Generally a nice Italian place. The host must have been helping with service as we waited a little more than 5 minutes to be seated. We had the caprese which was standard fare. The crab cake appetizer was good, better than most. The fra diavolo was not spicy at all. The red sauce lacked pizzazz. My hubby had the gnocchi with porcini cream sauce which was good. We prefer gnocchi to be pan seared so that was a miss for us. He also ordered scallops which were excellently prepared. I had their homemade tiramisu which was good. read more

I've been thinking about exactly how to write this review (or even to if I should write it at all) for weeks. TLDR: odd ambiance, bland food, do not recommend After a weekend at the shore, we were driving back to the Trenton train station so I could get back into the city and wanted to stop for dinner before that. Neither of us were familiar with the restaurants in the area but he reviews seemed pretty good and their menu/website looked lovely. As we arrived, this place pops up out of the strip malls and bland NJ scenery. First of all, there's only one way into the parking lot, and it's not super obvious, so we tried turning into the strip mall's parking lot next to it (which is not accessible, we had to go back out on to the main road). When we walked in, it was clear this was mainly used an an event space, it looked grand and not like the rest of the area. The guy at the front was talking with an older woman who seemed to be a customer, or just hanging out there. Anyway he brought us to our table and asked if he could get us a drink. We were a little confused because usually the host is not also the waiter, but in this case, that's exactly what happened. He was one of the most interesting people either of us have ever come across. It was almost like he was playing the character of a fancy waiter instead of actually being one? Think: your very best (and serious) impersonation of a downton abby butler, but still off. I honestly could not understand what he was trying to do, but it was confusing. They brought us our sparkling water in an ice bucket to keep it chilled, and it was so unclear if we were supposed to pour it ourselves our not. The ice bucket was messy-ish (being that as the ice melted it turned to water), but also we wanted our glasses refilled far more often than someone was around to do it, so we just awkwardly managed. The decor was upscale and formal (like you'd expect out of an event space) it was actually really nice and well put together. The waiters were dressed well, but the diners (ourselves included) were in jeans and very casual, an interesting dichotomy. The restaurant was also VERY quiet. I'm can't remember if there as music playing, but if there was it was just a light background melody. This made it awkward, there were at least 4 other tables but it was so quiet it felt like you had to whisper. The menu was big, but was also structured like an authentic Italian menu with pastas separate from meat dishes. We started off with the Arugula and Fragole salads. They were absolutely drenched in dressing, could have done with half and it would have been fine. Neither the arugula or the spring mix was stiff enough to stand up to the way it was dressed. For my main dish I got The Veal Mare Monte, and I should have picked something else. Maybe I'm judging a bit harshly because the veal I had in Rome was exquisite, but this dish had no flavor. It came with crabmeat and roasted red peppers and spinach but it was just so bland. The spinach had to most flavor, the spinach!! I love veal so this was really disappointing. It also came with approximately 3 small roasted potatoes that seemed to have no seasoning. My mother got the Chicken Capri which she said was similarly tasteless. I've been to other Italian restaurants outside of Italy and have had wonderful experiences (Positano in Brooklyn for instance), so it's not just that I'm a snob. The food was subpar at at best. This was compounded by the fact that in addition to our character-waiter, at least 3 other people came over to ask how we were enjoying the food. And what can you really say? It wasn't complaint worthy, per se. We're not people to make a scene. There was nothing wrong it just wasn't good food. Everyone had done their jobs and we weren't trying to get out of paying so we just had to keep nodding that everything was fine. This is partially why I was hesitant to write a review at all, I suppose we could have spoken up, but to what end? We felt awkward enough just being in the restaurant. In the end, we turned down desert/coffee twice and finally got the check. We paid and tipped 20%. Upon visiting the bathroom before heading out, there was one large stately chair in the bathroom. Set like it was surveying the area, the arm hit the door when we opened it. So very odd. Coming here felt like we'd stepped into an adjacent universe, and not in