Mostly a bridal kind of boutique but you can also find beautiful dresses for parties, events and for dancing alone at home, why not? I found the owner to be super friendly and welcoming and even thought my friend and I did not find anything to take home with us, we both had a nice 'browsing' experience there. Initially from the outside I thought this boutique was some sort of nice thrift shop (antique furniture, porcelain cups like from someone who just died and the family donated the heirlooms, mannequins that stare at you and have an antique allure...). Then when we entered, we realized that was the look they want to achieve, like one of those boutiques you can find in the movies from the 1950s where the customer can have everything tailored and customized on the spot. Then you come back to the 2000s in a flash when you arrive to the section dedicated to the SPANX leggins. That is awesome, great quality and nice styles. The windows show beautiful gowns that are suitable for weddings and elegant events. But the secret is that they also have clothes by Eva Varro in the back, Spanx jeans, and other more casual but dressy items. She also has a selection of shoes, so if you show up and need higher heels, she has you covered. I recently had a special occasion and needed a dressy but casual outfit. Mobina had a top I liked, but it was the wrong color. She located the right color top in southern California and had it shipped up so it would arrive in time. I arrived at her shop before the event started and changed into it in her shop. She was so helpful and so sweet. It felt like I had popped into a girlfriend's home to change. Mobina has recently taken over from the previous owner, Azita, and has the same hospitable approach. Don't overlook this shop. It's a little gem with incredible clothes for many different occasions. Azita is AMAZING!!! She and her staff are no-nonsense, super helpful, and have become friends. I will recommend In the Olde Manner to ANYONE wedding dress shopping, or shopping for any special occasion. When I was wedding dress shopping, I thought I was going to go crazy at a few places. The women were over the top complementary (not genuine), and it seemed like they were just trying to make a commission. When I came to In the Olde Manner, it was like a breath of fresh air. Azita was not shy about helping me choose styles to suit my body and personality. She let me know what worked, and more importantly, what did not work. (To a previous reviewer, if she said you are pear-shaped, it's not because she's mean; it's because you're pear-shaped). The dress I chose was a simple Nicole Miller gown, and was very reasonably priced. I was never pressured to buy a more expensive dress, or up-sold on any accessories. I came back a few months later, looking for a veil. Even though I thought I wanted a waist-length veil, Azita steered me in the right direction. She pointed how how silly that veil length would look with my dress. I was hesitant, and insisted on a waist-length veil, but Azita told me she would not sell me one. She forced me to try on a chapel-length veil (!!!) and to my surprise, it was perfect. I had always thought of a floor-length veil as over the top, but with my dress, it looked fabulous. She's been in business this long for a reason. I am so, so happy with the choices Azita helped me make. I stood topless in the dressing room while the salesperson affixed stick-on silicone to my boobs. I actually really liked these things that looked like raw chicken cutlets - they were much better than a strapless bra - though it was a little weird peeling them off afterwards. The salesperson pulled various dresses off the rack that she thought met my wishes of a 30s inspired wedding dress. However, there aren't that many dresses to choose from in the store to begin with, and she completely missed a few that I hoped to try on. She pulled a dress that was a column and body hugging all the way down, showed deep cleavage, and was plain. My mom and I told her I wanted more of an A-line, no cleavage, and embellishment and then she went on to pull five more dresses that were the same as the first. The saleswoman helped me slip in and out of each dress, except for the last dress I pulled off the $99 rack at the front of the store. When it was time to try on this one she disappeared to sit in front of the main counter of the store (there weren't any transactions to take care of), as though a $99 dress wasn't worth her time to help me. If you're looking for something different this is a good place to go to. Their selection of pretty corsets is amazing, and they have some nice(though pricey) bridal jewelry. The dresses are mostly in the $800 range, but many look cheaply made. If you're considering going the corset and skirt route, they're made much better. I had the most wonderful experience at In the Olde Manner. Azita, the owner selected dresses for me to try on and all the dresses I was given worked great with my body type. I was also encouraged to make my own selections and didn't feel rushed at all, which wasn't my experience at some of my other bridal appointments. Hmmm, all on the same day, weird coincidence.