I live in San Diego, where we can get a lot of excellent Indian food, but I'm originally from Green Bay. When I'm in town visiting family I love to come here to get my Indian food fix! The food is really good, especially for Green Bay where it can be difficult to come by different cuisines like this. It's pretty comparable to the options we have in San Diego and other places I've ordered from while on vacations and road trips. My youngest brother is always down to meet me here, but not all my family members are as adventurous with food. This trip, that younger brother had a baby at home, so I wanted to bring him and my SIL a bit of an Indian buffet while he was home with his 1 month old. Their favorite items here are the Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala, which I knew were super similar dishes, but that's their favorite and I wanted to make sure they had both. My parents were joining and I knew they also liked these dishes... they can be a bit adventurous but I don't think they're SUPER adventurous, so I wanted to pick a few items I knew they'd like. In order to add a bit of variety, I planned on ordering the two favorites (butter chicken and chicken tikka masala), the Navartan Khorma (a veggie dish), the Baingan Bhartha (which is now the Baingan Marsala on their menu - a ground eggplant dish), and the Shahi Paneer (gotta get something with that homemade cheese and this had good reviews on Yelp), along with a garlic naan and coconut naan... possibly also a chicken biryani because I figured my mother would love it - we have some EXCELLENT biryani places in San Diego. Well... the server I ordered from didn't like my order because a lot of these items have the same sauce. I had to push to get my brother and SIL's favorites which very much are the same (butter chicken and chicken tikka) but he talked me out of the Baingan Masala... I personally think ground eggplant significantly changes the flavor, but apparently not enough for this server. I had to point out that I didn't want all chicken dishes. He had me order a chicken saag instead and explained to me that it was dark meat chicken instead of white. I've often ordered saag paneer at other Indian restaurants, but I wasn't sure if it would be my family's jam and sure enough they barely touched the saag chicken. It was alright, but probably better with paneer than chicken or maybe their saag just isn't as good as other places I've been. He also had me order the Kadai Paneer instead of the Shahi Paneer, which was probably a good suggestion. The sauce was a bit tangier than a masala sauce and paired well with the peppers and onions in it. This dish was almost gone by the end of our meal, everyone liked it! When I told him I might also add the chicken biryani he asked if I knew what it was and showed me a picture. I know what biryani is... it's amazing and I've had versions from other cultures that are equally excellent (my coworker once made us a version from Kurdistan that was to die for). He didn't understand why I would want that since we get rice with our curry dishes. The rice you get with curry dishes is NOT the same as biryani, but who knows, maybe their biryani is super bland and basic. I wouldn't put curry over a biryani because it's usually so good on its own. I figured my mother would love it, but we didn't find out. I have no idea if their biryani is good, but someday maybe the servers here will allow me to order it. I get that I'm a white girl and white folks don't always know what they're ordering at Indian restaurants, but they should know the stereotype that white folks love masala sauces. I appreciated the paneer swap suggestion but was kinda bummed that I didn't get the eggplant dish or biryani. I think he felt bad for being difficult about my order, so he gave us free mango ice cream for the 5 people that this buffet order was for. It was good, I just disagree with the server that my original order wasn't enough of a variety. The paneer swap was probably a good suggestion though. I've only been to one other Indian restaurant that didn't want to let us order what we wanted. The server at that place was super socially awkward and we assumed that was why, so we stopped going to that restaurant. The server at this restaurant didn't seem socially awkward... just opinionated. I hope he'll just embrace the white people stereotype... we really do love that masala sauce! read more

