The " Chicken Tikka Masala" with nuts.
    Philip C.

Update 4/28/24 So I purchased another Chicken Tikka Masala and I brought it home. I compared it to the first dish they gave me. The color was similar, probably because they used more yogurt and yellow curry and less tomatoes (British traditional) vs the Jndian traditional (significant red, tomatoes and acid). However I can definitely verify the first order had nuts in it, as I made my friend who is also Indian confirm. I am unsure of what the first dish they gave me was, but it wasn't what I ordered. The second version was better but still not what I am used to from India Gate. So another possibility is I just don't like their Chicken Tikka Masala anymore. It's not that red we're all used to. Y'all be the judge and comment. Does that look like traditional Chicken Tikka Masala? In addition, I don't care how many times people get sick of me saying this, but the restaurant could have handled this complaint better. Much better. It's very sad how people and patrons get treated, by the restaurants they are loyal to in times of dispute. To be clear I didn't want anything free, I just wanted what I ordered. Or even an apology. Not at this place. Try Spice Garden, Byrani and Co, and AusIndia for alternatives. This is in regards to the Research Blvd location. I am re-reviewing this restaurant. Sadly. I. Normally have a good experience here. However recently, I ordered chicken Tikka Masala, and when I got home it was Chicken Korma. And since I am highly allergic to nuts I could not eat it so I put it in my refrigerator. It was passed closing time so I did not call them or bother them. I called them the minute I got home from work, and the lady sounded very accusatory. And in addition wanted me to go all the way home to bring the old chicken korma back to exchange for chicken tikka masala. I even asked to speak to the manager or owner whenever convenient. She stated no. I just called the location requesting for my actual chicken tikka masala you know, something I can eat. I attempted to call you India Gate to just diplomatically. But since I have the actually food container I'm sure that says "CTM" which is obviously Korma that could medically hurt me, I may pursue legal counsel instead. Also the Smart- Ass ladies told me they "never wrote CTM" on their food. Accusing the food to not be theirs. So after I received the order I paid for again, I showed them that they yet again wrote the same "CTM" on their container. They said "sure." Lol I am writing this on here, for everyone in the community to know, that you should always try to do the right thing, and give privately owned business the chance to correct their mistakes even if fatal. But if they will not even let you speak to a manager or owner, sometimes you have to go the legal route. The level of dismissiveness by both employees was so bad I am actually taking the time to write this, for all of you to know. Oh sinister: I went by, the ladies wanted me to go all the way home and bring it back. So I asked my sister to bring it back. I went ahead and ordered the same chicken Tikka Masala and got a completely different item. So conveniently enough they also lost my receipts. And food order from the night before. It's all a little too convenient. Do not go here. You have many other options that will respect your claims (and I've gone here for years). You have better options that take American AA dining advantage. And you have better options that make rice that is not stale. The food here was fairly descent but the way they handles this, for a loyal customer , was so upsetting that we're just going to go elsewhere and pursuit legal action correctly. For all you foodies: don't tip unless you get good service. Don't keep going somewhere unless the food is amazing and they will work with you from time to time. Your money is far too valuable. Ambiance: at least it looks clean.

This is a review for food pickup for one dish so I feel a little guilty writing it but I guess not writing it does not help anyone either. Picked up Chicken majestic on Friday evening to go with beer growler I got from Slackers and the dish was aptly named. The chicken was really majestic and the portion size was larger than expected too. I asked for medium spicy which was good but next time I would try spicier option.