*** *** I guess the person who wrote the bad review was a little ebarrased and removed her post*** I was the person who offered to buy the store credit in the below review, but the only reason I did was because my wedding dress shopping experience was totally ruined because of the scene that was caused. I was totally robbed of the experience every bride should have while shopping for her wedding dress because a remorseful customer was loudly haggling with the store owner and staff about a policy that she didn't like. The owner was helping me into my dress and trying to fit accessories to it/me while all of this was going on and it was just awful. The policy is clearly stated on the wall in the store. This same policy exists in virtually every boutique in town. The owner is nice enough to let people bring things back for a store credit beyond the posted 7 day policy. She doesn't force people to buy things, rather she suggests things that compliment your purchase. Everybody has the right to exercise their own free will when buying or not buying these things. Sometimes you find something you like better later, but that is just how it goes. That is why the policy is posted in the first place; so we can make well informed decisions when making such purchases. I highly recommend this place and despite my experience being ruined by somebody elses inflated sense of self entitlement, my experience was a good one. I despise the wedding industry and was proud to avoid it as much as possible when planning mine. I had wanted to wear my grandmother's dress from the 1940's, but when I unpacked it, it was too yellow, so I had to buy a new dress. My mom came up to go "dress shopping" (despite knowing that I don't like shopping) and I sent her off with my fiance. Then I got to enjoy imagining how the shopkeepers were dealing with the bizarre-looking couple of my mom and fiance. In the afternoon, they called and said they had a favorite place. They had been to David's Bridal and some other place, but the dresses they liked were at In the Olde Manner. I met them there, tried on the three dresses they liked, and then the corset and skirt combo I eyed in the window and fell in love. The store owner fitted me for the corset and skirt and told me to come back in a few weeks. When I did, the store owner put me in the altered skirt and told me that it needed further alterations. She sent me to a nearby seamstress who told me the length was just fine and didn't make any changes. Everything was great, but they cut the ribbon too short in the front of the corset. So the store owner offered to redo the front ribbon. Then the color didn't match, so she redid all the ribbon. When I went to the store to get dressed on the day of my wedding, the corset was strung differently, and didn't look quite as good as in my fittings, but at the time I couldn't figure out what was different. The dresses are expensive, but I loved mine. It wasn't perfect (it has some strings hanging from it and one of the corset loops was torn a bit) and I expected a higher level of precision for the price, but I would have to say that if it is in your budget, you should consider dress shopping here, especially if you like corsets. This is a lovely bridal boutique with a small but unique collection of gowns, corsets, shoes, undergarments and accessories, all with a vintage feel. I came here searching for a brooch for my dress, which I have already purchased elsewhere. Didn't find the brooch, but couldn't help but notice the lovely dresses -- all at relatively reasonable prices (for wedding dresses, anything below $1200 is considered "budget." Oy). The dresses are perfect for a beach or more casual wedding -- most are made of lighter silks and chiffons and are designed simply. They're also great for a second wedding (can you say the color "champagne" anyone?). In fact the only issue was all the dresses were so damn nice and reasonably priced that I started second guessing myself. I love, love, love Azita and her staff at In the Olde Manner. I recently purchased both of my wedding dresses here (one for the ceremony and one for the reception) and have gone back to be styled as well. They are very clear when you come in that they're not a "fluffy, cupcake wedding dress" shop, but if you're into sleek, vintage inspired, high quality pieces this is a great little boutique. I feel like a million bucks every time I leave and I love that I'm supporting a small, local shop instead of some big bridal chain store. I first went in to look at the dress selection in May, right after I got engaged. After quickly viewing the somewhat limited selection, I made an appointment to come in and meet with Azita for an official bridal experience. When I came back in June, I had both sales attendants (the owner of the shop and her assistant) all to myself for the next hour. I didn't feel they were pushy at all but I credit them with knowing what would look good and what wouldn't. They quickly assessed my style and comfort level and had me try on dresses that flattered my figure beautifully. I've since gone back to try on the dresses they've ordered for me and I couldn't be happier. I love everything about this place! read more

