My boyfriend and I stopped here on a Thursday morning after dropping my car off for some work nearby. I got the loaded hashbrowns and he got the breakfast sandwich. I could make the hashbrowns dairy and gluten free. They really hit the spot and highly recommend. I also had a sangria and he had a mimosa. Both equally delicious and would get again. The service was good despite how busy they were. Overall I would come back again.
What a great brunch/lunch spot! Drinks are delicious and strong, food has great flavors and is very fresh, and the servers are so nice. Those tortillas were for sure hand made - yummmmmy. Cute brunchy vibe for your weekend mornings with a homey feel.
A cozy brunch spot with open interior and high ceiling. I enjoyed how they elevate traditional diner dishes with high quality ingredients and techiniques. The Breakfast Burrito with sausage had some of my favorite sausages! Herby and savory. The use of hashbrowns rather than country potatoes inside was a plus but I did wish they'd toasted the outside of the burrito. The cilantro salsa was a 10/10 though! The Corned Beef Hash was also tasty. Very generous with the corned beef and the eggs were poached perfectly. Surprisingly, my favorite of the meal was the side order of French Toast! It's more like toasted bread pudding but the texture and flavor were so decadent and custardy. I was a fan. Definitely one of their better brunch spots in town. Staffs were very friendly and service was fast too.
Friendly, hip staff. Lots of seating. Deals daily $5 mimosas Tuesday-Thursday. Industry discount Thursday-Saturday off of your bill. Small menu but solid choices. Better to do a few things well instead of many things mediocrely. Brunchy and can get a bit crowded on the weekends. They have a good homemade corned beef hash. Come if you are into strong mimosas.
Been hearing all the positive news on this place. Well it didn't disappoint. The chicken and waffles with the bacon butter was great. Skinless, boneless chicken, two big pieces, crispy, and not spicy which I like. The homemade waffle was dense and had flavor. So much better than those light flavorless waffles. The OJ was a bit tart for me but maybe the season, also not used to having ice in my OJ. I was there for lunch and had to go back to work so no boozy fun drink this time. My friend enjoyed her burrito and it was huge so she took half home. I also took half of my chicken and waffles home. The biscuit I got as I always look for good biscuits. This was a different style. Very dense and super buttery. I do prefer the light flaky style. So it is good just not my preference. I bet this is very popular on the weekend but will have to come back again for sure.
This restaurant is in a little shopping center. The sign is colorful and easy to spot. We walked in with no reservation on a Tuesday at noon. The restaurant was full but not completely packed. It had an at home feel to it, cozy and inviting. Our server asked where we wanted to sit. We sat by the countertop bar by a window. The menus were already placed on the table. I noticed that they have GF options! It took awhile for our server to come back to ask for our order. I chose the loaded hash browns and the breakfast martini. After while, it was served! Servers are kind. Everything was very tasty! I enjoyed it!
Great vibe and eclectic menu, service was better than average. The Honduran Baleadas sounded better than it tasted. We added crispy chicken, but there was barely any. I'd certainly eat it again if it was in front of me, but not a reorder. The Berry Waffle was excellent. Waffle edges were nice and crisp, an ample portion. One of those might come back, might not places.
So glad that Flattop & Salamander is thriving years later! This is one of the most underrated brunch spots in Portland in my opinion. Friendly service, consistently good food, and a large cocktail menu. Yes, it's fairly small and they can get busy, but that's weekend brunch for you. Plus a parking lot in inner Eastside?! Too easy!
Another weekend in town, so I decided to try a new brunch place. This week, I found Flattop & Salamander. As I wandered into the parking lot, I can see a decent crowd outside the establishment, expecting a wait to be seated. As I approach the hostess, I requested a seat for one, and to my surprise seeing the full house, I was seated immediately at the bar. The bartender acknowledged me immediately. I ordered a coffee, which came out at perfect temperature and in a decent sized Starbucks mug. The bartender gave me a minute to review the menu, and took my order promptly after I decided to pick the corn beef hash. The bartender asked if I wanted ketchup with my order in which I responded "yes". My order came out at a reasonable time, that reflect that my food was cooked to ordered and not being scooped out of a container after being pre made or pulled out of a freezer, waiting to be thawed. The corn beef hash browns were well balanced and portioned. I would come back.
There are a surprising amount of "made in-house" items on the menu, which is welcome and appreciated. Staff is very friendly, and knowledgeable, but professionalism was lacking. I entered, and couldn't find anyplace to check in, and was ignored by all identifiable staff. I left (confused) for a few minutes, and on my second entry, there was an employee standing behind a previously unstaffed table at the entrance (which also doubled as the storage area for flatware and napkins) who took my name and put me on the list (estimating a 40 to 50-minute wait). After about 45 minutes, we were seated at the bar. After we ordered (roughly ten minutes later), I got a phone call from the same employee who took my name and seated us to let me know that our table was ready...weird. Anyway, the food was good, but not noteworthy. Server and bar staff were friendly and helpful. Ambiance is weird, with a rather crowded interior (bar area is particularly cramped...tables appeared to have more room). A huge plus is the private parking lot. Most businesses in the area only have street parking.
We had a DELICIOUS brunch here. Staff was friendly, all the food and drinks were super fresh. We ordered: - traditional bloody Mary -- excellent, heavy on the celery salt which I'm a fan of. - fresh grapefruit juice -- YUM! Definitely fresh and pulpy - chicken and Waffles 50/50 -- boyfriend said he preferred the bacon butter version over the spicy one, but they are both good. The waffles are TOP NOTCH - Honduran Beleadas -- this was like the perfect meal. The tortillas are so fresh and a little thicker (I assume authentic to Honduran style perhaps), savory eggs inside, yummy beans, and the two sauces compliment it nicely. Wouldn't hesitate to return here and try more of the menu if I were in town again :)
The food was great. Top notch. Our issue was with the disorganized host, who passed us up after saying we would be next, then lied when they said they called us. We were right there listening. Especially after being told we were the next table for three. We finally got in and it was worth the nearly 2 hour wait. But the host organization needs improvement as this place is popular.

