and friendly staff. last night awful. Staff had no record of our reservation, was seated on patio per our request and then waited and waited for someone to inquire about our order... waited and waited. Finally, placed drink order; they came, then had to wait again for someone to take food order. ordered a Caprese appetizer . it was as one other reviewer (joe n.) claimed,- a ball of mozzarella cut in two over two industrial tasteless tomatoes " But at least it came to the table. bread and dipping was a life-saver! We were seated one and half hours before our three main dishes were placed on table. Other tables received their orders before us although arriving after us. We should have cut our losses and asked for the check, but we could not find a waiter to ask! I have never posted a review on Yelp before nor complained about a restaurant publicly before, but I feel the need to after having the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant in my life at Il Montebello on this past Friday July 5th. My mother lives in the community where the restaurant is and made a reservation for our family (her, me, my husband and our two sons, ages 5 and 9) to end our week long vacation on the Cape with a nice dinner. As the restaurant is within walking distance of my mom's house, we walked over and approached the restaurant from the golf course and back patio near the outside bar. My mother, who requested an outside table so we wouldn't disturb other diners if our boys got noisy, went inside to the host/hostess area to check in and be seated while we waited outside. While we were waiting two very nice waitresses asked us separately if we were waiting for a table and I explained that my mother was inside checking in. The second waitress offered to seat us so we took a table in the shade at the far end of the patio. She had barely walked away from us when the owner, Manny, abruptly approached our table and began yelling at us for seating ourselves. I explained to him that we were seated by a waitress to which he yelled, "No! No one seated you!" I pointed out the very nice waitress who seated us, she apologetically admitted that she had, yet he only uttered "Oh - ok" and stormed off. No apology. The first waitress who asked us if we wanted a table explained to us and the other waitress that a private party was booked for the area we were seated in and then brought us over to a table that seats 4 by the other side of the patio. By this time Manny had brought my mother out and realized we were all a part of the same party. I explained to my mother how he had yelled at us to which he yelled, "I wasn't yelling at you!" My husband tried to get him to quiet down while the waitresses offered to bring a 5th chair so we could all fit at the table. Instead of taking yet another chance to apologize or calm down, Manny yelled at my husband that it was his restaurant and that he could do what he wanted and that we could leave. So, we did and we will obviously NEVER return and will be spreading the word to all of my mom's many friends on the Cape and our many friends who vacation there about Manny's rude, unacceptable behavior. He lost what could have been potential returning customers, instead creating animosity and ensuring that we will share this negative encounter publicly. What bothered me the most was that he acted like this in front of our children who asked, "Why was that man so mean?". His staff were SO pleasant and the atmosphere lovely on the patio, but Manny has A LOT to learn about customer relations! ZERO STARS! read more

The food was standard Italian fare. It was fine, not amazing, not bad. The service was lacking. The hostess was not friendly. Never smiled while greeting us...seemed more annoyed. Same with the waitress. No smiles...felt like we were a bother rather than paying customers choosing their restaurant on our vacation. Strange atmosphere here. It's at a country club and presents as upscale with white table clothes, yet the couch in the waiting area was torn up and literally peeling apart and there is a broken Pepsi fridge in the main entrance. The food was fantastic. The service, ehh. Yes, they were busy, BUT someone could've stopped by our table and said, hi and explained they would be with us shortly. Instead we sat. And sat. And sat. Finally we asked the hostess to bring us drinks. When our server, Mia arrived she never introduced herself. We had to ask about food specials. Hit this place when first opened and write a review on how they confused dishes and took forever to serve orders. But thought we'd try again after them being opened for a few months. Well tried to go to celebrate a family birthday. Made reservation two days prior for a time the host said they had an opening (after their online reservation page crashed.) - we arrived on time and it was a zoo. Several parties with reservations were waiting. Host appeared overworked, disinterested and not very nice. After waiting 45 mins and several conversations where I asked whether we'd even be seated he set up a table in the bar. Took another half hour to get any server to help us (several tables were all waiting too - no one had food!) we ordered sodas and a bottle of wine finally. Another half hour and NO wine. Another host finally came over after we'd been there an hour and a half to take order. We asked point blank.."do u think this will take two hours or should we leave?" He agreed that they couldn't serve that night..new chef etc Clearly overwhelmed. We said "well we're going to leave then as this isn't acceptable." So off we went offering to pay for the soda's as that's all that came and he waved it away. Very disappointing as we were a large party and celebrating a milestone birthday. Two hours with no food, is not good. Esp off season. Don't think we'll be back. :( read more

