A friend and I realized we hadn't been out together in a while so we decided on dinner here to catch up. We decided on it because of, aside from the great food, a private parking lot and outdoor seating. We went on a Saturday evening. The weather was beautiful out (not hot for a summer night-thank goodness!) so we wanted to sit outside. We were seated and decided on starting with the caprese salad and we each ordered a bourbon espresso martini. The drinks were wonderful! The salad was so good and so fresh! A perfect summer appetizer! I ordered the pepperoni pizza and my friend ordered a pasta dish. They make their pasta and you can alway tell when a restaurant does because it's so delicate and delicious! The server who brought out our food told us about the hot honey they had that goes so well with the pepperoni pizza so he brought us each out some to try. I've had it before other places but his kindness and excitement at wanting us to try it was so kind. And it was great with the pizza! It was my first visit to In Riva; my partner had been there before. She lived a few blocks away and said the views were great and the pizza was very good. It was still quite hot outside, so we opted to sit inside. We were taken up to the second floor and had a table with a nice view of the Schuylkill River. We ordered two appetizers - Nonna's Meatballs and the Crispy Eggplant. I almost always order meatballs if they are on the menu. The first bite of a meatball was a little disappointing-it had a harder texture with a chewier bite. I know everyone has different preferences, but I prefer a softer textured meatball. I expected marinara (didn't read the description - '...with a sage veal jus') and was surprised to see a shallow dark colored sauce. The sauce had an interesting taste - lots of flavor - if the beef and pork meatball had any flavor, it was overwhelmed by the sauce. I'll say I liked the sauce for 'a change', however, I would have preferred marinara. The next appetizer was much better - the Crispy Eggplant. The rectangular shaped cuts of eggplant had been coated with breadcrumbs and crispy shallots with a hint of lemon. There were two little containers of dill yogurt for dipping. The eggplant was fresh, the breadcrumbs combined with the crispy shallots made for a delicious coating! The dill yogurt was a wonderful dip. It was an excellent appetizer. For our entree, we ordered the Mushroom Zucchini pizza with fontina cheese, thyme, truffle oil and chili flakes (I somehow 'missed seeing' the chili flakes). I don't tolerate spice and would have excluded the chili flakes, but it was a very limited amount and the heat was fine (my partner likes a little heat and loved it). The pizza was divine - large, delicious mushrooms and thin slices of zucchini covered the top, the truffle oil gave it a special flavor and the fontina cheese reminded me why I love a good 'white pizza'! As a jazz lover, I was intrigued when I saw they have live jazz music on Sundays during brunch so we stopped by to check it out. Arriving shortly after the restaurant opened, we were seated quickly and given the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. While the inside is dark, moody and well designed with an open kitchen, we decided to dine outside to get as close to the band as possible. We were greeted by a lovely dining area that has both covered seating and tables with umbrellas, all of which overlook the Schuylkill. The waitress came by quickly and took our food and drink orders but then went MIA for the rest of the time we were there. All of the service we received, including the busser, was brutally slow and nearly non-existent. With a view inside the restaurant, it seemed like there were a lot of employees but not a lot of productivity. Now onto the food... (which also took quite a bit of time to get to us despite the restaurant being pretty empty.) Breakfast Pizza ($18): Pickled peppers, crumbled sausage, mozzarella and fried egg on a neopolitan style crust. This was really good, and while it wouldn't pass the "flop test" the crust was well charred, dough was flavorful and the egg was perfectly fried with a runny yolk. 4 out of 5 stars. Classic Pancakes ($12): Butter, powdered sugar and whipped cream. These were a big let down and tasted like a boxed mix. The consistency was on the chewier side, the flavor was flat and the syrup definitely didn't taste like real maple syrup. Also, they skipped the whipped cream. 2 out of 5 stars. Eggs "Your Way" ($8): I opted for scrambled and while they came in a cute little cast iron container, for $8 I was greeted with 2 over-scrambled, under-seasoned eggs..The two small slices of oiled toast that came with it were appreciated but also lackluster and could've benefitted from a brush vs drizzle of oil and sprinkling of flaky salt. 1 out of 5 stars. Holy Smokes Cocktail ($14): A blend of mezcal, coffee liqueur and Campari. This was good but lacking a bit on the coffee flavor. 3 out of 5 stars. We waited a good 25 minutes after we finished for our waitress to finally come back to the table to check in and bring us our check, but luckily we had the band to listen to. All in all, In Riva may have the river views, but it does not quite rival the (muchhh) better brunch spots in the city. Nor does the live jazz make a strong enough case to skip the extra drive into Center City, S. Philly or the beloved Fishtown for better food and far superior service. While the music and pizza were good, I won't likely be returning anytime soon. read more

