I got there as they opened, 8am on the weekends. The course starts on the far end of the park so you get to take in the park on the way there. Ducks and geese love this place. They are all over the place. The lake that takes up the middle of the park is postcard perfect. You can't really blame the birds for liking it. When we play the course it gives you a chance to see alot of the park. The course covers almost everything east to west. One of the really neat things is the burrowing owl really likes this park. They are located at at least 4 spots I have been by. They are unique not just for nesting underground, but that they have alot of attitude. There is one couple of birds that are the 16th tee box who hiss at you while you play. Including the bird encounters, Its a great park, whether disc golfing, or bird spotting.

In 1923 Maitland helped form the American British Improvement Association which purchased 8,000 acres of land north of Fort Lauderdale including a mile of oceanfront property. She planned to create a luxury resort in Broward County with the help of investor John S. Pillsbury, co-founder of the Pillsbury food company. The name Floranada was chosen from a mash up of Florida and Canada but the American British Improvement Association went bankrupt in 1926 before the resort could be built. This neighborhood in Ft. Lauderdale still bears the name. Floranada Park is almost 10 acres of outdoor recreational fun. Amenities include an athletic field, open area for play, pavilion, picnic tables, and grill, playground, restrooms, and sand volleyball court. Since the park is next to a school it is open daily after school until 9 PM and all day on the weekends. During the weekdays this park is mainly an extension of the school. In the back of the park is a path that crosses over a small foot bridge and leads into the neighborhood. My favorite part of the park was all of the birds I saw. Peacocks were on parade along with ducks, and two rooster best friends. This park along with the River Oaks neighborhood was such a fun discovery. Just down the road is the River Oaks Preserve Stormwater Treatment Area but it is currently closed for improvements. When it reopens you can do even more bird watching there.

After all, it is the start of summer in South Florida. I tried this park. It's well maintained and has fields for sports including tennis, baseball, and basketball. Plus there is sort of a path that goes around the park (if you include the regular sidewalk on one side). There are a lot of nice trees, but I would say there is about 50% shade coverage. So for me that may not be enough. But for others who want to use the facilities and don't mind the heat, it could be nice.

This neighborhood was built between 1958 to 1970 and is home to a large Caribbean population There is no dedicate parking lot. You park around the perimeter of the park. Park amenities include a quarter mile exercise trail with fitness stations. There are also two basketball courts, a 100 square foot picnic shelter, and a shaded playground. There is a large open field for play and exercise. The park has many large native shade trees. Close to the street part of the park is fenced off and there is a large mound of dirt peeking over the top of the fence. There is some unsightly garbage and debris on the ground behind the fence. It is not keeping with the strict city code enforcement which keeps Plantation looking stellar.. Hope they clean it up and finish whatever they are doing soon.

Throughout the garden, there are several exercise stations with instructions to test your fitness abilities. The garden borders a canal loaded with active ducks and iguanas.

My wife and I walked around looking at all the beautiful plants and trees for several hours. They also have a few water falls as well. They have paved walkways and you can bring your dogs along for the walk. They do have trails you can venture off through the plants and trees that leads back to the paved paths. We loved it! On the grounds they have tennis courts, basketball courts and a nice playground for kids. If you are ever in the area you MUST stop by this park! We definitely recommend it!