Although this is by far not a favorite restaurant of ours, today is our dear friends birthday and it is one of his favorites. For this reason I reserved a table for four for the occasion. I specifically asked if they would be open on this Monday, after Labor Day and the person who answered the phone assured me they were going to be open, took the reservation and even took the information about our friends birthday. Well, today, the day of our reservation, I went to their website to look at the menu. I noticed it said CLOSED MONDAYS. I called and got no answer. I called their other location and explained why I was calling. The woman who answered asked me to hold on while she checked. "They are closed " she said, when she returned. They had my name and phone number and didn't even bother to call me to apologize and to tell me they took the reservation in error. My past 3 experiences with this restaurant were all about the same. Food not very good. Lots of attitude and prices in line with high end restaurants who know how to properly prepare their dishes. One example. I ordered Chioppino, which the manager described and which sounded wonderful, complete with house made pasta. What arrived was overcooked, tasteless seafood in a broth that might have been tepid dishwater. The wonderful house made pasta was a mass of broken very mushy noodles on the bottom of this very expensive bowl of overcooked and tasteless seafood. Another time I ordered a special, Osso Bucco. When the special was announced, the price was not. When I asked the price, the server asked the same manager to come to our table. He explained to me that most people don't want to hear the price. I laughed in his face. Well my very overpriced entree was as tough as shoe leather. It was simply not prepared properly. At about $40 I was certainly not impressed. In fact, I left it on my plate. I could go on as I used to live at Kings Way, where this place is located. Never a great meal. Sometimes a good meal, but most often a sub par meal at a high price with attitude to boot. So thank you for spoiling our friends birthday. I know I will never again set foot in either location. read more

This restaurant recently opened in Kings Way off 6A. It's owned by the same owners of Four Seasons Trattoria in South Yarmouth. It's open 7 days from 10:30 AM-10:00 PM. It's popular with golfers from the course right outside its doors and with locals looking for an excellent meal. The food is fresh, authentic Italian prepared with care. Service is exceptionally attentive. Pizza is popular in the lounge as well as takeout for the local residents. Drinks ( cosmos and lemon drop martinis) were above average. I can't believe this is the first time we've been here. The service was spectacular! To the point my kids commented on how attentive all the staff was. The food was delicious and the setting beautiful! We sat outside on the brick patio overlooking the golf course. What a great setting! My kids had chicken parm and a burger (steak fries were the best!). We started with an appetizer sampler of stuffed clams, shrimp, rollatini and stuffed mushrooms. The only thing we weren't impressed with was the rollatini. I got the penne ala vodka which was out of this world and my husband got the cioppino. The sauce was outstanding! We went to Il Montebello on a Thursday evening--not too busy early on, but it filled up more closer to 7 pm. The dining room was quietly elegant, with deep red and white linens on the tables, quiet carpeting and wine selections and bread on display. Service was friendly, informative and attentive. Warmed crusty Italian bread was brought to the table with a plate of olive oil and thinly sliced courgette and eggplant for a savory start. I ordered the veal saltinbocca, truly "jumping in the mouth," with tender thin-sliced veal topped with prosciutto and mozzarella with a satiny sage -seasoned white sauce. My date ordered one of the specials--pork chop with mushrooms and red wine sauce, a large tender chop with smooth, mushroom-filled sauce. Only complaint is that he had to ask for a spoon to scoop up the gravy! The New Zealand sauvignon blanc was a crisp refreshing companion to them both. For dessert, we enjoyed a seasonal special of fresh strawberries nestled in an egg & whipped cream and brandy custard with crumbled almond biscotti folded into it.
