Famous Chicago Burger, mushrooms and fries
    Patti L.

Delicious burger. It's huge and filling. We only ate half of the burger. The burger had grilled onions and pickles. We did a carry out so the mushrooms and fries were soggy. Mushrooms were ok but the fries better fresh. The burger was cooked medium but they do not ask how you want it cooked. Normally they ask how you would like it cooked. Mine was cooked medium but my bf's was more medium rare. But not too bad. Next time we will make sure when we have burgers to ask for well done. Now the cost. The cost for the food is acceptable but they nickel and dime you. There's a service fee of $1.50 and a container fee for $.25/ea. The containers are styrofoam. The fries and mushrooms come in containers. There is also a cc fee so we paid cash. Other than the additional charges, the food is good. Next time we will try dine in.

Great place! The bartender is amazing! She hands me my drinks as I'm walking in! This is my after work stop every Friday. The burgers are amazing and the hot dogs are just as good

I love this little spot. Good food and drinks. The staff are so nice, always have a friendly conversation when I sit at the bar. When I sit at the booth, they always ask if I'm good and would I like anything else. I love the service when they are attentive to their patrons. I had this humongous burger, and my brother opted to try the fish sandwich. By the way, they have fresh cut fries.... my favorite. I could not eat all of that food in one sitting. It's enough to have leftovers for lunch. The fish sandwich was not that bad, only because I did not favor that type of fish. But all in all I had a good time. Feed the juke box, play a game of pool or darts, or just simply watch a sports game. My go-to spot when I pick up family from the Midway Airport.

Great experience always, excellent service. Took my daughter and she loved the burger, and every time I work in that neighborhood I stop in for one of the best burgers in Chicago! If you like trying great burgers, don't miss this one.

I've been wanting to come here for a while now after I've seen how delicious the burgers looked. I finally made my way down here're and they didn't disappoint. The inside has a very old school feel to it with great customer service. There was maybe another table being occupied other than us so it wasn't a busy midweek day for them. I ordered their bacon cheeseburger while my wife ordered the Famous Chicago burger. The burger was very inexpensive at $6.95 while their bacon burger moved up a whopping three dollars. I've never been a fan of e regular bacon on cheese burgers but all the pictures looked so good with bacon so I decided to order it. An additional three dollars for the bacon is a bit much if you ask me and not worth the extra price as the burgers by itself was just fine. I would definitely be returning and would definitely be ordering their famous Chicago burgers without bacon. The burger itself was huge, and charred to perfection. Put some cheese and ketchup on that bad boy and that's all you need! No other gourmet ingredients needed! The fries were also tasty and tasted fresh. None of that frozen cap. This is gem in the south side and is a must try.

My husband and I came here for some drinks and dinner. We've been here before at the early stages of our relationships before Covid hit. He ordered the Chicago burger with cheese, I did the chicken wings with hot sauce, a polish, and we shared a basket of fries. Everything was affordable, it's definitely not your average hole in the wall spot, and I love that they had the olympics on television. They also serve pitchers of beer, our bartender was very attentive, and the chef personally brought us our food.

Very good restaurant when you're trying to get something quick in Chicago. I was looking for a nice juicy burger and in that area they didn't disappoint. The fries I didn't care for. But they have affordable drinks and cheap food. The establishment is small but very intimate to the customers.

The most remarkable thing about the Chicago burger is its size -13 oz. pre-cooked, I am told. Adding bacon, cheese, and various vegetables and condiments make this a mouthful. While not bad, I would have sacrificed quality for quantity. The bacon was a bit undercooked and the burger lacked flavor. Still, I nice neighborhood dive to hang out in and enjoy a beer.

Omg. My new favorite place! I've been here several times and the waitress / bartender is the sweetest. She makes the best long Islands and has great people skills! Now the food, the burgers are amazing! Onion rings are the bomb! Prices are unbeatable!

I've attempted the place twice and so glad I came back! I'm a visual eater and when I crave food I browse my bookmarks and choose from the pics. Which led me back here! Place is def a no thrills local bar with great food. I had the bacon burger & fresh cut fries. The burger is a double and man it's huge! I only ate half. I do think it's a bit pricey. It was $9.70 by itself, but it was worth it I guess. Lol The waitress was very nice. I'm surprised by the reviews of bad service, but I guess places have off days. I'll be back that's for damn sure!!!!

Amazing burgers, and such a great place to have a lunch. I take clients and co-workers here a lot. The bar tender is always super friendly

    Big, meaty, but tasteless wings

Let me start off by saying I want to like this place. One night after dropping off someone @ MDW I told myself "let's try this place for a bacon cheeseburger and wings". So that is what I ordered. The burger and the wings are HUGE! Both very meaty. Your stomach will be filled with either and they cook it to perfection... ...and that's it. No seasoning, no flavor, no salt, no pepper. Nothing. Therefore, both had no taste. The bacon is the best on the south side. Maybe I should try the BLT next time? Why can't I get fries with anything??? Did you REALLY charge me 25 cents for a "to-go" order??? A roomy, southwest bar in Archer Heights with pool tables and a killer jukebox. The place could use a makeover though. So much so that they still have a pay phone in the place...and it works!!!

I had the single cheeseburger and it lived up to the hype. I learned that the single burger is actually a double and the double is actually a triple. I was recommended to add an egg and bacon to the burger and I'm glad I did. Each bite was a glorious burst of flavor. The bacon is epic. Thick juicy slices. The cheeseburger was perfect. I didn't need additional condiments and that never happens for me. The fries were good too and came with a delicious aioli. For beverages, I loved my Arnold Palmer. I also tried a cocktail--the Long Island Iced Coffee. It was pretty strong. I added a shot of bourbon cream to it and that sweetened it up and made it perfect for me. Unfortunately, I didn't have room for dessert. Cute restaurant. Cozy inside. They have an outdoor patio as well. If you don't have a reservation, be prepared to wait. Excellent food. Excellent service. Jennifer took great care of me and made great suggestions. It's pricy but it's worth it.

I planned to dine at Au Cheval for Sunday lunch and unfortunately there weren't any reservations available on Resy for lunchtime when I checked. Of note, Resy charges $2.50 per person to book the reservation which does not go towards the bill. After looping around for parking and finding a metered spot, I checked in at the restaurant shortly after 11:30am and was told I was 28th in line and the host could not quote a wait time due to the inclusion of online reservations. I thought that was a bit odd so I ended up walking around to explore the surrounding businesses. I finally received a text that my table was ready around thirty minutes later. The restaurant itself is not big but gives off an old fashioned vibe which I guess correlated with the type of food served. I ordered a single cheeseburger, a side of thick cut peppered bacon, and a side of French fries. I figured it was more economical to order a side of bacon rather than adding it to my burger so I can eat as much or as little as I wanted. The food came around fifteen minutes later. The burger itself did not look as big on the plate as I expected, although it was apparent how thick the two hamburger patties were. Since everyone was raving about the burger I had high expectations which unfortunately were not met. The burger tasted like a burger found at any average diner across the country. The bacon pieces were thick and flavorful but I don't think they elevated the burger as much as I'd like. Also, I wished there were cheese options rather than offering only American cheese which is probably the cheapest cheese that can be added on a burger. The fries reminded me of In-N-Out fries but the fries at the bottom of the cup were way too salty as if all the salt was added to the bottom of the cup instead of trickling down after being sprinkled on the fries on top. Considering all the hype about Au Cheval and the claims that their cheeseburger is one of the best burgers in the country or world, I was very underwhelmed. If this burger were to represent the Chicago food scene on a national level, it should rank lower than several other major cities in the United States.
