I'm happy to say that I believe I finally found the right stylist! Gina carefully evaluated my hair and recommended a digital perm that would best suit me. She explained that I would need three different levels of curls: a root perm at the top, soft curls in the middle, and medium curls at the bottom. I really appreciated how carefully she considered my hair and the style I wanted. She also pointed out that my hair is quite dry and recommended using K18 hair treatment after the perm to help repair and strengthen my hair. Her professional advice gave me so much confidence, and I had no worries at all. Thank you so much, Gina, for your professional recommendation and for taking the time to understand my hair. I'm very happy that I finally found a hairstylist I can trust!

I really appreciated his honesty and that he genuinely wanted me to leave with a haircut that suited my natural hair and lifestyle. We decided on long layers with face-framing pieces, and I absolutely love the result. He was kind, knowledgeable, and never made me feel rushed. I'll definitely be coming back and highly recommend G&C Hair Studio!

I would poke my head in there on and off when it comes time to get a haircut and see if Lana is there. It's a hit or miss but I love her haircuts when there's no wait. I have a flat head and really weird shaped head all around. Lana knows how to cover and make it full. There has only been three people in this country that has cut my hair from Cali to NY that can make it look nice and she's one of them. I would definitely recommend her to anyone and I always make sure to tip her well over because her haircuts are worth way more than $18 dollars. How humble is someone who is so great to only charge $18 dollars for a fabulous haircut? Definitely give her a try and you won't regret it.

I asked for shoulder length haircut, repeatedly repeated myself for four to five times, and I didn't get what I asked for. Lana--the owner and the person who did my hair--did not fucking listen to what I wanted; she didn't wash my hair beforehand so that was a sign and started spraying my hair wet with those spray bottles. AND my hair was fucking dripping wet...if I was at Avalon's, my hair wouldn't be dripping wet. She, then, went and grabbed the scissors and started to cut my hair shorter than I wanted. I wanted shoulder length and she gave me a bob cut! A bob cut that I DID NOT asked for. I would not recommend this at all.

I found Love Lane when searching for a closer alternative. Downtown is 3 miles away and the walk is very pleasant; it is a treat by itself. Add to that, the pleasant environment of the salon and the cute area it is situated. Plus, they did a very good job in taming my unruly curls into a sleek undamaged mane. They offer you drinks. (Not booze), but nice iced sparkling flavored water. It grounds you into a zen sate of mind. The perm straightening does not smell of chemicals. You don't get burning eyes during the process. The perm looks better and better as the days go on. Not sure what brand they are using. I remember when the keratin perm first began, the stink of the ammonia and the fumes would burn nostrils and eyes. Love lane has become my regular spot. I must be a very boring customer for them, because I only go there for the silk press and regular trims to the ends. Nonetheless the treat me well.