Our favorite restaurant in Green Bay AND the best Indian restaurant I've ever eaten at, having eaten at MANY all over the US. Not only is the food very good but the Manager Singh is a treasure, he runs a tight ship and always has a smile on his face. The chicken korma is excellent and definitely give the chicken65 a try. What a fantastic place to eat! Large variety of items to choose from on the menu. Many vegetarian offerings, and different spice levels. I have tried nearly everything on the menu, and I have not yet found something I would order again. Appetizers are great, especially Chicken 65 and Gobi Manchurian! We have tried all of the different naan flavors, and they are all wonderful! The are usually 6 of us and we always find something for everyone. The wait staff is awesome! This place has authentic Indian food. I had the buffet and every dish was on point. The food was hot, plentiful and most of all delicious. The service was spectacular. I've been here a bunch of times. When they first opened the restaurant was seriously understaffed and the service definitely was not the best. With each subsequent visit the service has been noticeably better but it still has room for improvement. On each visit the dishes I ordered were rather ordinary -- but still quite authentic. And, to my taste, all were well cooked and properly seasoned. They reminded me of the food I ate when traveling in India. The decor could use some work -- in particular the harsh, cool white LED lighting that renders the atmosphere and food less appetizing to the eye. Just keep in mind that India Bhavan is not "high cuisine" in service, food or decor (nor are they trying to be) and you will find that it provides an adequate fix when you get a craving for Indian food. read more

Every time we are driving through Green Bay we stop here! The food is always delicious and the staff has always been extremely kind and helpful! Last night I got take out. They had actually thrown in little scoops of ice cream for us! I hadn't known they did that, but when the server heard I was driving home, 1 1/2hrs away, he ran in back and grabbed another dessert, explaining that the ice cream probably wouldn't make it that far. I was intrigued when I read a review saying this restaurant was on par with the Yelper's favorite Indian restaurants in the Chicago area. We decided to give it a whirl one day and were very pleased! The employees were very pleasant and accommodating. They were quite busy when we stopped but they got us seated quickly, including a high chair for our 8 month old. We ordered chicken saag and chicken curry and both were on point. We also got the cheese naan and the garlic naan, my husband liked the garlic better and I liked the cheese naan better. I've been to Indian restaurants and have ordered cheese naan that you wouldn't have been able to tell was anything near cheese naan, so this was a nice difference from what I've gotten in the past. This place is a hidden Gem! Service was spectacular and kind. We had the goat pepper masala which my husband loved! It was spicy and delicious! TRY THIS PLACE. We were not familiar with Indian cuisine at all and the waiter recommended the chicken masala with two types of naan (flatbread). It was phenomenal. Yes: it takes longer to make the food. They do it all from scratch. So don't come if you're in a hurry. But if you want great, high-quality flavors and huge portions (I.e. Leftovers), come here and enjoy. If it's your first time, start simple. Naan bread with chicken masala. Dip the bread in the sauce and rice interchangeably or make little mini tacos with it. read more

The food was good, it was a little slow, but was told because it was authentic and from scratch. We have been to many Indian places around world and usually you are given small little appetizers with poppadoms, so we were disappointed that they didn't even offer or wasn't on menu. This is my favorite Indian place in the Green Bay/Appleton area. The food is amazing. I do miss their buffet which disappeared during Covid - please bring it back! I've always been too intimidated to order off of an Indian menu but they have a big menu with good explanations for everything including a key for vegetarian, vegan, spicy, etc. The waiters are great and really friendly. We come here once every couple of months and they remember us and what we usually eat and will recommend new dishes and spice level for us based on our past meals if we're looking for something different. I went here because of the reviews but was disappointed on several things. Upon entering, my husband and I were not greeted as u usually are upon walking in. Instead we felt as if we were disturbing this individual. Got pass that! The service was good, but need to go past the server, who looked like he worked in the kitchen with a heavily stained t shirt, upon serving us the food. I also kept finding fibers/hair in my food. Coaxed into going here by my wife. I'm not a big fan of this type of food, but my wife insisted it was the best Indian food that she's ever had. The interior looked more like the previous tenant, Hooters, than an Indian cuisine establishment. Knotty pine instead of silk sheets. Middle Eastern music videos on the televisions that looked more like dirty dancing than belly dancing. Food was actually pretty good and arrived hot in metal bowls. We had the butter chicken and tiki Marsala chicken, spicy in intensity, and it was just right. They offer a limited selection of middle eastern beer, local wines, and Pepsi products.