OK, I need to rethink my review. I visited here with a friend who's looking for a more retro vibe for a dress. The women at the store are really helpful at pulling dresses. They try to do the vintage feel with a modern twist. Since they do the vintage thing, most of the dresses they sell have a sheath silhouette. So if you're looking for a ballgown - this isn't the place to go. However, if you're looking for something that's vintage inspired. This is a good place for you. "In The Olde Manner" has such beautiful clothing for so many special occasions...including wedding .Let me preface this by saying, I am a 60+ yr old woman (only 25 at heart!) and this is my FIRST marriage---so my wedding is already very special to me of course, but to all those who know and love me. On Sunday 1/20, Scott and I attended a Bridal Event at Crate and Barrel (where we are registered) and after .... I had mentioned that I wanted to go look at dresses at a little boutique in Los Gatos called "In the Olde Manner" but I was not prepared for dress shopping, (wrong under garments, etc.) ...but thought l would just "look" I walked in and was greeted by the smiling store owner "Azita". She was immediately warm and made me feel so welcome, I told her I was getting married and that it was going to be a "beach" wedding....and that I had an image in my mind of what I wanted, but have yet to find it...she immediately said, "I have just the dress!" and brought out the dress that was the exact dress I had envisioned...I was amazed and so excited and asked if there was one in my size I could try on...and YES, indeed there was! It is a sleeveless style, and I expressed that I wanted my arms covered, she brought me several items, to try (lace, chiffon shawls etc.) and then one bolero-type jacket that was sheer and "perfect" .... Once she dressed me ...she turned me to the full-length mirror...and I immediately started to cry...and knew this was "The ONE!" I told her "let's do this" and she took some measurements (for minimal alterations). At this point I mentioned that I wish I had my family/friends with me to share in this very happy moment, and Azita said, they are all with you..."in your heart" As I was at the register...I was thinking and asked Azita...do you have 'names' for your dresses? And she said, yes we do...and I said "what is the name of my dress?" ...she smiled and said "ANNIE" .... my jaw dropped, and my heart pounded...I could not believe this---I literally became speechless and told her "No----Oh my God...are you serious??" and she seemed confused and said "Yes, my darling.... why?" I told her that was my Mom's name who had passed away in 1996 and how I miss her so much every day and wished she were here with me for this exciting time in my life....We both started to cry and she came and hugged me and said "she IS HERE with you my dear" that was the moment that I knew....this was meant to be "my dress" and my Mom "ANNIE" led me there* and was indeed a part of this special time in my life! I found this place looking for nicole miller bridal gown. I have been looking for thin/sheath gowns and it's so hard to find them! they only designer I had found so far was Claire Pettibone who has pretty expensive dresses. Anyways I came here to check out their Nicole Miller dresses and realized they have a lot of realiy nice thin bridal gown from other designers like Sue Wong as well. I ended up trying a whole bunch of dresses. They also have other type of bridal dresses if you are not looking for thin ones :)! Their dresses are also really good price and they fit amazing, unlike all the other bridal shops I have been at. They also have really cute vintage bridal accessories like cage veil or flowers for the hair and jewlery. The staff is also very nice and helpful and honest! Pros: - Very nice wedding and ocasional dress selection - unique items - friendly staff that give you good ideas for clothing and accessories - great prices for specially wedding dresses! I recently got engaged and my sister, her girlfriend and my grandmother and I got some lunch a walked by to take a peek at some of the vintage inspired wedding dresses in the back. Let me start by saying that the store smelled like cat pee. I was still willing to give it a chance but, that in itself was not inviting. We then were peeking at the dresses and after a while the sales woman showed me a dress that she said would be good with my bust. I'm a 36DDD and wear a size 8 pant. Curvy but certainly not large. The dress she showed me first was spaghetti strap, umpire waist, flowy with tiered pieces of fabric. NOT at all something I would put myself in. I politely said that that wasn't the style I was looking for and she told me it would be slimming. I kept looking at the dresses and noticed the sizes