It used to be a 5, but now it's a 3 Food: It was good but was not as good as it used to be. I guess they change the chef or something. If you have never had Indian food, I think this is a good place to start. They have weekend and weekday buffets so you can try a variety of food (weekend has less options). They also serve naan to your table as week. They change the food every time, so I recommend checking out their Facebook for a menu of the day. Service: They go the job done quick and they are very nice. Location: One point I would like to note is that their floor is very slippery so watch out! Price: It's gotten quite expensive. $15 for weekday buffet lunch. 17$ for weekend. I have no complain if the quality of food remained the same, but it had not. So I'm a bit disappointed

This is part of the buffet! This plate has Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Chicken 65, Chilli Chicken and Plain Naan

I don't know what the reviews are going on about in this yelp.. i went here on a whim despite the negative reviews and I have to say it's the best buffet in Austin. I've gone to pretty much every buffet in Austin. Heck the buffet here is better than some made to order Indian restaurant. This place made me distrust yelp actually because I couldn't believe how bad the reviews were. I don't know if they switched owners or what happened. Also the service is amazing and its kept very clean. Price for buffet is very reasonable probably about the same as a golden corral but instead of frozen food you're getting custom amazingly seasoned Indian food. They rotate the menu so theres always something new to find. I will say I've never had the made to order a la cart menu only buffet so my review is based on that.

India Gate did an incredible job catering our wedding! It was the first they had ever done and they absolutely crushed it with food that was the talk of the night! Seriously, people were saying it was some of the best food they had ever had at a wedding! They came incredible prepared with their servers and more than enough food to feed everyone at the event. They were kind enough to pack up the food at the end of the night so we could bring it back home with us. We had a large menu of items including samosa, paneer tikka and pakoras at cocktail hour, and then paneer, malai kofta, aloo gobi, mixed veg, pulao, naan, gulab jamun at the reception. Everyone loved the food!! I would absolutely recommend them just to drop by the restaurant or to cater your next event - they will definitely be the talk of the town!

Go here for a weekend lunch buffet. We went to India gate on a Saturday for a lunch buffet. The place wasn't crowded at all around noon. There were plenty of dishes in the buffet. Even more if you are a non vegetarian. The samosa chaat was the highlight of the buffet for me. They serve naan at the table. The naans are good and the curries are tasty. The place is cleaner than an average Indian restaurant. We paid around $15 per person for the buffet. They also have chai included in the buffet. Taking a star off as when I visited, a few customers complained that the chicken biryani. Even I noticed the weird smell of the bad biryani. They replaced it immediately. But they can do a better quality checks.

Overall, the dishes were tasty, with classic Hyderabad flavors, and were endorsed by my husband, who lived in Hyderabad for more than 20 years. The service, however, had a story. The Tandoori Chicken and Masala Dosa were served first, but the Tandoori Chicken was undercooked, and the Dosa was stuffed with Masala, even though my husband had said he wanted the Masala put aside. After 20 minutes, the waitress came to say the Puri & Chole could not be ready. She asked if we wanted to order something else instead. I guess she forgot to order the dish to the kitchen. My husband said, then, how about giving us a Puri. The girl said it was $3 each. We were shocked when the Puri was served. It was small, not worth $3 at all. While we were disappointed, the manager showed. He fixed all problems, replacing a well-cooked Tandoori chicken leg and serving the Puri & Chole. Finally, the manager comped the chicken and the Puri & Chole for us.

