    Shahi paneer, garlic naan, rice
    Kamalvir K.

The atmosphere is simple, charming and beautiful. Smells of masala meet you at the door, along with warm friendly service. We came for a late lunch on a Friday, when it was very quiet. Punjabi Punjabi. We ordered Shahi paneer and garlic naan with mango lassi and cha. All the food was very fresh. The paneer was house made. Naan was not overly oily like in most places. Cha was very good and the star was really the mango Lassi, probably some of the best we've ever had. If you're in the Tacoma area I definitely recommend! When we visit again from California, we'll be making a stop.

Rice , butter chicken, vegetables korma , tikka masala and garlic naan

First time me and daughter tried Indian food. I'm so happy we came here the owner is so friendly and welcoming very good customer service. We ended up getting 3 different naan breads, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and vegetables korma to bring home everything was delicious! I definitely will be back.

    Kashmiri Naan

I'm so disappointed. I first went to this restaurant a few months ago and raved to my honey how good this place was. Today we didn't want to cook the day before Thanksgiving and he wanted to give this place shot. We got the Kashmiri Naan. It was so burnt that we had to throw it away. The Lamb vindaloo had raw potatoes in it. The Mango curry lacks seasoning, all you can taste is hot. I don't think we'll be coming back, especially this place is 20mins away from us.

    WTF Gross Tandoori Mixed Grill

Filthy!!! Filthy!!! Filthy!!! This place needs to be shutdown!!! There is no such thing as health codes in this place! Stay away! We decided not to eat the food served because it was so hideous. So we asked for to go boxes while the owner was cleaning other tables with his cart. The table cleaning cart, food serving cart, and to go box cart is the same cart and not cleaned between uses. Even worse the owner started to put our left over food in the to go containers that had dirty plates touching everything. He did not use utensils to transfer the food. He used his dirty hands!!! He did not care he just did it. We should of left on the spot when we came in. Our water glasses were dirty. Instead of taking the first ones back to the kitchen the owner just switched then with another table. Now some other customer will get them. The food was gross. You can tell no one else in the restaurant liked the food. Some of the food was old while the tandoori mixed grill was WTF! The place is real dumpy too. Most of the lights in the ceiling were burned out. The service was nonexistent. The owner who served us was a real grump if not mean.

I love this spot! I traveled in India for 9 months back in my 20's, and this food took me directly back there! You know how a smell or a taste can do that? It's incredibly authentic and incredibly delicious food. Make sure to try the veggie samosa - the filling is bursting with flavor and the outer pastry is always perfectly deep fried to order. And if you want to hang a little longer, the owner will gladly fill your Chai tea. Will be back again and again.

    Lamb curry, lamb biriyani
    Souf M.

I will not recommend this place at all. The lamb Biriyani taste like chicken, clearly just added some piece of lamb and acting like it's lamb biriyani. And the lamb curry?!? There is no curry at all, it taste like tomatoes sauce. The garlic naan is microwaved. F this nasty food and to hell for this business. I will never ever do business with those people.

No waiting. Staff very friendly. Great food, excellent service, and a pleasant ambiance. Butter chicken was outstanding tender chicken in a creamy sauce. Definitely like this place.

My husband surprised me with a meal of Chicken Tikka from here. I was excited to try it because he kept raving bout how good this place is. Whoever stole my husbands 'taste buds'--kindly return them! No charges will be filed. Just put them on the porch...and leave. Please and thank you. First off: I know EXCELLENT Indian cuisine. I know GOOD...Indian Cuisine. I know BAD Indian Cuisine. Well enough to understand that, when I see the sauce/gravy is 'broken or curdled' (through the lid) and worse once removed, people trust me--that is a SURE sign of failure in these dishes. Yogurt breaks if not incorporated & cooked properly. The other issue is, there is wayyyyy too many onions and bell peppers. The sauce should be thick, fragrant and deep ehhh...'burnt orange-red'. Creamy with a deep flavor of those beautiful spices. This stuff here... ain't NONE of that. This here is BAD Indian Cuisine. Due to their 'lack of personality' and the unsightly 'larg-ish' gnat' floating in my beloved 'Mango Lassi' a few years back--I don't go to Lakewood's 'Great Cuisine of India' any longer. Shame too cuz... This here was GOOD Indian Cuisine. Their food is 2 stars Xtra & much, MUCH better than this place. Muuuuch better. I'm not one who would hold the gnat issue against such a place. They know their spices & the applications in cooking their specialties. Besides--quite as it is kept, we've (unbeknownst to most diners) probably 'snacked' on at least a whole 'rounded tablespoon full' of gnats in our years of dining out. It's a bug, it's tiny and well, it likes what we like. Every building has doors & windows and since restaurants are buildings...well you get the point. No, what I couldn't get around with 'Great Cuisine'' is the (at least then) unfriendly, dead customer service. Very impersonal. And for me, very much a turn off. So where does that leave a lover of this great cuisine? I promise you my fellow Yelper sisters and brothers from 'another mother', there is hope. For those of you thinking this place is great because your poor little tongue has become accustomed to this 'fiasco of great Indian food'.... To get all the positives of the negatives mentioned here--take your butt straight over INTO Puyallup, over on the 'unfortunately' congested Meridian and slide into 'Karma Indian Cuisine and Lounge'. That there...Is EXCELLENT Indian Cuisine. And no. I don't work for them. I'm just a 'fluffy black Sista' who is about that good taste in food. Loyal--as long as they provide it and a 'welcoming, love to see their customers' personality. I wrote a review for them and it's okay if you don't want to read it but don't 'play yourself stupid' by not heeding my advice. You WILL NOT... be sorry. But you will be--if you try this place here on Bridgeport. P.S. Can't stand the 'Speed Racer' Meridian and rather stay in Tacoma area...look no further for your 'Tikka Quick Fix' (or whatever the dish)--Freight House Square. Little India Express. I like them. Been there quite a few times. They are Pretty Good. Much better than this 'broken' mess here.