I came in very excited for my appointment and was expecting a full highlight/balayage…read moretransformation. Before booking, I sent photos of my current hair, a previous photo showing my balayage, and inspiration photos from Alysa's own page showing the dimensional, blended color I liked. I also spoke with someone at the salon beforehand and made sure my information was passed along to Alysa. I explained that I wanted to keep my hair on the lighter side since my current balayage was already more blonde. I was looking for warm caramel/honey tones, brighter face-framing pieces, soft ribbon highlights, dimension, and a natural blended finish. During my appointment, Alysa asked what I wanted, and I specifically told her in person that I wanted the color brought closer to the root with a blended transition. Unfortunately, the final result did not match the vision we discussed or the inspiration I provided. The back and crown area remained very dark, and the result felt more like a shadow root and refresh of my previous color rather than the full highlight transformation I was expecting. It appears that the new growth was mainly shadowed and the existing lighter pieces were re-lightened instead of creating the brighter, dimensional look I requested. The color also turned out more brassy than I expected. I felt the toning process was rushed. It seemed like the toner was applied and rinsed out very quickly rather than being left on long enough to properly neutralize the brassiness and achieve the softer tone I was looking for. I was also disappointed with the finishing of my hair. After a color service at this price point, I expected a polished salon finish, but my hair was left puffy, rough, and not styled the way I expected. It felt like there was still product left in my hair, and I had to go home and fix it myself. The blowout fee was an additional $80, which made this even more disappointing. My previous stylist was very detail-oriented and always took her time. Even though she relocated far away, I always left her salon feeling confident, with my hair fully styled, soft, and beautiful. I have never left a salon feeling like the stylist was rushing through the service. I also did not appreciate the way Alysa discussed my hair being "not prepped" while speaking with another stylist in front of me. I was never sent preparation instructions or an email explaining that my hair needed to be prepped in a specific way before my appointment. I have never heard of needing my hair "prepped" in that way, especially since many salons actually recommend coming in with hair that has not been freshly washed before a color service. If there were concerns, I would have appreciated being informed directly and professionally rather than hearing the conversation while it was being discussed with another stylist. I also feel I was overcharged for the service I received. I paid for what I understood to be a full highlight, but the final result appears more like a partial highlight with a shadow root and a refresh of my existing color. The outcome did not reflect the level of service or transformation I expected for the price I paid. The most disappointing part is that after spending this much money, my friends and coworkers did not even notice that I had my hair done because the overall appearance looked so similar to my previous color. I was expecting a noticeable, brighter transformation, and instead I left feeling like the change was minimal and not worth the time, cost, or effort. The service was $560, and I still left a $125 tip because I appreciated the stylist's time and effort. However, I was disappointed because the final result did not match what I requested. I now have to find another salon to correct the color because my crown area is still mostly dark, which is not what I wanted. Overall, this experience felt like a waste of time and money. I paid the same price at other salons and left with hair that was beautiful, soft, fully styled, and exactly what I asked for. Unfortunately, I would not return or recommend this salon. I would advise others to be cautious and think twice before booking, especially if you are looking for a detailed color transformation and a stylist who truly takes the time to understand your vision. A stylist who takes pride in their work should not let a client leave feeling like they received a partially completed service after paying for a premium color service and blowout.

I've been debating on leaving this review since most of my experience of coming to this salon for…read morethe last 6 years has been nothing but great. The salon itself is super cute painted in hot pink, Dolly Parton themed and just overall welcoming. I've been loyally seeing Collie for haircuts since she's a genius when it comes cutting thick hair. Unfortunately, Collie has moved to another state and upon setting an appointment with the front desk, they set me up with Anatalie. The salon asks for clients to fill out a form prior to the appointment in which one of the questions asks for an inspo pic (see below). I also want to note it takes me an hour to commute to downtown jersey from Brooklyn where I live now. The salon is empty and it's just me and Anatalie. She informs me that most of the stylist are gone summer Fridays and that she's covering for some of them. During our conversation, I find out that she's actually the owner of the salon and that she's not usually behind the chair. We have a great conversation, she's very down to earth, very likable, and very easy to talk to. I showed her the inspo pic before she started cutting, and I also told her that I included it in the form. Im requesting for a long shag with a 2 inch trim for any split ends. At this point, it's almost over two hours that I've been sitting in her chair and now she's rushing to finish the trim post blow dry because her last client is waiting. I think we've all been there where we're sitting in the chair and we see ourselves in the mirror and it's not looking like the inspo pic but we're hoping its because it's not styled how you would do it at home. At this point, I'm not trying to be negative but Anatalie tells me that "if I see anything that looks off or needs to be trimmed more, to call in for another appointment" to which is a alarming especially since she knows that I don't live nearby. When I get home, I brush my fingers through my hair and I feel that the ends of my hair were absolutely not debulked. It looks like a block of hair straight across. My layers were completely uneven; one side of my hair was thinned out way more than the other side. My right curtain bang was cut in too deep so it goes past my ear. She also cut much more than the 2 inches I requested. I texted the next day to see if I can get another stylist to fix it since it doesn't seem like she is familiar with cutting thick hair or possibly it's been too long since she's been behind the chair. I was told that it has to be her as there are no refunds offered. I paid about $165 with tip total. I did go to another salon and paid over $100 to get it fixed but the length of my hair was compromised and there are areas like my curtain bangs that can't be fixed since hair is missing. I wish Anatalie was straightforward and could've told me that a shag is out of her expertise and that if I come back another day, someone else could've attended me. And although a refund isn't going to grow my hair out, it would've been nice to have that to cover going to another salon.
