I'm usually pretty sparing with my burger toppings (just tomato and pickle most of the time) so there's nowhere to hide a hammered patty or soggy bun. I've eaten at this location and the one in Cap Hill and both are consistently satisfying. Produce is fresh, bun is soft and lightly buttered, burger has good, healthy beef flavor (if you know, you know). The patties are on the thinner side so if you like to have to unhinge your jaw for a bite or if a true rare/medium rare is a must, this isn't gonna do it. I generally order medium rare at restaurants and have no problem with the meat here. The Illegal Fries are also worth a mention. They're seasoned waffle fries. Crispy, flavorful, not too greasy. It's not the cheapest, but it's really easy to mess up something as simple and ubiquitous as a hamburger. If you've got a craving, Illegal Burger will hit the spot. read more

I really had to debate whether I should give this place 2 or 3 stars because my first experience of 2 with the restaurant was fine. I've never actually been inside but I have ordered twice online for delivery. The first time it was awesome & everything was great! I don't remember which burger I got but I also had fries and I love their spicy ketchup! This time I decided to try the turkey burger. Bad idea! The patty was thin and tasted like cardboard. No flavor. I was starving so I drenched it in the spicy ketchup which helped get me though 1/3 of the burger but then I realized it was actually just pretty nasty. Very tasty burgers, a bit expensive ($35 for two people with sides/sodas). Very much a gourmet spot. Enough food in a single serving that you could possibly even split a burger and fries as the portions are so massive. Definitely not someplace to go if you are counting calories. Pretty good. I ordered through the Eat24 app and didn't receive all of my items but they were quick to resolve the issue. The fried Mac and cheese was ok, wish it was a little cheesier. Went to Illegal Burger for lunch today. We were greeted and served by the same girl who was friendly and she did wipe tables as people left (as they should during Covid) which I appreciated seeing. I ordered the #5 called the slinger and the fries with chipotle mayo sauce. Everything was delicious!! I enjoyed the bbq sauce they use for the burger, the fries were crispy and flavorful, the bun was soft but not soggy.. would definitely eat here again on my next visit. read more
