The service was so nice I ordered something small to go and they gave me a free drink that was delicious I would definitely go back!

A couple friends and I came here over the weekend for a late dinner, because yelp said they're open until 10pm. Unfortunately, they were closing at 9pm, as they just changed their hours but the internet hadn't caught up yet. We were still able to order our food to go, but our orders got mixed up and neither of our dishes were correct (wrong meat in the different sauces), and although we were warned that a level 3 spice is pretty spicy, no one in our group could detect any spice at all in either dish. Giving a star for staff friendliness, and a star for a decent amount of meat in the dishes. Taking a star for the incorrect dishes, discrepancy in posted and actual hours, and lack of spice. I know I'll try this place again, because it has to be a fluke, considering all the great reviews that lead me to try it in the first place! Fingers crossed for next time read more

I am no expert to Indian food as my experience has primarily been through: - Intel/MSFT cafes with an Indian option (which are pretty good IMO) - Event catering by the local Indian restaurant - Cooking vegan Indian cuisine from Rainbow Plant Life on YouTube Occasionally I will go out for Indian food but ultimately I am hesitant due to my Indian colleagues always telling me "they can make it at home better". As someone who does not have access to an auntie, I cannot claim "authenticity" ... but I can claim Butter Chicken Indian Kitchen serves GOOD food, especially for Gig Harbor. LOGISTICS / AMBIANCE Located next to the Harbor Museum, there is some parking at the very front of the restaurant but I imagine it's OK to overflow into the museum parking, especially when it's closed (that's what we did). I suppose this place qualifies as a "hole in the wall" - it's easy to miss off the main road due it being in a smaller building (think like a gas station convenience store). We were able to get a seat for 3 on a rainy Friday night, but I would call ahead for larger groups of 5+ to check seating availability. Despite the small building, it felt cozy without being cramped. They have an extensive menu so I would take time to look through it while you wait for a seat, but the staff are friendly if you have any questions about unfamiliar items. Sure the lighting isn't flattering... but there's a certain "hole-in-the-wall" charm to the place, from the lanterns on the tables to the smell of curry wetting your appetite. FOOD Unfortunately we were with someone sensitive to spicy food and we wanted to share dishes... so my partner and I had to lower the spice level on our dishes. Unfortunately the 2-3 range was pretty mild for our dishes. Though tasty, I would have liked a little more heat so something to keep in mind. Since we had ordered two saucy dishes, we got two servings of basmati rice in a "handi" ( the copper pot) that kept the rice warm. The basmati rice on its own was very good and fragrant; I even found a cinnamon stick in one of the pots! It went really well with two curries. Fish Korma (lvl 3 spice): Of the two curry-esque dishes I tried, this was my favorite. The creamy sauce was super flavorful with a harmonious blend of spices, super tasty on rice or with any of the provided condiments. I seldom see fish as an option but this was a surprisingly great combination. Tandoori Chicken (lvl 2 spice): This was our favorite dish of the night - it may sound basic (you see tandoori chicken at a lot of places) but it was REALLY good. I liked how the chicken was really juicy and had a nice smokey flavor and char from how it was grilled/serves. The hot plate was a nice touch to keep it warm as well! Definitely squeeze a little bit of the lemon to give it refreshing acidity while eating it warm. I do wish we went higher on the spice rating here since it could have benefited from having more kick, but it was still delicious! Dal Makhani (lvl 3 spice): This was our least favorite, but I had some bias since I was expecting this dish to be something else I had before (need to research more about the variations). I was expecting it to be more creamy with flavor, but it felt a lot more like a tomato-forward channa masala w/ lentils. Still delicious, but not what I was expecting. This also felt a little more spicy than the Fish Korma despite having the same spice level. Garlic Naan (1 piece): Always a must have w/ Indian food! I like eating it with the curries and adding on the complimentary chutneys. The perfect side carb (after basmati rice) for the sauces! Strawberry Lassi: This was was a complimentary surprise, as I think the owner/manager came by and provided them at the end of the meal. They were delicious and a great way to end the meal with a sweet treat! Plus the yogurt helps with digestion or appease any lingering spice effects on the tongue. OVERALL Honestly this place exceeded our expectations - pricing may seem a little high but they're actually on-par with other Indian places I've been to in Seattle and the Bay Area. The portions here are generous especially with the rice - so plan on taking home leftovers! We couldn't finish everything between 3 people and we were starving when we arrived. As a former Gig Harbor residence... I remember a time when this was a little restaurant ran by a sweet Australian couple and a killer cocktail menu. That was years ago, but I'm glad another diverse restaurant option has taken up this space in a town with little variety. The service nice and I could definitely see myself checking out this place again when I'm in the area. Visit Butter chicken Indian kitchen with a huge appetite, the owner is really sweet and absolutely generous with portions. This small little place packs a punch with all those flavours. We were starving after walking few miles and it was a perfect choice to indulge in. We had the Butter chicken, garlic naan, roti, dal makhani (it was okay not the exact makhani), tandoori chicken platter (the pieces were massive! I wish they could be 2 bite sized. The charred edged ones were just perfect ), Chai (wouldn't recommend, sorry) and all these major dishes come with a huge portion of rice. Enough parking spots available within the plot. I absolutely loved this place. I was in India last year and have a real appreciation for the culture and cuisine, and the food here tasted incredibly authentic. I went with my sisters and we all agreed it was amazing. We ordered samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala, Paneer Tikka Masala, Chicken Biryani, and Garlic Naan. Every dish was delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive. The decor is traditional and cozy, giving it that tucked away hidden gem feel. I'm not local, but I've been to India and I eat a lot of South Asian cuisine, and based on that experience I would highly recommend this restaurant. Ordered lunch via DoorDash to share with a friend, including lamb biryani, chicken biryani, paneer pakora, and both strawberry and mango lassi. The paneer pakora had a mild, pleasant taste, though it lacked crispiness--good if you're into simpler flavors. The chicken biryani was underwhelming, with bland chicken and flavorless rice. The lamb was cooked well and nicely seasoned, but unfortunately, the rice didn't hold up in terms of taste. The strawberry lassi was sweet and enjoyable. I heard good things about Butter Chicken, and it did not disappoint. We started off with the vegetable pakora, which were delicious. They brought two sauces to dip - the green chutney and the tamarind chutney. Both of the sauces had good flavor. For our entrees, we ordered the Paneer Tikka Masala and the Chicken Tikka Masala. A good masala sauce can feel so luxurious and almost sinful, making the world slow down a little bit. The masala sauce was creamy and tangy, and paired well with each bite of the paneer. My mom really enjoyed her chicken as well. These came with fluffy basmati rice on the side. The interior ambiance is interesting. It's not what you would expect. I'd suggest lightening up the colors and make it a little more cheerful. I did notice lots of people picking up to-go orders. read more

