I recently joined In-Shape after spending many years at upscale gyms, and honestly, I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I like it. The facility is located in the former business fair center in Concord, so it's quite big. And unlike some enormous gyms where everything feels crammed into one giant open space, the layout here is actually quite thoughtful. The first floor has several group fitness studios, a VTL classroom, locker rooms, weight rooms, six racquetball courts, and an indoor basketball court that also accommodates pickleball. Upstairs, you'll find another extensive selection of strength-training equipment, plus ellipticals, treadmills, recumbent bikes, and stationary bikes. There's another large group fitness studio, a spin room, stretching area, and additional exercise spaces. Equipment is well spread out, so you can usually find your own space without feeling like you're working out shoulder-to-shoulder with everyone else. And importantly, the place is very clean and relatively quiet. That makes a big difference. There's also an outdoor five-lane swimming pool, apparently around 25 meters, which is a nice bonus. The selection of group fitness classes is comprehensive, with classes offered every day. Attendance seems quite good, too. The locker rooms are spacious and clean. Parking is ridiculously easy compared with many gyms. There's plenty of parking right in front, plus street parking if needed. The front-desk staff are reasonably friendly and responsive. Of course, it's not perfect. A few things clearly need attention. The digital clock in the basketball court has apparently been showing the wrong time for quite a while and still hasn't been fixed. The AC in the basketball court could be better, and the racquetball courts are even worse. These seem like relatively easy problems to identify and fix, so hopefully management will do a regular walk-through of the facility and take care of them. But overall, this is a very good gym for the money. For a community like Concord, I think it's an excellent fit. You have younger people serious about strength and fitness, as well as plenty of baby boomers who want to stay active and healthy. With the good variety of equipment, classes, racquetball, pickleball, basketball, swimming, and plenty of space, there's something here for just about everyone. After years of paying more for upscale gyms, I'm genuinely impressed by what In-Shape offers at this price point. A very solid value for Concord and the surrounding area. read more

I like the gym. The quality suits the cost. I appreciate there is enough machines to suit the amount of users, even during the busy times, considering people check different levels and sections of the gym when certain areas are busier than others. My main gripes are: -Facilities seem to be down often, taking a good while to be repaired. Whether this be the pool heater, sauna, or steam room. It seems like something is always out of order. -Re-racking weights. This is the worst gym I've belonged to for this specific category. I know it's difficult to get people to put weights away after use, but this gym specifically is completely out of order with this. I'm surprised whenever I approach a machine that does not have plates already on it. Overall a good gym for the price, but quality with facilities and gym ethics could get much better. read more

i loved this gym and it was literally just around the corner from me. I was a member since 2010, but after COVID my fee just kept going up and no matter how many times I tried to reach out to their corporate no one ever got back to me. Front desk personnel was no help either all they can say is that there is nothing they can do. With the cost of living going up and having to make cutbacks in order to stay on budget I just couldn't do it anymore. I finally decided to cancel my membership after being loyal for so long and join a different gym a little bit further away. I wish that this establishment have the same loyalty to their clients and would do whatever it took to keep long tern memberships alive. To me fitness is a lifestyle and I had planned on doing this until my body can no longer physically do it anymore. It's disheartening to see that this establishment which I thought was all about family in providing a good long term relationship would care a bit more, but I guess all they really want is to up the cost of their fees and don't care if you leave. If you don't mind paying a lot for your membership and don't care about loyalty and want to support an establishment that will never respond to you and show they care then join this gym. But just so you know there are a lot more options in the area for much less with better equipment and people that actually shows you they care. read more

The gym overall is poorly maintained--dirty equipment with years of visible sweat buildup and an ongoing shortage of machines. Many days, the entire rack of dumbbells is empty, and we have to search around just to find weights. They constantly move or remove the most useful equipment to other locations, making it even more frustrating to work out here. Go ANYWHERE else!! Terrible excuse of a gym. Machines are the same ones they had 20+ years ago. Cable machines always broken or are so "jumpy" you don't want to use them to avoid injury. There is sweat and spit on the mirrors, dust bunnies all over the place. The bathrooms... I've seen concert bathrooms cleaner. The manager might as well be a ghost cause he never responds and it's clear he doesn't care about his gym. For as much as we pay I'd expect more ... so where is our money going? Disappointed with locker room access and staff attitude I came to the gym expecting a normal workout, but the entire men's locker room was closed just to collect used towels. When I asked an employee how long it would take, the response was a rude "40 minutes"--no apology, no explanation. I only had an hour to work out, and waiting 40 minutes to even access my things is unacceptable. I understand maintenance happens, but this was poorly handled and completely inconsiderate of members' time. read more

