    Prescription for mastitis

Two days after visiting the spa with a friend who recommended it, I developed hot tub folliculitis and mastitis. Essentially they are red dots that appear all over your body caused by bacteria because the water is not properly chlorinated. Unfortunately, that same bacteria got into my right breast, and it became inflamed and painful to the touch whenever something brushed it, like my clothes. I had to go to the gynecologist because mastitis does not go away on its own. Plus, you need to take an ultrasound after you drink the antibiotics to ensure that the antibiotics is working. Like others mentioned in this Yelp review (which I did not get a chance to read before I came to the spa), they did not provide the slippers when you go to the bathroom, so you do not know if the water pooled near the toilet seat is wet from the spa or something else. In addition, I was not informed by the staff that I need to take a shower before and after the spa. I only knew it because my friend told me how it's done. Otherwise, the staff is nice. I would have given it a higher rating if I did not contract this.

    Last minute cancellation from management

I showed up a little early (because they advertise free two hours before or after your service) the manager yelled at me to wait outside for 10 mins, when I stepped outside and received this email: He was so hostile, I don't even want to walk back in there to ask for an explanation.

Imperial Day Spa is a hidden gem for those seeking an authentic Korean spa experience. From the moment you walk in, the tranquil atmosphere sets the tone for relaxation. The spa is clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed, creating a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The Korean Body Scrub - A Must-Try The highlight of my visit was the traditional Korean body scrub, and let me tell you--it's intense but incredibly effective. The skilled therapists leave no inch of your skin untouched, scrubbing away layers of dead skin to reveal baby-soft, glowing skin. It's both invigorating and deeply cleansing, leaving you feeling refreshed and renewed. Facilities & Amenities Imperial Day Spa offers a variety of hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms,

Ask the Community - Imperial Day Spa

Do they supply disposable razors and shaving cream?

    They don't allow shaving there.

Is the only thing available for men the 20min scrub?

I got an acupuncture massage as well.

Are the hours posted on Yelp accurate I can't see their business hours on the website?

Still closed, yelp is not correct business hours.

I am interested in going, but what should I expect for a 1st timer here?

Have an open mind if you haven't been to a bath house before. Just know that you're there for you. Keep quiet. I try not to look at other people since we're all naked and I think others do the same. It's a nice experience.

Can you do the spa for as long as you want? Or is there a time limit on how long you can stay?

There was a sign that said 4 hour limit when I was there just now. I didn't stay that long, so I'm not sure how/how strictly it is enforced.

Do they provide shirts and shorts for the jimjibang? And is there a time limit on how long your can stay at the spa?

    They provide shorts for men.

I'd like to bring my daughters who are 10 and 7? Is that possible?

No, I don't think it's an environment for children. You should verify with the establishment but I would say children would not be allowed.

Is there a certain order one should be using the services? Shower, hot tub, sauna, then scrub? Shower, hot tub, scrub, then sauna? How would you personally do it? Thanks!

Shower, scrub, sauna, and then icy pool..

Do they provide lockers with locks? Any reason to worry about storing my stuff there?

Yes, they provide lockers and locks. No reason to worry.

    Is this spa co Ed?

No. It is sex segregated. We have two gender-segregated spa and locker room areas. Accordingly, guests will be completely nude while using our facilities. We do not offer… Read more

Gorgeous, humongous, proper hot, and dare I say social sauna? Loved it. And the selection of hot teas? (Insert chefs kiss gesture). Perfect for a cool day, even better for a rainy one. And this is just the beginning. The expansion plans are impressive and well laid out on the website and in the inner entryway. Can't wait to go back. Met more likeminded and fun people in two hours here than over the last two months. What a pleasant and unpretentious take of social spa-going. PS: as photographed, also learned about karma. And not in some enlightened sense, but the simple fact that if you beg the proprietress to up the heat in the sauna with a splash of water in hour one... she might come back while you're four minutes into your cold plunge with a three to five pound bag of ice.

Although at times it was very crowded (I counted 18 people at one time, including me, while I was inside) I had a lovely time. The third outdoor shower to the right does not work, and I did notice hair/skin debris from heavy use of the cold plunge, more than I've seen at most places I've been to, but overall I had a positive experience. I think for the price the place could be kept in a better shape, and some of the experience leaves something to be desired, but it has valuable potential and is a good addition to the community. I booked the 9am and got there about 8:25, which gave me time to get oriented/tour facility and do a soak to prep. The reviews were accurate. I glad I was solo, made it easier being comfortable being nude. Lots of amenities to glam up before leaving. It was calm and quiet when I arrived, and got busier as I was leaving. Staff was great, and made me feel comfortable and welcomed. They explained everything and answered questions with a smile. The place was super clean and staff actively removed used towels/swept throughout my stay. A good scrub, felt like a symboloc ritual for shedding the old for the new. I now have baby soft skin!