a good way. Everything was just a bit off and awkward. Part of me wonders if even happened at all. I can't say I'll be back. Found this place while visiting friends in Cherry Hill NJ. We had lunch at this very cosy BYOB. The room we were seated in had a real wood burning fireplace and the tables were white tablecloth setting. The appetizers started off with a very tasty beet salad with arugula pistachio and goat t cheese. The beets were fresh and roared in house. Our lunch companions enjoyed a freshly made Cesar salad. My entree was the Scallops Risotto with four large perfectly seared scallops and delicious truffle infused rice. My wife's Gnocchi in pomodoro sauce were light and airy. Our dining companions had the special Dover Sole which was delicious. Will definitely make the trip to the Garden State to enjoy this taste of Italy. read more

We were a party of 8. We all had frequented IL Villaggio in the past. Food has always been wonderful. From presentation to taste. Our experience last evening was surprising the worst dining experience in quite sometime. Server was overwhelmed with the number of tables he was assigned. Service was very slow and not accurate to what was ordered. There seemed to much confusion. Three of the eight guests did NOT enjoy there meal. Food delivery was not in order. The most difficult part of the meal was when our meatballs were cut open to find raw ground meat. Lastly, I made the reservation by phone. I called to confirm three days before hand. I received 2 texts from the restaurant to confirm my reservation AND I received a call yesterday to confirm we were still a party of 8. Not once in all the communication was I told the menu has changed and they now have a liquor license. The website has not been update to inform the customer. read more

New favorite spot for itAlian! Didn't know it existed until I got a gift card for Christmas. Pretty small parking lot but they have valet and it seems much bigger inside than on the outside. Decor is pretty dated but friendly staff, especially Herman our server who left us cracking up the entire meal! First trip I had the Gorgonzola gnocchi, which was in a yummy cream sauce and I loved it. Bread was also delicious and another plus is saving money on the BYOB factor. My family all loved their meals as well and we had dessert, can't remember what sadly but I know I ate it all and felt emotional about it. I give four stars only because I went for Valentine's Day and it was smaller menu which was fine, but they wouldn't switch our veggies for pasta with like chicken parm....I get it on nights like that they want to keep substitutes to a minimum, I have worked in Italian restaurants myself. This has always been our favorite restaurant but now of course it's extra special :) Lauren took great care of us and our family & friends and it was the perfect start to our wedding weekend! Food was very good especially presentation....but prices are high for a BYOB restaurant. I am writing this because I was completely and utterly annoyed at the wait staffs over whelming desire to clear your plate while you are still eating and the rest of the table is, as well. I don't know when, good service meant wrestling away a patrons plate without making sure they were finished ( this happened 3 x during my one dinner). I lost part of my appetizer, my salad and my dinner. I was trained at the highest end restaurants many years prior and was taught explicitly that it's rude to leave one person dining while all the others are cleared and sitting plate-less, but this restaurant makes plate clearing a matter of urgency. We celebrated my wife's birthday party here (party of 10,) and were fortunate enough to work with the Managing Partner, Arber, who helped us select a PERFECT menu for our event. I came here for date night on a Monday night; the restaurant had a pretty good crowd to my surprise for a Monday. One thing that was odd was there was no host in sight for a good 5+ minutes when we walked in, and since the back of the restaurant is not visible from the front we finally had to walk to back and flag someone down to let them know we were there. As soon as we sat the service picked way up. We were given water and fresh bread with a tomato oil mixture right away. We had two servers throughout the night, both were very attentive. I was also surprised at how many specials were available for a Monday-special appetizers and entrees. We had the fried calamari for an appetizer which was yummy. Next time I will definitely get one of their appetizer salads, I kept watching them come out and each one looked better than the last. I ordered the pasta special, a homemade egg pappardelle in a short rib ragu. The flavors were amazing, there was almost as much short rib as pasta in the dish! My boyfriend ordered the Chicken Romano dish off the menu, he was disappointed because he had envisioned it as a chicken