Customers pay way too much to have to constantly ask staff to clean the showers and stock the hand wipe stations. The steam room could be used to harvest mold and the showers are an ongoing science experiment. Take a look at the bottom of the pool. I'd rather swim in the Delta. Broken equipment remains broken for years. Again, In spite of multiple reports from their "valued" customers, the equipment remains broken. I especially like the challenge of using the elliptical machine that randomly goes into "pause" mode in the middle of my stride. Maybe it will tear my knee so I can become the next multi-millionaire thanks to the pervasive negligence at InShape. Don't waste your money! read more

Update . I was contacted and offered 1 on 1 with a trainer apparently this is standard and what should happen for new members . Not sure why I slipped through the cracks but really appreciate being contacted and the meeting. They did a body scan and chatted about history and goals . The very helpful and knowledgeable trainer Miguel was great. He showed me and helped me with several different pieces of equipment and now feel much more comfortable . My need is to augment doctors guidelines and some on going PT . So some goals are PT based until I meet some early doctors goals. The trainers goals and direction will be great in the future . I look forward to maximizing the available resources now and into the future. I was offered to purchase different packages of trainers interaction. read more

I've been asking for months for the sauna & other equipment to be fixed, but it NEVER gets fixed no matter how much I ask or write them. They don't care about the facility or keeping members happy. **Misleading Membership Practices & Breach of Contract - Members, Know Your Rights** As a long-standing In-Shape member under the East County Network, I feel obligated to alert fellow members to a serious breach of contract and misleading business practices by In-Shape Family Fitness. According to both In-Shape's own website and my signed membership agreement, the East County Network includes Antioch, Brentwood, and Concord. However, I was only granted access to two clubs; Antioch and Brentwood, while being denied access to the Concord location, which is clearly listed as part of the network. Nowhere in my contract does it state that Concord is excluded. In fact, Article 2, Section 4 of the agreement clearly states: "If this membership is at a 'Network' level and includes access to fully operating ISFF clubs, Member agrees that Member's membership is based on the immediate availability of the Network of clubs selected, and not upon any particular or individual club..." This means access is tied to the entire East County Network, not specific clubs. Since Concord is fully operational and officially promoted as part of that network, In-Shape is violating its own contract and engaging in misleading advertising. I have reached out to In-Shape leadership and Member Services with no resolution. I have since filed formal complaints with the California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), Better Business Bureau (BBB), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). I will also be submitting documentation regarding membership payments and potential restitution for services denied. Fellow members: Check your contracts. If you are being denied access to a location listed under your network, you have the legal right to demand full access or file a formal complaint. This review serves as both a warning and a call to accountability. In-Shape needs to correct this violation and uphold the terms agreed upon with its paying members. read more

This gym leaves a lot to be desired. There is not enough ventilation so all of the exercise rooms STINK, even worse when there is an active class going on and everyone is sweating. A loud fan doesn't cut it, you need to INVEST in your property, In-Shape! I used to enjoy the aqua classes but the pool is so disgusting (and the heater keeps breaking) so I stopped going. I honestly have no idea what they are using their membership fee revenue for. The main reason I am cancelling my membership is the cleanliness. There should be paid employees in the locker room at all times cleaning and squeegee-ing the showers and amenities. HIRE THIS PERSON. I literally almost vomited in the shower because it was so disgusting. Hair EVERYWHERE, drains clogged with hair, absolutely feral-looking. I literally looked in every single shower and there was no way I would take a shower in there. It's one of the most disgusting locker rooms I have ever seen (and I used to work as a fitness instructor so I have seen all of them in this area). Shameful. So, combined with the stink of the general workout areas, classrooms, and the nonchalance with which this company addresses its bathroom and locker rooms situation, I am OUT. You're going to make people sick if you don't literally clean up your act. I can't believe you haven't been cited by the city yet. read more

I love InShape. It's close to home and the staff is friendly. The gym is very well equipped and they offer many good classes.