were all 2 and 3. My sisters girlfriend found a dress that was actually kind of lovely and we asked if she had any more sizes in the back or if they could be ordered and she grabbed the dress and said that she doesn't order dresses in sizes that she thinks wont look good on brides that size... I was obviously immediately offended and extremely crushed. She then tried to show me another umpire waisted dress saying that it would be better suited for me and I looked at my girls and said "Well we're leaving now and we absolutely wont be coming back." It was bad. It was hurtful. It was unprofessional. And the dresses certainly weren't THAT cute. Glad to hear other people found success here but anyone who isn't a size 2 or 3 (never heard of a 3 buuuut ok) I wouldn't recommend, unless you want unsolicited comments about your body. Azita and her staff were so helpful in helping me pick out dresses to try on and they offered me their honest feedback on which dress looked best and which one they felt matched my personality best. I have a formal wedding to attend next month -- the kind where a cocktail or tea-length dress just won't do (my husband will be in tails). I had no luck at department stores (Macy's, Nordstroms) and very little luck in Trudy's in Campbell (everything was a bit too bedazzled for my taste). I went to "In the Olde Manner" after reading some positive reviews on Insider Pages. They indicated the store had a limited but tasteful selection with a vintage edge to it, and that was just what I was after. Azita was extremely accommodating, and listened attentively to what I had in mind. She gave me an overview of what in the store might fit my needs, and gave me plenty of time to browse without breathing down my neck. She gladly pointed me to her sale rack, which had some amazing deals (one gorgeous gown had been reduced from $800 down to $150!). She helped me into and out of each dress, gave me great feedback and features to consider, and truly didn't pressure my decision. She even let my well-behaved dog come into the store so my husband could see the finalists. In the end, I bought a 40s inspired Dina Bar-EL gown and am very pleased with it. I went to this store to find my wedding dress. Overall, it was enjoyable, but there selection was a little small and just not the style I was looking for. I had two women helping me. I browsed the dresses they had and picked a few to try on. The woman helping me with the dresses laid out the strapless bra so I could put it on myself and asked before she touched me at all. I was provided with a lot of privacy. After I would put the dress on, they would dress me up with accessories, which I was fine with. Their lighting was mostly natural and a little poor for taking pictures. I would recommend this place if you like old fashioned, simple but elegant dresses. read more

She has one look at you and can find the perfect dress for your body and your occasion. On a whim, my g/f and I wandered in to look at dresses for my wedding. I had never been there before and didn't know anything about the store. I was thinking I'd get married in a nice dress (2nd marriage without all the bells and whistles). I picked out a couple of things. Then Azita came along. After asking about what it was I was looking for and me telling her that I thought I might want something casual, she grabbed a few dresses from around the store and then, whoosh, I was in the dressing room. The dresses I picked out looked awful. The dresses Azita picked out were fabulous. I looked awesome AND more like the bride I was. I found the perfect dress right there (plus two more!) I was having the hardest time finding wedding dresses. From small boutiques and consignment stores to David's Bridal in places such as Capitola, Monterey, San Jose, Pleasanton...I just couldn't find anything that I would've even said "meh" to. I didn't want a dress that looked like a satin curtain. I wanted a much more vintage/bohemian type feel....lacy, classy and NOT sterile white. When I walked in...my jaw dropped. Although the selection was small, I knew I would find my dress here. Their dresses were elegant and not tacky or cheap looking. I was overcome with joy! I wasn't the kind of kid that fantasized about my wedding and I had no clue what I would do, but I couldn't envision myself in the options most seen in bridal mags. I've loved this store for ~16 years, but never bought anything because I just didn't have the need. Now that I'm getting married, I put them on my list of stores I had to go to. This was the 5th place I went to looking for my wedding gown; I liked but didn't love gowns I found in other stores. ITOM has a very small selection of gowns, but I found the perfect one for me, a Nicole Miller, very simple sheath. Upon hearing my woes of dress shopping in other places, the woman helping me thought I was overwhelmed, told me we had time, and that I should sleep on my decision and not think about the gown for a week or two. I did just that, and was super excited when I finally went in to order my gown. It