Avoid In-Shape on White Lane if you value professionalism, transparency, and quality facilities. The staff here is unhelpful, unprofessional, and poorly trained. The manager refuses to return calls if you have a complaint, and there's no customer service number to escalate issues. Overcharging is common, and even after canceling, you may still be charged. Refunds aren't processed back to your card but are sent as a check in the mail, which is absurd in 2025. The gym itself is outdated and poorly maintained. The showers are old and uninviting, the sauna stays broken for weeks at a time, and repairs for other equipment take forever. Compared to other gyms, this location is sad and feels neglected. What's worse, the staff and management dance around answers, and you'll hear a different explanation every time you call. This lack of consistency and accountability is infuriating. Over charging and not even delivering... I use to love it here but now they never have any dumbbells on the racks they're mostly all missing even when you go looking they're just non existent! This gym is very large! The equipment is well lai d out. Even during peak times you don't have to wait for machines like elliptical or treadmill. I really appreciate all the sanitizer bottles and wipes that are sprinkled throughout. I've only done one class there but it was great. Pros: large gym facility with many different options for work out. Cons: DIRTY GUNKY floor in the sauna..That thing needs a good scrubbing. It's so disgusting, I only come to this location with my neighbor to work out with her, the last two times have been such a disappointment. Some of the machines are wobbly and not worth using, there are hardly any disinfectant sprays in the weight area to clean the machine after use and the only cleaning towel is drenched so much so I know its been the only one used for only God knows how long. This review isn't so much about the gym but it is about the people that go to the classes. I got to Zumba 15 minutes early because I have really poor vision and if I'm not towards the front I can't see what's going on and I don't want my glasses at Zumba. Class starts at 8:30 and by 815 I'm already getting people telling me where I can and cannot stand at in the class. People think they own the floor because they were in that spot yesterday. I'm getting ugly remarks I'm getting yelled out from across the room and I'm getting accused of stealing somebody's fan which I don't stand under the fan because I hate the fan on me while I'm working out. I was 6 foot away from everybody and still some old blonde lady tried to tell me what to do. 30 minutes into the class a woman came over to stand under the fan for a second and she had to apologize to her because she said it was "her air". What in the hell kinds of mental patients come here??? The photo that I have shows my black water bottle on the ground where I intended to stand/dance. The woman standing there was the one that had a huge problem with my existence. Now I know people have a problem with "new students" nobody likes to share anything. And they like to make new people feel inferior. But I'm not new I just don't go to this gym often. And in fact I used to work for this company so when I go to the other locations people are nice. I'm not easily bullied so I stood my ground. But this doesn't look good for any other new students that may come to the class in the future because this is how they will be treated. This place is trash. There's a young woman at the front so concerned with flirting with the guy she is talking to, she doesn't even bother with eye contact. I was visiting from out of town and am currently working out and joining a gym in Fresno but Bakersfield doesn't have the gym that I go to so I decided to try the 7 day free trial while I was in town so that I could workout. As soon as I walked in I already knew I was going to like it. It it 3X the size of my gym and it was fresh! As in it didn't feel stuffy like some gyms can feel. Staff was great and friendly. So much equipment and I loved that they had a sauna and hot tub! Something my gym doesn't offer. Too bad I was only visiting, I would have totally joined. A co-worker and I decided that we were going to start working out. We saw a great Black Friday deal and jumped on it. We immediately started going every morning around 4:30. I went to this gym for a year and cancelled my membership because it was overpopulated and the weights were never racked. It also smelled bad, like feet, sometimes. Pros: near my house, very big, kids place, indoor pool and hot tub, the staff is VERY nice, plenty of different places to work out (although when it was packed, it was a different story) and it's affordable. The no contract is for all shapes but also a pro. Bathrooms fairly clean and plenty of them. Cons: overpopulated, smelled bad, weights never racked or missing, messy, no space to work out sometimes, noisy, creepy guys (which gym staff can't control but yea), girls taking over certain parts of the gym with their friends & hogging all the weights, cockroaches in the locker room. I know there's more but that's all I can think of right now. I just couldn't do it anymore. I literally walked in to workout one day and left the gym within 10 mins, without a membership lol. I've switched over the in shape seven oaks now & I really like it. It's more pricey but I get the VIP package and it's much less packed. I'm happy here so far. read more

