I supported In Riva many times during the pandemic. I fell in love with their Margarita pizza and Bronzino. We got a take out order last night and was very disappointed. I suspect they may have a new chef because the food has taken turn for the worst. The pizza tastes nothing like the last time I had a Margarita pizza from there, which was about a year ago. Other than the saltiness, I could not put my finger on it, but I would not order another one. The Bronzino use to be prepared with capers, olives and lemon. Now, it has a layer of slivered garlic and capers. Way too much garlic and overpowering. Even removing the garlic could not save the meal. The only part of the meal that was enjoyed was the Arugula salad. I have no plans on dining at In Riva again, which is sad because I was fond of dining on their patio. read more

In Riva offers a few eye-catching toppings, which made it hard for people like me to choose. I ended up with the sausage and peppers topping, and I must say that it's a damn good decision. I normally prefer my pizzas thick and saucy, so imagine my surprise when I find myself falling in love at the first bite of the thin crust slice that's oozing with sizzling cheese and meaty goodness. Someone mentioned hating the pizza here since it's too soggy for their taste, but for me, it's just right. I'm not a fan of dried cardboard-like pizzas, so the saucier it is, the better. I felt like I was in a momentary pizza-bliss zone from the first bite to the last, and I can't stop thinking about it even now. Ambience-wise, this place is perfect for a nice date or casual hangout with a group of friends. The patio seating option is great since it comes with the view of the schuylkill river. The restaurant also offers their own parking lot, but space may be very limited on a busy day. As others suggested about the pricing discrepancy between what's on the menu vs what's being charged on the bill, make sure you get that squared away before the end of the meal to prevent any surprises. read more

I'm not sure why I've never reviewed In Riva. I have been here a number of times over the years. It is a mandatory stop when biking the river trail. I have biked here with friends and my daughters. Getting off the path is a quick crossing of the street with a readied bike rack right off of the most beautiful large outside dining area. After riding from West Philly, parking the bike and getting a table on the beautiful deck, ordering drinks and good food is a delight. My latest obsession is the bianco verde pizza. It is covered with garlicky arugula pesto and is a texture explosion with red onion and almonds. It's delicious. My favorite cocktail is the Binda. It is the most perfect summer drink with vodka, coconut and pineapple. You can order it frozen if you like it like that. The salads are delicious (try the Caesar and add anchovies! You won't be sorry!) and the antipasto menu is also very good! They have specials throughout the week with a great happy hour. After we sip and stuff ourselves we hop back on our bikes and ride back to West very happy! read more

In Riva is hard to rival for happy hour and dinner in East Falls--or anywhere along the Schuylkill for that matter. I always get great service. The drinks--cocktails and beers being personal favs--are fantastic. The food is consistently yummy. In Riva has a lot of routes to satisfaction and satiation. I've tried many of the apps, big plates, pasta dishes, and pizzas. All wonderful, especially the whipped ricotta, meatballs, octopus, bucatini, and branzino. Pizza+Pups= Party. Super cute Italian place with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, their outdoor patio is heated which is nice as we head towards the winter. They have a Happy Hour 4pm to 6 pm Monday to Friday so we were able to get a couple of drinks in! For the food we decided to go with the Spicy chicken Parm and the Margherita Pizza. The spicy chicken Parm was unlike any other I've ever tasted, for starters it was dark meat on the bone, the sauce was spicy and since I prefer dark meat I loved it ! The Margherita pizza was good, fresh however it was charred black in the bottom, so slightly overdone. Such a great artisan style pizza place. The restaurant is a really dark place, great for a date night! I started off with a cocktail, I got the Dos Ros which had rose, strawberry and basil. Very tasty! For my pizza I got the sausage and peppers but I added pepperoni to it and I don't advise to do it cause it made it salty. They had it as sausage and peppers on the menu for a reason so take it the way it was listed for flavor purposes. My friend got the margherita pizza and sticky pork ribs that had a nice kick to them. I don't know what that sauce was but it was great! I want to go out to try their patio seating which looked like the place to be that night, but instead we sat inside. It was a Friday night so the place was kinda packed, parking situation wasn't ideal either, the lot infront of the place runs out of spots and you have to go to the paid lot across the way. read more