cutlet style, but it wasn't breaded at all when it came out. I entertained my family of 7 albeit 2 were children at this restaurant. I can say this is an easy restaurant to forget. The service was good, the place was clean and my reservation was exactly what I wanted. A round table for 7! We started with appetizers to share like MOZZARELLA CAPRESE, GRILLED CALAMARI and BEEF CARPACCIO. For dinner the children had chicken tenders with fries and ravioli with cheese. No complaints from the little ones. The adults ordered LINGUINE CARBONARA, TAGLIATELLE BOLOGNESE, PENNE PRIMAVERA, CHICKEN ARROSTO and VEAL IL VILLAGGIO. Portion size and presentation were spot on. However, to a person each said something was missing from their entree to make it spectacular...maybe a spice or a sauce or an ingredient to offset sweetness or acidity. We booked this restaurant for my fathers 90th birthday on 6/13/21 for 55 people in the Spring room. We have been here a couple times for other functions and really liked it. However I do not know what the hell was going on for our 5:00pm party. Our guest arrived before us ( WE WERE BRING THE GUEST OF HONOR ) the guest were never greeted and had to find a server to show them where to go. Once I arrived again no one showed me around but I figured out where to go. Once inside I noticed that there were no appetizers out I ordered four different options. There were two teenage severs standing there and they told me they would go get them. My party was buffet styles, so they brought out the apps and put them into the chafing dishes. Much to my surprise after about 7 people went up to get some apps and then they were empty. I immediately ask the young servers why aren't the dishes full of food. They looked embarrassed and told me they would be right back with more. The servers came back but with very little food, half my guests did not get any appetizers, needless to say I was mortified. The servers then told me dinner would be brought out shortly, I ask them to please go get a manager because I wanted to dinner trays to be full with food. NO manager ever came in but the servers assured me there would be plenty of food for my guests. Meanwhile my guest were never offered soda or tea, water glasses were empty, then I realized that the two servers who were running back and fourth to the kitchen were supposed to be taking drink orders. As hosts me and my husband were socializing with guest I didn't realize no one had water etc. Before long they brought in the larger chafing dishes, to my horror once again there were very sparse. It literally appeared that they were feeding 12 people instead of 55 people. Once again my guests would walk up to the buffet and walk away due to the chafing dishes being empty. So once again I asked for a manager and once again he didn't come in. I was to pre-occupied to keep looking for management and overwhelmed asking these to young servers where the food is. This function was not cheap I paid $43.00 a person plus gratuity. The day never got any better, they didn't even serve the coffee in a timely fashion, taking so long most guests left before it came out ( but they still charged me $2.00 a cup ). As we rapped up the young server gave us our bill, the guest of honor wouldn't leave our side so we just paid it, we didn't want to complain in front of him, he was so excited with us for giving him a party. Not only was there very little food they even forgot to serve vegetables which were included. Ok bottom line I should have raised hell and only paid for about 25 people but the restaurant was full and I didn't want to embarrass anyone. We called the restaurant on numerous occasions to speak to the owner, he will not return our calls, and they don't have a email address listed. We stopped there on two separate occasions and were told the owner is on vacation ( for over a month ). Finally I did get a chance to talk to Andy the party coordinator who said he was giving us a one hundred dollar gift card, he assured me the owner would call me the next day. It has been 6 weeks no call from the owner. I really feel that with their lack of properly preparing for our party and very poor service they owe me a huge apology and half of my money back. I truly believe they forgot they booked our party and the kitchen was to busy to keep up, due to it being a busy Sunday. Like I stated before we have been to parties here and they were always nice with plenty of food. PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU BOOK A PARTY AT THIS RESTAURANT YOU MAY END UP LIKE ME AND MY HUSBAND, WE WERE ROBBED. I can not stress enough how embarrassing it was to have a party with very little food for our guests. This was just HORRIBLE. Three weeks later we booked another party for my in-laws 80th, for 40 people at another restaurant of coarse. Exceptional Italian restaurant! Impeccable service from experienced wait staff. I