I like this gym! They have a lot of locations and I really dig the group fitness classes! But I really wish they had more classes at a better variety at times! Eh, this gym has issues. Today (6/11/17) the gym was supposed to open at 6AM. It didn't open until 6:21AM because, and I quote, "Housekeeping didn't show up." Well, I'm sorry but that's not my problem; hire reliable people. This seems to happen rather frequently across all of the In-Shape Gyms and it's happened to this facility (White Lane) already twice this year. I'll give the cleanliness of this gym a 4/10. There are roaches in the women's bathroom and hair and grit along the side of the pool. Maintenance here has a lot to be desired also. The hip abduction machine has been broken for at least a month. This is unacceptable. If you need a pool, then the In-Shape may be worth your time and money. If you don't need a pool, look at the other gyms in the area. Most of these other gyms are cleaner and they maintain their equipment. Edit: I almost forgot to add, there is a phone number listed to call if there is a delayed opening. I called the number, entered the correct extension and received the answering service for an In-Shape Modesto location. Real pro here, guys. read more

Lately the gym is one it with keeping the gym clean and the customer service is the Best! I enjoy being Greeted at the door by Desiree, Marisol, Maykool and Mario. They always make me feel welcomed and like family. Thats what makes this gym the BEST and ofcourse the encouragement is Great! My trainer Ocie always checks on me even on days hes not training with me. :) Rob is very helpful and I appreciate him setting me up with Ocie!! The facility itself is nice, but unfortunately both the people that workout here and the people that work here are NOT first class peeps (to say the least). There used to be an upstairs section that was a "Women's area" but they did away with that a long time ago. So now guys come grab weights from the rack upstairs and take it elsewhere. Weights tend to be scattered everywhere due to ghetto ass people not returning them. I overhear the workers giving tours saying that they have people do rounds to return weights in their proper places, but I've only seen them do rounds when there are tours taking place. Fitness classes offered: they have quite a few classes offered but tend to get pretty packed. The most popular one is perhaps ZUMBA with MIKE (THE BEST ZUMBA INSTRUCTOR IN BAKERSFIELD). The ripped class is also awesome. Some classes require a stamp for entry b/c they have a occupancy limit (so get there early and line up). Sauna, Steamroom, Pool area: I love the sauna, but depending on when you go, it can get pretty packed. The steamroom sometimes feels like a breeding ground for MRSA or other infections. And yes--the pool is filthy at times. I often see little kids in there and we all know what that means. haha. Locker-rooms: the female locker rooms have 2 rooms for changing, but people often claim it while they are showering by putting their stuff in it, closing the door, and then showering. I can't tell you the number of times I've opened a door with someone else's stuff in it. I swear one of these days I'm gonna just take their shit and move it to teach them a lesson. For some reason, they now also have "Reserved" lockers you can rent for "as low as $10." So now it's a little more difficult finding a top locker, but that's not really a big deal. Trainers: the trainers have a lot of free time and are often talking amongst themselves and/or checking girls out. Once in a while they will approach someone randomly while working out or after a workout class. I've noticed that they are more attentive with the attractive and young females while the not so hot peeps are put on the treadmill and left there for a few minutes. Cleaning staff: I will say that the cleaning staff (two older ladies) are great, hard working, and friendly. Too bad the rest of the staff lack those qualities. Front desk: I came in there was only one person up front and she was tending to 3 other customers to the far left (by the exit). She looked at me for a second without so much as a "I'll be with you in a little bit." Well I stood there for like 3 minutes before I decided I would just walk on in. It was then she turns and GIVES ME A DIRTY LOOK and says, "I'll be right with you." This girl took my card to scan and as I held my hand out to retrieve it from her, she basically threw that shit on the counter. To the girl named DESIREE at the front desk: you are obnoxious and don't deserve to be dealing with people (Don't let me catch you in a dark alley... jk.......not really....haah.) Also a blonde girl tried tricking me on a towel deal by saying, "We have a free towel upgrade today, would you like to sign-up?" As I was signing papers she was like, "this is free until October" so naturally I was like, "Oh, how do I cancel it?" She replies with, "Oh, well if you cancel there's a $25 fee." This trick would never have told me about that fee if I didn't ask how to cancel the service. If I would have just taken the "free til october" and asked her in october to take it off my account I would have gotten suckered into paying the $25. Conniving snakes I tell ya. read more

