Went there last evening with my wife to try an Indian restaurant as we had a great experience in NYC with Indian restaurant. Place overall is average. Asked for suggestions and ordered two appetizers and two dinners (pani puri, achari chicken tikka, chicken biryani, lamb chilli masala). Also ordered garlic naan and two drinks. Pani puri had no flavor or taste. Chicken tikka some of the chicken was not cooked and was rubbery. Chicken biryani was ordered medium and lamb chilli was ordered hot; chicken biryani was more spicy than the lamb dish and all one could taste was the hotness and pepper. Lamb dish had no flavors either except for some pepper. Naan was again soft and without flavors either and no crispiness to it. Only thing that was of any flavor was the masala tea at the end. In regard to the bill, at the end, there is a 3% service charge for using credit card. There are many Indian restaurants in Chicago to try. This one is not worth the try and is a waste of money. read more

It was our first time back since the pandemic and I will never take buffets for granted again. The best one is the lunch buffet at India House. Even if you think you're too full for dessert, make sure you try the mango kulfi. I swear it's a digestif because I felt so much better after a single scoop even though moments ago I had just overstuffed myself. And they have better tropical cocktails than the tiki bar around the corner. It's so hard to find a classic piña colada, it really made my Chicago staycation to chase the best Indian buffet with the best blended drink in town. Lunch Buffet Review: This is a classic Indian lunch buffet - we were pretty surprised by the spread of vegetarian and non vegetarian options and so as an Indian-American myself, I walked in c r a v i n g some food from the motherland and was excited by the options. I'll be honest - it wasn't anything amazing; it was an average buffet. The naans were soft and flaky albeit a bit dry, food on average was not spicy at all, and samosas were tasty but small and had a lot of air pockets in them. For my veggies out there: they had 4 veggie curries: palak paneer, dal makhani, an aloo dish, and a chickpea palak dish (vegan). Pretty average, kind of bland, BUT was much much better than the Trader Joe's Indian food I'd be falling back on. The mango lassi was delicious, more on the creamy sweet side. And the gulab jamuns were soft and perfect! I feel like I'm coming off as more harsh than I mean to be because I would recommend this as a casual lunch buffet. If you're craving a classic Indian lunch buffet, definitely go! But take it for what it is - and appreciate it for what it offers, not what it may lack in style and authenticity. read more

Luke warm buffet and room temperature nan. The food would have better if it were hot. A lot of people like the food. My petite waitress just didn't care to bring out hot nan with oil brushed on the top. The lamb had many bone fragments in it difficult to eat. We were trying to decide on where to go for brunch and the thought of having waffles or pancakes, or some iteration of eggs sounded quite boring. As a result, I started on the search to see what other other options were available for lunch. That's when we found it, and stumbled upon a buffet. Now we don't have Indian lunch buffets anymore in my hometown since the Covid pandemic. However, in Chicago, it appears that there is still the art of an Indian lunch buffet available! That's how we found India House. And when we arrived, we were pleasantly greeted and immediately seated. They came by and took our drink orders and then double checked with us to see how many of us wanted to have some chicken. After that, we were welcome to roam the buffet. We started off with the chaat station where we got to have pani poori and chutney. This was so beautifully designed. They have the puris already filled and then you get a bowl with the chutney and so you can dip your pani poori into the chutney. The pani had a wonderful mint taste. It was a lovely way to start the meal. Then came the buffet. It started with South Indian options like idli, sambhar, and medu vada. This transitioned to rice options like biryani and plain rice. From there came the vegetables: channa masala, paneer tikka masala, a cabbage dish, and then more chicken options. This was followed by a buffet option of onions, peppers, lemons, limes to complement your meal. There were so so many options to have your meal. Our first option was to have the South Indian food. Our next trip included the rice and veggie options. At our table, they brought a basket of naan along with the tandoori chicken. I think we all went back to the buffet at least 2-3 times. Everything was very tasty. It was a nice reminder of what Indian buffets use to be. We truly enjoyed our meal and had a lovely time. But still we had to wait for 15-20 mins to get seated. The server - Dhiraj was very good. We stated with Taj Mahal Beer and some appetizers. In appetizers, we ordered Paneer Tikka : It was served on a hot plate and it was really good. It wasn't dry and had really good taste. Mixed Pakora: They were fine too. Not too great. Masala Fries: Those were regular fries like you would get from McDonalds. Its a waste of money. Pani Puri: it was served in really good style. It was good too. For the Main Course we ordered Chicken Tikka Masala: I didn't eat that but everyone who ate it said it was very very good. Chana Masala: they were good too garnished with Chopped onions and green chilies. Oh yeah to my surprise, such a famous Indian Restaurant did not have Indian Green Chillies and were serving Jalapeño. Dal: it was actually good too. Unlike i have tried in restaurants. Kadhai Paneer: I didn't like the sauce / gravy of the Kadhai Paneer but it was okay. Vegetarian Biryani: it was served with Raita. Unauthentic Indian restaurant. I would call it an Indian American fusion for a lot of items. I ordered following items Only Good thing was their Nan and vegetable korma. Dal Makhani, had no butter in it and for those who don't know Makhani means Buttery. Chicken 65 was not good as well but more tangy. Kheer had cinnamon in it, which is again very Americanized fusion. Tried the buffet here today (open only on weekends and $20/person which to me was on the pricier side) and it's a 7/10 for me so it was pretty average to my standards. Id recommend this place for a local who doesn't like a spicy platter and enjoys Indian food. For my Indian friends who enjoy spice and more non-veg options, I'd go somewhere else. Came out with my gf here and I enjoyed the fresh tandoori chicken and naan that comes free with the Buffett. We both loved the gulab jamun that was perfectly made and is a must try if you do do the budget. However, there wasn't a good variety in choices for the food. I would've enjoyed a meat biriyani option which is a classic staple for Indian buffets. The fish curry needed a lot more flavor and a bit more spice. My food palate is on the spicier side and the food didn't meat ( pun intended) my expectations. The chicken tikka masala was probably the best food item on the menu but it did seem overcooked to me and a little more dry than I would like but the naan that you eat it with is of course a great pair. I loved the chefs salad for its fresh and mixed ingredients. One other thing I enjoyed and appreciated was the service. During buffets, the used plates that I finished with each round of food was quickly cleaned up by the staff before I brought my next plate to the table. Parking is nearby with about two garages for nearby walking distances. Street parking is very tough during lunch time so don't rely on that when you come. I would have given a 3 stars for the buffet but the other benefits and pros of the place brought it up to a 4. I would give it a 5 stars for more food options and a lot more non-veg options in the buffet especially since the buffet is $20. read more