came in last week, a full month earlier than expected (only took a month to come in!), and I also purchased a wrap and purse that match my gown perfectly, also bought my necklace to go with the gown, and my Spanx there (very reasonably priced). I'll go back for my earrings and hairpiece... the only reason I haven't done that yet is I want to figure out what my hair will look like first. I highly recommend for the bride who is looking for something unique and as reasonably priced as wedding gowns probably get. I was initially excited to go to In the Olde Manner. I really liked their dress selection and the reviews seemed positive. I went to In the Olde Manner as my first stop on my wedding dress hunt and it was the worst possible experience. The woman that helped me was pushy and only interested in what she thought I should do. The customer service supplied by Azita (the woman helping me) was terrible. Although we had an appointment, we waited forever to be helped and it was obvious she was running behind. We went through to select dresses and she rushed me. If it weren't for my mom and my MOH pulling dresses and helping me put them on, I probably would still be standing there in my underwear. In the Olde Manner made me feel terrible about myself and the possibility of finding a dress. I left in tears...I felt like I was shoved out the door. I found a little blush Sue Wong dress here that I fell in love with, without a reason to wear it. I lusted after this dress for several weeks. The owner offered to give me a discount, even if I purchased it on another visit. When my wedding dress came in under budget(amazing, I know), we knew that I had to buy this for the after-party. My mother came with me and loved it on me too. My good friend also got her wedding dress here, and it is perfectly her. She isn't the kind of girl I could picture in a wedding dress, and she found the perfect dress here. Azita and Jannel are the best! Azita has a wonderful talent for this. I wanted a unique wedding dress that would be a vintage Old Hollywood sort of look. This was the perfect place. I told Azita what I was looking for and she immediately knew what I would like, and what would flatter my body type. Not only that she also has a beautiful eye for accessories also. I really enjoyed the experience and my lovely dress. I received SO many compliments, I can't wait to go back and try on her non-wedding items. There are so many beautiful things in the store I just wanted to buy everything. Jannel made the experience fun and was remarkably helpful! These wedding dress are perfect. They feel very vintage and unique and won't kill your budget. Best thing is they all barely need tailoring. Staff is so nice. But, you can't take pictures of yourself trying them on. read more

Do you like standing naked and getting your body insulted? Do you want to get groped by an old woman? Do you want to deal with pushy sales people who try to sell you the same veil 5 times when you've clearly said you're not interested? All of this happened to me at In the Olde Manner I went there to try on wedding dresses. This old saleswoman stood there staring at me the entire time making negative comments about my body, even when I clearly said I didn't need help. For example, she called me pair-shaped, said I had ugly underwear and then a minute later tried to sell me Spanx! I've never been called pear-shaped in my life. There are no dressing rooms in here, just a corner with an open side (no curtain or anything), so anyone can see you. Later, when that didn't work, she barged into the dressing area. Without my permission, she quickly AND aggressively grabbed my breasts and tried to sell me a push up bra (of which she had several stacked for sale INSIDE the dressing area). I would have stopped her from doing this if I had the chance. It really hurt. I then heard (and saw her, since there's no privacy in the place) use similar sale's tactics on the lady trying on a dress in the other corner of the room. I got myself out of there as quickly as possible. My body is just fine. This is no way to treat someone just to make a sale. Shame on In The Olde Manner. There are no special dresses here. You can get anything stocked here at other places. I saw dresses by Nicole Miller and one by Inga Nataya (that was white and in the bridal section, but was definitely not meant to be a bridal dress, none of Nataya's wedding items were here). All the dresses sold here are available on the manufacturers website's. There's a better selection online, better prices and a better return policy. Shop anywhere else but here. Even Ann Taylor and Jcrew have better stuff. There's also an old-lady perfume smell covering everything in the store. I guess it's part of the theme. Definitely pass on this place. After searching high and low for a vintage style wedding dress, finally found one here. Not your typical styles, which are beautiful, but not for me. The staff was friendly and helpful BUT only when I needed them. Thanks for helping me out for my special day. read more
