Complaint Against LaserAway for Unethical Business Practices and Unauthorized Charge On October 25, 2025, I had a scheduled 11:00 a.m. laser hair removal appointment at LaserAway. I arrived on time, was checked in by the receptionist, and taken to a treatment room. Before the procedure began, a nurse practitioner joined by video to review my health history. When I disclosed that I have cataracts, she immediately ended the call and said I was not a candidate for treatment. I left the facility around 11:15 a.m. without receiving any service. Before booking, I had a detailed phone conversation with an intake representative who strongly encouraged me to proceed. I fully discussed my health history, yet was never told cataracts would prevent treatment. Afterward, I reviewed their policies and found no mention of cataracts as a restriction. Despite being denied service, my card was charged $249.00 later that same day (around 1:15 p.m.). I have called multiple times to request a refund but have been repeatedly transferred or ignored with no resolution. I believe this constitutes unfair and deceptive business practices. The company continues to charge customers for services they do not perform and fails to provide clear medical exclusions in advance. I respectfully request a refund of $249.00 and I think the Better Business Bureau should review LaserAway's policies and billing practices to prevent similar incidents for other consumers. read more

Average experience with laser hair removal here. This was not my first rodeo with laser hair removal, so I had some idea of what to expect going in. Prior to LaserAway, I had gone to a walk-up shop (twinned with a lash lounge location) that mysteriously closed, leaving me with one remaining session in my package. Once the dust had settled on that experience, I decided to go with Laser Away for my hair removal needs and ended up booking sessions (leg touch-up and full package for underarms). The good: I felt that the pricing was reasonable, especially for the full package, and the location was convenient, allowing me to keep up with my appointments, and not bail. The nurses were efficient and personable. The bad: When going online to cancel/reschedule an appointment, I would immediately get several calls on my cell from a California phone number, which I am surmising is their headquarters/central booking. This seemed both invasive and unnecessary. The puzzling: It's weird that I wasn't able to go in for an in-person consultation before I went ahead with my package of services. Once I agreed to the package, my credit card was immediately charged. They were also somewhat pushy about wanting me to tack on extra services when I was laser focused (pun intended!) on what I wanted done. In short, I know that it is only a matter of time until I need a touch up appointment, but I will most likely be going to a cosmetic surgery practice to have this procedure done, as I feel like the results would be longer lasting and have less of a conveyor belt vibe. read more

Today, I received exceptional assistance from RN Sarah, and I deeply appreciated her help. I had gone in for Thermage and Botox treatments, but I was unaware of how painful Thermage for the neck could be. I was in tears and even screaming occasionally, but Sarah kept encouraging me and helped me to get all the necessary shots. I asked her to push me to the max, lol. Despite some pain, I was determined to make the most of the session. Although I have had good experiences with other RNs in the past here, I really loved Sarah who provided exceptional assistance. Absolutely terrible experience - zero consideration for the time and investment of its customers and terrible customers experience in trying to resolve the issue... After wait times were consistently irregular for scheduled appointments (often waiting 5 - 15 mins to be seen), I was made to wait for more than AN HOUR past my appt time during my last session. During this time, the team didn't have the consideration to let me know they were running late but instead, when asked, just kept telling me that it should be soon. When I had finally had enough, they told me that the appt time had been changed without my knowledge, and that they were ONLY running 45 mins behind. After an initial conversation to Jordan, the manager, they completely refused to address the issue or even have a conversation with me. Would HIGHLY consider rethinking a different location or provider if you're going to be investing in any treatment with them because they don't seem to be able to deliver on their commitment in a respectful manner. read more