I'm back after having had my membership on hold for a while, and I cannot say that time has been kind to this gym. They had great classes years ago, but now they leave a lot to be desired. After taking barre and Pilates classes at studios, the ones offered at InShape are shameful. I was told over a year ago that they were bringing back 5 am/early morning classes, yet that has not happened. Lots of equipment seems to be in need of repair and the locker room is just gross (mold, dirty walls, etc.). What has happened to you, InShape?! I appreciate the small workout room upstairs and its close proximity to my house, so I'll stay, but definitely wish they'd do better. read more

I've been a member since this summer when I first moved to the area and I'd give it 3 stars out of 5. This gym has everything the average person would want. It's not sparkling clean all the time but they try really hard. I wish they had more Stairmaster machines. They have a ton of cardio equipment that doesn't get used that often! I feel like this place could get way more use out of their space. I wish they had a tv or two in the weights sections so I could catch a game in between sets while I lift sometimes. I use the sauna often but the steam room is kind of gross. It gets the job done. read more

I spoke with managers and maintenance about this issue several times only to find nothing has been done. I have been attending aqua fit classes for 18 months. In that time the poolside has been filthy, muddy, and rarely cleaned, trash remains by the loungers for days, the showers need a good bleach, and the changing area needs work. The pool pump works spasmodically over the winter so the water is either cold or classes are regularly canceled. Also we have had a situation where workmen have been allowed in to the women's locker rooms to fix the sauna and steam room while 30-40 aqua fit ladies were showering and dressing. The workmen just continued walking through and refused to leave stating they had a job to do and it was not their problem. The area was not shut down or any previous warning given that workmen would be in the women's shower and dressing areas. The manager (male) just stated that they had arrived unexpectedly and they had a job to do. NOT ACCEPTABLE. read more

The gym is used for 4 hours a day for pickleball and it isn't even posted online and is in the middle of the day apparently from 10-2. The basketball court often has a good amount of people playing basketball so not sure why they take 4 hours out of the day versus perhaps 2 and post it online. The pool has very limited family swim hours. It is an extremely expensive club to have such limits. The class schedules mostly only work for those not working 9-5 jobs and commuting. Would be nice to have an early morning class at 5 am or 6 am and a few more options after 6 though those have increased. read more

I genuinely don't understand the low reviews? Today was my first day at this club and it's a huge upgrade from Fitness 19, Planet Fitness and even 24Hour. The facilities are clean, adequate amount of equipment for all fitness goals, great amenities, and plenty of space. They even have a sauna, restrooms were clean, wipes and sanitizing spray was well located throughout the facilities. I have no bad comments to say about this place. So much space to find somewhere to work out, and I was really pleased with the facilities. Cons: The gym is very outdated and lacking. For the price you pay I may have to start looking elsewhere. A lot of the treadmills and stair masters are either broken or damaged. Cardio equipment is sticky and dirty a lot of the time. Staff is friendly and great but the gym is in drastic of a remodel. For those of you that remember this gym from the time it was Mavericks not much has changed. Pros: Friendly staff, some new leg machines upstairs and new upper body machines upstairs. read more

It took a couple days but the manager of the location followed up with me... and he still said NO! So I explained the policy was not in compliance with ADA Title III. At this point he conceded that he'd have to check with someone higher up. Shout out to Eric who called me back and clarified that the first person and the manager were WRONG. They have caregivers accompany children with special needs all the time and the fact that we didn't use the term "caregiver" tripped them up. All we have to do is get TrustLine certified -- which I told them from the start that we were willing to do that! So we're back to square one, never fully finished our tour and frankly it's been a headache just to fight to be heard and get to the point where membership might be viable for us. Since we haven't fully experienced this fitness center, I figure the fair thing is to upgrade them to three stars and we'll see if they earn the next two. read more