Great place to enjoy some outstanding Italian food! One piece of advice, plan ahead and make reservations because this place is popular for a reason. They offer seating both inside and outside, and we chose the patio. Great decision! We enjoyed live music while we ate, which made for a fantastic atmosphere. I started with a Dimora cocktail, made with tequila and passion fruit. It was good, but it didn't quite steal the show. Now for the food. For an appetizer we shared a couple Margarita Pizzas, they were amazing! They also brought some bread, hint save some bread to soak up all that sauce let on your pasta plate! I ordered the Short Rib Gnocchi, and it was excellent, tender short rib, pillowy gnocchi, and a flavorful herbed wine sauce that brought everything together perfectly. Someone at our table ordered the Marry Me Tagliatelle, and wow... it was so good I'm actually glad I didn't order it. If I had, I might have gotten myself into trouble with my wife after spending the entire meal talking about Marry Me Tagliatelle pasta! The Ravioli was also outstanding and definitely worth ordering. The service was top-notch. Jessie was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu, making the experience even better. If you live nearby, what are you waiting for? I've seen this place numerous times and never knew it was a restaurant. Finally a friend recommended we dine here and it was a great time. The staff was super friendly. We chatted for a bit while waiting for our table to be ready. After much debate (because everything on the menu looked so good) we ended up getting the tasting menu. Funky little place! We sat at the upstairs bar on a Saturday night. We had the place mostly to ourselves. I love the decor and energy. The bartender was running a good Playlist. He was indeed a mixologist. We enjoyed the tuxedo #2 and gold rush. Food was excellent, sausage and pepper pizza with added pepperoni and king crab spaghetti. We finished it all and we're full. The pizza had a wonderful light dough, crust was perfect. The cheese and meat were obviously high quality. The spaghetti was inventive and am excellent blend of ingredients. Yesterday I went to In Riva with a group of coworkers. The restaurant is in a convenient location as many of us live throughout the city. Their parking lot is small however there is paid parking across the street and on street parking available. The customer service was great as our server was attentive. The food was fresh and flavorful. The lunch portions are small so you may need to order multiple items. The drinks were mixed masterfully and pack a punch. read more

