After a brisk walk through the city, my girlfriend and I were craving a good burger. On vacation and relying solely on Yelp for guidance we were not disappointed when it led us to Illegal. Being an onion ring aficionado I was intrigued to see "onion petals" on the menu. I ordered them hoping they came with a sauce and once again I was not disappointed, tangy creamy goodness for my dipping pleasure. I inhaled the petals and kept getting yelled at for eating them too fast. Fries were thin and crispy so I stole whatever I could from my girlfriend. The burger was great and cooked medium like I wanted. I would recommend this place to anybody craving a solid burger on a cold day. read more

First time in Denver and this was our first stop after a day of flying and checking in the hotel. Great service and food! I had a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon and avocado! Great place. Had a big group and were served with a smile. Woman st the register was very patient as she gave each member of the youth group I had with me information multiple times. Came here today with my husband and must say we enjoyed this place way more than we had anticipated. The food was great (loved it!!) , but what really made this a memorable stop on our trip to Denver was the personnel. The young man helping us was such a gem. He was funny and made us feel like a long time friend. When we told him it was our first time there, he walked us through the menu and made sure we got exactly what we were craving. Do not order this delivery or through GrubHub. It took an hour and a half to finally arrive and then the delivery guy showed up on a bike and it was snowing, the food was trash and cold. Then they refused to refund the order. Who sends a delivery guy out in freezing rain/snow and then doesn't stand by their quality when the food is ice cold? read more

Needed a bitd before we were about to go home, went down the fampus Larimer Street and came upon this place. Had a dark eating area with a weird layout, we prdered and sat down. Metal chairs and tables, the place seemed clean and well kept. With the food coming out, the burgers were.... good! However the fries were the best part. Got the truffle fries and they were amazing. This burger spot is good for a quick bite to eat if your starving and do not have time to get to a another eatery. I ordered the turkey burger which is a dollar more.. doesn't make much sense but it seemed to be a frozen patty. Tasted ok but disappointed it was a little dry and flat. Great atmosphere. The staff takes a lot of pride in what they do, they have great selection of burgers and alternative meat choices. Daily specials for all beverages and shakes. Their fries are delicious and the burgers are so good they should be "ILLEGAL!" Haha. So good we went there twice in the short time we visited Denver. They need to get more of these nationwide! The vegan option was clearly labeled on the menu, a decent black bean burger prepared with lots of veggie toppings like avocados and sprouts... I only gave it four stars because my tomato was hard in the middle (hate that). They were more than happy to substitute the "cheese tots" out of our fry basket with a different kind of fry. Vegetarian eaters can safely steer clear of illegal burger. The black bean burger is disc-shaped and appears to be a frozen pre-made affair. Even by those standards it was not great. The waffle fries were okay, but could have been crispier. To be fair, this place just opened and also probably isn't catering specifically to the vegetarian crowd. Stopped in for a quick bite. When I walked in the door I was hit with the smell of mildew. The old building could be the reason for this. I ordered the build your own burger, illegal fries and a soda. The burger was cooked perfectly. A little messy, but that's to be expected. Fries were awesome... best part of the meal. They are seasoned waffle fries served with a side of their house sauce. I was a bit taken aback by the $15 price though. Seemed steep for a burger, fries and drink.
