I've been dealing with Illinois Battery for more than 25 years - but not that frequently. This is one of the reasons: I bought four six volt batteries for my boat (wired for 12 volt system). They worked fine year after year for so many years I could no longer remember when I bought them. Even 'though the still worked fine, I felt I ought to replace them just on principle. So I took them back a few weeks ago and asked them to determine when I bought them (the markings were too worn for me to make them out). They told me I bought them in 2008 - ten years ago. Cheaper than the dealer and even the auto parts stores in the area. Use to go to their business when it was on Irving Pk Rd. Got a 600CCA battery for a good price. However, had a long wait that day due to nobody showed up for work to install and had to wait with only one person ahead of me. Kind of frustrating, but I left off a star for the long wait. Friendly owner Jim took care of me and the battery installer was very kind and cool! They do need to have battery corrosion grease on hand to apply to the terminals. No more in stock. Had to apply some myself after I left. The white particles will build up if it is not used. C'mon guys, this is your business! read more

I've been getting my batteries from here for almost 20 years. Old location and new. Now that I think of it, I've only gotten a few because I can get at least 5 years out of one . I had an issue with one that lasted 2.5 years or so but conked out during that brutal heatwave we had a few years ago when it was sweltering for months. Heat destroys batteries so it didn't surprise me. Went back and had the necessary paperwork saved in my glovebox to get the prorated price. That battery is still going strong. I used Illinois Battery for the second time this week. They are fast, less expensive than chains, warranty their products and will not try and sell you anything you don't need. What else do you need? I'll add this too. They are and old school local business that does business and treats their customers the way it used (and should) be done. Contacted Sears, they wanted $60.00 to check the power of the battery I purchased from them in 09. They quoted me $190.00 for a new battery plus $45.00 to install the battery in my back seat (difficult Labor). Contacted Illinois Battery Specialists, based upon the reviews, they are truly old school - my battery was tested, no charge, new battery installed in ten minutes. Total cost for new battery, removal, installation and altenator check, $96.00. I drive a 13 year old car. I live in a neighborhood where a lot of the small repair shops have closed and the remaining ones are often jammed up. Can't even get in for an oil change. Forget it if you have a serious problem in bad weather. So my battery died in the January 2017 cold spell. When the weather warmed up, a friend jump started me. I ran across this review site later and drove over to get a battery test. It was a week day and they took me right in, checked the battery, and installed a new one; 20 minutes start to finish. We arrived and were immediately told to pull into their garage space off the back of the store. A very friendly mechanic hooked up our battery, tested it, discovered it indeed was kaput, and told us what we needed. We went up front, paid, and were out of there in 15 minutes all for $82 for a very high capacity unit, professionally installed with a lot of friendliness. I buy batteries for all 3 of my cars, every 36 months, all at once. last bunch I bought, had trouble with every damn battery. not happy. did some investigating and found out from my mechanic, and mechanic friends that Illinois Battery's game has changed and that their products are wholly undependable. I would like to state how happy I am with the service I recieved from Illionis Battery. I don't know much about cars, but enough to know something wasn't right. My father-in-law suggested I probably needed a new battery and I was on my way to Sears to buy one when recommend I go here. Right away they were very professional and courtesy. Once they looked over my car, it turns out I didn't need a battery, I just need my belts tighen....and then they also clean my "conntector" (I think that's what they called them)... Ok, 10 Great Rivews! I had to give this place a try. I called the car dealership and was quoted a price of $ 162.00 to replace my battery - labor and parts. Service should take 45 minutes. I have been driving by Illinois Battery since high school so I gave them a call. 1/2 the price and was out of there in 15 minutes. The attitude and thoughtfulness of the employees was greatly appreciated. They back their work with a great warranty. I was actually excited about getting a new battery in Feb. in Chicago! Pulled in, they hooked up the tester, confirmed that my battery was bad, sent me in to pay (about ninety bucks) while they installed it. I was in and out in 10 minutes or so. Fast, friendly, reasonably priced with a 5-year warranty. Plus, they had WBEZ playing jazz over their garage sound system. i can't think of any reason to criticize these guys, but I save the 5-star ratings for when I'm blown away. read more

With everyone giving this place a Great Rating, I decided to go here to get a Battery for my Scooter! The price was Great, $49.00! They supposedly fully charged the Battery before I left! I get home to install it and all I got was a "Clicking Noise! I went to the Scooter Dealer I go to for all my Maintenance and they told me the Battery wasn't fully Charged? One of the few honest auto repair shops in town. Granted, they mainly just do batteries, but if that's what you need, this is the place to go. Great staff, super fast, 100% honest, and a warranty they will honor no questions asked. The prices went up a bit since they moved across the street, but it's still the best deal in town for a battery. And if your starter is the problem, they'll tell you that for free. I bought my battery from them last summer. They were very kind and the battery was reasonably priced. The installation of the battery was also very quick. I was satisfied with the service but today they proved worthy of a five stat rating from me. Recently I had been having problems. My stereo would randomly shut off then go back on then my gauges started doing the same. I figured it was some kind of connection issue with my battery so I took it back to these guys. Turns out my battery was loose and they fixed me up in half an hour. The best part is that they didn't charge me! Considering I got my battery a year ago, it may very well not be their fault that it came loose. I was expecting to pay something for them fixing the problem but was very satisfied to find out that they did it for free. Great customer service and excellent warranties on their batteries. Waste of time, money, and gas. Dead batteries are sold here and not even tested prior to selling. After returning with dead battery for exchange I was given a battery that tested okay however does not have enough juice to crank the engine. Take it to AUTOZONE to test or charge and another BAD battery. Bring that one back and guy is like "What do what me to do?" Just bad customer service in this dingy place.
