Their pick 5/6 is a great deal allowing one to sample many different flavors cafeteria style and seat yourself. They have regular items like tandoori chicken and spring roll and sometimes gems like goat curry. They have items for vegetarians as well. All plates come with fresh naan for dipping into the various curries (I know that isn't what it is referred to in India but for the lack of a better term). Very friendly staff. I work in what could generously be described as a food desert, or less dramatically a quality restaurant desert. India Bistro would be the oasis of that desert. I walked in not knowing what to expect and could not have been more happily surprised. You are immediately greeted by an exuberant staff, and that positivity stayed for the whole meal, which makes the entire experience even better. Everything is served as a cafeteria style buffet, compartmentalized trays and all! This actually works out really well in separating the multiple curries and stews. I can say that I honestly do not make multiple trips in a situation like this, however after my first trip of tandoori chicken, goat curry, paneer, spicy kebab, and rice, I somehow found room for tikka masala, saag, and their perfectly made naan. A restaurant like India Bistro is one of those little joys in life that make you think everything is going to be ok, or at least your lunch will be. read more

We were surprised to find this Indian restaurant in Plainfield and even more surprised to find it's updated decor and menu items, especially when compared to the frankly formulaic approach found in most Indy Indian restaurants. We had a chaat item for an appetizer and I had a creamy goat curry with mushrooms and my wife had a vegetarian cauliflower dish. The heat was as requested and the food tasted great. I was greeted upon entering the restaurant which is immaculate and the decor is very trendy and modern. The aroma of spices hit you as soon you hit the door and they tingle all of your senses. I was clueless and had no idea of where to start, I explored the menu and the very nice workers provided recommendations. I ordered the vegetable samosas and the vegetable korma with garlic naan. Once I got home I devoured everything and it was absolutely AMAZING!!!! I loved EVERYTHING! The right amount of heat in the vegetable korma, the garlic naan was soft and flavorful, and the samosas were perfectly fried and the filling was perfectly spiced. Went here for the first time today. I don't claim to be an expert on Indian food. I've had it a couple of times in the past. But, I really enjoyed this meal. We went for the lunch at about 1pm. They had a great selection included with their "Hurry Curry" buffet table. There were 4 meat options and enough ovegetarian options for my wife to go meat-free. All of the selections were flavorful. They also had rice, spring rolls, two dessert options, and brought fresh, hot naan bread to the table. In addition to the great food, I was very pleased with the friendly, hospitable service. The two people working were very helpful and accommodating for new customers and treated all patrons well. I'm sure there is "better" Indian food available at higher end restaurants. Multiple things wrong on order. Ordered potato vindaloo and got "vindaloo sauce"?! Then ordered aloo paratha and got aloo palah. Food that was put together like it was cooked in a hurry. Edit: I attempted to drive to the location to correct my order but there was a sign up saying they were closed and on a family vacation so I posted this review. I received a private message from the owner stating that I should take my issue up with Door Dash and that they didn't have potato vindaloo on my order (so they said I ordered only vindaloo sauce) and that they didn't have aloo paratha on the menu. I replied with screen shots of my Door Dash order and the menu they have listed and told him to shove it for being a lair. Terrible customer service. read more

This place was pretty much what we expected, except for the added bonus of goat curry!! So often these little buffets have chicken, chicken, and more chicken! But to have some very tasty, tender goat was a real surprise. The buttered naan was piping hot and delicious. Portions were very ample. We didn't try the desserts as we were full already, but they looked great. A couple negatives: The music was some monotonous techno-pop, which is maybe where they get the "Indian food with an attitude." slogan, but I'd much rather hear some tabla/sitar or even Bollywood music than this. My husband had the tandoori chicken and it looked really good. He is not an Indian food lover like I am. However he really enjoyed it. I have a ginger chai tea and it was an experience. It was not very sweet and it was a little spicy, I did like it but I couldn't drink very much of it. The food was very clean and that is what I appreciated the most. They also have items hard to find in other restaurants, like aloo tikki chats...etc, wish they had noodles with their manchurian. Passing through the area so can't compare it to anything comparable. My wife and I had the buffet lunch. It was good. The naan was hot and tasty. The entrees were mostly good, although what was said to be spicy wasn't notably spicy. The chicken tikka masala (which is generally what I would order at such a place) was a little light on the curry (needed more) and my wife thought it tasted a little more like tomato soup than curry. I don't know if I would go that far, but it really lacked the curry flavor that I was anticipating. Nothing wrong with this restaurant and the service was good, the food tasty, but could use some more spice and curry flavor to get it beyond the nearly bland level of flavor. This is central Indiana, and I realize that the Midwestern palate leans toward bland over spicy. That was my experience growing up in the Hoosier state (obviously, that does not represent everyone and is a generalization with which you may not agree). If you want Indian food and you don't have any other options in the area, you'll probably find it acceptable, and perhaps if you order off the menu and let them know your tastes, you'll find something memorably good here. read more