Nice spot for outdoor dining at the bottom of East Falls across Kelly Drive from the Schuylkill River! The bridge overtop provides decent shade, even to the seats without umbrellas, and, at least on the Saturday we went, there's a farmer's market in the parking lot across the street with live music, which adds a certain ambiance. Decent wood-fired pizza (the soppressata pizza was the omnivores' favorite, though the cipollina pizza was a close second with plenty of peppery arugula!) and tasty looking appetizers (we didn't order any, but saw many delivered to neighboring tables, who said they were good). Only saw one server who was masked and the tables (outside, too) weren't six feet apart, but we felt OK dining outside. read more

Came here for business meetings as it was highly recommended by a few people and a good central location to meet my colleague. Post Covid there is ample outdoor seating and pre Covid there were sufficient tables but very often required a wait if reservations were not made. The staff is very welcoming and the experience is warm and cozy. As I was running late in arriving and the drink specials were ending the wait staff was able to put my drink order in and poured it once I arrived, that is ALWAYS a plus! While having the meeting the waiter came around to make sure our drinks were steady flowing and knew just when we were ready to order our food. We ordered a few pizzas to share. It was at that moment that I realized why this place was highly recommended. The pizzas were delicious, the crust was perfect and the toppings were perfectly distributed. I used to love this place. I finally returned here after years since COVID and I've got to say our whole party was severely disappointed with the food. I don't know if chefs changed or what but our meal was not enjoyable at all. Pasta still appears to be made in house, but all of our pasta dishes tasted like MUSH. The texture felt like regurgitated noodles and was quite possibly the worst pasta we've ever had. Also, many of the items on the menu became SPICY, even though the menu doesn't even say it! Pizza? Spicy (and salty for some reason). Pasta? Spicy. Even the burrata salad was spicy! What?! Unfortunately since nothing on the menu signified the items would be spicy, my son (or my husband) couldn't eat anything there. The food was good. The pizzas were a little underdone and floppy. The crab pizza had way too many ingredients on top. The one thing that got me was the additional charges on each dish we ordered. Everything on the menu is listed as the exact dollar amount but the check has a few extra cents next to each dish (this is before tax). This adds a few extra dollars at the end of the meal. Why not just round up? Or throw a disclaimer that the extra cents will go to BOH wages. It's just dishonest, and not cool. Anyone willing to pay $17 for a margarita pizza will pay $18. I do think the broccolini is overcooked for a little bit as I preferred a crunch. Quattro Formaggi - Nice crust, well combined and will try the Margherita next time. Sticky Pork Belly - We liked the texture, crusty and tender. Not sure how we feel about the sauce. Today my guest and I ordered two pizzas, Quattro Formaggi (four cheese, tomato conserva, ricotta, basil) and Cipolla (roasted onion, smoked bacon, balsamic, arugula) and Caprese appetizer. The pizza did come out before the appetizer, but all the food was delicious. It mad my guest's first time there and they really enjoyed it. We dined inside, but today would have been a beautiful day to eat outside. I recommend everyone give this place a try if you are in the East Falls area. Been going here for few years for lunch on the way back home from the Zoo with my toddler son. Finally now that COVID is over and working from home I was able to try happy hour and see my friend I have not seen in a couple of years.Got there @5 pm and the parking lot ( holds may be 20 cars was filled. Unfortunately when you pull in you have to back up if all the spots are filled. Lucky there is a paid public lot next to the restaurant $2.50 hour. Use the app - it took forever to finally take my credit card payment after 2 tries. Walking into the restaurant 6 friendly employees welcomed me and offered help. I walked through the packed restaurant and met my friend on the patio table under the overhang. Tables also had umbrellas. A wait staff came by right away to take my drink order - all alcoholic beverages on the drink menu was discounted. I had a rose sangria with strawberry and basil - delish and refreshing. We shared the margarita pizza - the best crust ( chewy and soft) and sweet sauce with Buffalo mozzarella - I had to stop my self from overeating - it's my #1 pizza now! It was 91 degrees out side but I enjoyed ambiance is so delightful out on the patio with the the Schuylkill River in view. We are definitely spoiled in terms of Neapolitan pizza options in the city, which is probably why In Riva didn't shine as much as we had hoped. The pizza looked so good when it came out, with that wonderful leoparding you'd expect, but it was so incredibly thick and filling. My wife and I never have trouble finishing two Neapolitan pizzas in a sitting because they're typically so thin in the middle, but we could only forcefully get through one-and-a-half pizzas at In Riva, having to leave the rest behind since we had rode our bikes out there. Their pizzas certainly look the part of a Neapolitan, and are very photo-worthy, but the dough simply overwhelms the whole pie when you pick up and bite into a slice. The sauce on the Margherita also just didn't work for us, tasting a bit too metallic, but pizza sauces are subjective, so to each their own. Their meatballs were fine, albeit small, and the cocktail I got was simple and refreshing, but basically an Italian soda with some gin. These are mostly more observations than pure complaints, though. The service was fine, and their patio is really nice. Being right next to the bike trail will always make it a tempting spot to pop into, but if we get a pizza again, we will simply make sure to only order one, avoid their red sauce, and adjust our expectations a bit. Overall, In Riva isn't a bad spot, it's simply going up against some of the top pizza places we've enjoyed in the city and didn't come out on top. Maybe next time! Enjoy! read more

