The fitness side is top notch in the OC. You can go to the large fitness places and throw weights around but the In Motion OC Fitness staff get you in shape. Jay Garrett, DPT at In Motion O.C. has been incredibly helpful in resolving my back issues. When I started it was almost impossible to get out of bed by myself. Jay showed me how to physically angle myself, and through 6 weeks of strengthening exercises I was able to move about freely, and get up from a bed or table with ease and a smile! Matt and his team are top-notch. I just finished my 2nd plan with InMotion OC and have been feeling much better. I had been dealing with Occipital headaches and constant shoulder pain. I came across InMotion on Google, gave them a call, and the rest is history. Matt and his staff are super friendly. The environment is super welcoming. every time I came in, it felt like I was catching up with old friends. The therapy sessions can be hard but they ease you in as you go and at the end of the day, they work. Fast forward a couple more months and I have to say again, this place is bringing me back in AMAZING shape with the progress from the team here. I recently started going to the personal training side that my physical therapist Maddi recommended to me. When it comes to the personal training aspect, Edgar really knows what he is talking about and makes sure that the goals I want to accomplish started from day 1. Within the first month, I no longer had anxiety or had my "fight or flight" response triggered from a combo of my hypothyroidism and multiple issues due to scoliosis. I feel like when I work out, Edgar is the boss fight and then Katlyen helps me grind out that next level so I can prepare for the next boss fight haha. My progress has gotten so good, that my wife has even joined the personal training just yesterday! SO grateful to have experienced In Motion both on the physical therapy side and the personal training/fitness side. I came to PT a postpartum momma recovering from 4 different surgeries and no idea where to start my recovery journey! Soleil was kind and patient but gave me great stretches and small workouts to start supporting the muscles my lower back needed to function and relief for my sciatic pain. Both her and her assistants gave me the kick start of confidence and pain management needed to move on to personal training. Because I loved my phys therapy experience so much, I stayed with in motion and started training with Edgar. I also worked with 2 other trainers and at all times I felt confident in their knowledge. The vibe is welcoming and positive but you will definitely get a great workout. But most importantly you'll get a workout that matches your individual abilities, confidence level and injuries if u have any. Bryan was my PT for the most time at In Motion and he did a great job! I did improve a lot! And it was never too painful.. very helpful and understanding always gave me tips and exercises to do at home. And My case got better and better after every visit!! If they have accepted my insurance I would have never changed. The only thing though is sometimes having 3 patients at the same time seems a little too much especially in some patients' cases where they might need more attention. I wish there was more one on one time because that what made all the difference in my situation. read more

Six months after my shoulder injury, I had a running accident while on a mountain trail. Fracture to the 5th toe base and an ankle sprain. When my Orthopedist suggested PT while I was in a boot, I knew exactly where to go. Though I couldn't do a lot for a while (the fracture took a few more weeks to heal than expected), Garrett made sure I would be ready to hit the ground running once I could put weight on the foot with stretch and strength exercises that I could literally do while sitting at a desk. Within a month, I went from barely being able to bend my toes to doing some ankle circles and a walking a few steps. And when I could actually walk again, the exercises expectedly became harder, but they were a good mix of challenging and fun. I use them now for pre-run warmups. Using different equipment (bands, balls, etc.) was also fun and kept me motivated. Have to give a shout to Garrett's assistant, Alex, for being patient with my lack of coordination and helping me understand the right way to do things! In tandem with my swimming routine, I was back to running streets another month later and my usual trails three weeks after that. My legs feel better than they did pre-injury, and seeing the progress motivated me to consider the benefits of strength training. I now am an IMOC fitness member and really enjoy the new things I'm learning each week--on top of seeing even more progress and challenging myself to do things I didn't even know were possible. read more

