Gyoza
Ipsita D.

I've ordered from here in the past (been a few years) and thought I'd try it out again tonight. The special sushi roll I got (Sakura & Hanami roll) was really tasty--spicy tuna, spicy lobster, shrimp tempura, mango & avocado wrapped in soybean nori. Good flavors & substantial. I forgot to take a pic since I dug right in & devoured it pretty fast! I also got the shumai (a bit soggy but pretty good/standard) and gyoza (somewhat more oily than I like, but decent).

Came here on a friend's recommendation and was pleasantly surprised! The sushi is quite fresh, the staff mentioned the fish is flown in directly from Tokyo every day. We had the Bad Girl Sushi Roll, which was a delicious combination of spicy salmon, jalapeño, and avocado. The house fried rice is also quite good, I would recommend taking one of the seafood options like lobster or scallop. Service is quick although not particularly attentive. While it is not comparable to some of the top quality spots in Manhattan, Illuzion is nevertheless a good choice if you're craving sushi in Hoboken.

Sushi and Sashimi Combo for 2 Entree

Had dinner with friends here this week. Some of the best sushi I've ever had! Creative and delicious, the sushi and rolls were perfectly made. The staff were very friendly and attentive during our entire visit. The space was inviting and clean. Illusion is a "must visit" for sushi in Hoboken.

Best miso soup I have ever had. The location is closed from 3 pm to 4 pm every day. Everything else on the menu is good and they have a very expansive sushi menu to choose from.

This is the best affordable sushi/sashimi in town for me. Sushi/sashimi are good and they have lots of hot 'kitchen options' too. I usually come for a lunch special, service is swift and friendly. The decor inside is sleek and modern and their outside terraces are great for people watching. The food is very consistent and reliable.

I simply cannot wrap my head around a 3.5 star yelp rating (at the time when I'm writing this review) - this place and its owners definitely deserve a lot more. The service we have received here is absolutely unforgettable. No other restaurant has ever treated us like the staff of Illusion does. Hence we are a frequent customer here. Now to the food quality - me and my wife are sushi lovers and this place has hands down the best taste and quality we have ever encountered. Just look at the pictures. Anyways, this is the place I can't miss a chance to show to my friends whenever they visit NYC. 100000% recommend.

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE! My wife and I ordered the maki lunch special which was quoted on their website as $12. When the food came we were surprised to find out that we were charged $16.50 per special as they have changed their menu. When we called to ask for a refund of the difference we were bluntly told that "you should of looked on our Instagram or Facebook as we don't use the website anymore". HOW IS ANYONE SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT! If your website is not going to show correct prices take the website down! When we pushed further they said the only options were to accept the charges or have them come back and take back their food. Until they can get down to 1 consistent price and own up to their wrong pricing to their customers, I highly suggest staying away.

Chicken Katsua after initial attacks from hungry kiddos

I forgot how much we loved this place. We gobbled down the rock shrimp. The eldest was happy as a clam in with the Chicken Katsua...I loved my salmon skin and eel avocado rolls ...

Average food, mediocre service, not dying to go back My brother and I ordered a whole bunch of appetizers & desserts, in addition to ramen. Food was nicely presented & decorated, likely to hide its mediocre flavor from you. Ramen was essentially flavorless...and very disappointing for a Jap restaurant. Nothing really stood out to me except for the food presentation. SERVICE: Slow, inefficient, took a long time for some dishes to come out (indoor dining)

We love Illuzion! It's one of our favorite sushi restaurants in Hoboken and trust me - we've tried them all. The fish is always fresh and melts in your mouth. The service is prompt and pleasant. The BYOB is always a bonus as with most Hoboken restaurants and their location on Washington Street can't be beat! Great outdoor seating in the summer time and they always make sure our pup has a bowl of water to keep him hydrated while we chow down! The manager remembers us and we always get a warm welcome every time we go. Our kids love to watch the chefs at work at their cool sushi bar. We always get the Tricolor Avocado Special Entree which consists of the King Salmon Avocado Roll, Tuna Avocado Roll and the Yellowtail Avocado Roll. And the Spicy Bad Girl and the Fallen Angel Chef Special Rolls are favorites with our kids. The entrees all come with a soup or salad on the side which is a great touch! Highly recommend!

Definitely the best sushi in Hoboken! Have been there three times now and it is always so fresh and delicious. Love the specialty rolls but can't recommend the sashimi and sushi more!

Saka has a solid offer of Any 3 Rolls for ~$20. Their selection of rolls is more limiting than other places; would love if they had yellowtail or scallop as options at lunch. Nonetheless, the rolls I got were solid! The fish was fresh and the portion was great, the rice layer wasn't thick at all which is a big factor for me, and to my surprise, it came with both a miso soup & salad. The miso soup was pretty flavorful compared to others I've had and the salad came with a sesame dressing that was so refreshing with the crisp salad. I should've kept my order at that as the Crispy Spicy Salmon wasn't worth it. The crispy rice was slightly too hard/over-fried and the portion of spicy salmon was so tiny. The rice layer should be fully topped with salmon, unlike what they gave. It didn't taste half bad but I'd probably skip it next time. If you order for delivery, their insulated packaging is great for transport and temperature control. Solid try!

We chose the salmon avocado, spicy tuna, and Philadelphia rolls. And we got it with the salad. The salad dressing was amazing, definitely up there with the best of the Japanese salad dressings. The rolls were great as well. Very stuffed with not too much rice and tasted very fresh. The spicy tuna maki was a little spicy for me but not anything crazy. We also got crab rangoons and those were also fantastic. Also very stuffed and sweet. And the sauce they came with was a little spicy, very good too. Overall, very impressed with our first dine out in Hoboken. We will definitely be back.

Saku is attractive in a strange Two-Face kind of way, where one room is all pink sakura lightness…read moreand being, while the other room (where we were seated) is all dark, depressing velvet underground melancholy. The menu kind of reflects this struggle too, as it can't seem to decide if it wants to offer more traditional Japanese sushi-ya fare or something more innovative. As a result, we kind of wound up with the middling middle with our choice of 4 specialty rolls: 1) Saku: Probably the best and most traditional of our rolls with salmon and avocado inside, and ponzu, chives and crispy shallots on the outside. 2) Lobster: Not enough lobster salad inside to justify the overuse of miso-yuzu mayo, and just a whole ton of filler nonsense going on outside wrapped in pink soy paper. 3) Drop It Like Its Hot: Not spicy enough to justify the cute name. This should've been an easy slam dunk in flavor, but everything felt kind of bland and flat. Maybe due to the lack of nori. 4) Crunch Drunk Love: Lots of fish, but again, not enough flavor. We also got the Edamame with Spicy Miso Butter, which was just OK--the butter was weirdly sour. I wouldn't order it again. In fact, I....wouldn't really order anything here again.

I'm not the biggest fan of cream cheese in my roll so my least favorite was the Philadelphia roll. I ordered a peach iced tea. The service was great and attentive. When we walked in without a reservation we were able to be seated right away as it wasn't busy. As we started to eat our rolls, the restaurant did get busier with time. Dates and families coming in for their dinner. I have to be honest and say the shrimp shumai wasn't all that special but overall the presentation of the sushi and taste was pretty good. The shumai tasted okay to me, I have had better elsewhere and they looked different. They were tiny. All in all, I would come back and recommend this restaurant to sushi lovers. 10/10 restaurant recommendation.

They both tasted good but honestly fell a bit flat with the taste. The coconut shrimp roll unfortunately did not have any hints of coconut.