Well, I haven't been to India, yet; although it's definitely on my "Bucket List". But, I have had my fair share of Indian food, all over the world! My favorite Indian restaurants to date all have been in London, England. Yes, I have, eaten at Indiene here in Chicago, but that food was from another planet (take that as a huge compliment for them). Tonight at India House Restaurants in the River North district of Chicago, London has definitely met its match! The food being brought out of India Houses kitchen was unbelievable. * First off, all six of our chosen dishes came out simultaneously which really added to the convenience of our meal * Second off, every dish had the exact heat level we asked for, and this alone is a rarity * Third off, if your sitting in an Indian Restaurant and the majority of patrons there are (of) Indian decent, this is a fantastic "Tell" for what you will be in store for........and it was! Our: Chicken Makhani, Lamb Vindaloo, Jerra Aloo, Chana Masala, Naan bread with yogurt was so damn good, us three souls were awe struck. Our dinner was outstanding! Better yet, our breakfast left overs this morning was even better (if that's at all possible) than last nights dinner (maybe not, but I'm just saying). The service was exemplary, the ambiance was great, our open window table added a real "Chicago" feel to our dinner. For a lunch, India house is good deal. It's a buffet for a very reasonable price in the city. There is a wide selection of food for both vegetarians and meat eaters. You can also order other items on the menu if you want more than just the buffet. The staff was very nice as we had a large party and didn't have a reservation. Delicious! I don't have Indian food very often (I don't have a good reason for that), but a friend and I ventured out after the big snowstorm this week to give it a try. It exceeded my expectations! Everyone was super friendly. We almost had the whole place to ourselves (again, snowstorm, so I think a lot of people weren't venturing out). We expressed our appreciation to the staff for coming in on a gross night and I think they were appreciative we came in! Our server, Dhiraj, was great as well. My friend and I admitted we weren't too familiar with Indian food, and he was great about giving recommendations for what was most popular. He also advised about spice level, which I appreciated because I have a low tolerance for spice. All of his recommendations were spot on. We also got a bottle of wine, and Dhiraj was helpful when he realized they were out of the initial bottle we wanted so we had to pick another. No complaints there, as the wine we ended up with was delicious. Dhriaj was very attentive, checking in every once in a while without hovering. He was also great about bringing us a bunch of containers to pack up leftovers (we ordered wayyyy too much food, but yay leftovers!). It's a great ambiance too-my friend and I ended up at this little booth with its own crystal chandelier, it was a fun vibe. Pricing seemed very reasonable; it was a high bill but we ordered a ton of food and a bottle of wine so I'm not complaining. The only downside was we were too full to try dessert! Bummer, maybe next time! We got the vegetable samosas, paneer makhani, lamb briyani, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, and masala naan. They also brought complementary naan and rice, which had we known about those we might have scaled back (though I'm not sure what I would have nixed!). Went for first time on father's day 2024. Plenty of variety and everything was hot and fresh when we arrived as they first opened. We were seated along the table that sat along the outside which was nice. The food was not overly spicy but had the right amount of kick. I like how they bring the naan and chicken tikka to your table, the chicken was juicy and flavorful. Service was attentive, but I really hate when restaurants stick a pos device in your face to pay, and it already defaults to a 22% tip, I mean c'mon let me tip what I want without forcing me to change it. The weirdest part was the server asking us to scan a qr code and leave her a positive Google review (to get more tables she claimed). We couldn't get it to work but she still just stood there wanting us to literally do the review on the spot.
