Fair warning for any food delivery workers: I do delivery orders and many times I get orders from this place I show up and they are closed. The app will still send the delivery through as if they are open and the order is ready to pick up, but they are closed... UPDATE: I called to make sure they were still open for my recent delivery which worked out and I talked to the people that work there and this is an issue between the app and the restaurant. I changed the experience to a 5 out of 5 because it is not the restaurants fault, it is the app which for some reason has an issue with the closing time of this place in particular for reasons beyond me. I ordered the butter masala with rice, butter naan, and vegetable samosa. Personally, I'm only giving this a 4 instead of a 5 because the naan bread was a more blackened than I like. I've been to Indian restaurant that serve their rice with and without herbs/seasoning in it, and this place doesn't. The vegetable samosas come with a mint sauce and a fruit one. Granted the naan and pilaf are great. But I asked - on two separate occasions - for "very mild" for my Palak Paneer, which is rarely very spicy. Both times the order was so flaming spicy that I had to throw it out. Never coming back - why ask me whether I want mild, medium or hot if you are always going to give very hot? Maybe Punjabis cannot do anything mild....If you love food so hot your mouth catches fire, go for it. But not for me. read more

Don't judge, but I think Naan N Curry was my first true Indian food experience, and wow, I understand the hype. I got the Punjabi Dal Tadka without garlic and onions, and it was incredible. Naan N Curry stood out for me in terms of Indian food in Portland. It's an amazing place with really good food. Been here couple of times. We tried palak paneer, tandoor roti, samosa chat, chicken tandoori, lassi. Everything was perfect and good. The drinks are good too. Ambiance is very good with funny bollywood posters all around the place. They could definitely improve on their service because both the times when I went, they didn't gave an option to us to select the tip and they added it by themselves which is not a good practice. This was my first visit to Naan n Curry. I had Mango Chicken Tikka Masala. Food was DELICIOUS! The restaurant is small and clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking is on the street and also in a back parking lot. I enjoyed the tikka masala so much that I ordered more to take home with me for lunch the next day. My wife also loved it, and said she has a new favorite place to eat when we go to Portland next time. I strongly recommend eating here. I loved it! read more

Considering the high star rating I was surprised and dismayed at the food at Naan & Curry in St. Johns. The service was attentive (although we did have to request the server/busser, which was the same person ,to take our dirty dishes away while we stayed and visited). Unfortunately that was the best part of our dining experience. The ambiance is lacking. Not much effort has been made to decorate or make it feel welcoming. Now for the food: This was the worst part. I must say I'm a bit of an Indian food snob because I have lived and traveled in India. If I'm going to go to an Indian restaurant I expect the flavors and ingredients to be authentic and flavorful. My friend and I shared the Chicken Korma and Madras mixed vegetable curry, plain naan and mango lassis. The Korma was ok. Nothing great. It lacked salt. The vegetable curry was the worst. The vegetables seemed to come out of a big industrial Sysco bag. Broccoli and mushrooms are NOT authentic Indian vegetables. I never saw broccoli in India! And there were your standard snacking "baby" carrots in there too. Yikes! That tells me they are lazy. The spice mixture tasted like grocery store curry powder. Ick. That would explain the bright yellow color. Yes, many Indian dishes with turmeric are yellow, but this was not authentic turmeric yellow. It lacked salt , and none was on the table. The consistency of the gravy was slightly gluey as well. The naan was ok. You can get better frozen at your local Indian market. It was thin and overcooked. The mango lassis were fine. I enjoyed them the most of everything. All you need to make those are a blender, a can of "mango pulp" and yogurt. Boom! You can make them at home. It just felt like nobody cares about this place, from the cold, stark décor to the low quality food. Maybe if you don't know your Indian food it's fine but I won't be wasting my money at any of their locations in the future. read more

Delicious food and good service in a diner ambience that in no way matches the food served here. The bright American style diner interior is not an indicator of the layered, nuanced Indian food served here. It doesn't matter really because the food, the service and the dinner conversation ultimately matter more to me and my dining partners. Our food was outstanding--I can't wait to return to try something more daring than medium heat curry. Don't get me wrong--that curry was great. I just suspect there's a whole menu of great waiting to be discovered. There's no alcohol available at this early point of their St. John's location, but it's coming. This is why I believe in second chances. We ate here twice and the first time, I literally couldn't finish the food because it was bland and just tasted like it was re-heated. But we ran out of options on a late night be begrudgingly came back here expecting to just get nourishment rather than a good meal. To our surprise, we got the stuff naan and curry with an chicken indo-Chinese fusion dish and it was fantastic! It was a good amount of spicy (which we like) and a great savory taste that complimented the naan perfectly. I don't know what happened the first time but the second made up for it completely.