Great food & service. Chill Sat afternoon vibes. The Corn beef hash w/ egg on top was so flavorful paired w/ samosas. Wish they had more outside seating, but we were sat inside immediately to get the samosas flowing. There's a surprise when the bottle pops. The lemonade is delicious. read more
Almost 5 stars! Amazing service from our friendly waiter dude, and the big honking Baleadas here were a huge hit with me - basically they are giant tacos stuffed with eggs beans and cheese, Honduran style. Homemade tortillas, too. Coffee from Nossa Familia is on point and they give you free refills which is nice for a $4 cuppa. Atmosphere is rustic-y, open and somehow cheery but warehouse-y if that makes sense. All good - the food trumps all. A bit spendy but I'd say the ingredients almost justify it. I say almost because my buddy was charged $8 to add two (2) eggs to his vegan Hash. Last time I checked eggs were $1.50 a dozen. Man, that is one ridiculously hefty markup. So, minus one star - no excuse. read more

So today I tried the Rueben on gf bread. So freaking good! The place was hopping again and Nick the bartender was mixing up the boozy brunch cocktails. Spanish coffee is my fav! The servers here make you feel like family and it's one of the best places to come any day of week. read more

Had brunch there and it was great. My friend and had biscuits & gravy and they were great! I had the breakfast martini (very tasty) and my friend did the Bloody Mary ( spicy). Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is bright and cheerful but small. read more

Top brunch spot held up to the hype. The baked French toast = hell yes! Get sauce on the side. I wanted something savory well so I ordered the breakfast sandwich. It was a good parent overall. I'm also left with leftovers not because I couldn't handle the meal, but I wanted to revisit this tomorrow morning. They are known for some boozy cocktails. I went with the salamander split. It was heavy on the cava but a good amount of grapefruit. Atmosphere was busy. The food took a little longer than expected, but it was well worth the weight. The staff was very friendly as well as the host. We waited about 30 minutes and walked over to get coffee for an ice latte as it was very hot today. read more

Yes, the photo is basically just what looks like a cheeseburger. No, it was not. It had flavor, it had charisma, and it was fantastic (but a bit too greasy). We attended for brunch on a Saturday. It was packed and we had to wait about half an hour. Aside from the assault of bees, it was well worth the wait. We were able to sit outside. The staff was so accommodating and pleasant. We all had something different from the menu and we were all appeased. I'd most definitely visit this location again. Prices are fair and service is great. Highly recommend. read more

