Came in for the first time. Was greeted by Nick at the bar. Super nice and welcoming guy. I decided to sit at the bar and he helped me pick out a meal that he knew I would love. Our first date night as a married couple, we visited Il Villagio. I have lived in this town for 30 years and never actually got a chance to visit this restaurant, but this past week we ended up deciding to have a nice dinner and try it out! First off, the atmosphere is very cozy and the service is gentle and attentive. The food was delicious from appitizer to dessert. The cocktails were very well done and enjoyable. We had the the Mozzarella Carozza, the Pork chop special (my wife had this and said it was delicious!) and the Bucatini Arrabiata with Lobster (absolutely delicious!). We finished with the Creme Brulee and italian cheesecake. The creme brulee was perfect and the italian cheesecake was light but really good as well. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys high quality italian cuisine. You will not be disappointed! read more

During the warmer weather there is outdoor seating available. If a few people are dining, order the Hot Antipasti app. Main course: a bit pricey but probably the best veal chop you have ever tasted. Don't care for veal? Then have the Baby Rack of Lamb. If you are not a meat lover and Halibut is on the menu then that's your choice my friend. You read this far so you must be my friend? This resturant is fabulous in every way. They begin your dining experience with complimentary fresh bread with a vegetable and eggplant spread. For an appetizer we had the hot anti pasta for 2. It contained baked clams, eggplant rollatini, fried calamari and stuffed mushrooms. Delicious. For the main course I had the veal saltimbocca which came with a bed of spinach and a potato slice. Again delicious. The wife had the special which was scallops oreganata. Came with a side of vegetables and a slice of potato. Delicious. And finally for dessert we had a traditional cannoli and tartufo which were both delicious and the presentations were spectacular. Service was impeccable. Staff was attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is intimate and music is very romantic. Feels like a good old family establishment for locals. Owner is having drinks at the bar with his friends. The food. I'm conflicted on how I feel about this place. The service was excellent and the drinks were good, but the food was mediocre and there were other things that brought my rating down from a solid 3 to a weak 2. The gf and I came here after a movie. We were going to go somewhere else, but thought, 'we're here so why not try it.' The staff was very friendly and sat us down immediately. One interesting note - at this time, we were given a wine list, but no food menus. We chose our drinks. She had a glass of wine and I had an old fashion. The old fashion was one of the best I ever had. I was cautiously optimistic. We received a basket of bread with some cheese, olives, and a spicy garlic mix. Interesting note - we were not given butter. One of the waiters then proceeded to give us the specials. He spoke a little fast, but was very thorough and all of it sounded good. We decided on a ratatouille appetizer as well as a eggplant meatball appetizer off of the specials he gave us. He also went through the entree specials and even had two plates with the actual proteins that could be prepared. That's a nice touch that I've only seen at one other restaurant. Menus came very close in timing with our appetizers. The ratatouille was refreshing and tasty. I've honestly never had it before and therefore have nothing to compare it to, but I would order it again. The eggplant meatballs were rather mediocre. There was nothing about them that stood out or seemed special. We decided to go with the skirt steak entree and also a gnocchi for entrees, both are menu staples. My skirt steak came with some creamy mashed potato and sauteed greens. The greens were a bit bitter, but the mash was delicious. Unfortunately, the mash was the best part of the plate. The steak was ok, but not really a $28 steak. I've had better steaks for less. I think I'd blame myself though; if I wanted good steak I should go to a Colombian restaurant or Brazilian. The gf's gnocchi tasted good, but it's gnocchi. I can't say I've ever had a gnocchi that made me think that I should come back for it again. We passed on dessert, but enjoyed a latte and cappuccino. Interesting note - my latte came in a small cup that had no finger hole. Instead it came with a solid handle you have to pinch. It was good grip exercise, but that's not really what i'm looking for in a latte. There were a few other things that brought this experience from a 3 to a 2. After we enjoyed the early bread, the waiters never cleaned the table as you'd expect from a higher end Italian restaurant. Also, there were no less than three flies buzzing around our table. I killed one fruit fly, while another fruit fly and regular fly made our table their temporary home. This is a good place with good service. I'd like to give it another go and try something different, but the truth is that I'll likely not come back. The service is great, but the food left me wanting and with so many Italian places to patron, I can't say there was any one thing that would bring me back here. read more