This place exceeded all expectations. I got the lamb vindaloo with a spice level of 4. Not overwhelming, just a nice heat with amazing flavor. Their naan was perfect and as a surprise the waiter brought out a sample of the mango lassie and rice pudding. Small but so well put together Indian restaurant in gig harbor. Originally from England, I grew up on Indian food and this was literally one of the best in the USA. I was here for my 65th birthday and we had butter chicken, lamb boti masala, eggplant side curry, garlic naan and roti. Portions and taste were so good. We brought half of it home. I did also get a free dessert of rice pudding and gulab jamun. Journey was our waitress and was exemplary. We will be back. read more

Butter Chicken is a nice addition to dining options in Gig Harbor. The staff was friendly and helpful with dinning selections and the overall experiencs was good. I used to frequent Indian buffets downtown Seattle when I worked downtown before Covid shut many of my favorite restaurants down. The food at Butter Chicken was comparable with my favorite Indian buffets and the special here with multiple emtree choices, naan, a yummy yogurt style strawberry smoothy drink was all we could eat anyway. Absolutely delicious food, attentive and considerate service, all in a wonderfully hole in the wall, very reasonably priced restaurant.

We have eaten here twice. The experience is mixed. So you know where I'm coming from, I am a professional chef and culinary instructor, I have evaluated chefs around the country for certifications (including at the Pentagon), and I have judged cooking competitions, but I am not an expert in Indian cuisine, so the food may be authentic for a part of India I am not familiar with. The service was good (though we were the only ones there), and some of the food is good. Some of the dishes have very strange flavors to me. The Tandoori chicken was mostly a pile of over-cooked vegetables (see photo), including a lot of broccoli and green beans, which is not typically associated with this dish. I wouldn't have objected to the vegetables so much if they weren't overcooked and if the chicken was not so soggy from all the liquid. The naan was excellent, and the rice was fine. We also had other dishes, including two that we had both times. They were both better the second time but not great, but one was very weird-tasting the first time. I have been in kitchens in Indian restaurants before, and I asked If I could see their Tandoori oven. But I was told that would be "illegal," even though I am a certified chef and have a food worker card. If they simply were too busy, I could understand, but we were the only people in the restaurant at the time, so that was not it. Or, if they simply didn't want to allow customers into the kitchen, they could have said so. I've actually been in that kitchen before with previous owners of that location, so I'm already familiar with it. I am also a food safety instructor, and I have seen a lot of problems in kitchens. I rarely ask to tour a kitchen when it's not for official reasons, but the few times I have the restaurant welcomes me and is eager to show off what they do. This hole in the wall, opened the past couple years on the main drag, can be mistaken for a gas station store. The lighting inside is aquarium meets dentist chair (hey guys go spend $20 at home depot for some soft light bulbs). The 'art is actually (innocently) scotched taped to the tragic blue colored burlap walls. A security camera flashes green incessantly from a ceiling corner in the small dining room. However the northern Indian food served here is grand. Authentic. Some even exquisite. (Excluding the red dyed looking tandoori chicken which while filling and decent was more like something Aunt Hilda would attempt). The service was very kind and never pressuring. Never have been in a place not Thai that asks what level of hot spice you want. Great! 4 of 5 spice please. Cold Indian lager. Get sauces for their addicting garlic naan. Food service was prompt but one of the samosas was a bit chilly in the middle. Everything was very flavorful. We really enjoyed the butter chicken and lamb vindaloo. The raita for the biryani was perfect to take the edge off of the slightly spicy dish. Service was excellent with multiple water refills and checking in on our food. Possibly the only Indian restaurant in Gig Harbor currently, BCIK is a cute little spot with tight seating, located near the marina by the museum and quaint shopping that makes a valiant effort to serve authentic Indian dishes. I ordered their name sake butter-chicken, and it was very good ... and definitely catered to western tastes. My next visit will sample more ethnic dishes like the lamb or goat curries ...to see how it compares to eastern tastes. Update soon ... read more

