I love this place! The cocktails, the staff, the art, the food and the rooftop deck make this such a cool unique spot. There are 3 floors with three separate gorgeous eating areas and 3 full service bars. I loved the decorative tequila bottles and the aesthetic of each floor. Definitely worth taking time to explore. We stopped by before catching an amazing show at Fallser Club. We were pleasantly surprised to receive an extra 10% discount on our food by showing our tickets. We had cocktails and got our food to go to eat at the venue. You won't find food pictures from me in this review because due some dietary restrictions my food wasn't packaged as it usually is served. For the next show we will be going early and eating onsite to fully enjoy all Cresta has to offer. We will also make sure to sit on the 3rd floor rooftop level to enjoy the view where the very large windows are opened to enjoy the fresh air when Mother Nature cooperates. Back to to the food and drink. The cocktails are unique, gorgeous and delicious. Each one crafted with garnishes like fresh orange peel and pineapple leaves. Cocktails can be ordered with sugar, salt, or tajan on the rims. I highly recommend the apple cider margarita and the La Kartina hibiscus cocktail. The photos don't even do them justice. I ordered the plantains, deconstructed veggie tacos and a side of Al pastor chicken. I also had a side of the guacamole. The guacamole was so fresh and flavorful and I loved the cheese added to the top. The chicken was flavorful, well seasoned and very colorful. The plantains were the perfect level of sweetness. Now, about that the art! I loved the decor and art. The art around the restaurant and the tshirts employees wore were designed by a bartender who I didn't get to meet. The murals were so colorful and detailed. One was more beautiful than the next. I found a very cool selfie mirror on the 2nd floor that I loved! The artist's insta handle was on the wall as well and is included in my photos. From an accessibility standpoint, the second and third floors can only be reached by stairs and may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. It was my first night in Philly and all my plans got rearranged and I found myself with some time to burn and a hunger that was burning inside. LoL! Taking the time to scroll through my phone, I decided to do a date night. Though it was Thursday, if you know me you know Tacos are my love language. Deciding to do a Taco date I hopped on Yelp to see what was in the area. After a few scrolls and top review reads, I decided to head to "Taqueria Cresta" to see what it was all about. Arriving at Taqueria Cresta was cool as it sits directly off the main street. Walking in, you get the feel of a neighborhood bar, however, when you get towards the back, there is a Mexican decor deliverable that transforms the entire space... Greg welcomed us in and assisted us with seating. I opted for a table as I would be able to enjoy the sights. Once seated, Greg welcomed us again and briefed us on the menu options and made some recommendations. Starter: Tortilla and Salsa - this dish comes with 3 salsa options. I decided to get the base mild sauce, the pico de gallo, and I let Greg choose the third one and he decided to hit me with the Hibiscus salsa... The mild salsa is mild and bland. There was no true flavor profile to it at all. The Pico was fresh, flavorful, and spot on. The Hibiscus salsa changed my lifeeeeeeee... Though the fact that it was purple had me scared at first, the flavor profile of the salsa is amazing. There is a hint of heat and sweet, and best of all, the flavor profile is robust and has a secret 'hmmm' that hits you after you finish chewing and presents an added flavor excitement in the form of an after taste. For the record, I have never had this salsa before, but now I feel as though I have to ask for it everywhere I go. It was the bombbbbbbbbb! Entree: BIRRIA TACOS * Beef birria, melted cheese, corn tortillas, side of consome. The Birria tacos were smaller than I am accustomed to, however, what they lacked in size, they made up for in flavor. Them things were hittinnnnnnn. Fresh ingredients, amazing flavor, tender meat, juicy meat, and the consomeeeeeeeeeeee... One word... BUSSIN!!!! For the record... there were no crumbs left on my plate! Taqueria Cresta was an amazing experience. If I am ever in the area again I will definitely stop in again. Awesome spot! The tacos (smoked tofu, steak) were yummy and I really loved their non-alcoholic paloma. Definitely try the hibiscus salsa, the smooth thick texture combined with sweet fruity heat was amazing! Service was prompt & they came over the perfect amount-- they were not asking how we were every 5 minutes which I appreciate lol. All of the folks who served our table were really kind! I am so excited to have this spot open up right around the corner from my house. You don't have a lot of good restaurants in this area. Le Bus is good, In Riva went down hill after the flood and black squirrel suxxx. So thank you so much for opening and on top of that it is delicious! My favorite part was the