I went to Jiffy Lube for an oil change...they said my battery was showing in the "Red" defective range of their tester. I asked how much to replace it ...they said $225. plus tax. After getting my oil changed...I headed to Illinois Battery. The guy tested the battery and said it was still slightly in the "Green" range. He said my battery was very old but it could still work for a while. It was August and winter was coming and I decided to not take a chance in the winter so I had it replaced. The worker made sure to hook it to a temporary battery while making the switch. When you disconnect a battery from a car ...the loss of battery power...can mess with the cars' computer. The temporary battery makes sure this does not happen. The new battery that was installed cost $125. plus tax....so I saved a hundred dollars. It works fine with no issues from my newer car computer system. Honest business with great batteries with a 5 year warranty. Jiffy Lube said their battery has a two year warranty. Third time's a charm. After two unsuccessful trips to get my battery changed, I went to Illinois Battery upon recommendation of my neighbor. The dude who checked out my battery and eventually changed it was a pleasure. He was efficient and friendly, chatting me up while going to work . He was also honest, testing my battery first to see if it could be charged first and potentially save me some money. But in the end we felt it was just best to change the battery and be done with it. This is an old school place with fair prices and top notch service. Sure, there might be the faint smell of a cigarette or two but you can't beat the service you get for the price...or the sweet shrine to the 1985 Chicago Bears. After all the good reviews I read about this place I decided to try them out a few weeks ago. Although it took me forever to get there, almost an hour, not only because of wall to wall traffic but because it's so far west from where i was coming I finally made it just before closing. There was no waiting and it was over and done within 15 minutes. They knew exactly what to do and i didn't have to get a new battery hold like initially thought. What a gem! My boss referred me to Illinois Battery and he told me it was old school. He wasn't kidding! Prices are great, the service is outstanding and they are quick! I was outta there in less than an hour with my brand new car battery installed. The Technician even gave me what he called the "Sears Corrosion Protection Package" aka a spray applied to the battery terminals that their competitors will charge you $20 + for! I highly recommend these guys! P.S. They will offer you a calendar (a nice one with pictures of our lovely city), at least they did for me back in January. If you ask for it, they also have a "secret" sexy calendar. My boss dared me to ask for one, so I did. I think the dude at Illinois Battery was a little embarrassed but it was hilarious! This place is about a mile away from my home, and I'd always pass it wondering what they did. When my battery light on my car lit up this week, I figured it was time to find out. I rolled up. They tested my car and found out that my alternator was toast. I rolled out less then five minutes later. I'm going to my favorite auto-repair shop (Ashland Tire & Auto) to get my alternator replaced. But if it turns out that my battery needs replacing too, I'm headed right back to Illinois battery. Recommend this place highly. They got me in after 5PM on a Friday! Not only that, but they tested the battery and alternator to tell me which was going to hades... Turned out it was the battery and they had the old one out and the new one in quicker than greased lightning. While it may cost a little more than going to the nearest chain store (it did in my case), this place is totally worth it. They are a local operation that manufactures their own batteries... so you are supporting a Chicago institution while stimulating the local economy as well. These guys being local also means that they are willing to go further for your patronage than some faceless chain... and I dunno about you, but I think that is worth the possible extra cost. well, I used to go there all the time - then I heard they don't make their own batteries anymore. I went recently in an emergency. The service was prompt but the place is bigger dump than it used to be and they were not very professional. Hard to say who made the battery or what the quality is now but they used to have a very good reputation! They slapped a sticker on what looks like a generic manufactured battery! The sticker said "NATIONAL" . I asked about that and he just said he didn't have any Illinois stickers left! That doesn't inspire confidence ............but I'll see! read more

I have never purchased a battery from Illinois Battery, however I did go to Illinois Battery yesterday (Saturday). My truck would not start earlier in the week so I thought my battery was going dead (5 year old original battery). I called Illinois Battery on Saturday to confirm they had my battery in stock, in less than 3 minutes they looked it up to confirm it was instock, told me the price, and confirmed their hours for the rest of the day. After driving to Illinois Battery, I pulled into the side gate, they put a tester to confirm my alternator was putting out the right voltage. The serviceman from Illinois Battery asked me to shut off the truck, then he used the same tester to check what load my battery would take. He indicated my battery was fine and to spend my money on something else. Illinois Battery really is old school, which I probably why Illinois Battery saved me over $80.00 because their representative was honest in letting me know I didn't need a new battery. I will be returning to Illinois Battery when my battery does need to be replaced. Give Illinois Battery a try, you will not be disappointed. read more