UH-MAY-ZING My wife and I love indian food and I especially love spicy Indian food. We decided to give this place a shot for our Friday date night dinner spot. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated politely. Parking spaces were prevalent! When we sat down we had a nice display and a pleasing atmosphere. Light music playing and just loud enough so you can have a private and intimate conversation. I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo level 5 spice and my wife had a mango lassi with the tandoori chicken. Everything tasted so so good. They even gave us a huge portion of rice with the entrée which was greatly enjoyed. The service was speedy and efficient and the food was fresh. Next time I will ask for spicier but I also have a high tolerance for spice. The portions are generous and so is the staff's kindness! We will be back here. Straight to the point this is not **authentic** Indian food. Each of my loved ones and friends have ordered take out from here and here are the dishes that we tasted from BCIK - Chana Masala , didn't have good amount of salt in it and wasn't spicy. It tasted bland as well. Completely flavorless. We shared with two of my sister's roommates ( who were born in India ), both of them had to drink juice after to get the bland taste off their tongue right away. - Butter Chicken, WHY IS THE SAUCE SO RED ? Did you guys add food coloring or too much tomato sauce ? It tasted like it had too much food coloring in it, Jesus. The Chicken was also not cooked properly. It also had a sort of metallic, rusty taste and smell . I had stomach aches, vomited and felt nauseated for 3 straight days after consuming this dish. - The Shrimp Tikka Masala, tasted too salty, shrimp was not cooked correctly it was too chewy. It was too spicy and filled with a lot of seasoning. My aunt got food poisoning from this dish and the Doctor put her on a bland diet for 1 week. - Tofu Saag, DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED WITH THIS DISH. The TOFU was undercooked, the saag was too salty and not spicy. The Tofu also made my cousin sick ( vomit and have digestive problems) for 4 straight days. - Veg Korma - Each of the veggies needed to be cooked a little bit more. Too salty and had too much seasoning ( spices ) in it. Why did we try this many of their dishes you ask ? Great question, we thought if one dish was bad doesn't mean all the dishes are bad maybe lets try another dish or just because what I ordered didn't taste good doesn't mean what others ordered tastes bad as well maybe let me try theirs BUT NO we were wrong. This was an absolute disappointing and unacceptable experience for me, my loved ones and my friends. We strongly do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Service- 1/5 read more

What a wonderful place! I was greeted at the door for my take out order and was given some mango lassi as a delicious surprise! The food was hot and ready and I was on my way quickly. When I got home (after being tortured by the wonderful smells in my vehicle) I was treated to one of the best Indian meals I've tasted in the area! I enjoyed the chicken nirvana (four stars heat level), chicken biryani, and garlic naan. The meal also came with basmati rice (so fluffy) and raita which was amazing. Took my daughter there a few days before Christmas for lunch. We had our standard butter chicken and tikka masala with garlic naan, and had plenty to take home for late and enjoy it twice. The service was excellent. Our server was so kind - he gave us a mango lasso and Indian chai tea to enjoy on the house. This place never disappoints. We love the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and my absolute favorite aloo gobi. The garlic naan is incredible (only wish they cut it up, it is a bit hard to share). Also, the samosas are to die for. They are perfect, crunchy yet soft, and the filling is so flavorful. They also include a nice selection of sauces with the samosas. Sometimes they give a free mango or strawberry lassi after the meal which is a great touch.