I've been a patient at In Motion prior but have recently needed physical therapy for another body part. I was seen by Katie and Vicky and of course by the PT aides. Both Katie and Vicky were very personable and knowledgeable. My situation had lasted for months and was really becoming an obstacle to my daily routine. I had almost lost hope of recovering but was shocked at how I was able to get back strength and mobility after working with these ladies. The facility itself followed all the Covid guidelines and luckily by the time I "graduated ", the restrictions became less stringent per the CDC. Yay !!!! Seeing what everyone looked like without the mask was surreal. I highly recommend In Motion for anyone that has a physical ailment. My physical therapist was Madi. I was going to her for over two months for my back pain/scoliosis. She is AMAZING. She is super accommodating, personable, and great at loosening the tightness in my back. Even helped me drop a couple of pounds. Her and her assistant, Brooke, helped me come up with a workout/stretch plan to help improve my pain and back strength. Although I wasn't always up for the challenge, they were great motivators. I had knee pain from playing volleyball and my doctor asked me avoid surgery by going to PT. I was referred to InMotion OC by a coworker. Mitchelle.G conducted my initial assessment and she was super knowledgeable. She right away understood the cause of my pain and began prescribing me workouts to help alleviate it. The workouts are definitely helping. Other coaches (Matt and Vicki) have also been instrumental and they have been awesome. The coaches always ask how you're feeling and if they can tweak the workouts to make it challenging/ easier. The whole team at In Motion OC are super friendly. They always check on you to ensure that you're doing the exercises correctly and you're not experiencing pain. Several months ago, after I hurt my knee, I was on Yelp looking for a place to go to PT so I could see if I could get it back to normal. I am usually super skeptical of PT (or most doctors) and although this place was rated highly I still went in with a good amount of skepticism. I got really lucky b/c I was assigned to Christy. She was friendly and knowledgable from the start and did all these evaluations on my knee before giving me a list of exercises to begin my rehab. What I loved is that she was super flexible with everything- the number of days I would come in each week, which days, and even mentioned I could have other PT's examine me if she was unavailable. What is interesting about PT is that you go to the clinic to get evaluated, do exercises, get ultra sounds, and whatever else but then you go home and do all the exercises on your own. This starts becoming part of the routine but you don't really notice anything changing. I blinked my eyes, 6 weeks went by, and it was time for Christy to do a final eval. Crazy to me, each measurement came in as significantly better except one so I guess I progressed much quicker and better than I really expected! My point is that with the right rehab you do have a chance to improve, to avoid surgery, and although it's a process, if you're in the right hands then good things will happen. I was very happy with Christy and the team at In Motion OC- everyone was nice, courteous, and knowledgeable/experienced in helping all of us through our various injuries. If you have to consider PT then I would recommend looking into this clinic. read more

Usually you would think physical therapy would be a dreadful experience, not mine whatsoever. Had the pleasure of working with Katie who took personal time to ensure my needs were being addressed. Incredible PT clinic! I got to work with Brian who is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about exercise and is just great at what he does. He was an amazing physical therapist that really cared about helping me bounce back from my injury. He gave me a lot of great exercises to help me rehab and even improve at my sport. He explained to me the purpose of every exercise he gave me and I learned a lot from my experience working with him. The other therapists and aides are also very friendly and even gave me pointers here and there. The people who work here will give you great advice on how to do your exercises with good form especially if you ask them! This will be one of the most important reviews I have ever done. Not to go into too much back history, but I have been dealing with multiple serious injuries , combined with having Lupus. The medical doctors and hospitals told me that if I did not have surgery or take the medication they wanted me to take, that I would not have any real quality of life, and even end up in a wheelchair. Well that was in 2011, and 2016 again. I have practiced natural healing and plant based nutrition and exercise most of my life.Its a big part of saving. InMotion goes above and beyond for their clients. Not only is all the staff friendly, but they are efficient, and knowledgeable. The therapists empower you with the things you need to do outside of the clinic