The server didn't come by to check after food was delivered, so over 30 minutes went by before we could flag him down and ask when the 4th entree would be coming. He admitted he forgot, promised he'd get it going ASAP, and that he'd adjust the bill (unprompted, mind you!) Another 20 minutes, no food. No one checks in about drinks, no updates about the order, nothing. My friend has to flag the server down and ask for it to go; we just want to leave. Next, no itemized bill was presented before paying, so we had to ask for a breakdown. The server had given us a 10% discount on JUST her entree. $3 off a $250+ bill after making her wait nearly an hour for her food. They didn't offer to comp the meal - in fact they said it wasn't an option. "My hands are tied. This is our policy for when food comes late." They only agreed to remove the price of the entree when she said she didn't want it anymore and gave the to-go bag back. On the way out she stopped to speak with management, come to find the server didn't tell the whole story to his own boss. He said our table was merely upset about late food, not that the server never put in her order in the first place. Management retrieved her order from the kitchen and gave it back to her, though who knows what may have been done to it. Two stars because the food that we did get was delicious, but it wasn't worth the wait.

I got the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan and mango lemonade. I went in to wait for my food since they are carry out only. I could hear the naan being smacked with what sounded like bare hands and when I tried to peak into the kitchen window I was told to take a seat. During my wait, one of the workers was swatting flies on the counter by the desserts and wiping the dead fly onto the floor I got my food and as I got back into the car noticed their "okay" health inspection rating on the window lol. The mango lemonade was a shame. No flavor. It didn't taste like mango or lemon so it was just weird. I Ended up getting a lemonade from chick fil a. The tikka masala was weird too. It tasted like honey tomato sauce. It was super sweet. No robust flavors or aromatics, no traditional Indian spices etc. The chicken was definitely cooked separately from the sauce bc the chicken had a roasted flavor to it. It was super tender which was nice but I was baffled by the lack of flavor. I have made more robust chicken tikka masala from a seasoning packet from Safeway. The naan was great. Tasty and a perfect balance of salt and chewy texture. I ate my naan but threw the rest of my food away. Safe to say I won't be back.

My attitude towards Gateway slowly grew more positive after seeing them at farmer's markets and getting their Indian Tacos. Wow I still think about those and as the weather is slowly getting warmer the farmer's markets will return and I can get a hold of those again. In case you are confused what exactly is a taco at the market version of Gateway it's a kabob type chicken put in a naan bread and you can make it a spicy as you want along with a nice dash of veggies. After having so many great experiences with those we considered going back to the restaurant itself and we did when a group socializing opportunity arose. We got the (Jalapeno) Mirichi Naan which we picked off of the menu and before making that decision we realized we never had naan before with jalapenos in it so we seized the opportunity to try it. It did not disappoint at all and was so, so good. Being able to smell the aroma of the peppers coming off of the bread made us drool and devour it all all the while enduring the heat. After that I got the Saag Aloo to share with Steve. I haven't had Saag in so long and I usually get Vindaloo when it comes to Indian restaurants but this time I was wanting a change of pace. I got the Saag Aloo which is a spinach and potato dish along with onion, tomatoes and ground spices. I got a medium heat (three stars I think) and it was perfect. So delicious! Steve got the Daal Maharani which was a mixed lentil dish. It was very good as well... but I still liked my Saag the best. To drink we got the Rocket Beer which was an Indian beer which I must add they have a nice selection of Indian beers here so that was very noteworthy and well worth remembering. For dessert we split some Ginger Ice Cream and it was great! It was strongly ginger forward as one would expect but the creaminess of the ice cream kept it more tempered and it was just lovely! With our large group... I am not sure if Gateway is used to handling large parties. Service was always, always friendly and was great in that regard but it was fairly slow, some parts of people's orders were forgotten ( like Steve's Daal dish) and when our large party tried to pay a whole bunch of separate bills not everyone got one so we had to talk to the the person ringing us all up on what we ordered to cash out. Despite that part of the service being uneven we will certainly be back sooner rather than later as we really enjoyed the food a great deal on our return visit ( second visit total).

There was so much depth in flavor to the dish and had that addicting taste. The butter chicken was also good (that was ordered at a 6 level spice), but I think because it's creamy, I could have gone spicier. In both curries, there is a decent amount of protein. The naan like the other reviews say is thin, but has a nice crisp to it and is still very good. I'm giving this 5 stars in comparission to other spots in Port Orchard.