Otherwise, you'll need to book a service at least a month in advance. It's situated in Japantown. If you're driving, I recommend parking in the garage as street parking is either by permit and limited to two hours. They kindly pushed our scrub time to later since one of our party members was running a bit behind. This is the first Korean place I've been to where they requested you come an hour earlier versus thirty minutes. Seemed like a long time to soak. There's also no clock inside the actual bathing area, so difficult to keep track of time. Also, first time going to a Korean spa where they want it to be absolutely silent. I get that they are going for a relaxed environment, but kind of difficult to just soak for an hour and not chit chat amongst ourselves. The shower/soaking area is on the smaller side and for some reason, they didn't have any stools for the sitting bathing areas available. There's one hot tub, one ice tub, a dry sauna, and steam sauna. This would have been more of a three-star experience for me if not for the scrub. My ahjumma, Lee, was great; very attentive and did a very thorough job! Not mentioned in the list of services, but they also wash your hair and face as well as part of the thirty-minute scrub. After our scrub, we headed upstairs to try out the Himalayan salt room and the red clay room. They had staff cleaning throughout so they definitely take cleanliness seriously. Locker room area has lots of Aveda product toiletries and blow dryers available for after. As we were leaving, they gave a face and eye mask which was much appreciated. I can see this being a go-to place if you live in the city, especially if you prioritize relaxation and cleanliness. Just be sure to make an appointment ahead of time.

Environment & Ambience: Kabuki has a much wider space, calming music, great ambience, wonderful smells and decor. OnsenSF is a dining space when you enter and spa in the back. Everything looks modern and nice, relaxing environment despite being located in the tenderloin. 3. Hot Tub: Kabuki has a rectangle shaped hot tub as opposed to OnsenSF's square shaped tub. 4. Cold plunge: Kabuki has a cold plunge that's perfect for people who don't need it to be extremely freezing. OnsenSF has a cold shower with many heads in place of a cold plunge. Both are enjoyable experiences 5. Steam Room: Kabuki's steam room is also rectangular as opposed to OnsenSF's square room. Kabuki's steam room also has a shower to rinse off excess salt and sweat before entering the common area. 6. Showers: At Kabuki, there's also a line of stools for the seated handheld showers where you can fill a tub of water and pour it over yourself in addition to the traditional shower stalls, where OnsenSF only has the traditional showers if I recall correctly. 7. Sauna: The sauna was great because you could adjust the heat by moving up the wooden bleachers. There was also plenty of space to stretch out and lie down. There were wooden half-cylinder blocks to place under the neck and back to promote blood flow. My partner's favorite standout was the salt scrub they have that's free to take at the refreshments table. You use it to scrub away dead skin in the shower and steam room. My favorite was the bowl of towels buried in ice cubes that helped me keep a cool head in the hot tub and sauna room. I will say that the thing that makes OnsenSF stand out is their dining pop-ups, but there's plenty of dining options on Fillmore and in Japantown. I would definitely go back to Kabuki again. The experience was incredibly relaxing. Highly recommend.

I was instantly drawn to how intentional everything feels here, from the dark wood of the sauna to the sleek tile in the showers. It feels carefully crafted to be both modern and timeless, with the Japanese motif flowing through all of the design. Personally, I love the dim lighting in the baths; with no windows, it feels like time is suspended. Is it midday, or midnight? Sunny, stormy? Early, late? You can't really tell when you're there, and that feels like the point. It's an escape in its truest, most relaxing sense. Attendants are constant in the baths, which makes it feel far more luxurious than what the price would suggest. Cucumber, lemon, or plain water are all on tap, as are iced hand towels, salt scrubs for the steam room, and hot lemon ginger tea. I loved how cups are encouraged to be reused (I hate seeing the giant pile of single-use cups in the trash at other spas). I'm holding out hope, however, that traditional green tea may make an appearance in the future! I'd recommend attending on one of the single-gender days, as I found that lent itself best to the fully immersive experience. Shower sandals are available, though I found them a bit uncomfortable. Next time I'll be sure to bring my own. As a bathhouse enthusiast, I cannot recommend this place enough. I can't wait to bring my friends here to learn for themselves just how relaxing and rejuvenating the sauna, steam, soak, and plunge rotation can be.

Two things that I can't ignore and hope management reads this. 1. There is room for improvement on the locker room getting so crowded. 2. Do NOT trust the sandals. They are plastic and incredibly slippery when wet. Since they are not sized to the individual, it's dangerous. I slipped out of my sandals and fell down the stairs in the large Russian Sauna. This resulted in multiple abrasions and a large laceration on my forearm and I actually got stitches for the first time. Sandals have to be fixed, there's stairs everywhere here. The people in the sauna were super nice and helped me, luckily, I'm pretty fit, but it could've been really really bad. Credit to the staff for not charging me for my time there, honestly, I would've rather paid and left uninjured. The infrared and red light setup is fantastic. Because it uses light wavelengths to heat your body directly rather than just making the room stiflingly hot, it gave me a true, heavy, from-the-inside-out thermal sweat. It felt incredibly detoxifying and did wonders for my tight muscles after hitting the gym. The absolute highlight was the halo treatment. The specialized unit mounted on the wall releases a smooth, calming stream of micro-salt particles that fills the booth.
