After almost a year of my 06 Tuned and fully built - race Turbo, injectors 50% over, performance cam shaft and more, all failed and my car was parked. I found these guys online and read some good reviews and figured what the hell I'll give them a shot. I'm very particular with my baby "Saneesha" (my daughter named my Jetta) and any man that is gonna lay their greasy hands on her. They took my info and detailed descriptions of what we believed to be wrong and left it in their care. Just a week later they did a quick check of a few things and BOOM they found a simple shorted wire that had melted to the back of the hot turbo. $142 and I was back on the road and that's the best $$ I've ever spent because I tried taking everything apart to figure out what was wrong. They could have charged me anything and could have told me anything and I would have paid way more. They are honest, fast, fair, and good communication throughout. Beware, they will overcharge you. The good news is they will do a good job and fully back their work. The bad news is you will pay about 50% more. I lived in Irmo back in the '80s and used to bring Ben my Bug to work on, and he used to give very fair pricing. I guess he has decided to go for the gold. Here are examples of my last two dealings with Import Plus. I took my car in to put in a new headlight bulb. They wanted $127. I said never mind and went to Auto zone, bought a bulb for $15, and installed it myself. The second time I brought in my car my Radiator died and the car overheated. They quoted me $789 to fix it. I knew that was way out of line. I had my car towed to another place that did the same work for $400. read more

I was told by VW dealer oil was leaking from my vacuum pump when my car was in for oil change. That didn't make sense to me because there wasn't any sign of leakage on my garage floor. Based on recommendation from my daughter I took my car to Imports Plus for a second opinion. They checked the vacuum pump and no leak, so they then went over everything looking for a leak and couldn't find anything. David called to ask me what we were seeing since they couldn't find a leak and, of course, I said, "Nothing." We left it with I'd keep an eye out for anything, and he'd check everything when I needed an oil change again. Needless to say, I'm trusting him and not VW dealer. Also, I wasn't charged anything for their time checking my car. Highly recommend! Could so easily have gone on what I said and done unnecessary repair. read more

Fair, honest and prompt! The best auto repair shop I have ever used.

Took my car to get a front axle and bearing fixed. When I reverted my car back. It was pulling HARD to the left, so much so I could feel myself swerving on the interstate. To make things worse, my car was producing a loud metal on metal noise which the tech did not apparently hear when he took my car for a test drive. That is unacceptable to not be able to hear a noise that makes anyone you drive past stop and look at your car in disbelief. The tech even mentioned being afraid of throwing out someone's bearings. If you have an immature employee that can't drive, don't let him drive my car and mess it up after I put over $1000 into my car at your shop. After returning my car to have the noise looked at, I was informed I had a bent rim....this is after my car was test driven by the tech and his mistake of the metal noise somewhat corrected. My car also felt like it lost power and traction on the road after taking it to Imports Plus ....very indicative of someone joy riding it right into the ground. This company caused issues to my car and will not take responsibility for their mistakes. I am very UNPLEASED with the so called work this so called company did. read more

I forgot to review this place from when I got my truck fixed last Dec. I'm on here just looking around for other options. Not because I was unhappy with the service or work, but because it was i feel like it was really expensive for what I had done. We had just moved here from NJ and my truck (an old 91 Nissan pickup) wouldn't start. After looking on the web, i had it towed here thinking, "It's an import. Why not?" They were closed, but someone was there after hours and took my keys and my info. Very helpful and friendly. Turns out, my battery died. So they recharged it. They also told me I had "cheap terminal connectors" on it so they replaced them with "factory" ones. Toyota, but I know that doesn't really matter. They also told me that the belts on the truck were the wrong size. Okay. Truck's old. Im quite sure they needed to be replaced. They actually did me a favor, and I appreciated that. I got the bill for new cable connectors, belts, and labor. It was over 300 dollars for a 25 year old truck. I'm no mechanic by any means, but that seems pretty steep. They threw all the dirty old parts on my driver seat, which I found weird. And the "factory parts" they put on lasted less than a year before completely disintegrating. I got new ones from an actual Nissan dealer, and they were cheaper. Service was fast and very friendly. I had a problem with my new bank card and they were very cool about it. But for that price, I'm afraid to take it there again, as my truck is now having the same type of issue but may be something more serious. read more

Honest, fair, great people, excellent service. I drive a Mini Cooper and was looking for a good mechanic. Went to the Mini Mania website and, under helpful resources, found a Mini mechanic in my area. While Imports Plus is approximately an hour's drive south of me, I am willing to drive that hour to have my car serviced. I had to leave my car overnight, and they provided me with a loaner car, all I had to do was replace the gas I used. The cost of the repairs was very fair. The best, most fair and most honest auto repair shop I have ever used. If you live anywhere near Irmo, SC, I highly recommend Imports Plus. read more

