Sushi Nova is an AYCE style sushi joint, located in the northern half of the Loop at Franklin and Randolph. I work right by the office and encourage others to stop in after work for a bite. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is nice -- plenty of seats, nice views within and out the windows. I feel like a rainy or snowy day would be dreamy with delicious rolls and looking out their big front windows. I did an AYCE dinner special, and ordered edamame and a variety of Nigiri items to start: seabags, scallop, whitefish, and the surf clam. I especially loved the whitefish rolls, but all were good and I would've ordered more. I am not too adventurous with my rolls, I ordered some spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, and salmon rolls. I like to keep it simple. Here's some good things to share: the rolls were good. Service also was good. There are a lot of AYCE places where the sushi doesn't taste fresh (there is a popular experiential spot that I find to be hit/miss). The food and hospitality was good, and I enjoyed myself. Called in a pickup order at 9pm, they close at 9:30 -- they kindly accommodated with no issue. Order was ready in 10 minutes, perfectly packaged with a generous amount of soy sauce and two ponzu sauces. Got the sushi appetizer, spicy crispy tuna signature roll, and sweet potato roll. Portions were really good. The food is well made, great presentation, and clearly put together with some care even on a last-minute order right before close. The spicy crispy tuna was the standout for me...bold, well balanced, exactly what you want from a signature roll. The sweet potato was a solid closer, nice and comforting. For a pickup spot that squeezed me in on a tight timeline, Sushi Nova really delivered. Would absolutely order again next time I'm in Chicago. read more

Came with my boyfriend for a quick lunch during the work day and they did not disappoint!! We didn't have a res, but the restaurant is pretty big and we were able to sit very quickly. Our server was friendly and attentive. We did the AYCE menu and I was surprised that all the rolls they brought were FULL SIZE (at least 8 pieces each). I'm used to smaller portions for AYCE but I'm glad we came hungry. The total for both of us was around $60, which I think is very reasonable for the amount of food that we each ate. We got the octopus salad, cucumber salad, fried kalamari, shrimp tempura, the caterpillar roll, one of the dragon rolls (?), salmon avo roll, salmon and white tuna nigiri, and another that I don't remember. For dessert we also got fried Oreos and a scoop of matcha ice cream. The food was all pretty good and really filling. Stopped into Sushi Nova for a quick to-go order and decided to give it a try since they've got a big menu and even an all-you-can-eat option. The service was relatively fast and efficient I was in and out without any issues. Unfortunately, the fish quality just wasn't great. The texture felt a bit off and not as fresh as I'd hoped for. It kind of had that typical "mid-tier sushi spot" feel, plenty of variety, but the overall execution was just okay. For the price, it's fine, you definitely get what you pay for. The also did a great job at accommodating allergies and making sure our allergy free rolls were separated from the rest. This place also had the best early 2000's music. Love that there's an AYCE sushi place in the Loop. They have a another location in Lincoln Park too! Typical AYCE sushi app, sushi, and dessert menu (so I got my faves like the shumai, crab rangoon, miso soup, seaweed salad, and a few rolls and tons of nigiri pieces) but also some more unique options like Tuna Avocado Tartare, Carpaccio Samples, Cocount Shrimp, poke bites, etc, and for every roll you order, you can get 3 pieces of sashimi! Nice place for dinner with a group--it's quite spacious. You can catch a sports game on the TV. Also quick service! Didn't get to try the AYCE in store, but my friend got two takeout party trays for her bday!! We had Party Tray A and Party Tray C. Party Tray A includes the spicy kani roll, spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, spicy 2 in 1 roll, and Chicago roll for $41.95 as of July 2025. Party Tray C includes the dragon roll, fire dragon roll, color dragon roll, and angel dragon roll. While all the sushi tasted good besides the one with the wasabi infused ikura on top, it was a bit mushy. Definitely quite affordable though - and you're paying for what you get. I'd get this again for a party just for the price, but meh if I'm paying a la carte per roll. read more

I rarely write reviews. I almost never write a bad review. But this place truly deserves zero stars. They served me a piece of sushi with a very large staple hidden in it. Incredibly dangerous and completely unacceptable. And when I showed them the staple, they hardly had any reaction--as if this were a common, trivial issue they encounter all the time. They took 15% off my $30 bill. I don't think anyone is interested in saving a few bucks at the risk of eating or getting cut by a sharp (and probably very dirty) staple. Did the all you can eat dinner here and had a great time! Lots of great options, our favorites were the rolls with mango and the coconut shrimp. I would recommend coming with a group so you can try a little of everything since sushi really fills you up fast. It wasn't crowded at all on a Sunday night and the food came out pretty fast after ordering each time. The one negative would be the mango mochi was rock hard and not very good! I would say that Sushi Nova is okay. They move pretty quickly and considering that it is all you can eat it is priced reasonably. It is comparable to some of the other all you can eat sushi places in the area. Where it fell short was with the consistency of the rolls and the flavors. Each round I ordered the same rolls and they tasted vastly different and it felt like i was getting more and more rice and less and less fish. The flavors for some of the rolls were a bit saltier and more saucy. This made me feel like the sushi was just a vehicle for the sauce. The appetizers were pretty good with things being crispy. The dessert ice cream was pretty icy. Service was relatively okay. Our waitress kept forgetting to put things into the system that was on our papers and we had to ask a couple of times for water refills. I love that this is so close to my office and I can have a good lunch downtown. The all you can eat is something I haven't done yet, but they have a huge menu with lots of lunch specials. The menu choices looked great with a wonderful variety of appetizers, various sushi, etc. I tried the fried scallops for an appetizer and they were excellent. Tender, sweet, and a nice accompanying sauce. My sushi selection was 3 various signature rolls including the Godzilla roll, Sunny Roll, and Fire Phoenix Roll. The presentation was stunning. I'm not one to take pics of my food but I did this one and sent it to my son. Impressive. The sushi was fresh, full of excellent flavors, and generous. The server was very attentive and stopped several times to see if all was ok. The host was also super nice. I was dining alone and he offered me a table by the window so I could look out. It's $32/person at dinner time but all the rolls are about $15-17 each so you might as well do AYCE if you can eat at least two rolls and then get apps included. At $32 per person, all you can eat sushi in this area of downtown Chicago is insane. You mark your order on a paper menu and hand it to the waiter. We waited until our first round came out before ordering more so we could see what everything looked like. They offer it sashimi, but you have to order with a roll each round. On our first round we marked sashimi and they only gave us one piece (the menu says 3 per order per roll). The next round we put 3 instead of just an X and we got three pieces. I loved the baby octopus salad and seaweed salad, but my favorite appetizer was the sashimi salad. All the rolls we ordered were so good and fresh. The carpaccio sampler was good also. The pieces of fish in the sampler were thicker in this compared to the sashimi they served with the sushi rolls. I can see why they limit this sashimi platter to one per person. I would highly recommend trying this place for lunch or dinner. The all-you-can-eat lunch price is $27 per person. Came here for the lunch specials. Got the teriyaki salmon bento, and the first salmon was raw inside... even the server agreed without hesitation and sent it back. Got a second salmon, and it was slightly more cooked, but it was floppy... do people like soft cooked salmon? I expected it to be seared. Also, the teriyaki sauce was watery, so none of it stuck to the salmon. My friend's 3 rolls were huge but sloppy. After tip, our meals were $23/each and not worth it.
