India House is my favorite Indian restaurant in the Twin Cities! I've been there a few times and have tried many dishes. I am partial to chicken dishes, but I have also had the lamb vindaloo, which was very good. My favorite dish is the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan bread. That's sort of my all-time favorite dish at any Indian restaurant, but still, really delicious here. The staff is always accommodating. I guess I've never been there when it's super busy, but the service and food has always been good for us. I highly recommend India House! read more

I live right by India House and it always hits the spot. Lots of room, good for big groups or just two. I like sitting by the window and watching the Grand traffic. Sunday buffet is great, but we often order take out (Chicken Makhani!!!!). I just wish the wait staff was a little friendlier. We've gone an entire meal without being checked on once! read more

I stop in regularly for the lunch buffet. It is decent. The food has recently improved over the last few months. If you intend to do the lunch buffet it is important to come at the peak time around noon for the freshest naan and entrees. If you order off the menu the quality of the food improves a bit. It is decent. India House is your best option on Grand Ave for Indian. Avoid the bathroom at all costs. It is nasty and had been for years. read more

This place is amazing! My boyfriend showed me India House when we were first dating a year and a half ago and we go at least every other month now. If we go out to eat, it's probably going to be India House :) The servers are friendly and attentive, and their food is FAR from being bland. We have introduced a number of our friends to India House and they have all loved it as much as we do. The chicken makhani and chicken palak are our faves (and naan of course). read more

Maybe I am too hard on Indian restaurants. I am Indian myself and have a mother who can cook Indian food that should be featured in gourmet food magazines. Really, I am just spoiled. I usually don't have high expectations when I visit Indian restaurants as I am typically woefully disappointed, especially if it is a buffet situation. I went to India House to meet a coworker for lunch and, unfortunately, all of my apprehensions were confirmed. The restaurant is HUGE and really would be a great for a large party. The buffet was fine. It was not bad, it was not good... it was fine. The servers seemed as though they really did not have too much to do and were hovering a bit... which made me feel like I had to eat super fast so they could take my plate and then hover near me again. I mean, I have nothing bad to say about the food - nor do I have anything good to say. It's about the same quality as you would get from a frozen Amy's meal and tastes about the same too. I am really bummed that Minneapolis does not have a single good Indian restaurant and I was hoping that this would change when I went to India House... unfortunately, my search continues. read more

in response to some of the things david said, the funny thing about this place is it's run by the same guy that started the taste of india in maplewood. he has a habit of opening restaurants and then selling them to his compatriots and opening new restaurants in different parts of the city with the exact same recipes. to be sure, the recipes probably change slightly with the new cooks hired after ownership changes hands. nonetheless, it's basically the same as the taste of india in maplewood, st. louis park, or the india house on nicollet ave in mineapolis. i think the chicken josh dish is amazing, but i always feel like the price point has been a little high. i always leave feeling like i've way overpaid for what i've received. i don't know. it's a great place to eat dinner after spending wayyyyyy too much time in the william mitchell library. a tad expensive though. read more

This is probably the blandest Indian restaurant I have ever been to. Of course this is to be expected in Minnesota given the bland palettes of the populace. We ordered our entrees "extra spicy" and they were still pretty tame. The appetizers (the vegetarian sampler) lacked any sort of flavor or spices. We ordered take-out from here this week. I placed the order with the manager, who was patient in explaining the order. The call got disconnected, and he actually called me back and left a message, i was sort of surprised by that. We ordered the Tandoori Dinner for Two, which was very good! There was a great variety of different items packed neatly in my take-out bag: vegetable samosas, tandoori chicken, lamb and shrimp w/ mixed vegetables, chicken curry, garlic naan, rice and gulab jamun for dessert. You can customize the meal as well, with different types of naan, curry, etc. We also got the bengan barta, which was spicy and delicious. All in all a great take-out experience-- not the best Indiian i've ever had, but highly recommended. read more

Fresh, clean, healthy food in a very welcoming atmosphere with great hospitality. I used to eat weekly at the St. Louis Park location for years until I no longer worked near there (now sold to different owners). So happy the owner opened on Grand Ave; we do a lot of take-out there. I love the lentil soup; it is always good but slightly different each time, not like the boring same-ness of chain restaurants. Other vegetarian favorites are the yellow dal and curry pakora. I've eaten at most other Indian places around and this is by far my favorite! Everything always tastes fresh and healthy and not overly loaded down with butter or cream. Plus the staff is great! My husband and I went to India House for dinner. The service was amazing, and fast. The food was delicious. It was a pleasant environment. The serving staff got us everything we needed before we even asked. Our food came out in less then 15 minutes. When our waiter was out of site the host jumped to help us. The place was not over packed but had a decent amount of customers. The place was clean and comfortable. To be honest I'm not sure how I feel about this place. I was pretty excited to try it out for someone that loves Indian food. We did take out, Chicken Curry, Beef Madrasi, and two order of the Garlic Naan. In which they were great. It's the size that really took us by surprise. I love this place!! Indian cuisine is probably my favorite and I live pretty close to this spot so I had to check it out. India House has some of my favorite meals. The food tastes great and the portions are big! I usually just get it to-go and each serving lasts me for two or more meals. Whenever I eat in the restaurant, the service is usually pretty good. The waiters are attentive and check in regularly. I also do enjoy the environment inside the restaurant. It's a great place to come on a date, whether it be with an S.O or with family. My wife and I were in St. Paul for all of last week visiting from the Los Angeles area. We were staying at the intercontinental riverfront. I found this restaurant on Yelp and since it was only a couple miles away I decided to visit and check them out. That was one of the best decisions I made on this trip. I had their lunch buffet and being a very fussy and picky person when it comes to food specially Indian food since I was raised on it I have to say I found it to be absolutely fantastic in every which way. I then went back a few times for dinner with my wife and she also has the same opinion as me. The service was prompt and courteous. The attitude of the staff was exemplary. The location is in a nice part of town and very spacious and well lit and well furnished. It takes a lot to impress me and this place sure did. I highly recommend it. The manager/owner Mr. Singh is very polite and easy to deal with. I wish him and his staff the best and hopefully if I ever go to Minnesota again India House will most positively be number one on my list to visit. read more

India House has good portions for the money. The Onion Pakora is a very good appetizer. The Chicken Shahi Korma & the Paneer Korma I believe have the best flavor of all the dishes that I have tried at India House. When it comes to dessert, the Kheer tops my list. They're both great but it's the waitstaff that differentiates this restaurant. They will make sure that you get a dish you like and that the experience is excellent. Stumbled upon India House while searching for Curry Leaf. Wondered if they had butter chicken which I'd just had for the first time in Toronto. Went in and ordered the Tandoori Fish dinner. Very generous amount of food. More bread than I could finish. Ended up taking more home than I ate. So I think it was a fortunate find for me.