I finished all of my treatments and I would say that out of all the areas I got done my legs were a disappointment because they still look the same. I guess my hair was too thin for the laser (I normally get them waxed). It's upsetting because I paid a lot for these treatments. They tried getting me to sign up for another package to treat my legs as a "touch up" but all my hair is still there, not sure how it's considered a touch up. I am not going to throw my money away again, I'll just go back to waxing. Also it was a hit or miss on who did my treatments. I'm not sure if we are suppose to communicate what level to put the laser on or they're suppose to know. Stay away! I had an ingrown hair that became infected. I contacted LaserAway to alert them of my medical issue and to stop my payments. I called this facility as well and they were very difficult to communicate with from not returning my calls to saying "we'll put a ticket in for you" and weeks later I'm still making payments for services I'm not getting. Went to LaserAway Naperville. They have a rotating group of nurses and front staff minimal to no continuity. I had sensitivity issues for the lip and chin area and was told that I could come back for treatment on another day. however, this was never honored and they claimed that once i do part of the face, it counts as a single session. I spent many attempts at reaching out to their customer service liason Brian Dickerson who was both inept and inconsiderate with the management of this issue. I requested a video consultation for laser tattoo removal just to get some info and get a feeling for what pricing looked like after seeing an ad for discounted pricing on Instagram. I joined the video call that was sent in the confirmation email and waited for 15-20 minutes but no one joined. I finally got a call from Jared about 20 minutes past and he asked if anyone had called me yet. Do they not keep track of this or schedule ahead of time? He had me send him a photo of my tattoos via text, then immediately said it was take 10 sessions. He went on to answer a couple questions and then provided pricing. He first told me it would cost $189 per month for 18 months and treatments would be every 8 weeks. He immediately sent me a credit application for $3400. I said thank you and I would think about it and get to him as I had requested the consultation only to gather more info since I've never looked too far into it. He immediately got hostile and said I would never find better pricing anywhere and that anywhere else they would probably burn me or leave a scar. He asked what he had to say or do to get me to apply right then and there. He seemed annoyed that I still wanted to wait and said he could offer me a discount at $153 per month for 18 months. That is still $2,754. I said either way I would have said I'd have to think about it since 10 sessions every 8 weeks is a commitment. This guy was practically begging me to sign up for the credit application and pay at that exact moment. This whole call lasted only 9 minutes but it was evident this company is a giant scam. I signed up for a laser treatment package here. I used to get waxes (hard wax and sugaring) and let me tell you this is NOTHING close to the pain. I literally cannot really feel the laser. They are all very professional, it's clean, and I feel like I am truly seeing results (I just had my second treatment today). Unfortunately, I had the worst experience at the River North Chicago location. I have paid thousands of dollars for services and products and it has been well worth it. My problem is with the poor customer service at this location. I took months off from treatments because I had knee replacement surgery. I was so excited to return. During my first return visit, I noticed that the reception staff had changed. No big deal - so I thought. After my amazing treatment, I purchased a travel kit and more treatments. Things were great. Well, when I was packing for my trip, I unboxed all of my new products. The serum C bottle was broken. No matter how I turned it the top would not open. No biggie. I called to let them know and someone told me "no problem' and to bring it back. I told them that I would simply bring back when I returned for the second set of treatments that I purchased. Weeks later, I bounced into LaserAway to check in and attempted to give the non-working product back for an exchange. Not only did the receptionist not even bother to reach for it, she questioned me on who I talked to and continued to tell me that they do not take products back. I kindly stated that I purchased this and as she could clearly see that the bottle was full and would not open. She was dismissive and said that I would need to call the Manager. There was nothing that she could do. Absolutely stupid! I had my treatment and left. On my way out, the receptionists had a good laugh OUT LOUD at my expense. I called the Manager Monday. She was not working that day - even though I was told to call her on Monday. I called customer service. They transferred me back to the location. One of the rude receptionist answered "yeah, what can I do for you". I explained AGAIN. The receptionist then told me said to call back the next day. I told her to have the Manager to call me. I AM THE CUSTOMER! She stated that she would leave a message on her desk. After nearly two weeks, no return call. I called customer service for the second time. I, for the 4th time, explained the situation. I was assured that the call would be escalated and that I would receive a call back. Nothing! This is EXTREMELY disappointing. I will be cancelling all treatments at this location and will be disputing the charge for the kit with the product that cannot be opened. Poor customer service! This was a great experience! It started off with a Zoom call with Kelly F. who was able to recommend the perfect set of facials for me to do by seeing my face on the webcam. I decided to buy a package of clear + brilliant facials and had my first appointment this week at the River North location. The staff was very kind and welcoming. A nurse performs the laser facial facials due to the type of treatment it is. The nurse who performed my facial was gentle and kept my distracted by talking to me during the facial. THIS IS THE WORST PLACE EVER!!!! And iv'e never even walked into the store!!!! I began to sign up for more information regarding pricing, and quickly realized I would need to set up a consult call. Because of this, I quit the sign up without hitting submit. Later that day, I received a call from a young man (i'm assuming he works at the front desk) asking when I would like to schedule my consult call. I politely told him that I would not like to set up a call, as I read a few reviews and could not pay for the service at this time. I expected a typical customer service response such as no worries please call us back if you change your mind in the future. But this was genuinely the RUDEST person I have ever spoken to over the phone. He was almost getting mad at me that I could not afford it and was being extremely passive aggressive, almost talking to me as if I were 12. I have worked in the customer industry myself, and if my boss ever heard me speaking to a customer this was I would have been fired immediately. Later that day, I receive a text confirming my 6:15 PM consult call for the next day. I was extremely confused because I nicely told the man that I would not like to set up a call. I tried to decline the confirmation on the google calendar. A few hours later, I receive a call from the same man to confirm this consult call. I then told him that I had spoke with him earlier, and had said I would not like to set up a call and was extremely confused when I got this calendar message. He followed this (again in the rudest way possible) with "well then how would that be showing up on my end sweetie you must have scheduled this". After a while, I felt as though he was trying to pick a FIGHT with me after telling him multiple times that I could not afford the service, never set up this appointment that had miraculously been scheduled, and that I would NOT like to make an appointment. I just completed my sixth session at LaserAway River North and first Instant Glow Facial. I'm loving the results and the team is excellent. Each Nurse has been great and takes extra care to make sure I'm comfortable throughout the service. I have sensitive skin and shaving is sometimes difficult. I believe these appointments have really helped improve my skin overall. I also really loved the results of the Instant Glow Facial. It's been the most uncomfortable session since cold air isn't done until after the laser (versus same time on other areas I've had done) but again, my Nurse was great to communicate and check in throughout the session. I have two more regular sessions left but I definitely see myself coming back for facials again. Highly recommend! read more