The waffles are a 10/10. Fluffy, sweet, chicken was perfectly cooked. The sliders were good, fries crispy and the ranch was great! The Spanish coffee was hot and strong. Second time coming here, wait time was 30 mins but worth the wait read more

Went here for brunch and upon arriving, we checked in and there was a bit of a wait for a table. The wait was about 15 mins. Once we were inside the restaurant, I found the restaurant staff to be friendly and on top of things. Drinks were kept full and the food didn't take long to come out. There is a parking lot for this restaurant along with the other establishments it is next to, and I didn't have a hard time finding parking. Would visit again. read more

Impressive brunch cocktail list. We had kind of a long wait but there are other places to walk to nearby while you're killing time. I had the chicken and waffles, which was quite good. The waffle was nice and sturdy and stayed a little crunchy even with the maple butter syrup. My partners loaded hashbrowns were serious business. We took most of that dish home and I enjoyed it reheated the next day. Would be nice if you could join the waitlist online in advance. I'd have added another star for that. read more

Service was awesome, went for my birthday, we went for brunch and got their Monte cristo waffles and chicken and waffles. Food was great, I would've preferred to be able to control the amount of syrup that went on the waffles but other than that pretty good spot. Portland is hard with all the good brunch spots. I'd definitely go back. read more

The moment I walked in I was greeted by my wonderful server! He was so warm and cheerful on a very chilly day, just the kind of person everyone needs to make their day better! A beautiful fresh squeezed mimosa was next... and only $5! Wow a weekday bargain, and Cava, no less! The menu is brunch classics, all done to the delight of everyone I could see and hear around me. It was a spoil myself day, so I had to go with Chicken and Waffles. They offer a choice of bacon maple syrup or spicy siracha hot honey OR BOTH! Both, please. Absolutely way too much and way too decadent... just what was expected. Carb and sugar coma commence! A complete happy experience, will 100 percent be back. This is a daily brunch spot that serves food until 3:00 pm. We went early for breakfast. There were three of us and we decided to share plates, so we ordered three items and all dug into each of the entrees. We thought all three were excellent. First, we had the Honduran Baleadas. Basically these are breakfast tacos. They make their tortillas in-house, which were warm, soft, and excellent. We got them with no added bacon, sausage, or fried chicken (we had meat with our other entrees) and they were still maybe the best thing we had. I highly recommend these! We also got the chicken and waffles. They offer maple with bacon butter or hot chili honey with lime and cilantro, or you can go with one of each. We tried them both. I would recommend the maple bacon over the other, but both are good. The waffle is a bit crispy, which almost gives it a friend funnel cake vibe, which is great for holding up to the glaze and the chicken. The waffle doesn't get soggy or fall apart. This was also an excellent choice. The final dish was the biscuits and sausage gravy (we added two fried eggs). These were also good. We got to them last, so they had cooled a bit. I think they would have been better if we had tucked into them sooner. I still liked them, but liked the other two things better. My wife also tried the Spanish Coffee. We could see them flaming things behind the bar during the preparation process which was cool. She reported that the drink was excellent also. Portion sizes are plenty without being ridiculous! I came here for a "boozy brunch" (for the first time) and had a great time. This restaurant is located in a plaza for easy parking and has plenty of seating inside with high ceilings that make it spacious. Service here is super friendly and easy-going. My boyfriend and I got two drinks (a bloody mary and an alcoholic hot chocolate) in addition to our mains: the Reuben sandwich and chicken & waffles with a side of mac n' cheese. Everything was delicious. I love how the chicken and waffles offered different syrups/seasonings on top of the classic plain chicken and maple syrup. I got the half-and-half and it was so so delicious (but definitely heavy for a breakfast). My boyfriend got the reuben and a side of mac n' cheese and it was also delicious. Although I enjoyed my chicken & waffles, his sandwich was so good I couldn't stop taking bites. Overall, amazing food and the drinks were pretty good too! Highly recommend. read more