to continue journey towards recovery. It is very apparent that the client comes first here. In addition to amazing staff and therapists, their facility is amazing too! The bathrooms are huge with showers and complimentary candy (who doesn't love that?) and the treatment areas are always well kept! They also have fitness programs with a personal trainer to continue strengthening beyond the prescribed therapy, which is open to anyone who wants to sign up. Lastly, though I haven't needed it, it should be noted that they have aquatic therapy (not on site). Due to past experiences with other P.T. places I was leery to try again. But after reading the great Yelp reviews for In Motion I was ready to try again. What a delightful surprise to find a place that was so careful and knowledgeable in caring for my back problems. Rachel is my therapist and she is amazing. Besides being an expert therapist she is also supportive, personable and totally professional. The techs were also supportive, helpful and fun to be around even when they made me do exercises that I didn't want to do! In fact everyone in the studio were friendly and helpful. The Irvine team is awesome. I had both of my knees replaced this year. KNee #2 11 weeks after knee #1. Today I was back on my road bike and averaged 18mph 14 weeks after knee #2. My PT journey began last April when a lingering acute sciatic attack triggered my surgeon to prescribe physical therapy. On my first visit, I met my therapist, Dr. Sean Swopes. I was in pain and doubled over as I followed him (at a snail's pace) to one of the rooms for evaluation. I was pleasantly surprised while he tested my limitations, he also started to flow with explanations about why my body was in this state. I was getting my first lesson on why I'm in pain and what I can do to alleviate it. I didn't run away. I came back and committed myself to more visits. Not long after, my sciatic issue was much improved as Sean started to focus on other mobility issues I had that also contribute to my back pain. I have limitations which took decades to get there that cannot go away in a flash. With each visit, I listened as he educated me on what's going on with my body. As Sean showed me exercises, he would go into informative and compelling brain barfs. There were times when I wished I had my phone so I could record his words. No, PT is not torture. PT is being guided to push your body so you steadily get better. It got to a point where I admitted to Sean that I started to look forward to my PT sessions with him. I was noticing small improvements (victories) weekly and these improvements started to register as significant successes. Our biggest success is that I am no longer taking pain medication. When I start to feel discomfort or challenge in moving, I hear Sean's voice telling me how I can get through it. I am endlessly grateful to have landed a phenomenal Physical Therapist. I would be remiss not to mention Ethan, the PT Aide who Sean is partnered with during my sessions. Ethan is steadily absorbing Sean's brain barfs and is becoming a mini-Sean (but taller). He's a wonderful PT cheerleader, there to correct your form or help you power through your last few reps. If a good tune is playing through the speakers, you might even catch him with some dance moves as he flows from one patient to another. Early on, I spent a couple weeks at the aquatic therapy pool. It was there where another patient pointed out that Ethan looks like the character Kristoff in the movie Frozen. Although Ethan has yet to see that movie, he'll know what you're talking about if you mention Kristoff to him. Give In Motion O.C. a try. I started Physical Therapy with Preston on August 6th for a knee injury from lifting, and I had two sessions per week for six weeks. For the past four years, I went to multiple doctors and physical therapists, and none of them could figure out what was wrong with my knee and even misdiagnosed me. During my second visit, Preston was able to tell me what happened to my knee, the causes, the symptoms...everything in detail. Today was my last day, and my knee has been feeling so much stronger. It only took less than six weeks for me to deadlift again without feeling pain or discomfort in my knee. I honestly still can't believe it -- I went from putting on my knee sleeve first thing waking up in the morning just so I could go up and down the stairs to my usual routine in such a short amount of time. My experience here was so much more different than the experience I had with my previous physical therapist. Preston doesn't simply give you a list of exercises to do, but he watches you the whole time to make sure you're doing everything safely and correctly. He goes out of his way to make sure his patients are taken care of. And on top of that, he's extremely knowledgeable -- he's a physical therapist, a personal trainer, and certified in god knows how many things. No words can describe how grateful I am.
