Having had their skewers at a pot luck and enjoyed it a lot, I always wanted to check out Fil-Am if I was in the area. I happened to be in Daly City recently and made a stop here to pick up some skewers. Found street parking around the corner. Fil-Am is a take-away restaurant with a menu consisting of BBQ chicken and BBQ pork skewers, panic, shanghai lumpias and turons. I wanted to get BBQ pork skewers and got to the last three that were in the tray. They were also out of the chicken skewers. But the chef was busy cooking as the grill was loaded with pork and chicken skewers. Not wanting to wait, I was happy that I got the three skewers. Many good-sized pieces of juicy pork make up each skewer. Generous portions. I enjoy the Filipino BBQ pork flavor as the sauce on it has a sweet taste to it. Fil Am is a highly regarded take out Filipino food restaurant. So we decided to give them a try. Very busy on a Friday evening so plan accordingly. Street parking only. Once we got a spot, while walking up to the restaurant you can smell the BBQ aromas from around the corner so we were getting excited just walking to the restaurant! Ordered Fil-Am special 2 BBQ skewer items with Pancit (noodles). Skewer options are BBQ Chicken or BBQ pork. We got one of each. They also have a ton of other Filipino specialties on the menu but looks like they are for larger party tray orders. Lumpia, Menudo, Adobo, Kare Kare etc. There's also a couple dessert items Turon, Bibingka, Biko, ube, maja blanca and Cassava to name a few. Took dinner home and chowed down. We used them for catering in February. Everyone loved the food and commented that pinakbet was one of their favorite dishes. Today we came back for pancit and two rice combo plates. I didn't think I'd like the chicken curry but it was very good. My favorite was the beef caldereta. The pinakbet was a hit as usual. The place is very small, not intended for dine-in, ordering only for to-go, cafeteria style. Parking can be challenging, you're lucky if you find street parking close by. I saved this spot to my bookmarks a long time ago but didn't try it until just recently. After reading the other reviews, I was prepared to show up at 8 AM on the dot to avoid having to wait and in order to ensure that everything I wanted was in stock. I told my boyfriend to prepare for battle as all parking would be metered, it would be a busy street, and there would very likely be a wait in line. Lo and behold, when we pull up there is no line. I jump out and run inside to find just one guy ahead of me ordering, so immediately I felt much relief and was instantly in a better mood. I get the two items with rice with two additional skewers on the side. My boyfriend wanted lumpia but unfortunately they didn't have any, possibly because it was first thing in the morning. The guy who took my order dipped the skewers that I wanted in the sauce and put them on the grill as soon as I finished talking, wrapped everything up nicely, I paid at the register and was out the door in probably under five minutes. The smell of garlic rice was wafting out of the bag on our drive home so we were super excited. After getting home, I was satisfied to see that the skewers were so big that they were sticking out of the side of the takeout box, just like the other reviewers described. I got two chicken and two pork, my boyfriend was a fan of the chicken and I preferred the pork so it worked out well. The pork definitely has some fatty pieces and reminds me a lot of the Chinese style honey bbq pork, especially with the color too. The two items with rice alone is more than enough for two people, but both the rice and meat keep in the fridge and reheat in the microwave well so there's no harm in getting extra and saving it for later. I've been coming to Fil-Am since 2012 when I first moved to Daly City, and even though I live in San Jose now, I still make the drive whenever I can. From day one, I've always been greeted with such welcoming smiles and amazing customer service, to the point where they already knew my order lol. They're mostly known for their BBQ plates (which are definitely worth the hype), but honestly all of their food is amazing.
