Happy traditions. Hubs lived in the South Bay before we got married, so stopping at this In-N-Out became a routine stop either coming to or going from the city. Yes, it's a wonky location given the line of cars that they obviously didn't plan for; the parking lot/drive-thru just can't accommodate the overflow & you can end up in line around the corner & it is awkward & annoying. But, every location has this issue. Too much love for this joint, equals too many cars, equals too long a line. Champagne problems for any business. Inside is always bright, airy, & bustlin'! Honestly I avoid this completely & stick to the drive-thru. The drive-thru, incidentally, started with this company. That's the meaning behind the name. It's impossible to know how many in-n-out burgers I've had in my life, but I do know that they've never disappointed me. Not once. Going to the wharf for in n out is such a bitch. The quality at this one is pretty consistent considering it's one of the busiest in the company. Burger is the classic in n out quality that can dip during the high traffic times such as lunch and dinner. The drive thru lane is always a pain cuz for folks trying to turn right, the in n out lane can curve around into the street. One of the better In-N-Outs in the SF area. But a major factor in my low rating is the lack of traffic control and clear guidance on where the drive-thru line ends. Sometimes it wraps around the intersection and down the block, and when that happens it's nearly impossible to find the end. This is especially risky because cars are coming in fast from the nearby freeway exit. Recently they started taking orders outside of the parking lot, which has sped up the line, but it's still confusing if you don't already know the path along the public street. The line wraps like that old 90s Snake game and can block the exit lane (photo attached). The first time I came here, I accidentally "cut" because I was driving straight through the intersection and it genuinely looked like the end of the line. I didn't realize the line wraps around the block, and the next car in line hadn't caught up yet, so it looked like an open lane. As soon as I entered, drivers started honking, yelling, and threatening to hit my car. Once I realized, I let every car go ahead of me and moved to the end of the line. Even then, one customer complained to the cashier that I cut, and staff almost refused to serve me because of it. I filed a complaint with the store manager about the hazard and how this could be prevented with signs and basic traffic control. Nothing has been done. Since management isn't doing their job here, here's the solution: put up a clear "Drive-thru line ends here" sign, set out cones, and have one employee direct cars when the line runs along the public street. Patience is required as the cars slowly creep along, with orders mostly taken via the passenger side by menu placard wearing staff. simple menu, but burger customization is the norm, onions (grilled, whole grilled, etc), animal sauce on or on the side, fresh cut fries (you can see them cut and spun washed via the drive thru, real milk shakes, and prices that are reasonable. I like both grilled, and whole grilled onions on my burgers, animal sauce on the side just request it during pickup, fries at times but they never make it home, at least 1 cup of ice water to hydrate while driving, and at times a shake just because! In-N-Out has always been my fave! Service is pretty quick, and I always opt for a a cheeseburger with grilled onions and animal fries in the side. I'd recommend parking and going inside to eat in or grab to go vs waiting in the drive thru line. Drive thru is always a long line, which wraps around the stop lights, and it can get so congested in this area. Parking can be pretty tight too, I'd recommend parking by Krispy Kreme in the same area for more space. I've never seen this place empty, so it can get pretty overwhelming parking and finding a spot to sit. The last time I went, I actually just parked by Krispy Kreme and ate in my car haha. In N Out tastes a lot better when you eat it right away instead of waiting until you get home! We caught it and asked for more napkins, but the response from the person at the window seemed like he was shocked that we were asking for napkins... "More napkins??!!!" I used to not like in-n-out since I don't eat at red meat and the grilled cheese vegetarian option wasn't as tasty. However, I've learned the best way to make the grilled cheese an amazing option for vegetarians! When you order your grilled cheese add the following: extra toasted bun, double veggie, extra raw whole onion, extra pickles, extra chopped chilies and extra spread (optional). There shouldn't be any extra cost, and if there is it's pretty minimal so still a pretty cheap option as ever!! I'm not a fan of their grilled onions or animal style so I opt for the whole raw onion instead and add all the other extras. This customization makes the grilled cheese a way more tasty option, with the crispy fresh veggies and toasty buns! Even though there is no protein, it's still great. In-n-out will have a crazy wait whether you order at drive through or inside, so definitely go when you have a lot of time. I always like to get extra chilies on the side to munch on along with the burger. I also like to ask for the fries to be done light well. So they end up a little crispier than usual but not too crispy like if you get them done well. I'll put extra spread on the fries myself! I visited your establishment today at approximately 4:23 PM and was in the process of finishing my order when I noticed something concerning regarding food handling. The employee who was working on the burger toppings station rubbed his gloves on his apron after touching the vegetables and then proceeded to grab a stack of beef patties without changing his gloves. Because of the risk of cross-contamination, I mentioned this to the cashier so the employee could switch his gloves. However, the employee appeared to dismiss the concern and did not change his gloves when the cashier addressed it. Since gloves are provided specifically to maintain proper food safety and prevent cross-contamination, this was concerning to witness. I believe the employee's name was Joshua, according to the cashier when I asked.