I Signed up the gym for the pool. Last October, the pool was not warm enough, which caused me sick for a week. I put the membership on hold until April, thinking it would be a good time to take my son there as the weather gets warmer. We attempted twice in April, both times we realized that the pool was not available after we got into the pool: first time due to a heater failure and the water was freezing, second time due to a life guard training. The life guard trainer didn't even allow us to use the two lanes that they are not using. There was no clear notice of the unavailability of the pool. Not going back. read more

It's been five days now without sanitizing wipes at the Concord location. Are members supposed to just keep using the sweaty equipment as is? The front desk has no idea when wipes will be back in stock, which is surprising given that providing them is really the bare minimum for a gym. If someone does end up getting sick because of this, should we assume management will be covering for the medical bills? Hopefully this gets addressed sooner rather than later. read more

Been a member for years. This place has a broken sauna almost everyday. When the members complain, the manager blames on members pouring water over the sensor. Never gets fixed and if it does it's running does...it's running for a couple hours and gets turned off. read more

Women's sauna is ALWAYS out of order for weeks at a time. If you plan on using the sauna I would suggest going to another gym.

Employees are nice. The swimming pool is nice but no one bothers to reserve their lanes and takes other people's lanes and lies or barges into a lane where people are swimming. Was harassed once. If I reserve on the app it's like I don't have rights to my lane. I spoke to upper management about this, not seeing any changes as of yet. read more

I absolutely love my gym. There are so many amazing things about it I don't even know where to start. This is pretty much my family's second home! The kid zone is here is absolutely incredible. My kids have made friends and look forward to going every time. We love the kid zone staff! They are so great with my kids and I feel very comfortable leaving them in their care. The amenities are top notch. They have so much to offer! I have such a great experience every time I go. The standout classes for me are Barre with Alex, Body Pump with Julie, Holly and Heidi! The equipment is top notch. Love the locker room as well to wind down in and feel refreshed after a workout. Alicia (one of the managers here) is amazing. She always makes us feel welcome. My son absolutely loves the kids events they do once a month! Don't miss that one parents. It's great for the kids and for you. I love giving back to the gym as well. Problem #1: I have been a member on and off for over 7 years and seen this place and its equipment fall apart. They don't invest in newer equipment as far back as I can remember. Problem #2: good luck getting out of any membership you sign into. I asked for and thought I was signing my son up for a month to month contract. 7 months later when we tried to end the membership, we were told to pay $250 cancellation fee even though their employee gave us the wrong info and put us into a year to year deal. We pleaded our case and was given the " call corporate/email them" line by their manager Pedro. Will never recommend this gym to anyone! save your $$$$$ and find a clean gym with competent and honest employees. read more

I was super impressed when I first joined the gym on 2022! But over the course things have changed. I hate going late at night and the employees trying to rush and close the sauna or steam room while still under hours of operation. The man's showers can used some fix . In some showers you barely get some water. But what made me cancel my membership is that their sauna has been not working for months now! I been paying every month and can't used the sauna. I've been a long-time member of this Concord gym location for about 6 years and I have stayed with this brand at various other locations for maybe 4 + years. I've always appreciated the low monthly fees and flexible cancellation. Which helps in occasions were money was tight or I was busy with work/travel. Classes are usually decent with an assortment of types such as cycle, strength, cardio, yoga. There's a kids club for babysitting while you work out. Gym size is very spacious with an upstairs for cardio machines, separate rooms for stretching or intimate training sessions. Downstairs for group classes and weights. When I first joined this gym I primarily used the outdoor pool for lap swimming. It took the pandemic for me to take a significantly lengthy break 1.5 years and gain some perspective that this gym is accommodating a different demographic that may not be for me. I am in my 30's and in good shape and was also told by instructors on several occasions to reduce my effort to not make others feel intimidated. This response in addition to lessening of group exercise class types like combat, grit, barre, challenging Pilates and no 530 am classes make it a good time to transition to a more modern and energetic club that fits my needs. It served it's purpose and I loved it for many years. If you have a large family or littles ones that need to be tended to or hope to have a more relaxed gym experience this might be for you. read more

An employee named Alicia is always being rude to me and my friends saying i can't use my membership which i have been paying for over a year because i accidentally changed the picture to someone else and i ask her if i can show her my school id for her to confirm but she's always rude kicking me out threatening to cancel my membership and saying she's gonna call the cops on me for being in the gym!