Ok, yes this place is a bit overpriced. But if you're just here for a drink and to chat it's worth it. The view of the river and surrounding park area is an oasis in the city. Neighborhood upscale pizza place with nice options for pizzas, pastas and entrees. Service was good, we were helped as soon as we sat down. Not pictured was the spreadable ricotta with caramelized onions with toast points. It was creamy and tasty and liked by everyone in the group. We also had the grilled, garlic shrimp. True to the name, they had a strong garlic flavor over pastina. It was very flavorful and a good portion was given. The branzino had crispy skin and the fish itself was soft and cooked to the right temp. It was served in a lemon, butter sauce that was just right. The pizzas had the little burnt bubbles in the crust that make it taste homemade. The toppings were fresh and not overpowering. The zucchini, mushroom pizza had crushed red pepper which gave it a nice zing. The sausage, pepper pizza also had a little spice to it. Came in and sat at the bar with the intent to grab a drink and order something to go. Sat down at a dirty, sticky bar with a used cocktail napkin still crumpled at my seat. Bartender skipped over me and waited on two other couples that came in after me before coming to me. Got me my drink and without wiping down the bar, set the drink on the used cocktail napkin and continued to ignore me while sharing his unsolicited bartending history with the other guests. Again, neglecting to ask if I wanted to order anything, he rambled on to the other guests long enough for me to pull out my phone and place the to go order online. Only as I finish this review has he just now come over to abruptly ask, "You want anything else right now?" Nope--I'm good. And I will not be returning. Staff needs some work, In Riva. Good, but a little overhyped. We had all heard this place was absolutely amazing and ultimately left satisfied with the food, but not wowed or anything - tbh, I don't actually remember what I got at this point. I know I got pasta but don't remember what. Additionally, the service was crazy slow and a bit disorganized - we had to order bread multiple times, which came well after the pasta, and it just seemed like a bit of a mess. We live in the neighborhood and have dined at In Riva before, but last night was our first time ordering takeout--and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. I placed an order online and went to pick it up at the outdoor drive-through. I ended up waiting over 10 minutes just to get a pizza. During that time, I spoke with four different staff members, all of whom seemed unsure of what was going on. No one apologized for the delay or acknowledged the wait, and there was no explanation provided. My company hosted our staff retreat dinner here through their group events team. Stacey and Randall were both fantastic to work with, both leading up to the event and day of. Claire (bartender) and Brooke (server) were both attentive and a joy to be around. The food was fantastic and was on a constant rotation so there was always something new and warm ready for my guests. The fried eggplant and zuchinni and mushroom pizza were massive hits (everything was but these were standout). We used the third floor for our dinner. The views of the Schuykill are second to none! There are fireplaces along the walls that provide a warm, easy-going ambiance. Along with the dark wood bar and comfortable lounge furniture in front of a tv (gameday?), it's been awhile since I've been in a restaurant that can create the exact ambience I was looking for. Parking lot is a little tricky but you can usually find spots on the street or the lot across the way. They also have Tuesday pizza specials and half off wine bottles on Sunday nights. The wildest pizza craving (and procrastination from doing my work) hit me on a Friday evening. I googled "brick oven pizza" and made it to In Riva in time for happy hour. The $12 P&B happy hour deal is top tier-- any pizza and any draft beer. Not a beer girlie, my server (who was an absolute gem) recommended Downeast cider. Delicious. As for the pizza-- since I refuse to put two baddies against one another-- I got the pepperoni AND margherita. That's right. Two ciders, two pizzas, and yes I took home leftovers. Both were delicioussss but that pepperoni-- in all its zestiness-- was a definite fave. (P.S. The pizza reheats well in an oven or air fryer on low temp.) read more

We took old friends whom we hardly ever see to In Riva on Saturday night. The four of us were seated right away, but waited a bit for water and other drinks. We ordered and our server, Brooke, served drinks and then 3 out of four entrees. Roughly 30 minutes later three of us were finished eating, whereas our 4th still waited for her scallops. We asked for the check. Although my unserved friend was quite graceful about not eating, I was totally embarrassed and upset. It had been my idea to dine there. We had to remind our server that diner number 4 was still waiting. Brooke apologized, and even though the manager did not charge us for any of the dinners, our evening was truly a shambles. We would have preferred to pay full price and get four dinners!Brooke had failed us, and no apology would change that. I am still aghast at such service. read more

The aesthetics is chill and if you do find yourself outside just know you will have bees. Let them Be! Everything went well. Don't live far from here and always come when I have a taste for guaranteed goodness. The menu isn't large and that's great because the few things on there are done to perfection. I always experiment with cocktails and entree pairings but the charred octopus is my staple appetizer. Parking in the front is ample and the prices are reflective of the quality. Wait staff is attentive without being overbearing and the vibe is light and airy. Spacious digs with outdoor seating and dog accommodations outside as well. You can't be disappointed with the seasonings and although dessert isn't on the menu the do have a couple things the wait staff can riddle off without a stutter. Love it read more