Came here for my anniversary on a recommendation of a friend. The food was good, but for the price, eh.... They could have done a little bit better. It is a small upscale restaurant with tiny portions. The complementary starter on the table (cheese & olives) was delicious. The fried calamari $9 was light and buttery it was my favorite part of the meal. I got the shrimp scampi $26 which was in a light brown sauce (tasted good but not what I was expecting) it came with 6 average sized shrimp and about 5 bites of pasta. My fiance got pasta il villagio $18- fresh pasta with shrimp, clams, mushrooms & tomatoes. I should have really splurged and gotten the zuppa di pesce $35 which my friend recommended, but instead I went the cheaper route. This little place was definitely good, and worth coming back to, but I will have to save up before returning. I believe a lot of locals in the area come here because it seemed like the staff knew a lot of the customers, chatting with them etc. One day I will make my way back. read more

Ok, my family and I moved down the street from this restaurant a year ago, but only went there for the first time yesterday. Damn it I have a missed a year worth of delicious food and great service!!! Since we moved to LI last year, we have tried a lot of restaurants in the surrounding towns (like Rockville Centre) while ignoring this gem down the block. My mistake. We arrived last night, three adults and two children, and were seated at a comfortable round table, greeted warmly and given drinks and delicious olive bread and caponata. The waiter explained the evenings specials in detail and then brought over two platters - one with the fish options of the evening and one with the meat cuts for the evening. This touch of actually seeing the uncooked fresh cuts of meat and fish was so classy and so informative as to the quality of the options. They took our orders (which were not from the menu, but specials along with some "customized" orders for the kids) and dinner began with a cold antipasto plate of high quality dried sausage and cheese and a plate of the lightest and freshest fried calamari I have ever had. The pastas are all homemade and - based on the papparedelle and fussili I tried - amazing. I haven't had quality pastas like this, cooked so well and flavorful in their respective fish and meat sauces, in I don't know how long. I ordered the stuffed veal chop. Tender and stuffed with mozzarella and prosciuto, and cooked in wine and shallot sauce, it was literally mind blowing. The flavors were intense and the quality of each ingredient came through in each bite. The owner came over to say hello and ask about our food, and the first thing I did was confess to my crime of living down the street and yet never trying the restaurant. First time here. The space is the size of a railroad car, and with similar acoustics. Ridiculously loud. Service was well-meaning, but long lags with no waiter checking in. The food: Bread served tasted stale but the dipping sauces were good.The arugula salad with pear, walnut and Gorgonzola was absolutely tasteless. The pear was under ripe with no flavor, the walnuts not even toasted or sugared, and the dressing did not help with flavor. We ordered the branzino grilled and de-boned. They brought the fish out whole, so had to go back to the kitchen. It was 10 minutes before the fish came back out. It seemed as if the fish had been removed in pieces and then presented on the plate in lots of small pieces. As an afterthought, these was a blob of mashed potato, and several pieces of carrot and green beans .Reminded me of a diner meal. Overall, unappetizing. For 40 dollars, are you kidding? After dinner, the waiter arrived at the table with a plate stuffed side to side with the dessert selections. There were several tartufo suffering from freezer burn, and this was unappetizing and incredibly unattractive, especially as the waiter pointed at each item with an ink pen. The entire meal was pricey, and I felt robbed of what I wished had been a pleasant evening. Too noisy, mediocre food, Waiters constantly back and forth down the middle "aisle", huge price tag. Food is important, ambiance and service are more important to me than anything else. This place is rediculous. I am new to the neighborhood. I wanted to try out the restaurants as I mentioned to the bar tender or owner. We were the only ones in the restaurant. You would think an owner would want to develop his business by coming over and welcoming us. He did nothing but sit at the bar and watch tv. The food is good, but over priced especially when being serviced by a waiter that barely speaks English and I doubt the waiters first language is Italian. It would be worth it if the service was better. Speaking of the wait staff, not friendly or convincing on the menu, it felt as if I was bothering him. He Barely came to check on us. I felt as if they prefer to not deal with gay customers. I tried 2 more times to give them the benefit of the doubt. No excuse, they were equally as poor the second and third time around. My friends and I had dinner here Saturday night, the restaurant was bustling, and the bar was full of patrons, and yet our reservation was right on time. Our dinner, from the bread (the olive bread was a nice touch) to our entrees were spot on. From our salads to the whole branzino, and the veal marsala, everything was superb. I usually come here for a casual Sunday night with my family. It is a bit pricey, but totally worth it! The bread they put out with the garlic sauce to dip in is amazing. Their salads are so good. I usually get a cesar salad and the chicken parm for a main dish. One of the best chicken parms I have ever had. Their sauces are amazing. I also love the chicken with the lemon whine sauce.
