Had the BEST service and food at India Grill! The woman running the restaurant was beyond kind and served amazing authentic Indian food. It is usually take out only but she accommodated us and let us eat in:) best Indian food in Portland by FAR! 10/10

Love the location and atmosphere and the owner seems really sweet. Big negative is no liquor license and prices have gone up (I.e.: $20 for Lamb Vindaloo dish alone). Food was really good but we've had better. That said, I really want this place to succeed.

I really enjoy getting food from here. A little inconsistent on the heat level, but tasty nonetheless. This is a regular go to for me.

How are the serving sizes, enough to get a fully grown male full off of an order of tiki masala?

Absolutely! I'm a woman, but I order an extra rice and get three full meals out of an order. I use to get Tiki Masala at an authentic restaurant in Jackson Heights, NYC, and I can tell you that India Grill can compete with my favorite dish from that… Read more

The menu is a bit challenging to navigate the first time through, but the staff is lovely and will help direct you. I'll say that the printed direction to order 4-7 dishes per person would be crazy. We did not need 35 dishes! Some of the dishes are very small, and some are enormous, so ask if you don't know to strike the perfect balance. Some are offered on a range of 1-5 spiciness, and it definitely leans on the spicy side, so you may want to stick with 1-3. The flavors here are fabulous! I was so impressed that with all vegan ingredients, each dish was fully differentiated and had its own unique flavor profile. The dining area reminded me so much of the street cafes throughout Asia. They nailed that fun, casual feel

Somewhat like a samosa filling but still quite unique. Wasn't spicy but was very flavorful. Combination plate with Seeni Sambal (caramelised onion tamarind chutney), Polos (jackfruit curry), Deviled pineapple (daily special; the best of the lot!), Radish salad, Mustard Greens salad, and chickpea curry. Served with rice and papadum. The seeni sambal was the only mediocre thing on the platter. Loved the deviled pineapple where pineapple was stewed in a spicy sauce. The pineapple pieces had absorbed the sauce really well and were very juicy with a nice bite to them. The polos is also a must try - raw jackfruit really absorbs spices well and the fleshy and stringy / fibrous texture made it extra delicious. The mustard green and radish salad were also very moist and lightly seasoned, while the chickpea curry was only mildly spiced but balanced the rest of the dishes well. Mango ice tea (4/5) - we got it unsweetened so the mango flavor did not really come through all that well. Very friendly staff/owners. Parking can be a little had to find - we parked at a spot about a 5 min walk away. Gender neutral restroom located past the kitchen so they ask you to wear a mask while walking to the restroom. Outdoor and patio seating with very beautiful decor. Love the ambience and the whole vibe.

There's…read moredefinitely a part of me that misses pre-pandemic era when lunch buffets were common place and this place is only a few blocks from my office. I got there a little after 11:30. The sign said the buffet started at 11:30 but they weren't ready, so I had to wait a little bit. Not a big deal, especially when a place is trying something new. It gave me an opportunity to check out the space. Like a lot of Indian restaurants, it's a little over the top, with the decor pushing towards opulent but not in an overly stuffy way. The buffet was setup along the bar top, and it was clear they were still figuring it out. Instead of chafing dishes and sternos, they were using electric warming trays and setting out the cookware on top of them. Price wise, it's $20, which feels like the going rate these days (i.e. it's the same as Namaste). That being said, the smaller setup and the individually cooked items meant a way higher quality of food. There was a chicken curry, mushroom magic, a daal, chicken tikka, gulab jamun and a handful of other items including a fusion quesadilla with chicken and pieces of fried paneer. The curry was fine, nothing special. The daal (I think tadka?) was a little thinner than I prefer and a slightly over-seasoned, but was good even with the over seasoning. The mushroom magic was good, but the real spotlight was the chicken tikka. With everything being prepared in smaller batches than the stereotypical buffet, this was the moistest chicken tikka I ever had, and the texture and flavor far exceeded anything I would expect from a buffet. They did bring out fresh naan, but that felt like something they were doing since it was still new/slow, i.e. they had naan on the buffet line too. The only thing I would have liked would have beeen some achar, but I'm sure that puts me in a very small slice of potential customers. Definitely see myself coming back here, and ideally dragging along some of my coworkers. tl;dr; smaller buffet with incredible quality due

I would consider coming back to dine in with friends. The sliders were so good! My coworkers were not impressed by the looks due to the simple looking buns and American cheese but I can vouch that the taste was 5 stars. Check them out!

Our party of five was seated at a communal table with another party of three. We eventually ended up partially joining conversations, but I have mixed feelings about the communal dining format in general, but the more outgoing folks in our party enjoyed it! We had a great time, starting our drinks with individual gin and tonics and then moving to a bottle of wine for a few of us. The food was delicious and very abundant. There was a lot left over on the table after all of courses, which I hope was eaten later by staff. Otherwise it's a lot of waste. Food included samosas with four different sauces including an amazing eggplant dish; roasted seasonal fall vegetables with a yogurt sauce; rice and sautéed greens; chicken kofta meatballs in a tomato curry sauce; Kheer rice pudding with hot spiced chai tea. The chef and staff were friendly and interacted with us while serving. Overall, we had a great dinner and met some interesting folks at our table. A great experience and fairly affordable compared to other supper club type experiences.

Course two - curry mussels with coconut milk ("Mussels Malabar") served with piping hot flatbread. Course three - rustic chicken curry, served with a lemony rice and a shockingly interesting cabbage dish. Course four - an Indian dessert that was a combination of rice pudding and bananas foster. The entire family left stuffed to the gills and smiling. Dinner is in a cozy kitchen with family style tables - service was extremely attentive but convivial. I would not hesitate to go again. At $50 a person, it's a great value and walks the perfect line between elegance/sophistication and comfort/warmth.

The interior was very warm, inviting and attractive. The gentleman running the place was very friendly, personable and efficient. Bathrooms were very clean. The food was all great, but the star of the show was the Aloo Tikki Chaat, the menu description of two potato patties doesn't do it justice. It was a flavor bomb. It comes with mint chutney, tamarind chutney and raita. This dish also comes with a side of chana masala, which is a chickpea stew. The sauces added even more flavor and the chana masala was divine. Although it's an appetizer, it's pretty big. It could be a full meal for one person or you could add a couple of sides and it would work for two. We decided to split the chicken curry and the Daal Mah, another bean stew. The chicken curry was beyond, the chicken was so tender. The Daal was also quite good and both came with rice. We ordered mild and next time I would go up one level on the spiciness, it would add some oomph to the flavor. But we still really enjoyed both dishes. I'm shocked that on a Saturday at noon it was only us and one other table. This was a fantastic meal. Do yourself a favor and go there!!