There was one customer waiting, and not another person. I waited about ten minutes. My son loves chicken Tikka masala, so we ordered him some. It is spicy. Beyond the spice the chicken was tough, so even if the spice was toned down the chicken wasn't great. Great presentation and demonstrated the mastery of balancing multiple layers of flavors. Knowing the chef came from Semma in NYC (number 1 restaurant in 2025), I was very impressed and happy with the dishes he recommended. Very pushy, seems they are still 'soft launching' despite reviews going back to at least November 2025 -Only beer and wine If you can set aside abysmal service then I would say give this place a try, as the food was at least very, very good. My three friends and I came here for our 'monthly' dinner out. We made reservations but it didn't appear they were necessary. There is plenty of parking which is a major plus. The inside is beautiful and clean and the tables are BIG which is so nice for family style situations. The first waitress that assisted us was friendly and helpful. We inquired about cocktails and she stated they only served wine and beer. When we asked about the wine list, there wasn't one, and she wasn't able to tell us whites from red and had to go get her notes. While waiting for drinks, a second waitress arrived to take our food order. She seemed very insistent on recommending specific appetizers: mosaru vade, cauliflower varuthathu, and the goat sukka. Everyone in the group seemed fine with those options, so that's what we ordered. Our drinks arrived with a third person who identified herself as the bar manager. She stated cocktails would be 'coming soon' despite reviews from February saying the same thing, and asked if we had any suggestions. One friend suggested a cocktail with mint, I suggested a cocktail with pomegranate, as one of the appetizers had it as an ingredient. We were then told that nether of those suggestions were particularly helpful, as a lot of the ingredients she needed weren't available in India? It was an odd convo and its possible we misunderstood her. By the time ordering entrees came around, I'd started to hear other tables being told certain items on the menu provided were not available. When the same waitress that suggested appetizers came to take our entrees, she didn't even ask what we wanted and instead told us we should order the chicken tikka and the palak paneer. One friend tried to order kal dosa and was told they didn't have it, at which point the waitress again told us what things we should order and then stated 'this is our soft launch, so we don't have some things'. I'd planned on ordering Mangalore Squid for my entree but realized at this point that despite the size of the menu, it was clear that they were only cooking and serving specific items. Everything that we ordered was delicious, beautifully served, and came out hot and quick. I have zero complaints about the food. Once the bill came, the same pushy waitress put down a giant, laminated QR code and insisted we leave a review. We paid, she left, then looped back around, tapped on the QR code and said 'You leaving a review is the most important thing to us' then walked off again. She then came back a third time, said 'are you done with this??' and snatched the QR code so some other table could be pressured into a review I assume. As we were leaving, we merged with another group outside that was discussing their meal and commenting on things reflecting our experience. I told them I could tell them exactly what they ordered despite not being at their table, and then rattled off what we'd been told to order; it was item for item. So my main complaint here is print out a menu that reflects what you're serving. You can't 'soft launch' forever and its actually not fair to your wait staff to set up a menu that results in them having to tell people multiple times that something isn't available while also simultaneously pressuring the table into ordering what IS available. It really tainted the entire experience for me personally.

One of the most memorable dishes we had was a special that our server highly recommended--and it was truly a showstopper. I wish I had gotten the exact name because I can't find it on their online menu, but visually and flavor-wise it was stunning. It came wrapped and cooked in a banana leaf, layered with rich, velvety saag, what tasted like thin dosa or chapati layers, egg, aromatic spices, tender chunks of meat, and curry, all melded together into this beautifully perfumed, steamy package. It was served with a cooling yogurt sauce and a chili sauce that balanced the heat perfectly. The presentation alone was gorgeous, and the flavors were deep, earthy, and incredibly comforting. We also ordered the curry goat, which was delicately spiced with a wonderful, slow-building heat. The meat was tender, the gravy rich without being heavy, and it paired perfectly with the simple white rice that let the complex spices shine. The tandoori goat chops were the family favorite by far. Everyone loved the smoky char and bold marinade. Personally, I found them a bit softer than I prefer, but the flavor was outstanding--robust, well-seasoned, and unmistakably tandoori. Finally, we ordered the Tandoori Pomfret to go, and I had it later with rice porridge. It was absolutely scrumptious. The fish was fragrant, beautifully spiced, and still juicy, making it the perfect comfort meal with the warm, soothing porridge. Overall, Subham Chettinad Grill delivers authentic, soulful Indian cooking with layers of spice, heat, and aroma that feel both traditional and thoughtfully prepared. If you're looking for real South Indian and Chettinad-style flavors in Austin, this place is a must-try.

We ordered spring onion dosa, kottu parantha, paneer butter masala, garlic naan, and butter roti. It was more than enough for 4 people. Spring Onion dosa was crisy and filled with all the veggies like capsicum, carrot, onion, cabbage. We asked for kottu parantha with paneer and it was blended well. Portion size was also good. Paneer butter masala was ok, lot of gravy and spices. Naan and roti were decent. Staff was generous. We got food in very short time. They messed up with our cheque though. We paid for 85 dollars and wondering after payment why the amount was so high. After few hours, restaurant manager called us to tell he messed up and we paid for other table.