We moved to NE Columbia, but still drive to Irmo for these guys! Best mechanic in town. I just took my 2015 Audi to them to get new brakes after dealership told us they had to be replaced immediately. Imports plus inspected them, said nope not ready yet. Have plenty of pad left. Few more months. Who does that in Columbia when you are standing there with money in hand?! Way to be honest!!! They earned my trust years ago with another car that dealership said needed $1500 repair when it just needed $250 gasket. Only place to go if you own Luxury foreign! I would not recommend Imports Plus to anyone. I called and spoke to the owner to descibe the engine noise I was hearing and that the alternator belt had been remove to determine if the noise was due to the alternator. The owner tells me he doesn't really work on my model of car anymore but knows the model well and would be happy to look at it and tell me what he thought was wrong with it. This husband / wife owner operators charged me $120 dollars to remove the alternator belt which I had already had this done and I've seen done and it takes all of 5 minutes to remove the belt. They tell me its not the alternator and they're not really sure what the problem is but it could be my water pump (because they saw a drop of anti-freeze) they aren't sure the problem is the water pump but it would be $1100.00 to replace the water pump if i wanted them to replace the water pump. NO THANKS. And just to add insult to injury, when I go to leave as i'm walking to my car the hood, fender and bumper are covered in grease. When I open my car door and my driver side door panel has greasy finger prints on it. I go back in and ask for a rag to clean the grease and the wife tells the husband to go out and clean the oil. Needless to say he wasn't any better at cleaning up the oil than he was at actually working on my car or even being fair with a customer. Worse experience ever. Run don't walk away from this place. Update 11/20/14 I found a repair shop that has correctly identifed my engine problem and is charging me only $450 to fix it (as well as a rear seal oil leak) and they are giving a 2 1/2 yr warrenty the repairs. After moving the more-than 500 miles from Tennessee to South Carolina, I was appalled when I received pricing quotes for regular maintenance of my imported vehicle from the dealerships in town. I've bought and maintained two Volvos over the last 10+ years with a fantastic dealership in Nashville and was scared I'd never find a servicer offering comparable integrity, quality, and pricing here in Columbia. My 2005 Volvo S60 was, however, in need of a 120K service-- something that is quite costly even with my hometown Volvo folks. After a lot of anxiety-filled nights, too many calls to dealerships, and a little research into independent shops in the Columbia area, I found Imports Plus. On my first phone call, Susan Kirby made me feel more than at ease-- she let me know about the company's history, its track record, and its guarantees. I set an appointment and Ms. Kirby arranged for me to have a loaner vehicle ready when I dropped my Volvo off the night before-- after hours, at that, since I had a late-running seminar that evening! On the day of my service, I was absolutely amazed by how attentive Ms. Kirby was-- during the complex, day-long 120K service, she called me twice to let me know they'd found this and their plan of action was that, that I had multiple options for X, Y, and Z. The turn-around time for such a complicated set of replacements was ideal. My car runs beautifully, and I can really feel the difference the care and expertise of Imports Plus had on it. I recently had my vehicle serviced at another shop and was on my way out of town for Christmas. My wife, son, and I stopped at a restaurant right up the road when I noticed a bunch of smoke coming out from under my hood. I opened it up and it was like pulling the lid off a grill. When the other shop worked on my vehicle they failed to move my aux transmission cooler lines back and one of the rubber lines rubbed against my pulley causing it to wear through and sling transmission fluid everywhere. Of course I couldn't drive far without risking draining all of my transmission fluid. There happened to be a shop right next door so I figured this was my lucky day. I knew it would just be a matter of putting in a coupling or replacing the line which was just a matter of unscrewing two hose clamps. It should be about a 10-20 minute job. Unfortunately, I didn't have any tools on me to fix it myself. The shop next door wouldn't even take the time to look at it claiming they were "too busy." It was rather interesting considering they had one vehicle in their 5 bay garage with no customers around and absolutely no cars in the parking lot... It was rather frustrating to say the least. I figured the only thing I could do is find the nearest auto store and try to get the parts myself. On the way, I noticed Imports Plus Auto Repair. I decided to give them a shot before continuing down the road.... I figured pretty quick that they may not have the time either with all the vehicles I saw around. I went in anyways and ended up talking to Ben Kirby (the owner which I didn't know until after). I explained my situation and he immediately said he'd take a look at it and see what he could do. A few minutes later I was ready to get back on the road with the problem taken care of! I fully anticipated a little extra cost since the job was expedited and not on their schedule but he charged hardly nothing for the job and wished us a Merry Christmas! Talking about a class act! I couldn't believe how awesome they were in taking care of my problem as quick as they could! I will wholeheartedly recommend any business to them in the future! Thanks guys!
