First off, I'm a huge fan of Immigrant Food (I usually go to the Planet Word location). This is a small food stall in Union Market offering a few different menu options such as sandwiches and bowls. I've been a few times to this location and the staff are always friendly. The food is pretty decent but honestly I think there are better options in Union Market for the money. To date, I've had the West African Gumbo, Bahn Mi, and Cuban sandwich. Again, all good food. I don't think it's the best poke bowl I've ever had but it was decent enough. My biggest complaint is that there is very little poke. The ratio of rice, salad and poke was poor. Love the Mission behind this restaurant, always makes me more excited to go to a restaurant that has a great cause. Food was alright. The Miso Cesar salad had minimal lettuce especially given the cost around 20$ with added chicken and I found the added chicken to be a bit dry and didn't find the flavors cohesive. I love a food hall! However, I get overwhelmed by the choices so for Immigrant Food to stand out, that says something. I went with the Old Saigon, their take on a Banh Mi and it was excellent. The bread tasted fresh, not too crunchy, the chicken is spiced with adobo, and I loved the pickled slaw and chili mayo that gives the sandwich some punch. The overstuffed Falafel Bocadilla pita sandwich was smothered with tahini sauce and very messy to eat! While I enjoyed the crispy falafel balls and the fluffy pita, the red peppers, cucumbers, and other toppings sunk to the bottom of the sandwich and they were a bit more evenly distributed with the tahini sauce. With tax, I paid $18 for a good, but not stellar falafel sandwich and wish it came with a small side of fries as a default (there's a $3 upcharge!). Wish there were more vegetarian options on the menu besides falafel and samosa. With so many ethnic food options, I would try out other vendors! read more

We made a quick stop at Immigrant Food en route to getting some other items from The Union Market. We weren't planning on having a full meal, so the three piece Veggie Samosa was the perfect appetizer prior to dinner. The Samosas were perfect - crispy casing, mildly spicy, flavorful interior and it wasn't saturated in oil like some other sub par places. Tried the food stand at union market and it is pretty tasty, albeit quite expensive (~$18 sans tips) for just falafel wrap. There aren't anything too special about this, other than they using the bocadillo or bocata bread. The chicken sandwich was really good, personally the topping reminded me of a bahn mi in the best possible way. The slaw and sauce made it bright and savory with a good quality bread. It did get soggy kinda quickly so eat at Union Market or get your toppings on the side. The samosas with the sauce were good because the filling was seasoned well. read more

On a busy Sunday afternoon, it took about 10-15 minutes to get our food. The menu comes from all around the world and includes sandwiches, bowls, etc. My pastrami panini was tasty and filling. I also got the red sangria, which was enjoyable sweet and refreshing. One thing to note is that Immigrant Food is pretty pricey compared to other spots in Union Market. My panini was $14 and the small bottle of sangria was another $14. read more

We decided to check out Union Market before we went to the Van Gogh exhibit in DC. I've heard about it, but was so excited to finally check it out - we walked around the entire place and decided on grabbing a quick snack from Immigrant Food. The food was so fresh and hot! We had the fries with garlic aioli and the churros. It was so delicious that we inhaled it before I could even take a picture. There were about 6 churros in one order, and the fries were enough for me and my husband to both split. The service was pretty good - they took our number and texted us when the food was ready, which was helpful. The only reason I took a star off is because they didn't seem to be double checking orders before handing them off. We almost walked away with the wrong order but I noticed that the bag had a sandwich in it before we left. I would've been a little frustrated that I didn't get the right food especially since we were short on time, so I'm glad I checked - but would hope they'll be more careful about that in the future. read more

I've been here twice now and got the Old Saigon Sandwich (a play on banh mi with adobo chicken) and the Viet Vibes bowl. The service is great as they take your number and text you when your order is ready so that you don't need to stand around waiting to pick up your food! As for the sandwich and the bowl, both were solidly ok. The banh mi was better than the bowl for sure. Keep in mind, this is a fusion place so it won't be the same as your typical banh mi and the adobo chicken isn't really like Filipino chicken adobo but rather chicken made with adobo seasoning, which was confusing at first. The Viet Vibes bowl was kind of disappointing but very filling. The rice noodles were hard and grainy and didn't really mix well with the rest of the ingredients. I thought the broccoli and chicken were fine, and the pho vinaigrette was really interesting (it actually tastes like pho). The raw kale and bean sprouts definitely make this a very crunchy meal but there's not enough sauce to cover these ingredients so most of the bowl is just raw kale. Overall, this place is a decent option in Union Market. I'm excited to see it grow and improve as I think what Immigrant Food with its advocacy is critical to the DC food scene so definitely check it out and lend them some support! read more

Really shady place! Make sure you check the total price before you pay! First of all, they claimed on their menu that they charge a 4% wellness fee, they actually charge 5% wellness fee. (It's an add on fee that forcing the customers to pay their employees, the OWNER should pay their employees well if they cared) Secondly, double check your grand total before you pay. We got charged 20% tips even though we didn't select that. When we asked the employee about that, he threw his hands in the air and refused to do anything about it. Overall, we paid over $21 for a $15 sandwich to eat in a food court with no air conditioning and no actual service. read more