Upstairs is open!!!! Been coming here for years. Great atmosphere, food and service. Best dish on the menu is Branzino. The pizza here is always a great choice if you like fire roasted style. Prefacing this by saying I LOVE the design theme featuring bicycles and cycling! So, In Riva is In Style! It was pretty busy on this weekday evening but we were able to snag one of the last few tables available on the deck. I was impressed by the menu and excited about its offerings. It's simplistic featuring Italian with modern twists. The plates are designed for sampling and sharing and are small in size. It's definitely not hearty eats or a sweatpants inspired meal. To get started, our table ordered Arugula Mushroom Salad and Tomato Conserva. The salad was my favorite dish of the evening. It was dressed perfectly with a tangy dressing. It was light and refreshing and just a great way to start a meal. Next was the conserva which was good but edged too close to hipster territory for me. The tomato mixture was served in a jar along side the crostini. While I appreciate the power of spooning what I deem an appropriate amount of tomato atop my bread, it just seemed a bit unnecessary. Also, after the first couple of spoonfuls, the Parmesan cheese was gone. Let's save the playing with food for children. Otherwise, a tasty starter with a nice sharp bite of balsamic and sweetness. After the starters were polished off, we ordered a variety of pasta dishes. My pick was the angolotti. It's flavors were spot on! The fresh peas proved to be a wonderful accompaniment for the rich cream sauce. Here's the thing, though... the portion was appetizer size. I understand that this place specializes in small bites, but I expected a bit more for a second course. Realistically, I could've eaten two plates of these pasta dishes. It's more of a tasting than a filling meal. It was the first time in my life that I went home and raided my fridge post Italian. But the flavors really are solid. My family ordered a plate of gnocchi as well as linguini w/ clams. All dishes equally impressive on taste while small in size. Before we could request our check, we eagerly requested the modest dessert offerings. Decided to go with the trio of cannolis. Pistachio, chocolate, and lemon minis were passed around. They were a nice after dinner treat. Pistachio was my fav. I'd definitely come again because the food and service are both good despite being a tad pricey given the small servings.
