Lox with Lox & Bacon without bacon

It was ok. Was it the best lox that I've had, no. But its was fullfilling. The delivery was smooth and came in a timely manner.

Lox and bacon on sourdough, steak eggs and cheese on multigrain

I was looking for a quick brunch and decided to check this out after many times walking past it before. While it wasn't a mind blowing brunch, it did the trick. My partner and I ordered two open face sandwiches to split, the lox and bacon on sourdough and the steak eggs and cheese on multigrain. It took about ~10 min so we walked around union market while waiting for the text that our order was ready. - Lox and bacon: the combo of lox and bacon was a bit too salty for my taste, but the lox on its own actually wasn't too salty and the bacon was decent too, though I prefer it crispier. I wish the pickled onions were a bit more pickled and sweet though. - Steak eggs and cheese: the scrambled eggs were a great consistency and the pesto mayo was a unique pairing, but it worked. The steak was tender and cooked well, but tbh didn't have much flavor on its own. The sandwiches looked small but they didn't skimp on the protein, so I wasn't hungry at the end of the meal. I think the quality of each ingredient was pretty good, but the flavors could be refined more. Definitely not a bad meal, but probably not something I would crave often.

Finally made it to Union Market! The pics are a mix of the Market and On Toast. Free parking lot next to the Market. Or you could park on the street. On Toast Cash Register guy was really nice and patient. I ordered Avocado toast with scrambled eggs and bacon on the side. When I was given my order, there was No Egg and the bacon was ontop of the toast. So they had to re-order and shuffle my food items for what I Paid for. There was a bit more feta cheese than I would like on it. Sizeable. I was still left hungry. Also had a coffee - pretty basic. You can only order Poached egg or Scrambled egg. Poached eggs are in the shell and then placed under a machine and are apparently really runny as said by the cash attendent. I sat outside. Nice beautiful day.

On Toast is pricey. I got the Steak, Egg, and Cheese open sandwich and it cost $13. If you want to make it a sandwich (meaning adding another piece of bread on top), you would need to pay $1 extra. If you are looking for a very small meal and don't mind the price, this is a good option. Otherwise, I would definitely spend $13 on something else that can actually fill me up.

I'm so glad I was finally able to try this place in Union Market! They're usually closed when I go late because I go really late, however I took the opportunity to try them when I was there pretty early. This grilled cheese sandwich was absolutely delicious! I would definitely come here again. It's so convenient that Union market is only a 10min walk from my apartment complex!

Love this place for breakfast! They have such a great variety. I got the mushroom goat cheese toast with pesto mayo. It was delicious. My husband was a bit more hungry so he got the steak and eggs toast. It was filling and yummy. Everything is great except for the wait. Just be conscious that you will not get your toast right away.

Honestly I didn't really wanna cough up $8 for a simple breakfast sandwich. I'd seen On Toast many times in Union Market, but I had never tried it. But on this particular morning, I found myself perusing the breakfast options (which were few) and I decided to give them a shot and OMG, I had been MISSING OUT!!! If anyone would've ever told me that I would one day find myself completely SMITTEN over a simple Bacon, Egg & Cheese (open-face) sandwich, I'd would've said they were lying! No way. Absolutely not. I mean, It's literally bacon, eggs and cheese on toast. For one, who could mess up bacon, eggs, cheese or toast?! (I mean a child could make that!) And for two, could a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich really be "fancy'?!... Well, I must say I was sadly mistaken! On Toast is fancy y'all! With the very first bite, I was overwhelmingly surprised with the rush of flavor. Each element was cooked to perfection and coupled with the spiked seasoning made for a phenomenal foodie experience. Throw on a lil' hot sauce and this fancy/simple sandwich knocks it outta the park! I know you may not be able to tell from the pics, but TRUST ME when I say that this sandwich is FIRE! I simply cannot believe that I've been missing out on such fantastic food for so long that's been right under my nose! If you've never been to On Toast, I'd highly recommend it. It's definitely worth it and I'll certainly be back!

Cute spot in Union Market. Staff was incredibly nice and helpful in letting us customize our orders and providing suggestions. Everything we tried was delicious and tasted fresh. It is a little pricey but if avocado toast is "your thing" it's at least worth a try. I usually walk right by this place since there are so many options around but I am happy that I decided to try it! The quality, flavors, seasonings (Za'atar!) and customer service all made it worth the price. It was also surprisingly filling as well. Win all around!

On Toast is a spot in Union Market with open face sandwiches, including of course avocado toast. It's possible to get the avocado toast with a poached egg and/or prosciutto. Service is slow but the ingredients are fresh and generous, especially the prosciutto. The flavoring of the avocado was decent but could use some vinegar and maybe pepper as well. It was a bit plain, even with the toppings, but still good.