can't say enough about their food- excellent varied menu. Appetizers: buratta cheese and tomato, mozzarella caprese, and beef carpaccio all excellent. Arugula salad delicious. For entrees: gnocchi Adriatico, chicken parm, scallop risotto and Bronzino are delicious. Il Villaggio is one of the only restaurants I will order gnocchi. They are house made and filled with love! Started off looking for a restaurant with seafood on the app and this place was on the list. Thank god it was. This place was very good. The server/waitress Anna was outstanding. She was on top of her game. Always making sure our wine and beer glass were full. Very knowledgeable about the menu. At first I was very cautious because she suggested one of the specials. (Because specials are usually overpriced and thought she was trying to up the bill). Let me tell you I'm so glad she did and the prices of the specials was so close to the menu items it didn't make a difference. She was absolutely fabulous. I hope when I go back she is our server again. As for the food, all I can say is wow! Started with warm bread, and the crab cake appetizer. Very good. My wife and I both ordered a special. Absolutely HORRENDOUS!! Will NEVER go back and ensure people stay far away from this place. Made a Reservation on Open Table a week ago. When we arrived, there was a huge line to "check-in". They either Overbook or take Walk-Ins which supersede Reservations, and most especially.... OPEN TABLE Reservations. Unacceptable! There were five of us and all five of us could here conversations around us that were not positive. When it was our turn to tell them we had a 7:00 Reservation, note we arrived at 6:56. We were told we had a 20-30 minute wait because they "were busy"! Unbelievable. So what are we??? Then, we all watched them "Sit" Walk-ins. I went back to the Hostess and said it's been 30 minutes and I see you're taking Walk-ins. All she said was "Sorry. Would you like to speak with the Manager"? Yes, I said. In under a minute, he came out to us and just said, "Yes. How can I help you"? I told him our concern about the very long wait, with an Open Table Reservation. Then, we all about died of shock after the words which came out of his mouth next. He said, If you don't like it, you can leave"!!! And he then just walked away. No "So Sorry. We'll seat you as soon as we can". No manners. No respect for the Patron $$$&. Our mouthes hung wide open in a state of disbelief. Not at all what you would expect from a Manager of a Restaurant! This Restaurant should have its "rights removed" from a respectable online Reservation company like Open Table. They do not belong here and if I owned this Restaurant, that Manager would be terminated immediately "for cause"! Completely Justified. read more

We were looking forward to a leisurely Saturday night dinner, but our frosty wait person seemed mainly interested in moving us in and out as quick as possible, even though there were plenty of empty tables. Pluses - the decor is nice and wines are very reasonably priced even if you don't BYOB. The main minus is that the food is not great. We are accustomed to grilled calamari with lots of garlic and savory seasoning- this was devoid of that and just nothing special. My entree was supposed to have a rich sauce but instead was bland. My husband felt the same about his pasta dish. Our desserts were ok but nothing to write home about. Frankly we were mystified about why this place is bustling. Italian restaurants where we live in the western Philadelphia suburbs are so much better - it's worth the trip! We came without a reservation on a weekend and the place was packed. By some miracle there was a table opened and our party was seated right away. I ordered the veal and I think it's one of the best I ever had! I'm kind of craving it again as I type this. Definitely worth trying. read more

I will give this zero Stars. I have never posted a review of a restaurant . After reviewing the reviews I would not have gone. The only good part of our meal was the oil that was served with our bread. We ordered the Caprese salad and the Tomato was not ripe it didn't have any flavor the roasted peppers were from a can. The tomato sauce was unlike any tomato sauce I've ever had. It was orange and had no flavor it was awful. The chicken was dry hard on the edges and tasted like it was from a box then put in the microwave and overcooked. The chocolate lava cake was was very very small dry not sweet and awful. We were planning a $2,000 baby shower but we will not even consider it now. The meal was pricey. The portions were small and we will not be going back. What a great spot. Have gone many times and always delicious! Now, during Covid, they are knocking it out of the park! The food is still superb, and the service/ ambiance is awesome! Sent a friend there for BDAY dinner and they were just as pleased. Can't wait to go back. read more
