As I was enjoying my chili and the smiling service my dining companion asked quizzically "I don't understand why this place isn't packed. If I lived here I'd be eating here almost every day!" And, there's the question because the homemade soups are delicious and this chili is OH SO GOOD!!!! Their sandwich menu is creative, and those sandwiches don't need fries to take over from their flavor (Served with a small bag of chips.). They also have dinners on the menu although we have always gone the soup/sandwich route. While we were eating a very happy man picked up four trays of food so clearly, they do well with their catering as well. Yes, I miss the pre-COVID "pickle barrel" but I don't think we are going back to a time when many hands and fingers were collecting pickles and peppers from the barrel to add to their meals. If I had one complaint it would be that there should be more pickle options on the menu or a choice of pickles/peppers as a condiment side to the sandwiches. Great service ... delicious soups ... fantastic sandwiches all at a very reasonable price certainly deserves a round of applause or at the very least 5 stars. read more

We were driving home from river winds and this sign caught my eye! Anyone who knows me knows I am IN LOVE with pickles. So, naturally, I had to order from here. We ordered the southern style fried pickles and the normal fried pickles. I also ordered roast beef on a panini... Overall, the service was great and timely. All COVID precautions were followed. My panini was nothing more then bread that was toasted and the roast beef was a tad dry. It still tasted good but it could have been better. I was most excited for the pickles but was unimpressed.. they, too, tasted dry? I am not sure how exactly to explain it but the bread to pickle ratio was just.. not ideal. Since I just came from playing Pickleball at the Riverwinds Community Center this was the perfect spot to catch a quick bite. Because I was definitely In The Pickle. The service was friendly and welcomed me and my friend to sit wherever we liked. We always order water because we are calorie conscious and know that the food we order will be enough. The sausage with peppers and onions was very satisfying and exactly what I expected. Yum. My friend said his crab cake sandwich was also delicious. OK, so I'm in this little town with hardly a spot to eat after 8PM, and I bring up Yelp reviews for the couple of possibilities. This place comes up with about a 4.5 and some nice reviews. So, Nick and I decide to give it a shot. Walked into a deserted place, not a sole (they close at 9PM, we got there at 8). The waitress was very friendly, but as she was new did not know a lot about each sandwich. To start, I asked if they would be willing to give me a mix of traditional and jalepeno deep fried pickles, not just one or the other. They said not a problem. OMG, they were fabulous with the ranch dipping sauce. So, Nick ordered the Italian Pulled Pork and I tried to order the Shrimp and Crab Cake Sandwich, which they were out of, so instead ordered the Sausage with Fried Onions and Peppers. So great to find a place that actually takes their product serious. The bread was perfect. Fresh lightly toasted hoagy, DEEEElicious. The sausage was sliced lengthwise before being put in the bun, which makes it so much easier to eat. The onions and peppers were done perfectly. They have a pickle bar, and let's just say of you like pickles, and who doesn't, you will love it. Sweet, Bread n Butter, Hot, Garlic Dill and more. Sigh. I wanted to like this place.. I really really did. The pickle bar is disappointing. There are a few options, but nothing special. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, buffalo chicken soup, and two paninis. I ordered on the phone, they said ten-fifteen minutes. After driving there, it was about twenty minutes. I waited an additional ten to fifteen minutes. The pulled pork sandwich was mediocre. Way too much tangy sauce- the pork was a radiant red. The paninis were average. The buffalo chicken soup was a huge let down. It was watery with no buffalo flavor at all. Not to mention the veggies in it were still hard. Nice place for lunch. In an area with few choices, we come here 1 or 2 times a week. Sandwiches and soups are really good and consistent but after going thru almost everything in the menu, they could stand to change the menu up a bit once in a while or add some specials. They've had fish and chips as a special every day since Lent. Had it 4 times...not that special anymore! :) Pretty regular crowd. Same faces every day. I ate there recently, while traveling for business. And honestly, the place had an oder of vomit, which I later discovered was caused from the Louisiana BBQ pulled pork, as that is what I ordered, and it not only smelled like vomit, but it mildly tasted like it as well! When I queried the hostess as to what the sauce was, she looked confused and said, barbecue....I have had hundreds of BBQs in my lifetime, and can tell you, if I had to guess what this sauce was made from, I would venture to say ketchup, sour vinegar, and horseradish sauce, now picture that on your sandwich, served as barbecue sauce?! Love stopping by in a pickle for lunch during the work week. There aren't too many places to go in the nearby area so I'm really glad we found pickles. It's a place that's priced right and you don't leave smelling like food which is the case with so many other local lunch stops. It's usually pretty crowded if you don't get here before the noon rush. I always get the mozzarella and tomato panini but have also enjoyed their turkey club. If you're looking for spicy wing sauce their wing dishes have some zip. I left off a star because they haven't found a way to heat the place appropriately. In the winter time I keep my jacket on during our visit which isn't really that comfortable. In a Pickle has a cozy, unique atmosphere (once you see their decor you'll understand). For those who enjoy pickles, their pickle bar is a nice touch. Overall, their sandwiches are good and they seem to abide by an oft-overlooked principle in the food industry: K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid). They don't try to be something they're not; in other words, they stick to being a solid sandwich shop with simple selections, yet also have a nice variety to choose from. My two issues are: their rolls can be too thick and disproportional to the contents of the sandwich, which can overwhelm not only the taste of the ingredients with bread but also makes you fill up faster than you'd like; and none of their buffalo chicken selections are any good. I don't know why they insist on using such a tame-flavored, almost barbecue sauce-like texture for their buffalo chicken sauce. I recommend avoiding the buff-chick meals. read more

Honestly I don't know how you mess up on making a triple decker turkey club, but the only things that takes to make one it's turkey, lettuce, bacon, tomatoes and maybe mayonnaise. What, What, What....A bad A$$ deli in West Deptford. People, it's real turkey not deli slices, all homemade in house. House brine corn-beef, fresh roles, homemade soup. I got the homemade Italian pulled pork with sharp provolone, and it was banging...Down falls, sammy's are not that big, and the location is tucked away in a shanty strip mall. Was looking to try a new place out n decided to order out from here...I ordered the shrimp and crab cake sandwich, Reuben and started with the fried jalapeño style pickles...I'm giving this 3.5 stars with the potential for 4..I picked up the order 5 minutesater than when they said I should get there an by the time I got home everything was barely warm...the crab cake shrimp sandwich would of been better for sure if it was eaten there nice n hot...good sauce...the Reuben even Luke warm was nice n moist and had good flavor...the fried pickles were good but def need to be hot...I also ordered the buffalo soup which was ok...if I get the chance ill have to post follow up review which I'm sure will be better if eaten there...quaint spot n for those who care the girl who took the order was cute... read more