Update after visit 2: Made it back for half off pizza night and definitely enjoyed the experience more. Ranking all 4 pizzas we tried between the two visits Id say the zucchini mushroom truffle was by far the best followed by the picante, bianco, and margherita in that order. In the future Id return for the pizza, even not on Tuesdays though the half off is a terrific deal. Tried this place on a Saturday night for dinner and sat outside facing the river. There's plenty of seating and we didnt need to wait at all, and its a great spot to have a meal outside, weather permitting. We ordered the crab spaghetti, margherita pizza, and charred octopus app. Overall everything was solid though nothing really stood out as outstanding. Each dish including the app ran about 20$ a plate, which given current restaurant pricing isnt too shabby. However, between the two of us Id say I left still a touch hungry and it wouldve been nice if the portions were a little larger. The octopus in particular was only three slightly-larger than bite size pieces and the pasta seemed like it wouldve been great had it been twice as large. Service here was also just a little slow, wouldnt recommend if youre in a rush, though the ambience was pleasant and weather nice for sitting a little bit outside. Overall, id probably rate the experience around a 3.5, but Im planning on returning to take advantage of their tuesday happy hour/half off pizza specials. The pizza was probably the best part of tonight's meal, and Im hopeful that some of their other pizzas and cocktails will impress! read more

I appreciated the vibe of In Riva- folks seemed to be enjoying themselves and the servers were attentive (but not too!) The Ballerini cocktail was dangerously good, I could have kept drinking them all night. The food was decent but I guess I expected more: 1. Arugula and mushroom salad- we thought the mushrooms would be cooked- they were just freshly cut up. It would have given the salad more flavor. The rest of it was fine. 2. The burrata was good, but it had a lot of olive. When we ordered the Branzino, we requested olives on the side, but there wasn't a note about there being olives in the burrata so we didn't ask. So one of us couldn't eat the whole dish. 3. As for the burrata, I am glad we asked for the olives on the side because it was a very salty (yummy) mix. The fish wasn't mindblowing, it was good though. One thing that I really appreciated is that when we got to our table, the people next to us were quite loud, and I couldn't hear my wife. And the seat cushions were lopsided, so sitting was uncomfortable. When I asked to move, it happened immediately, and the meal was so much more enjoyable than it would have been otherwise. So we stopped eating takeaway Pizza for a while... Today, we found a reason to order it again. We tried the pepperoni pizza, whipped ricotta and garlic shrimp. ALL OF IT WAS GOOD The pizza reminded me of what I had in Napoli. I said reminded because the char & chewy crust were similar. Pepperoni was a lil salty for me but we still enjoyed it. The shrimp were cooked well, not rubbery or burned. So tasty. The whipped ricotta with crispy & sauteed onions, yummy. The prices are a bit too much in relation to portion sizes & comparable eateries. This is a nice once in a while treat. So, go treat yourself. read more

So disappointing! I had been there with a group several times and the food and service were great. I went yesterday with my husband for lunch. We were seated quickly, but then no one came to the table. No drink order. No food order. Not even to say that they would be with us. The people at the next table who came in after us were given water, drink order, and food order. The bartender and another employee pointed over at us, but still no service, not even water. Love this place and their handmade food! The pizzas are delicious- roasted broccolini is amazing and their cocktails are spot on. It's busy so make a reservation before you go. Met a friend here for lunch on a Friday and had a lovely time. We arrived at 130ish so right after the lunch "rush" so there weren't any tables available but just had to wait a few moments for a party to wrap up. There weren't any parking spots in the lot adjacent to the restroom i parked in the public lot across the street which was fine. We started with the whipped ricotta which was OK and then I got the bucatini and she got the Caesar salad. Both were good made better with great company.