lime mousse with cookie crumbles. That was one of the best deserts I've had. We also got Churros which were perfectly crispy. We started with pineapple Guacamole. That was delicious. Not a large dish though. Which actually turned out to be a good thing since everything else was so large. We both got margaritas. Mine non alcoholic and hers alcoholic. Mine was excellent. She didn't think hers was alcoholic enough. I got the Cemita with the slow roasted pork. It was something I've never seen at any other Mexican restaurant. The food was delicious. Served promptly, hot, and good portion sizes. I enjoyed two different margaritas, shrimp tacos, and beans and rice. They have a bar area downstairs and tables and another bar upstairs. Our server answered our questions without having to go check on anything. The staff are pleasant and welcoming. Definitely a place I will return to. There is free street parking but it can be scarce due to this restaurant being in a residential neighborhood that is also popular for bikers, runners, and walkers. I really like this place. The ambience is terrific. It has some great art and a great indoor outdoor vibe. The staff are friendly and helpful and they know the menu well so they can make recommendations if you'd like. I've tried a number of things on the menu and there hasn't been anything that I don't like. I've even slipped in for a drink and had a wonderful cocktail. I just feel like it's too expensive. I travel a lot and have a lot of dining experiences and while everything about this place is good. It just costs too much. read more

I really wanted to like this place. We came opening week and were underwhelmed but thought they could get it together. For the price the quality and overall flavors fall super short. I had the enchiladas that were both too spicy and too sweet. My boyfriend had the brisket tacos which he said were so shockingly devoid of flavor he didn't finish them. Having lived in Arizona for some time and enjoying Mexican food it's difficult to be satisfied with tacos and Mexican in general on the East Coast. Acknowledging this bias I decided to upgrade my rating to two stars from one just to be fair. Firstly there was a $6 charge for chips and some of the least flavorful "salsa" I've ever had. This includes ALL of the salsa you might buy at a regular grocery store AND anything I've ever been served in a restaurant. The "salsa" was served with chips that were clearly made in house and were not of an appreciable quality. Since I just got paid I decided to try the guacamole also (see picture) for an additional $13.50. It was not well spiced or even very flavorful. It was just a small mashed up avocado with some onion added. Trying to salvage the meal I decided to have another not particularly cold draft beer for $8 but despite the place not being very busy at 8 on a Friday night I couldn't find my server so the bartender (who I hailed from across the room) came over to help me with my second beer. We ordered Birria tacos, which weren't bad, but were nowhere close to any of the local food trucks from which you would get a tastier and larger portion. My steak tacos reminded me in no way of any of the tacos I ever had in Arizona, California, or Mexico and were an overall letdown compared to the Burrito Feliz food truck for instance. Somehow.. the tacos were only a dollar more than the 13$ unseasoned guacamole. Just avoid this place. I live close and i desperately wanted it to be a go to spot. It's not. It's a don't go to spot for sure. Just go to Plaza Azteca... salsa is complementary, servings are big, food is tasty, beers are icy.... Trust me. read more

I ate at Cresta 17 days straight (except for Mondays when they're closed). I've requested they carve my name somewhere...we'll see. I live AND work in East Falls, so I was THRILLED to have a new restaurant and coming from Oklahoma...excited for Mexican!!! I started with the Chicken Tinga Tacos and have had them innumerable times since! LOVE 'EM! Then I tried the Steak Tacos but preferred the Chicken Tinga! The (grilled) Shrimp Tacos gave the Tinga a run for the money so it's a solid go-to! Hot and poppin'! If you're a brisket fan the Brisket Tacos are a family favorite! Then I moved on to the Vegetarian Tacos and LOVED them ALL! Taco craving fully satiated I moved on the Enchiladas and the chicken won again, so I tried the Chicken Tinga Burrito and then the Grilled Chicken Burrito and was surprised to do a 3-day streak on the Grilled Chicken Burrito. I don't do salads, so I just started back on the tacos. It was my favorite 17 days of my life. By the way, if I'm eating with someone I'll try the appetizers...LOVE the fresh chips and array of salsas (put that verde on EVERYTHING)! The Guac is great, fresh and creamy! 3 kinds so you can find your fave! Finally, maybe my favorite thing on the menu is the Mexican Street Corn...get it spicy if you like it that way...they can bring the heat! And I didn't even write about beverages!!! I'd say it was really very tasty, however, the entree didn't come up with any rice or beans which would have really rounded out the meal.