The pool is always dirty. It's been like that for over a year - so cloudy you can't see the bottom. Even the instructors won't get in the water. Some of the people that go there look and act pretty shady. I've had family quit because of the type of people that frequent this location. Lots of disrespect for the rules and lacking in common courtesy and hygiene. The classes lack variety. They stick to the latest fads. All of the classes I like have slowly been cancelled, and while they weren't so packed you needed to wait in line and get a stamp (who has time for that?!!) they were far from empty. I have a InShape membership and I normally go to the California Blvd location, but this one time I decided to try a different scenery and workout at the white lane location... I got into the room where they normally have classes, the room was empty, so I decided to start my workout... I have A 45 lbs plate with me, and then an employee which seemed to be a janitor approached me and told me I couldn't have the plate in that room. I respected his wishes and took the plate out the room. But after that, 3 different employees came in the room, stood there and watched me start and finish my workout!!! The most uncomfortable shit ever!!!! I couldn't even workout as hard as I wanted to because how uncomfortable I was being watched! I'll never step foot in that location again! read more

Wasn't sure what to expect from this location. I'm not very familiar with what each level stands for but all I know is this is a Gold Level gym. Much like the other In-Shapes in town, the entrance is open and you are greeted by a nice person who scans your pass. There is a juice bar right behind the main desk just like at the coffee location. There is seating in the middle of the building where you can chat and relax. It is a two story location, like the others, where the 2nd floor has TRX, the 29 minute circuit, and I guess a women's section. There was a section that I had never seen in other In-Shapes. There was an area that had measurements on the wall to see how high you can throw a medicine ball, the "ladder" drawn on the floor, and some other things. I really enjoyed this section, just wish I used it more. The janitorial staff does a great job of keeping everything sanitary. I just wish they changed the wiping cloth out more often. As I was leaving I noticed there was a VIP section area. I assume that's where they do their tanning and things. Not exactly sure. Only reason I came to this location was because my sister has training here. Since it's far from where I live I probably won't be coming to this location often, though it is a nice location. read more

Been going to this gym for a while. Just want to warn people that your car will be hit by other vehicles/people. I had my car parked on New Years day and when I get home I realized my car was hit on the passenger side. It looked like some other vehicle hit it. I did the report with gym and with police dept. Nothing has been done on either end..I contact the manager of the gym and didn't even bother to contact me after I left message to find out if the police went to review cameras. It's really disappointed to know that's how members of the gym get treated from the staff(manager). I just want to warn other people that people are shitty and will damage your car. Okay, In-Shape is a really nice gym. It's always clean and it smells fresh. On top of that, there is always someone cleaning the equipment, mopping the floors etc. The customer service is always good, they make it point to greet all gym member upon entering and exiting. BUT the only problem I have with In-Shape is the fact that none of their facilities are open during holidays or they close early. That is not okay because everyone don't celebrate holidays, but more importantly, members pay at monthly fee and regardless of the holidays, they should always be open during regular business hours. read more

I recently joined In-Shape and I must say, I love it! There is a lot of equipment and the staff are helpful, but I particularly like the classes and their instructors - they keep me motivated. At In-Shape I was introduced to Barre as led by Condy, and that is now my new favorite class (followed by Body Pump). Condy is fantastic! She makes her classes so much fun, Barre in particular. I have been working out for 25 plus years, I have been in many different gyms all over the country and this is the dirtiest gym that I have been in. I don't only blame the staff but, I blame the members as well. Some members cannot do a simple task as putting their used paper towels in the trash; they just throw them on the floor or sink, same with their used towels on the floor and not in the bend. You have members getting in the pool wearing only underwear, and they leave empty plastic bottles all over the gym including the steam room. Maybe In-Shape needs to start treating these people like kids, put a stop to all plastic bottles, make them bring in their own towels, if they want to use the pool ask to see a bathing suit. read more