I frequent Union Market on the weekends but had never tried On Toast. This weekend, I am so glad I did! I ordered avocado toast with prosciutto and it was insanely delicious. I love the zaatar spice on the toast and the lime wedge added the perfect little extra something. The gentleman who took my order took the time to talk to me about where their prosciutto was sourced from and I really appreciated knowing they use only quality products with ingredients you can actually pronounce. On Toast is so delicious, that I came back this morning for some more avocado toast. It definitely says a lot about a place to go there two days in a row. This will be my new Union Market spot!

Avocado toast with a poached egg and steak

We came to On Toast on a random Friday morning. I am so glad we stopped because it was absolutely delicious. The gentleman who took our order was fabulous and gave great suggestions. He also told us where the food was sourced from and how we can tell if bread is well made. I ended up getting the avocado toast with added steak and a poached egg. My boyfriend got the chorizo, egg, and cheese with added mushrooms and a side of bacon. The bread itself was so light but dense and hearty at the same time. The avocados were fresh and the spice they put on top was grade A. The steak was to die for and so glad I added it. My boyfriends sandwich was equally delicious and he loved the mushrooms. Overall, a great experience and I am happy to support businesses like this!

Came to the food hall by mistake but came upon this gem. The customer service was great and although it was a bit of a wait for my food, it was worth it. I paired this bad boy with an iced coffee from another vendor across the way. All this needed was some siracha or Mayo. It was a tad dry by the time I got to the office (10 minute drive) which was understandable.

    BLT with scrambled eggs
    Sarah W.

OVERALL: pretty good toast place. I'm a fan of the scrambled eggs, but bacon could be done better. Kind of hard to eat though. Would probably come back again. I came here with some friends and decided on this place because it looked pretty good and had a decent selection of toast. I waited around 10 mins for my food, which was pleasant, because it seemed like they were super busy and would take longer. The price was also great, compared to other places in Union Market, which can be a lot more expensive. The food itself was good - I ordered a BLT with scrambled egg (you can choose either poached or scrambled) and the best thing for me were their scrambled eggs, which were fluffy and warm, yet not super buttery. The bacon was probably the most mediocre thing on the toast. It was too thick for my liking and not crispy enough. Despite that though, I still enjoyed my meal. Next time, I'll probably eat with a fork and knife though, because eating it like a sandwich will cause you to drop everything on the toast.

Best breakfast sandwich at Union Market. Not expensive ($12 with bacon) but worth it. Very good and definitely fresh and quick.

But maybe that's better for them too. You can order to-go at the window and/or request a spot in the limited spaced dining/bar area. I've only gotten the Sub Club the few times I've gone here but what can I say? its a fail proof staple that is hard to get wrong and that they do very right. I often pair it with one of their drinks, this time being the spicy ginger ale which was solid as well. There's really not much place to dine-in if you're trying to dine and go - I recommend only using the dining area if you're solo, a couple, or part of a small group (at MOST maybe - a hard maybe - on 4 people) and only if you want to use the bar. One couple tried to squeeze in a baby stroller into the bar/dining area. Its really not suitable for things like suitcases or strollers so if you're in that camp maybe try some other spots because that also made a tiny space all the more difficult to navigate. Also, if you have a mobility device, this might not be the best spot for you either. I've never used their restrooms before so can't comment on that one. I still will say it is good for when you want to grab and go - so if you're in that category, and you like moderately priced sandwiches (for this part of town) this might work for you.

I heard good things about their sandwiches. My go to is normally Mangialardo's on Pennsylvania Ave in SE DC or Carl's Subbs on Rhode Island Ave in NE DC. I think I will stick to both of them next time. The staff was very friendly and helpful to me as a first timer but the sandwich was totally disapointing! NOT worth it, at all. I ordered a 9 inch capicola, ham, and cheese sub on the hard roll. The roll was very good and fresh but I couldn't taste the cheese or meat in the sandwich because there wasn't enough of it. I tasted the bread, the toppings of lettuce, tomato and onions. I decided to deconstruct the sandwich and found exactly 4 very thinly sliced pieces of meat and 2 very thinly sliced pieces of cheese as pictured clearly in the photographs. I also noticed that the they have different prices for the same type of meats. For example, they have a $29.99 per pound Capicola and one for $9.99 a pound. I asked which went on the sandwich and of course it was the cheaper one. That wasn't surprising and getting my sandwich back to the office. I decided not to eat the rest of the meatless sandwich and just take the loss. I wouldn't come back nor would I recommend a friend to try it
